Raymond E. Feist was born Raymond E. Gonzales III, but took his adoptive step-father's surname when his mother remarried Felix E. Feist. He graduated with a B.A. in Communication Arts with Honors in 1977 from the University of California at San Diego. During that year Feist had some ideas for a novel about a boy who would be a magician. He wrote the novel two years later, and it was published in 1982 by Doubleday. Feist currently lives in San Diego with his children, where he collects fine wine, DVDs, and books on a variety of topics of personal interest: wine, biographies, history, and, especially, the history of American Professional Football.

Returning after many years...

... the plot threads pull together into a tense finale. Central characters are brought together for a satisfying conclusion to this era, but leaving this reader eager for more.
It's a good story, well told, but without a sense of hopelessness or frustration along the way, for me, it doesn't have the emotional power of the early Thomas Covenant Chronicles

Magician was my first paranormal fantasy read. I fell in love instantly and the rest as they say is history. I have each and every book in this series and they are so old the pages are yellow but that doesn't stop me from re reading them all the time.

Raymond E Feist is an author like no other.

Do yourself a favour and get stuck into this series now. You will love Pug and his journey through life and the many other characters in spin off books.

I read the first book, and this second book is no disappointment.  In fact it maybe better.  My favourite character is 'Jimmy The Hands a cheeky, lovable, character who has lived a feral life.  However, he has to become a man pretty quickly in their quest to find the Silverthorne plant.  I love the wizards and the magic and the way different men and creatures come together and form groups of friends or enemies.  I'm really looking forward to the next book.

Still good

Just re-read these for the 3rd or 4th time and loved the trilogy just as much as when I first read 30 years or so ago.

Books 2 + 3 of the Riftwar series

The conclusion of the tale begun in Magician, but also the beginning of a massive, multi-world creation of truly epic scale
