One of the most significant numbers in the Bible is the number 40. Many of the most well known Biblical events can be connected with the number 40. Moses stayed on the mountain with God for 40 days. After Noah built the Ark, it rained for 40 days and nights. The Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. Goliath challenged the Israelites for 40 days. David and Solomon both reigned over Israel for 40 years. Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days. Each time the number 40 appears, God does something huge. In 2012, God began to speak to my wife Barbara and I about major changes coming for our ministry, Dallas Metro Dream Center. We knew that in order for us to prepare for these changes, we needed to become the people that God wanted us to become. Our whole staff and board members read the book, The Circle Maker, by Mark Batterson. This book reminded us of a principle that we have based our entire ministry on- bold prayers changes things. Quickly after reading the book, we decided to commit to 40 days of prayer. Every morning, I sent out an e-mail devotion to set the tone for prayer for that day. Each day people began to hear about the 40 days of prayer and asked to be added to the list, and our prayer circle continues to grow. It was an incredible 40 days that made a huge difference in the lives of everyone involved. I want to share these devotions with you. My prayer is that God will speak to you about changes He wants to make in your life. If we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, God can take us further than we can even imagine. I challenge you to spend the next 40 days praying. What is it in your life or home that needs to be circled in prayer? Each day for the next 40 days, read the devotion and then spend time praying about it. You will be amazed at what God does. In 2011, God gave me a verse to live by, and I have been standing on this promise ever since. Habakkuk 1:5 “’For I am going to something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” What is it that God is going to do? Ask. He will tell you.
This book was quick and very precise I loved it and got through it in one sitting. Getting closer to God is so important for all out there again it's a must for people new and veterans alike
In the beginning of the book... I was a little disappointed because I thought it was going to be ALL about the Dallas TX area and these devotions would not relate to me. After getting thru the first week I realized that I could relate and enjoyed and looked forward to reading them each day. I also liked that the author used 1 main verse to close out every devotion
This book was written for a ministry team, Dallas Metro, to use as they participated in a 40 day corporate prayer commitment for both their church and ministry. Each of the entries include a topic scripture and teaching regarding the day's topic. This book is filled with great wisdom, insight, teaching and testimony. It is a great resource that could be used both individually or for a group.
“As we have been walking together, praying together, and believing together, God is doing something new in all of us. He is challenging all of us to walk by faith and be led by His Spirit.”
I will start out by saying that this devotional is different from any other that I have read. It is a composition of 40 prayer emails that were sent out in 2012 as a prayer initiative for their church. Originally, I downloaded this devo because it was free on Kindle and thought it would be nice to have a specific topic to pray about for a few minutes everyday in addition to my usual quiet time. Little did I know that this devotional was for the city I grew up in. I began this devo about a month and a half after I moved to Bucharest, Romania, when I was going through a small patch of homesickness (thus I wanted something to focus on in my quiet time), and God's solution was to lead me to a devotional that was all about the place I was homesick for. In a way that surpasses my understanding, my homesickness is now long gone, and I have been so blessed by the thoughtful devotions from Wallace and seeing his insights on different passages. Warning: each day the devos get longer and longer. I actually really loved it, because it was easier and easier to spend more time praying over the request mentioned in the devotional, but it is something I didn't realize stepping into it. Also, there were some very concise, convicting thoughts and reminders I came across in the 40 days that I think are important to meditate on constantly: "If you can do what you believe God has asked you to do all on your own; it was never a God given dream... I want to challenge you that your finest hour has not happened yet. Our best days are ahead of us. As we have been walking together, praying together, and believing together, God is doing something new in all of us. He is challenging all of us to walk by faith and be led by His Spirit." "For I am going to something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." - Habakkuk 1:5
This devotional apparently is taken from the author's blog, and was designed as a way to invite those who read the blog to join with him in praying for the ministry that he and his wife had been called to. As such, because I am not a follower of said blog (never having heard of this particular author previous to reading this book), it felt like I was missing part of the story. That said, in general I enjoyed the devotional. Each day's reading started off with a scripture, and then the author would discuss how the scripture not only related to the ministry he had, but how it could relate to us in our own lives . . . praying for whatever miracle and ministry God had for *us*. Each day's reading ended with the same verse from Habakkuk, reminding us that God can work miracles for us . . . so great that we might not believe! I really appreciated that reminder. 3.5 stars
This book was written to walk a particular ministry team through 40 days of prayer. So at first I thought, Why did I even get this book? But I decided to use it to pray for my church for 40 days and then I found the devotionals and the prompts for prayer very helpful. I did also enjoy learning more about this ministry in Dallas, and may God richly bless them!
Thank you Clay Wallace for the 40 days of prayer. We all need to pray more consistently every day and every night. This book was very inspirational and encouraging. Thank you.
I have just completed meditsting on 40 days as suggested in the book. It was so good that every morning i recieved fresh energy to carry on. And that is the miracle happened in my life. Thanks so much for this book and God bless you.
Although I’m far from Texas, where this book was focused, it gave great seed for prayer and was an encouragement to see how God works in us even though we are in places out of our comfort zone.
I didn't get a lot out of this book, but I am sure there are many who would. If you have lost touch with the importance of prayer, if you have lost faith in what God is able to do, then this book could be a good help to you. I did get distracted by the many grammatical errors, but they didn't take too much away from the overall purpose of the book. Read it with an open heart and mind! You could see things you hadn't seen before.
Absolutely powerful and spirit-filled. this book has changed my way of thinking. every true believer should read this book and follow God's message from a mighty man of God.
I really like the scriptures used with the story's.
Good in site. Common sense steps to prays and fasting. learning how to get answers. Using the word of GOD as a guide. This has been very useful getting me started.
