There isn’t another way; not now. The others are coming. I can’t let them have you…
Seventeen-year-old Reagan has a problem: She can’t remember what happened the night her brother was taken. Now, the dreams haunting her from the incident are becoming more intense by the day. All the while, the lines between what’s real and what’s a product of her paranormal-obsessed mind are becoming blurred.
Is she losing her mind or has she just stepped into a world she thought only existed in books?
Caught in a web of worried parents, competing boys, Wiccan relatives, protective amulets, and psychiatrist babble, Reagan must determine the truth before it’s too late.
Tia Silverthorne Bach has been married to her college sweetheart for twenty-four years, has three beautiful girls, and adores living in the beautiful state of Colorado. Her daughters were born in Chicago, San Diego, and Baltimore; and she feels fortunate to have called many places home. She believes in fairy tales and happy endings and is an avid reader and rabid grammar hound.
She is an award-winning, multi-genre author and an Editor for Indie Books Gone Wild. From an early age, she escaped into books and believes they can be the source of healing and strength. If she’s not writing, you can find her on the tennis court, at the movies, reading a good book, or spooning Jif peanut butter right out of the jar.
In many ways, Reagan is just your typical teenager, worrying about Homecoming court, cheering for her football-star boyfriend, and pouring over the latest paranormal YA novel. Yep, pretty normal... oh, except for that whole she-might-be-a-werewolf thing.
Chasing Memories begins as Reagan is camping in Yellowstone with her family. She wakes up one night to her brother screaming. Suddenly, he is gone and something massive rakes at her back before her father scares it away. Literally overnight, everything in Reagan's life changes. The tragic loss of her brother is followed by the unearthing of family secrets and some tough realizations about who the people in her life really are. Additionally, Reagan is craving meat and having some wild dreams about a creature with wolf's eyes.
When Rafe, the new kid, rolls into town, weird gets weirder. Rafe seems to understand all too well what is happening to her, more than Reagan does herself. But she can't be sure if he truly wants to help her, or if there is some darker drive behind his enigmatic smile.
Chasing Memories had me from the first word. Tia Bach has woven a mystery and given her readers a perfect, snarky, and oh-so accurate teenage voice to help us navigate through. Reagan doesn't so much come to life as she vaults off the page in your face. Nonetheless, where other "typical teen" narrators might annoy (hello, Bella Swan), the muted desperation to understand what is happening that lies beneath her teenage 'tude makes Reagan unquestionably sympathetic. I felt for her, I wanted to hug her, and I wanted to know what in the heck was happening to her.
Ultimately, the genius of Bach's story is in its ambiguity. There were many, many moments where I found myself wondering if Reagan was joining the ranks of the paranormal teens she so loved to read about, or if grief and imagination were actually driving her experience. Either way, I devoured every word, and as with Bach's first book, Depression Cookies, I found myself falling off the last page and wanting more.
I hope there will be a sequel-- and soon-- but for now, this one is highly recommended!
I was the editor for Chasing Memories so, naturally, I've read it. I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened the book and dove in; but what I got was a pleasant surprise. There was mystery, action, family drama, and paranormal activity that left me wondering what was really going on until the last page. Without dragging it out further, I give you my review!
From a reader's perspective: Reagan is a typical teenager who forced me to care about what was happening to her. There were so many times I wanted to slap her because of the things she was doing; but, on the same note, there were times I wanted to slap her mother, too. That's when I know I've gotten hold of a great book. I loved how the supporting cast of characters came to life on the page, how well I could see Colorado in my mind's eye (I've never been there, but now I feel like I have), and how accurate the descriptions of Georgia were. When I got to the last page, the surprise ending left me wanting more. It's a good thing there's a sequel in the works! Tia also didn't bog me down with descriptions. There were just enough so I saw it, but it left a little to my imagination.
From an editor's perspective: Well, now, this is a tough one. Because I was the editor, I see no reason for any errors to be present. Not only did I edit, we had a third set of eyes do the proofreading. If you find any glaring errors in this book, I beg you to apply to join our editing team.
My rating: 1 star for giving me teen angst that worked. 1 star for making me love the characters. 1 star for the perfect amount of descriptive text. 1 star for the surprise twist in the end. 1 star for the lack of errors in the writing.
Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this book if you love YA.
Reagan goes through a horrible night. Someone or something attacked her and her brother while they were camping. She’s been injured, but her brother hasn’t been found. People assume he’s dead.
Ever since the attack, she’s been having odd dreams, acting violently, and delving into Wicca, which her grandmother practices. People around her are being jerks, like her ex-boyfriend, the girl who’s competition, and some strange boy who seems to know about the night in the woods.
This paranormal book is a fast read with many intense scenes. Reagan goes through a lot, from the loss of her brother to loved ones thinking she is crazy and needs to be locked up. I would definitely read more to find out what happens next in this series.
Chasing Memories follows a young girl by the name of Raegan whose life resembles a typical teenager. She has a boyfriend that she’s not too fond of but everyone else loves and two best friends that share everything between each other. There’s also a mother that tries her hardest to fit in with the young crowd, a father that loves hunting and a brother…that we don’t really get to know. However, everything changes for the worse when her father plans a family trip to Yellowstone.
It’s there that the story truly begins when Raegan and her family are attacked by some animal leaving her in the hospital and her brother Sam missing, presumed dead. It’s everything following the deadly trip that leaves her second guessing her sanity.
After the attack, she grows distant to the people around her. All except her grandmother, which she becomes very close to, almost dependent on. Her boyfriend in the beginning of the book gets replaced with a boy she barely knows who later in the story attacks her. Why? We don’t find out all the details why in this book, but I’m hoping in the sequel (Chasing Shadows) questions that arise in Chasing Memories will be answered in.
Boyfriends come and go but family is forever and Reagan’s family is as cryptic and not very understanding as one can get. Her mother and grandmother, her mother’s mother don’t get along due to different beliefs. Which is where Reagan finds out she’s a witch –well Wiccan- by her grandmother. She’s stuck between her grandmother who wants to help her cope with this traumatic event whereas her mother just wants to shove pills down Reagan’s throat…which is said multiple times –a lot of times-throughout the story. Her mother wants nothing to do with her Wiccan blood and refuses to let Reagan rely on it either. However, Reagan needs her witch blood to help her through what’s happening to her.
Reagan starts to experience dreams of that horrific night that a wolf with golden eyes occupies. She begins to get overbearing feelings of lust along with fits of rage for no apparent reason. Her mother sees only one way of helping her daughter and that’s to see a shrink, but when she admits to being attacked by a wolf instead of a bear like the reports claimed, she gets questionable stares. Matters get worse when she admits to hearing her brother’s voice in her head, her brother who has been resumed dead.
There’s only one place someone ends up after expressing irrational behavior and hearing voices that belong to supposed dead people, a mental hospital. But an unlikely savor comes to help her escape, to help her understand what’s happening to her since the only person that was trying to help her, her grandmother, was sent away by her mother. The character development is well written and is very realistic given the story is pure fiction with elements of the supernatural. There was a lot of name dropping of popular novels that you’d find in bookstores, but then I had to remind myself that the story follows a young girl that’s not even eighteen yet.
I admit I didn’t like her mother being called mom or grandmother called nana throughout the story that’s written in third person. It felt awkward to be reading the story from someone else’s point of view and calling a character mom or nana. If it would’ve been in Reagan’s perspective than by all means call them that, but I feel like their actual names would’ve been better to develop their character on a personal level. In one of the final chapters Reagan’s mother was called by her name, but from her being referred to as mom the whole book when I read her actual name, I had to really think about who was talking.
As for romance through the story there’s teen love and there’s even an attraction to a complete stranger that we don’t really get to know that well, which leaves me trying to remember who he is and if I remember correctly I can’t help but to think he’s too old for her. But overall the relationships that Reagan has between friends –male and female- and family is well written and allows you to understand Reagan’s emotions well.
In conclusion, there’s much more I’m sure I’m missing, but I can’t tell you all the goods can I? No. The story leaves you wanting more and having you ask yourself question after question as to what’s going to happen to Reagan and how does everything fit together. Even though I had some criticisms about the story, I really can’t find anything truly wrong with it. It was an enjoyable read that had a great plot full of mystery. The storyline is great for any supernatural lover and Reagan as a character is very relatable. FOUR moons out of FIVE!
I received this book to review from Bit'N Book Promoters. Thanks Tia!
Chasing Memories was a heart-pounding and suspenseful read. It surprised me in so many ways and for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out where the story was headed. Fans of YA paranormal reads will really enjoy this book!
I had a love/hate relationship with Reagan. Sometimes, I wished I had the ability to reach into books and shake some sense into characters. However, she was a very realistic teen character and I thought the author portrayed the thoughts and dialogues of teens in a very honest way. Her emotions were up and down, but she was still a sympathetic character.
The plot started off with plenty of action as Reagan and her brother are attacked at their campsite. Reagan survives, but her brother is presumed dead. Reagan has nightmares about the attack, but never fully remembers what took place. The book follows Reagan as she tries to unravel the mystery and also as she’s introduced to the world of the paranormal—most notably werewolves and witches.
Reagan has two love interests: Dex and Rafe. Unfortunately, both came across as psychopaths. Dex only wants to use her sexually and Rafe is a creeper who tries to get her drunk and lure her out into the woods. Luckily enough, a new guy made an appearance in the third act and it sounds like he’s a much better match.
The pacing was good and I finished the book quickly. The only complaint I have is that I wished the end resolved more. However, it is a series and I do plan to read the next one.
When Reagan and her family go to Yellowstone on a family trip, the worst possible thing happens. Sam is taken away, possibly dead and Reagan is severely injured with little memory as to what happened that night. With her nightmares becoming worse, she tries to put the pieces of that night back together but her mom wants to keep her on the medicine which only makes matters worse. Who can she trust? The voices in her head, the new boy in school Rafe and his family, her parents, or the one in her dream? Find out in this amazing first story from the Tala Prophecy!
The author did an amazing job on this book. I loved it. The characters were great and I loved Nana. Can't wait to see what happens next! *scurries of to buy the sequel*

It's no secret: I dig wolves. And werewolves. And the premise of this story seemed to be right up my alley. Reagan Cooper is attacked in the middle of the night by a wild animal while her younger brother is dragged off and presumed dead during a family camping trip to Yellowstone. Afterward, while trying to cope with the gaping hole the loss of her brother leaves in her life, and trying to find some semblance of normal again, she starts having horrific nightmares and hearing voices in her head. She loses interest in her boyfriend and her school activities. The only person who does suddenly attract her interest is the new boy in town, but there's something about him that repels her and puts her on edge at the same time. And while Reagan's parents and the authorities are convinced it was a bear that attacked them, Reagan's dreams are full of wolves, and one in particular, with golden eyes. The only person who seems able to help at all is Reagan's Nana, with her Wiccan beliefs and practices, but Reagan's parents disapprove and become determined to force Reagan into a routine of psychiatrists, drugs, and mental evaluations to figure out what is going on in her head. But as Reagan's behavior become more erratic, and she begins to question her sanity and needs the support of her friends and family the most, she discovers she can't trust anybody and will have to solve the mystery of what's happening to her on her own . . . while she still can.
I was really hooked on this story. I was sucked in by the prologue and looking forward to a good teen paranormal, but I did become a bit dejected in the next chapter when the teenspeak and Twilight references started, but fortunately, the high school drama soon takes a backseat to the spooky mystery of what happened that night and what has been happening to Reagan since then. (And turns out there are more Shiver references than Twilight :) As her parents try to help her with good intentions, though awful results, and as Reagan takes charge and searches for her own answers, truths are slowly and deliciously teased out, including some real What the Heck is Going On moments--and I mean that in a good way. It's refreshing to not be able to predict the outcome or to be able to tell the good guys from the bad. I give Ms. Bach major thumbs up for keeping the story compelling and unputdownable while not actually revealing much about what happened that night in Yellowstone. And I was OK with that. Though I'm anxious to put the pieces together, I can appreciate an intense, slow-burning build-up to a larger and more meaningful revelation.
I really only have two issues with the book: I thought the writing was a little uneven, but I'm hopeful Ms. Bach's style and execution will improve with each book; and I can't say that I was a fan of the abrupt, stop in the middle of the action ending. Especially because I was reading on my Kindle app and was so into the story that I didn't realize I was at the end until it smacked me in the face. Then I had to go back a couple of times to see if my file was missing pages! But it wasn't, and now of course I'm going to have to read the next book to find out what happens!
Overall, it's a great story and a good start to a promising new series--dramatic, mysterious, and scary, with rich characterization and an interesting mix of Wiccan, Native American, and lycanthropic mythology and ideology. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next book. Highly recommended for fans of paranormal YA.
Ever since her brother died while on a trip with her family, Reagan has dealt with her sordid dreams. She has no memory of what happened that night, nor does she know if she'll recover them. Her heart aches with the knowledge that there's nothing she can do to get her brother back. He's gone, and that's a fact she and her family have to deal with now.
Sadly, she's not willing to let things go. There's something about that night that doesn't feel right. She knows there's a lot she needs to remember, but her mind and conscience refuse to allow her to dredge up what's now buried deep within her. Granted, her dreams give her small glimpses into what occurred, but the information gleaned from them aren't enough to help her unlock what she should know.
Determined to make sense of the situation at hand, Reagan delves deeper into the secrets of her past. Secrets, she realizes, her parents don't want her to know. Despite their reluctance to help her make sense of the odd occurrences going on around her, she refuses to give up on trying to understand what happened the night her brother disappeared. She needs to know, to remember, even if her parents don't want her to.
With opposition coming at her from every side, Reagan must now contend with Dex's advances as well as the new guy in school. There's something about Rafe that draws her interest, though she's not exactly sure as to what it is. Her dreams increase by the day, further inciting the urge within her to uncover what she's locked away in her mind. Her family is slowly falling apart, and is barely hanging on by the thread holding them together. Come what may, she will find out what's going on, even if it kills her in doing so.
A suspenseful and mind-boggling ride, Chasing Memories is one of those books that leaves you wondering as to whether what you read really happened. We find ourselves smack-dab in the middle of Reagan's tumultuous life as she and her family try to overcome her brother's unexpected death. Unbeknownst to her, she's been surrounded by the supernatural ever since she was a child. A secret her family has done their best to keep her from discovering.
Unfortunately, the secrets of our past have a way of surfacing unexpectedly. Reagan soon learns this for a fact. Sometimes, those you trust can disappoint you, no matter what you do to try to overcome the adversities coming your way. She's had to learn this fact the hard way. I think Tia beautifully set the stage for what looks like a great series. I can't wait to see what happens next for Reagan and her family.
5 Outstanding Stars I was given a book in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.
CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS
I met Tia at UtopYA 2015 Con in Nashville and was asked to read her books for reviews. I had yet to get into them until I saw the invite for the third full length book come out so naturally I had to start from the first book and dive in. When I opened this book I did not know what to expect, especially with the cover. I did not read the back (I know, shame on me). I went into the book with an open mind. I knew I loved YA books and knew that these books were great for people of all ages because she writes with her children in mind. There is a warning you need to know about the book however, you will be on a ride that will not stop even when you finish with the first book. Chasing Memories is one of the most action packed book I have ever read.
Reagan Cooper is just like any 17 yr old teenager in Colorado. She worries about boys, clothes, and school, that is until her brother is taken/killed from their campsite in Yellowstone National Park. That one night has changed her world forever. What this girl thought she knew was totally opposite of what was the truth in what her world was about to become. Reagan started hearing voices in her head, and her mom sent her to a psychiatrist. She started seeing this boy Rafe (dumped her boyfriend for him) and he was bad news, and he even got worse. Her grandmother came to visit, that helped Reagan, but made life worse for Reagan and her mother. What was going on? People were being secretive around her, and she could not get any answers from anyone until she met Rowan. Who is Rowan you ask? Well I am going to tell you that you have to read the book to find out. Reagan finds out that not everything is as it seems, even your family. Who is good? Who is evil? Who is neutral? Why all the secrets? What is in store for Reagan as she has this huge journey in front of her?
Tia Silverthorne Bach knows how to string you along just until the getting gets good. Then she ends the book so you have to get involved with the second book just to get all the answers (or so you think) to the first book. I love her style of writing. I love all the action in the book, I even love how everyone seems to have a purpose in the story and no characters are just left out there to hang. Thank you for a wonderful read. I recommend this book to anyone of any age.
I will tell you right up front that this book feels very much a cross between the Shiver series and the Beautiful Creatures series. The story is about Reagan who loses her brother in a really horrific accident though his body is never found. This accident seems like the catalyst of her breaking up with her boyfriend, her learning more about her Wiccan relatives, and her crumbling relationship with her parents. There's something wrong with her but she doesn't know what it is and all she's getting is a vague runaround from everyone who seems to know but can't come right out and tell her.
What I really loved about this book is Reagan isn't a wussy. She's angry and rightfully so, she's skeptical, but she's also trying really hard to figure out what's actually going on. In the meantime, she's learning more about her mother, there's drama between mom and grandma, Dad is MIA, brother is presumably dead, she's got a hottie named Rafe who seems sketchy and has a really creepy family and then there's Rowan and you just don't know WHAT to think. I mean, I can understand why the girl is confused and torn on what she should do.
Fortunately, her presumably dead brother Sam's voice rings in her head and helps her out of situations. So there's that.
Overall I really liked this book a lot. It was fast paced, it kept you going, you kept discovering new pieces to the larger puzzle and it ends in a bang. And then leaves you. It leaves you frantically searching for a sequel and I can't find one this is my very public plea- GIVE US THE NEXT BOOK. The problem with books that have sequels is that the sequels are never readily available unless they have been out for awhile. It leaves me with a case of the sads.
Where is Reagan going? Is Rowan a good guy? Because I really hope so, he gives her the flutters whereas Rafe made her puke. If a guy makes you puke, it's usually a bad sign.
So yes- you need to check this book out. This was a great book to have on my Nook and pull out when I was waiting and/or bored somewhere. Finished this thing in no time.
Starting out at a steady pace, CHASING MEMORIES draws you in then drops out from under you leaving you to search for answers along with the protagonist.
Reagan Cooper and her family are enjoying a typical camping trip in Yellowstone. Sleeping in a separate tent from her parents, Reagan is awaken in the night by a scream. Searching the nearby sleeping bag for her brother, Sam, she doesn’t find him but is attacked from behind. Screaming again Regan wakes to find she’s in a hospital and her brother is missing, believed dead. She and her brother were apparently attacked by a grizzly bear.
When nightmares begin to plaque Reagan, she questions what really happened to her brother and herself. Her dreams are filled with images of a wolf, not a bear. As she tries to find answers, she’s treated as though she’s gone mad. Between her erratic behavior, the psychiatrists and constant medication, Reagan isn’t sure who or what to trust anymore.
Author Tia Silverthorne Bach brings the antics and real-life problems of a teen to life through her protagonist, Reagan. She blends a typical teen’s woes with a touch of paranormal for a spellbinding story. Her other characters are well-developed and add depth to the story.
Bach takes readers on a fantasy trip making it realistic. The story begins with the tragic attack, phases back to life prior to the trip and then back to the results of the attack. The story flows smoothly and at a steady pace. This psychological thriller will hold you captivate as the twists and turns unfold.
While the story answers some questions, be warned it does leave you with a cliffhanger as this is the first book in the author’s new Tala Prophecy Series. Reagan, a lover of paranormal books, finds her life has moved into the paranormal realm.
FTC Full Disclosure - This book was sent to me by the publisher as part of the author’s virtual blog tour in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review
I had this book on my Kindle for ages before I got around to reading it. I think I downloaded it during a free promotion but had not paid attention to the summary and thought it was full of poetry or something that I’m equally not actually that keen on, and thus kept putting off reading it at all.
What a stupid decision that turned out to be! Let’s clear it up now, this is actually a really entertaining YA supernatural book, with an engaging main character, side characters which evoked serious emotional responses from me (mostly of the “I want to punch them!” variety, but since that’s what the main character was also feeling, I think that was the point), and a plot full of suspense and intrigue.
Okay, maybe I’m getting a little hyperbolic so let me go into more detail. The main character, Reagan, and her family, suffer a huge tragedy when Reagan’s brother, Sam, is killed in what appears to be a bear attack while they are camping at Yellowstone Park. Sam’s body is never recovered, though, and Reagan starts having strange dreams about a gold-eyed wolf who insists she follow him. Meanwhile, grief starts to drive Reagan and her parents apart, and she becomes closer to her grandmother, a Wiccan woman with whom her mother has had very little to do in a long time, but who seems to be the only one willing to take Reagan seriously.
The book is very fast-paced; I would have read it in one sitting if I had been able to (unfortunately I had to drag myself out of bed to do housework). It was easy to empathise with Reagan, and I found myself always wanting to hit the other characters when they were treating her badly. The teenage characters were depicted convincingly but weren’t annoying to an older reader, and the older characters were also well-rounded. The story arc has been well set up for subsequent books. It does end on a cliffhanger, and I’m certainly looking forward to the next instalment!
Chasing Memories is a young adult paranormal story that is filled with complex relationships and family secrets.
It has suspense, danger, discovery and an unexplainable way of attaching you to its characters. Reagan Cooper is the popular girl. She’s a seventeen year old cheerleader, dates the quarterback, and has a close group of gossipy girlfriends. On the outside everything is perfect, but in truth, Reagan isn’t so confident. She feels she has little control over her life and is looking forward to the upcoming family camping trip to Yellowstone for a little time away from it all. It is this family vacation that changes everything and turns her life into a nightmare.
I really enjoyed this story and would have immediately bought book 2 if it were available. There were instances when I thought I had the story figured out and was surprised time after time when the author took it in a completely different direction. There is some drinking and sexual activity in the book so I wouldn’t recommend it for younger teens but for older teens and adults that enjoy paranormal stories and don’t mind a cliff hanger ending it is a great, fast read. Chasing Memories is only the beginning of the Reagan’s story and I am anxiously awaiting book 2 of Tia Silverthorne Bach’s Tala Prophecy.
I did receive this book as a free ARC copy in exchange for a honest review.
This is more for the Paranormal YA audience.
Reagan is just your typical teenager, worrying about Homecoming court, cheering for her football-star boyfriend.
Her grandmother comes out from Georgia to help the family out. Reagan finds out that her Grandmother is a Wiccan, and that is one of the reasons why her and her mom don't get along. Her mom doesn't want the Wiccan ways pushed on Reagan, or have Reagan involved in them.
Reagan starts seeing a Psychologist to help deal with her feelings and what is going on with her since her brother's 'death'. She still hears him in her head, but, everyone else thinks she's going crazy. Her mom won't believe her at all.
Yep, pretty normal... oh, except for that whole she-might-be-a-werewolf thing.
Chasing Memorise is a fun YA paranormal read. From the very beginning, the book pulls you in with Reagan, the main character who suffers a terrible accident while camping with her family at Yellowstone. The accident changes everything in Reagan’s life as she tries to deal with strange dreams, the loss of her brother, and strange family secrets. Being pulled in several different directions, Reagan goes from being a typical Colorado teenager to someone who is no longer sure who is friend and who is foe. Can she trust Rafe, the new guy at school that takes a certain interest in her, or should she heed her grandmother’s warnings? Maybe her mind is playing tricks on her, or maybe she becoming someone else—something else.
The characters in this book were well written and I connected largely with Reagan and her grandmother, Nana. At times Reagan’s mother got me so mad but that just shows how invested I became in this book. The twist ending left me wishing for more and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. So for anyone looking for a fun YA summer read with a paranormal twist, I’d recommend this book!
Looking for the book for the top of your summer reading book list? LOOK NO FURTHER!
While this book is not typically in my genre of reading, I devoured this read. Exceptionally written with something for everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed Reagan and cannot wait to find out her next chapter in life. A long time series fan, I am hoping there is a sequel to find out about where Reagan's journey takes her.
I enjoyed the setting, the characters, the narration. I could picture myself in Reagan's house, as well as picture the characters the author described so vividly.
This is a fun, fast, fabulous read! It should be on the TOP of your summer reading book list! Here is hoping the author can share Reagan's next chapter soon! Tia Silverthorne BachChasing Memories
Chasing Memories by Tia Silverthorne Bach (Tala Prophecy #1) ★★★☆☆
Reagan wasn’t happy about going camping with her family and having to share a tent with her younger brother. Little did she know the first night would be the only night of camping and an end to the life she had before the trip, caught between hiding from the memories and embracing them to learn the truth about what happened that fatal night and who she really was.
Chasing Memories was a fast read and nice introduction to the series. I enjoyed getting to know Reagan and watching her work through what happened and secrets that she didn’t know about her family before. It is a journey of growing and learning about herself and what she will do to know the truth.
The story starts with a terrible event that spins the story into a mystery because Reagan doesn’t remember what happened. Bits and pieces come back in the form of dreams – which, in turn, helps the reader try to figure out the mystery as well. When the book ends, there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered, propelling the reader to want to read the next book in the series.
I received this book for review from Tribute Books.
Most teenagers live for the day, focusing on friends, planning calendar events and seeking new love interests. Seventeen year old Reagan was not unlike most young people, seeing life through a narrow viewpoint. But it only takes one incident to change everything. And, a camping trip to Yellowstone with her family proved the catapult. Reagan’s younger brother, Sam, is attacked and dragged away. In her struggle to find him, Reagan is mauled. Both incidents are presumably done by a wild animal.
Nothing is the same afterwards. Life alters and a world, larger than Reagan can imagine, opens up for her. The realm of impossible cracks, leaving behind a sphere where realism and mysticism merge and fold over one another, exposing Reagan to a destiny she is caught between.
Ms. Bach has kept her YA novel tight and within a solid framework that makes a good novel excellent—strong characters, beautiful scenery, steady pacing, teen conflict and frayed family dynamics. Add a seasoning of paranormal and this is a must read for everyone, young and old alike.
I'll be honest. It was a rough start for me. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. I'm not sure if I'm intrigued enough to read the next one, but I probably will because I love werewolves.
Things that bugged me the most: 1 Reagan. She really got on my nerves. I could tell as a reader within the first few chapters that she got turned into a werewolf, but she couldn't. And she was kinda ridiculous in some of her decisions. 2. I didn't like the book until like the last half of it. 3. Grandma and Aunt were legit awesome. I could read a whole series on them and be superbly happy. 4. When I read YA novels I expect at least a little bit of romance and there was legit none involved. The only guys mentioned were stupid and a waste of Reagan's time as well as ours. 5. So maybe the first book was just laying the groundwork down. I'm sure the second one will be much better.
I did love the idea about her grandfather and I am intrigued to see how that ends up. Maybe I will read the next one. *shrug*
When teenage Reagan and her family go on a camping trip to Yellowstone, she doesn't know that it will change her life forever. With her brother dead and her family torn apart, no one is willing to believe that she has more answers about that fateful night. When her family thinks that Reagan has lost her last coconut, they tear the family into more pieces. But as she is trying to understand what is going on the answers start coming from a stranger, her mind.
Tia Silverthorne Bach, was a completely new author. Her book Chasing Memories was the first book I ever read by her. But within the first 3 chapters I was hooked more then a fish, that ate a box of bait. I couldn't put it down. I loved the way the book had so many twists and turns lurking around every page. I feel in love with the characters and I was able to feel the emotions in the words. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is clean and completely awesome. Great for any paranormal lover or teenagers that are just starting to enter the wonderful world of reading.
I freaking loved this book! It was just the right pace and had a few twists that totally surprised me, especially the ending. I never seen that coming. What I loved most about the book were the characters. The author created a family faced with grief and showed the tough reality of how each one dealt with it in a different way and she then added the paranormal slant that made things more exciting and dramatic. The anguish and heartache they felt came right through the pages and allowed me to really dig into this story. Even the anger and frustration the characters expressed felt real and even at times I felt myself get angry for the pain they seemed to cause each other.
This book had it all! Drama, suspense, unexpected plot twists, raw emotion and of course just the right amount of paranormal. I loved every second of this book and highly recommend it.
Wow, I thought this was a great book! Once I got started I had a hard time putting it down. I downloaded this book free to my Kindle and I knew I had other books from my public library to read, but once I got started I was like must keep reading. I have to find out what happens next. I thought that the characters were very well written and so was the plot. I think that Reagan is such a great main character. I felt bad for her that she was alone in all this expect from the help of her Nana. People thought she was crazy and had no idea who she could trust. Reagan's mother is a piece of work. She thinks she is "protecting" her, but that protection has done more harm than good. Now I have bought the second book in the trilogy and can not wait to start reading it. I am ready for some answers.
CHASING THIS AUTHOR for life now as I loved this book. This book was so fun, fresh, suspenseful, and different than any book I have read before. The story was entertaining and unpredictable. The characters are cool and complex. I loved the suspense and twists.
Reagan is a 17 year old girl with a very protective family. All she wants is to know what is going on with her as she is changing. But who can she trust? Who would understand? What really happened to her brother?
This is the first book I have read by this author, Tia Silverthorne Bach. I am beyond impressed with her fast paced, smooth flowing, fun writing style. This book caught my attention immediately and had me trading sleep for the need to finish this in one night. I am excited to read the rest of this series.
Tia Silverthorne Bach is absolutely brilliant. Every time I thought I figured something out she proved me wrong and the ending was so not what I expected!
MIND BLOWING!
Absolutely loved it, even if I didn't get the answers that I wanted but that only means I have to continue reading the series to find out.
This isn't going to be one of those reviews were you read a synopsis of the book, ruin what happens to why bother reading the book. Really hate those types of reviews, personally. Therefore, all I will say is the book won't disappoint. The setting is from Tia's personal experience and describes perfectly personalities and how they should be reacting.
OMG-Such a good read! What a cliff hanger! This story is so intriguing. I brings you and keeps a hold of you until the end. The character building is wonderful. The writing is strong for a Young Adult novel and it has quite a few moments that made me laugh too. I can't wait for Book 3 and the Novella for this series. It's a great twist on the Paranormal Romance genre. It's got romance, but it's not overdone. Just enough to keep you wanting more and more! (Copied from other page since this book is listed twice)
