Rate this book
Eve Dayton, owner of a riding ranch, rose above her childhood past and overcame the emotional damage her boyfriend caused when he married another woman. When someone starts sabotaging her ranch, Eve is desperate to find the culprit before she loses everything. Is it a coincidence or is the return of Denton Johansen tied into the mystery?

Divorced Denton Johanson returns to his hometown to help convict the embezzling controller of the family business. When he runs into Eve, he realizes his feelings for her are still strong to try and win her back. His fear of horses won’t get in the way of his goal and decides the only way to be near Eve is to take riding lessons from her. Can he convince her that his love is real and he is not behind the mystery surrounding the ranch?

I loved this book. It was the story of Eve and Denton. They were high school sweethearts and then all of a sudden Denton went away and Eve heard later on he married, Marie a girl they went to school with. He returns to town as an accountant to help his mother with her finances. He is now divorced from Marie and is hoping to rekindle things with Eve. Eve though isn't convinced, she has been hurt too much. Eve runs a horse ranch and trains people to ride and has cabins to rent to add to their western experience. Denton decides to take riding lessons, even though he is afraid of horses, to get close to Eve. There is a lot more going on in this story. You will have to read it to find out. It will hold your interest throughout . It is a good read

My impressions at 25%:
So far, I like this book pretty well. I'm curious about the story line and how the back stories of the various characters will come together in the end, I like both main characters, and I find the side characters to be pretty likable. I think I've got the mystery figured out already though. We'll see.

My impressions at 50%:
It was during the second quarter of Riding For Love that I could tell the author was getting more comfortable with her characters and their story. The mystery level of the story amped up a little, as did the romantic element, and I continued to love both Denton and Eve -- even when Eve got a little too catty for my tastes.

The return of some unsavory character added a certain level of suspense to the story too, and I found myself struggling to drop the book at 50% in order to write this part of the review. Good signs, all, despite the other less-pleasant indications of comfort in production: due to the increase in frequency of errors (typos, missed words, etc.), I can feel where the author began to think faster than she could type, and I can also tell that whoever is in charge of editing got so caught up in the story that it made them a little sloppy on the job. Still, even that can be a good thing, if it doesn't end up ruining the reading experience. For many people who aren't sticklers for proper grammar and clean writing, this wouldn't be an issue, perhaps, but it often is for me. So I'm on to the next bit, and we'll see where it leads ...

My impressions at 75%:
Okay, some parts of this book are getting a little cheesy for me. I still really like the story and I love how easily Denton and Eve fit together, but I'm a little worn out on how often they seem to refer to each other by both first and last name. In normal conversation with actual people, this would feel strange and uncomfortable -- and it feels strange and uncomfortable in written dialogue, too. I could see once or twice for a strong emphasis or something, but these two call each other by their full names almost constantly. It's weird for me.

Also, Riding For Love will lose a full star for the sheer number of errors that persist throughout the book. I like the story enough that they aren't driving me to stop reading, but there really are a lot of errors, and the abundance of completely missed words is more than a little bit distracting. Still, I intend to finish reading because I do want to know how it works out, how things go with Eve and Denton, and what happens when they figure out who's been causing all the trouble. Most books with this many errors would have me so pissed off by now that I quit, so I almost think the fact that I'm still reading is a testament to how likable most of the characters are.

Lasting impressions after reading (100%):
I'll still say I mostly enjoyed this story, but there was A LOT of drama there at the end, which wrapped up a bit too quickly for me. It felt sort of rushed once the climax of the plot was over and done with, and I think the author could have taken a little more time to clear things up and smooth things over. It was sort of like when you're watching a movie and everything just totally goes crazy all at once, but then someone steps in and says. "Everything's good. This worked out like this. That worked out like that. And everything's good." And then the movie's over. It was a bit anticlimactic, although there was one small twist that I didn't see coming.

Overall, the book was an easy read, both pleasant and entertaining, with a cast of fairly well-developed characters that were mostly likable and satisfying. I would have greatly appreciated a bit more development at the end to keep it from feeling rushed, and this book desperately needs to be re-edited, but I'll admit that the overall story experience wasn't awful. Still I wish I could say I liked it more, because I feel that this author has a lot of potential as a storyteller. And for what it's worth, I'm curious to see what her growth looks like in her later works.

This might have been a four star read, even in spite of the abundance of errors and other previously mentioned issues, simply because I appreciated the author's effort to develop strong and realistic characters with deep back stories, but in the end, I'm left a little ambivalent due to the mistakes made in not polishing this gem quite as much as it needed. Three stars.

Okay

Has some fun moments, some immature dialogue and actions for 27 and 28 year old successful people, a mare has a foal is then referred to as him and later as her and all the while the foal is nowhere the first months after being born...

This is a beautifully descriptive story of love gone wrong between high school sweethearts who find themselves still in love years later. The vivid descriptions of outdoor settings on the Wisconsin horse ranch give the reader the sense of being there with the characters. The author is especially true to the small town feeling evoked in the story. Good repartee between the hero and heroine sparks the dialogue in this story.
The hero grows more and more likable as his deepest fears and grows in his understanding of women, especially his long lost, high school true love. Readers will cheer for the heroine as she rises up over her less than stellar upbringing to become a strong woman who learns she needs to trust her true love to be complete.
Just when you think the characters’ problems are solved, the author throws in a surprise ending you didn’t expect, leaving you wondering why you didn’t see it coming.
If you are looking for an enjoyable happy ever after romantic, suspenseful mystery to read then this is your book.

Eve and Denton are a couple until he marries someone else. He, the son of some wealth and she a daughter of chaos in her drunken father's home, meet years later when Denton, divorced, comes back to their small town to support his widowed mother. In the intervening years of separation, Eve becomes strong and establishes a successful guest riding business, but will they reconnect and live happily ever after? Maybe, maybe not. The author makes the path rocky including intrigue, suspense, and Eve's hesitancy to give Denton a second chance. The reader will be entertained while the mysteries get solved and the fate of Eve and Denton emerges. A nice read for a quiet evening.

Loved it! A little spice, a dose of mystery whodunit - and lots of fun! (And if you think you have it all figured out before the end . . . you probably don't.)

Full disclosure: The author is a good friend of mine, but I bought my own copy and voice my own opinions. I would've enjoyed the heck out of this book even if we weren't friends, but I might not have even read it if we weren't, since romances aren't usually my "thing". And if I hadn't read it, I'd never have known how good it is! :-)

Riding for Love is a pleasant story with a likable heroine and hero. However, I never was able to care a whole lot about them. High school sweethearts separated for ten years, and neither of them even seriously dated anyone else in all that time? While we're told that the mischief and vandalism might hurt the ranch, it's never portrayed as serious enough to make me worry about it. Editing lapses were annoying and must surely be embarrassing to the author, with story inconsistencies and numerous sloppy sentences and punctuation.

I love reading about horses, but just like Denton, actually riding one would terrify me! Denton and Eve were high school sweethearts, but he ended up breaking her heart. Now 10 years later, he wants to make it up to her and get her back. This book contained the right amount of romance and mystery -- I couldn't put it down! I hope this author writes more in this genre.

I won a copy of the book at a Facebook party. It's I the first time I've read this author and would read her again. The book was well constructed. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense, it was a good build up to the conclusion.
