Brooke is running from her past and hoping to make a new life in the small Colorado town of Red Cliff in the cottage her late Great Aunt Sophia left her. She wants nothing more than to be left alone. The very handsome ex-forensic specialist, Chase who lives next door, also wants to be left alone, but unfortunately his dog, Digger has other ideas. After Digger uncovers a piece of bloody plastic in Brooke's garden and then later he digs up the body of the woman who lived on the other side of Brooke, Chase and Brooke quickly have to get answers before the person who has already tried to strangle Brooke, comes back to finish the job.
This wasn't too bad, but it does need some editing. Had the names of some characters wrong. Switching Points of View within the same scene is annoying, but I was still able to follow.
Overall, the story was a bit juvenile for my taste. The motive for the antagonist seemed petty. The romance was quick and predictable.
It's very easy to fall in love with Elizabeth Sherry's writing as her characters spring to life off the page. The suspense and rapid hairpin turns this story takes make for a great ride in the mountains. There is much more to be heard from her I hope.
Absolutely awful. Trite and juvenile. Zero plot. Riddled with grammatical errors, misspelling and weak sentence structure. Not recommended. The characters sleep walk through the entire story. Not even the good guys are interesting.
This was another free book I downloaded when I got my first kindle back in 2013. It is basically a romance but with a death at the forefront of the story. An enjoyable quick read.
I think there was too much description of every step: "he walked over......, he sent the glass down, he looked to the left......He took a breath, he blinked...." just too much 'description". I found several typos, which is ok, but when you typo Mrs. drake to Mrs. Blake, that's not good.
First Brooke ran away from her abusive, embezzling boyfriend. Then she heard screams from the next room when she stopped for the night at a Colorado motel. She thought she was safe when she got to the cabin her aunt had left her ... until her neighbor's dog unearthed a blood-covered shower curtain in her garden. Now Brooke is feeling very Alone And Afraid.
I read a kindle version and was rather underwhelmed. The storyline was okay - although I solved it halfway through - but the writing style was too choppy for my tastes. The sentence structure was also quite simple and often repetitive. I don't know that I'll read other books by this author.
I was a little disappointed in this book. I was expecting to get scared when I read in the middle of the night, it didn't happen. Seemed to me like it was moving along nicely then suddenly the characters were together.
I liked this book. Light reading and easy to follow. Romantic and some suspense. I would like to see another book with the same characters to see how their lives have changed. I felt this was well written book but not long enough .
Rather a weak story line and rather unbelievable. short and not well developed characters. not at all sure I would read any more, but keeps my numbers up and I may yet make the 100 for the this year!
I thought this book was a great read and I enjoyed every minute of it. I found it a little like a mystery kind of book but overall I thought it was a very good book
