The last thing Alasdair Fraser expects to find on an isolated beach along the coast of northern Scotland is a beautiful, unconscious lass. Unable to turn his back on someone in need, he delays his journey and tend so her injuries–an act that has him questioning his plans to rejoin Robert the Bruce and the fight for Scotland’s independence.
Will he drop the shield that guards his heart or will the secrets she fails to reveal, a king-sanctioned marriage to another man, and his own stubbornness keep them apart forever?
PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE THREE AUTHORS WITH SAME NAME (B.J. SCOTT) MY BOOKS ARE HISTORICAL ROMANCE NOVELS
With a passion for history and romance, I have several exciting works in progress. Each manuscript offers a blend of passion, adventure and where appropriate, a dab of comic relief. Carefully researched historical facts are woven into the storyline, providing a backdrop from which steamy romance, gripping plots and vivid characters—dashing alpha heroes and resourceful, beguiling heroines you can't help but admire—spring to life. I also write contemporary, paranormal, time travel and romantic suspense.
After several years in the nursing and child and youth work fields, I met and married my knight in shinning armor and he whisked me away to his castle by the sea. Actually, it is a century old home in a small town on the shore of Lake Erie, where we reside with our three dogs and a cat.
While born in Canada, my ethnic background( grandparents back) were from Scotland, Ireland and England. Perhaps the reason for my facination with anything Celtic. In the fourth grade, I discovered the work of C.S Lewis, and was hooked. When I am not writing, working at my childcare job or on my small business, you will find me reading, camping or antique hunting.
I am a PAN member of Romance Writers of America, World Romance Writers, Celtic Heart Romance Writers, Savvy Authors and several writer critique groups.
… I’m going to be honest with you all, this book made me a little frustrated and angry. This review may become a rant. You’ve been warned.
With the above quote, and the setting of Scotland, I was really prepared to like this book — and for quite a bit of it, I did. But there were just too many small issues that I found which eventually piled up enough to make me dislike the book — and I really hate disliking books. Around 87% of the way through the book, I wrote up a list of things that bothered me. I’m going to share a few of these things with you now:
First off, I don’t have curly hair, but I’m fairly certain that if a woman is “soaking wet”, her hair does not still maintain perfect, beautiful curls. Especially if she’s washed up on shore after being thrown into the sea during a storm. You’d have more of a huge, tangled mess, and water usually weighs down the curls, flattening them just a little.
When Alasdair comes across the mystery woman on the beach, it takes him a page or two to even give her a blanket for warmth — yes, she’s unconscious, but I actually wrote a note in my Kindle saying, “For God’s sake, man! The woman’s lips are blue! Give her your tartan and stop staring at her breasts through her night rail!”
One of my biggest issues with this book stems from the fact that the woman’s family thought her to be dead, as she was thrown into the sea during a storm. (Small spoiler warning!) — What happened was that she was trying to defend herself against a man trying to rape her, and she ran out onto the deck of their ship during the storm and was tossed overboard. Later in the book, the would-be-rapist escapes from her father’s dungeon and seemingly plunges to his death when he falls off the cliff into that same body of water, and they all assume he’s dead. Now, normally I’d be ok with this as a huge fall into icy depths of ocean and rock would be cause to think someone was dead… But they JUST GOT HER BACK AFTER THINKING THE SAME THING!!! Why not be more on guard? Why act so incredibly surprised when he shows up again to finish the job?! Come on, people! I think it was the absolute surprise on everyone’s behalf of this guy showing back up that made me toss my hands in the air.
Finally, Alasdair continually mentions going back to fight the war with Robert, the Bruce. Over and over and over again… Then, towards the end, there is a battle. Just one that seems to only last for a few hours…. and is oddly only a few hours ride from where he was…. This makes no sense to me. From everything that had been said previously in the book about where this battle was to take place, it certainly seemed that it would take them more than a few hours on horseback to get there. The battle almost seems like it was just tossed into the mix of this book to make it count as “historical” and to tie up some loose ends (I won’t say what, because I dislike spoiling more). It just seemed too convenient and not well thought-out.
I really wanted to like this book, and I really dislike giving out bad reviews, but I was so exasperated with this one that I just couldn’t say it was any better than a 2.5 out of 5. It makes me sad, really. The characters were flip-floppy.. The female character I wanted to just shake and tell her to grow a pair… though upon her killing her would-be-rapist (sorry, spoiler) — THAT I cheered for. So there ARE some redeeming qualities here. It’s just difficult having to force yourself to finish a book.
Once again B.J. Scott delivers a fantastic, brilliantly woven Highland tale!
Chalk full of turmoil, sizzling chemistry, romance, and a hard won happily-ever-after, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
This was one romance where I adored the charismatic hero and unconventional heroine equally, faults and all. In fact, their flaws added a wonderful realistic dimension to the story.
Historical and Highlander fans alike must read this wonderfully written, highly satisfying story.
I was provided a copy of this book for an honest review.
Intrigued by the striking cover, I downloaded Highland Homecoming hoping to learn more about Scotland's first war of independence. The fateful encounter of Alasdair Fraser, a lonely and powerful warrior, and beautiful but confused "Lauren" immediately hooked me. I got caught up in the insecurities and dangerous secrets of these flawed characters and had trouble putting the book down. Ms.Scott has skillfully woven historical facts with strong doses of adventure and romance in this well-paced Highland tale. I didn't realize that Highland Homecoming was the third in Ms. Scott's Fraser Brother series until I finished reading.
Next steps--Read Highland Legacy and Highland Quest.
Love doesn't come easy, nor should it be taken for granted. Ms. Scott doesn't miss a thing in this enchanting tale. Highland Homecoming is heartwarming and magical. I don't want to spoil the book review on my website later this month, but felt very obligated to praise the third book of this trilogy right away. Enjoy it, I did.
This was the calmest of the trilogy. So much goes in to writing these stories and I for one am so thankful for all the Historical Romance Authors. I absolutely loved the characters and storyline so much. Edina and Alistair were sweet. As were Duncan and Oceana. On to my next BJ. Scott story. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜
Highland Homecoming is very well written and really makes you believe you are lost in ancient Scotland. When asked to read this book before its release day I was thrilled seeing as I am a huge fan of historical romance and especially those Scots, :) This book had all of what I look for in a great historical, flawed hero, strong heroine, and the ability to fall in love with both as the story unfolds. The chemistry between the two was captivating and kept my attention to the point when I had to put it down for other obligations I couldn't wait to get back to reading.
If you are looking for a great highlander book, this is it!!!
It was good. I liked Alasdair. Edina was a strong heroine. The storyline was interesting but Alasdair was a repeat of his brothers "I can't marry, I am part of the cause." I was a little disappointed that the king didn't reward him in any way. It is a good read and a good ending to the series.
Alasdair Frazer is returning from war and on his way to his friends highland castle he sees something laying on the beach. He investigates and finds a young lass laying out cold on the beach in her night rail. This is the last thing he excepts , she's barely alive. He knows it to far to his friends home and she is almost dead. He remembers there is a hunting cabin near by. He takes her there to try and save her life. He nurses her back to life, when she awakens she has no memory of who she is or where she's from. She doesn't want to go with Alasdair to his friends family at the castle, she doesn't know why but she is afraid. His friend comes by and finds Alasdair and the girl hears them talking outside and she runs away out the back door of cabin. his friend helps him look for her but no such luck do they have finding her. His friend Jayden Sinclair heads back home to Sinclair Castle. Alasdair continues to call an search for the girl he calls Lauren, he finds her hiding in a thicket and is furious he for making him look like a fool with friend. She goes go back into the house and her memory starts to return but she doesn't let Alasdaie know. She gets back to castle and he finds out Lauren is actually his childhood friends sister Edina and the daugher to the Laird Sinclair. He finds out she betrouhed to another wealthy Laird's son, who will become Laird of his clan. Edina doesn't want to marry him but his dad says she must because both fathers and the King have agreed to the marriage. There are many twists and turns in this sory to make it very entertaing and very enjoyable read as well. Please read the story for all the twists and turns the Author Scott takes you on it will not disappoint you.
This was a great ending to a wonderful series. Alasdair proved to be just as stubborn as his younger brothers but was such an honorable man. This book didn't have as much action or angst as the first two stories but was still good despite that. I truly liked Edina and I thought her perfect for Alasdair. My heart went out to both of them and I felt their pain at Edina's forced betrothal but like all romances, they found their happily ever after.
While I am only leaving a review on the third book of the trilogy, I write it for all three. These were some hot and heavy historical romances. I loved the characters and being of Scottish descent myself, I wish I was getting some of what they were getting. Well I need a cold shower now. They were great books and I think I will have to reread them some time in the future.
I really loved reading this book because Alasdair's faults made him seem more approachable and human. I'm sure people with self esteem issues will be able to relate to his struggles. Although I found myself damning his stubborn streak when it came to asking Edina to marry him. He tended to get in his own way. It took a strong woman like a Edina to break through his stubborn streak to make him see the error of his ways.
Alasdair Fraser on his way to visit an old friend comes upon a beautiful lady washed upon the shore. He takes her to a hut not far to tend to her. When she wakes she doesn’t know who she is. After about two weeks she is better and can ride. But she now remembers all. Her father’s advisor tried to rape her and she fell overboard. He was supposed to take her home to marry her betrothed. In the meantime Alasdair and she fall in love.
This was a wonderful story. You could tell almost from the beginning is was going to be both a happy and painful journey. But you knew that in the end journey would have joyous ending!
When you find yourself not knowing who you are and why you are in nothing but your night rail and every wet. But to find that the man who safe you that you find that you had fill in love with. I give this story a four star rating it is every interesting story
This is a great read I enjoyed all of them they were great storyline and fantastic characters. I know need to find the new books or series to read. Definitely recommend this author and their books
I liked the book. I didn't realize until after I had already started the book that I was reading in the wrong order...oh well. Now on to the Fraser Brothers Book 1!
