Cupid is exhausted. Modern day matchmaking is tough – people are busy, their hearts are harder to hit and he’s had enough of wall-to-wall romance. And St Valentine has noticed…
Annelise is a Lost Cause. She runs a dating agency but her heart is colder than a penguin’s feet. She thinks love is about compatibility and has no time for passion.
Can Cupid prove to St Valentine that he hasn’t lost his touch by melting Annelise’s heart? Or is it curtains for Cupid?
I’ve wanted to write books for adults for as long as I can remember but I was too scared to try. One day I decided to be brave and dipped a toe into the bubble bath of romantic comedy with my first novella, Cupidity, and I’ve never looked back. I often try to be funny to be funny, except for when faced with traffic wardens and border control staff. My favourite thing is making people smile.
I’ve tried many jobs over the years, from barmaid to market researcher and I even had a brief flirtation with modelling. These days I am mostly found writing.
I live near London with my grey tabby cat, Portia. We both have an unhealthy obsession with Marmite.
I'm well turning into a softie in my old age you know. I seriously just got all gooey inside and smiley faced when I finished this book.
Cupidity watches Cupid sent to earth to reinstate his love for his job. Not only that though, he has to prove to St.Valentine and the powers that be that he is still capable of doing his job. His instructions being he is to go back to basics meaning no power and no golden arrow to find love for ice hearted Annalise Hart. Annalise however, after a nasty heartbreak in her college years has well and truly given up on love and has her heart armour protected. If Cupid can't do it and in the required 7 days given, he will be punished by becoming mortal forever.
This book is brilliant. It's short, gripping, funny and has a unique and fantastic plot. I was a bit wary of it at first if I'm being totally honest, I thought it was going to be cheesy and far too girly, I was proper chuffed I was wrong. I'm proper made up I've got another book to go in my favourite's collection.
If you're looking for something light and quirky then this is ideal for you. I can guarantee you will giggle and smile throughout it.
I downloaded this ebook due to the blurb, it sounded intriguing and not like something I had read before.
The story started straight away without having to get going - set up in the clouds with cupidity. He was sent on a mission on Earth to a lost cause.
The character of Annelise was developed well and another it's only a short story her personality changes in it and you warm to her. To begin with you get the impression she is a busy hard business woman, but she softens as the story progresses.
I felt the story is a little predictable, however it is a light hearted feel good read.
The story has been left open for an opportunity to return and I would be interested to see if Holly Hepburn does a sequel.
Holly Hepburn I feel is a chick lit author to watch.
I feel that the author has written this novella with her tongue tucked firmly in her cheek and a twinkle in her eye. It starts with a worrying conversation between Cupid and St Valentine. It appears that Cupid has lost his sparkle. Instead of the holiday he feels he needs, he is given a particularly difficult task. If he should fail........bye bye Cupid. A light, enjoyable, frivolous piece of confectionary, to enjoy with a latte and a cupcake when you want a short break from being serious. Contains some swearing.
Loved it from the first page. Sad, funny and really enjoyable. As usual with Holly I couldn't put it down. So different to anything else. Best of all didn't seen the end coming
This was a very charming short story. I have read 2 of Holly's full novels and I'm currently waiting for the 3rd part of her latest one to be released in the morning. This book was very enjoyable and the ending felt very fitting.
Someone has to make this cute novella into a film! I thought it was such a fun concept, Cupid coming down to earth and people being jaded with love, just the kind of thing that needs to be written about in 2013! For a novella, a lot of action takes place and yet this author has cleverly not written it over a long time period. Cupid knows that he had 5 days to make Annelise learn to love again, and 5 days seems to be the perfect amount of time for this story to cover.
I thought the character of Annelise was very well developed and very realistic, considering both how short this story was and also, the fact that the other characters in the novella were St Valentine, Cupid and another winged assistant. I thought the feelings she had were very realistic too and I found her easy to identify with, even in such a short space of time!
There were moments where I laughed and there were also aww moments. I don't want to give too much away in this mini reviews, but I thought the whole story was really well written. This is definitely something that should be enjoyed with a nice glass of wine of an evening or a cup of tea on a Sunday morning, as I enjoyed it. I found it to be a refreshing love story, full of action and containing a very real message for today's modern society!
What happens when Cupid falls in love. Well if you want to find out then you will have to read this lovely book by Holly Hepburn. This was an adorable book, I read it in one afternoon. Cupid is sent to the modern world to help one of the Lost Causes, Annelise. If Cupid can not accomplish this task then he will lose his job. Can he accomplish this monumental task or is Annelise really a lost cause. You will have to find out for yourself. I really enjoyed this book, it is witty, charming, and warms your soul. This is a must read. I give it 5 stars.
This book was pretty damn cute and funny. It definitely would make a cute TV show or movie. I love the idea of Cupid being sent to earth because LOVE was going slow and he needed to get out of his RUT. I thought that the book was cute, sweet, and I did like it a lot.
Short read with not much substance. The characters are likeable but the ending is so predictable. It follows Cupid who has been challenged and sent to earth by St Valentine to turn hard-hearted dating agency owner Annelise into a romantic. I got this book back in 2013 thankfully it was free.
