Cassidy St. Claire still wasn't sure what she'd been hoping to find when she began the search for her birth parents, but all she’d uncovered was a bunch of death certificates and one ailing great-uncle who’d finally kicked the bucket last week. Since Cassidy is the last surviving member of the family that means his estate, a small seaside bed and breakfast in New Hampshire, has been left to her. An odd stipulation in his Will requires that she appear in person to inherit the property. Cassidy isn't very hopeful that this weekend trip will lead to anything more than a momentary distraction from her busy life, and an excuse to take her convertible for a long drive up the coast. She certainly isn't prepared for Mr. Tall Handsome and Brooding; Ben Riley has been running the bed and breakfast for the last several years, and he is definitely less than welcoming. His instant dislike for her is staggering, but his penetrating green eyes burn with a dangerous mixture of hostility and attraction. Within days of her arrival an attempt is made on her life and then another. Suddenly Cassidy finds herself trying to unravel the mysteries of the past, while outrunning the dangers of the present and finally turning to the strong, protective arms of Ben Riley and a future she'd never imagined.
Tracey Smith grew up in Southern California, but as a teenager moved with her family to a small town in Arkansas. It was in Arkansas that she met and fell in love with the man of her dreams, who had also recently moved to the state. Fate brought them both to that small town and into each other’s lives and that is where they continue to live today raising their two children and living out their happily ever after.
First off, the writing was very good! The first half of the story was my favorite part. The chemistry between Ben and Cassidy was sizzling but also tense and cute. I truly enjoyed their bather back and forth. Ben had strong contempt for Cassidy, and I love that she could have been a wimp and whined, but she was challenged instead and set him straight. The plot was fun and interesting. And although I figured out the mystery early on, it was still fun to ride the wave of all the twist and turns. I will recommend this to all my friends. Great job!!
Cedar Hollow is the first Romantic Suspense book by Tracey Smith, author of the Love Trilogy. Tracey already had the romance writing down, and she has nailed the suspense aspect with her initial endeavor in this genre.
The author's writing style is easy to follow. The story-line is fast-paced, as a good suspense novel should be. I didn't want to put it down – but I had to. Couldn't pull an all-nighter, because I had to work the next day.
Part of the suspense and intrigue is due to the periodic narratives by “The Chosen One”, a mysterious avenger whose time of reckoning has come, to right the wrongs, and let no one stand in the way. The first such narrative is at the end of Chapter One, so right away the reader is drawn in to the mystery. As I was reading, I correctly suspected a certain character as being “The Chosen One,” but this didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book at all.
There are also gothic elements that increase the suspense in the book. Cassidy feels a sensation of coldness whenever she walks near the foot of the 3rd floor staircase. The unused rooms on the 1st floor are kept ominously dark. Even though Cassidy closes her curtains at night, they're open in the morning.
The main characters, Cassidy and Ben, are well written, and are my favorites. At the beginning of the book, Cassidy comes across as a rather cold-hearted workaholic businesswoman, in charge of acquisitions for a resort chain, which means talking people into selling their property to the resort. Ben, who has a chip on his shoulder for an unknown reason, resents her for the job she does. As the story progresses, the reader learns of Cassidy's history, and why Ben felt that way towards her. Learning “the rest of the story” makes both characters more likeable.
Also as the story progress, several accidents occur, with Cassidy barely escaping serious injury. During the time when the accidents were occurring, the relationship between Ben and Cassidy evolves – from Ben being barely civil to Cassidy, to Ben being intimate with Cassidy (with three explicit scenes). This romantic suspense is heavy on the romance! The mystery is finally solved, with an exciting climax to the story.
I enjoyed this book very much, and rated it four out of five stars. It is a pleasing blend of suspense and romance. If you like Harlequin® romances, and the gothic novels of Barbara Michaels, you'll love Cedar Hollow by Tracey Smith!
Let me start by saying that after Romance, mystery is my next favorite genre. It was a pleasant surprise to get BOTH in this book! In the early chapters we are introduced to the bed and breakfast and learn just how creepy it is.
“This house had such an overwhelming effect on a person’s sense of well-being. It was unnerving.”
Cassidy is a city girl and is pretty far out of her element out in the middle of nowhere. Ben Riley is the brooding man who has been “Cassidy felt an odd tension building between them, somewhere between hostility and attraction. Both of them were avoiding eye contact.”caring for the inn formany years. The two butt heads almost immediately, even though we know that Cassidy finds him attractive. When she learns the stipulation to her uncle’s will (she must stay for 30 consecutive days in the house) it surprises Ben when she agrees to comply. Ben and Cassidy start some research into the past of the family, they also learn things about each other as they warm up to one another. The story twists and turns and leads you in several different directions, trying to figure the mystery out. I was definitely surprised by the outcome of the book…I totally did not see it coming!Cassidy decides to make herself useful. I loved that she had no problem getting dirty and doing some good old fashioned yard work! She had a point to prove to Ben that she could keep up. The two begin to spend more time together and their stories begin to unravel. Cassidy’s life is in danger, but by who? The Chosen One makes an appearance after several chapters leaving us wondering who he/she is. Let me tell you, I was reading this while vacationing at my cabin in the Poconos and I was instantly FREAKED out….what the f*&k is The Chosen One?
I enjoyed reading this, even if I did have a freak out moment, and I hope you will like it too!
Cedar Hollow is an excellent book and I loved reading this romantic suspense novel! It definitely had me hooked from the start and I didn't want to put it down. It was different than other novels I've been reading lately in that there was a mystery to be solved as well. It also had some elements that made it a bit creepy and spooky which surprisingly I thought was really fun!
The author Tracey Smith made it really easy for all of us by casting the characters herself and I completely agree with her casting.
The plot moves quickly and is easy to follow which is great. I thought the characters of Cassidy St. Claire & Ben Riley were really well developed and I loved how you find out more and more about them while reading the book. At the beginning they are quite standoffish and I was wondering where the romance part of this romantic suspense novel was. When that comes though, it hits you with a bang and is very gripping to read!
I highly recommend you read this book if you are looking for a unique book that's not like all the other romance/new adult books coming out at the moment!
I am lucky enough to be part of a blog tour for Tracey Smith this week and I received an advanced copy to read. As usual I will give away a copy as well at Bec's Book Blog
Cedar Hollows isn't normally the kind of book I would pick to read, but when Tracy contacted me to see if I would read it and give an honest review I thought why not, I need to expand my reading. I am so glad and grateful for this chance, I was totally engulfed into the story from the beginning. Cassidy, a successful business lady from Chicago, travel to Cedar Hollows to decide what she will do with a bed and breakfast her late great uncle as left her. Upon arrival the place is a complete lose and creepy. The only perk she sees is Ben, the tall, dark, and handsome groundskeeper. As the details of her great uncles will unfolds, her stay is extended and more mysterious of her biological family are exposed. As she finds herself in numerous dangerous situations Cassidy finds herself drawn to the safety she feels with Ben. Being a romance/erotic fan I found her love scenes completely top notch, hot and steamy! Someone is trying to kill Cassidy and she starts to question everything. My mind was blown when it revealed who and why they were after her. I read this book in one night. I had to know what happened with Cassidy and if Ben was the person he seemed to be!
I admit it, I often read books based on pretty covers! When Tracey Smith and I discussed me reviewing Cedar Hollow, I wasn't so fond of the book cover. I told myself, "Stop being ridiculous, Cherene, the book cover says nothing about her writing." And, how...
I got about 10% through this book and, arrogantly, figured I had Ms. Tracey Smith figured out. I figured that I could flip to the back page, have the entire story, and that would be the end of that. I kept reading anyway.
I discovered three things:
1. I was wrong.
2. I was wrong.
3. I was wrong.
It happens sometimes - please don't let my boyfriend know.
Cedar Hollow is a well-written, light, romantic who-done-it. It touches on a, as far as I know, newer genre of mixing steamy romance with suspenseful mystery.
Thinking I had this novel figured out was a mistake. Tracey Smith has the power to surprise you and leaves several twists through out the novel.
I'm not a big fan of wardrobe description - describing outfits and dressing routines - and there was a bit of that, but it was minimal enough that it didn't pull me out of the story.
What a great book, don't let the cover deter you. This book is so well-written, full of mystery and romance.
Cassidy St. Clair has lost her adopted family and seeks out her birth parents. Little does she know her biological family are all dead, but not without finding out about her first. She's inherited a bed and breakfast but the rules are she has to leave her amazing career in Chicago for a small town and stay for 30 days. Cassidy immediately feels for the Bed and Breakfast's cook/housekeeper and knows she can't throw her out...and then there is Ben the sexy guy that won't give her the time of day, until her life is threatened, not once but several times so you realize this is no accident. She then finds out everyone in her family has been murdered and she tries to find out why. This story is suspenseful and full of romance, New Adult meets Mystery!
Why you should read this book: Very well written, no grammatical errors or misspellings. A little hotness mixed with mystery. You'll truly enjoy the characters.
I really enjoyed this book. The twists and turns of who is trying to kill Cassidy and why were very interesting. I was suprised by who the person ended up being. The interactions between Cassidy and Ben were dynamic and interesting. It really showed how people make judgements of others based on their own life experiences before they even get to know the person. I liked that Cassidy stood up for herself. There were a couple of minor questions I had left at the end of the book, but they in no way detract from the enjoyment of the story. I would have liked a little more background about the "Chosen One". This will definately go on my re-read shelf! I look forward to reading more by this author.
*I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed reading this well written book. The story line and the characters pull you in from the very beginning. The book is an excellent mix between romance and suspense. Cassidy comes to Cedar Hollow to sign off on some papers for property that she has inherited, boy only if she knew what was in store for her when she arrives. Cassidy meets Ben and they don't get along at all,I loved their bantering back and forth. Soon Cassidy and Ben become close, and they both realize that someone is trying to kill her. This book is full of twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your reading chair trying to figure out who is after her. The ending was amazing and it was so not what I expected. This book is a must read and I promise you wont be disappointed!!!!!!
I was going to give this book 3 stars but decided not to because the ending of the book was CRAP !
I enjoyed the book up until the last bit where the killer was revealed. The suspense was good, Cassidy's whole family wiped out. Who did it and why duh duh duhhhhhh.... Well, the butler did it well the housekeeper to be exact... But why ? coz shes nuts !!!!!
I wanted a more in-depth explanation as to who she was, the housekeeper that is. why was she locked in the attic as a child? who was her mother.. nada zilch nothing....

Tracey smith is a talented writer who makes you connect with the characters and fall in love with them. I was hooked from the very first chapter and loved the tension between Ben and cassy and liked that she kept up with his challenges and never backed down. Couldn't put the book down to see what happened next, keeps you guessing and was really excited when they finally were together ;) I definitely recommend this book.
This book is the complete package! It's mysterious, suspenseful and highly original which grants Cedar Hollow the opportunity to gain a wider range of bookworms.
I really liked this book. It grabbed me from the first sentence. Great visuals were given and the characters had a lot of depth. I didn't want to stop reading!
Original review found at http://kristineandterri.blogspot.ca/2... I don't always read the synopsis when choosing books to read because I find that sometimes it gives too much of the story away. When choosing this book I quickly skimmed the first bit and totally missed the last paragraph. I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the end of chapter one and there was a paragraph from "The Chosen One" and I realised that Cedar Hollow was a romantic/suspense. It was a welcome break from my last few reads and I was hooked!
Cassidy inherits a bed and breakfast from the last member of her birth family which brings her to Cedar Hollow to sign the legal papers. An unusual stipulation dictates that she live in the house for 30 days before she can claim it and the story takes off from there.
Cassidy's initial impressions of the bed and breakfast are not good. She finds it dark and creepy and can't understand why people would want to stay there. It is here that she meets the cook/housekeeper and grounds keeper that have been running the place for years. Cassidy has an immediate physical attraction to the hunky but mysterious groundskeeper, Ben, but quickly discovers that the personality does not match the body and they begin to butt heads immediately. Ben thinks that Cassidy is a spoiled, rich city girl that only cares about selling to the highest bidder and being on her way.
I really enjoyed the interaction between Ben and Cassidy and how their relationship changed as the story progressed. Ben went from barely tolerating Cassidy to extremely protective when they both realised that she was in danger and someone was after her. There is an undeniable chemistry between the two that continues to build until fireworks explode. I found myself smiling and thinking "finally!"
I will admit that I figured out who "The chosen one" was very early on in the story but that is not unusual for me and it did nothing to stop me from enjoying it. The mystery behind Cassidy's birth family and their suspicious deaths kept me glued to the pages. Cedar Hollow is very well written and I enjoyed every minute of it. Tracey Smith is a new author to me and I have no doubt that I will be reading more of her books.

Cassidy St. Claire is from Chicago & about to embark on searching for her biological parents. She uncovers a bunch of death certificates & great-uncle that died last week. Cassidy is the last of her clan & she will inherit his estate in Cedar Hollows, a small seaside bed/breakfast in NH that he left her.
Cassidy goes to the reading of the will & she meets handsome Ben Riley the groundskeeper who has been running the place for quite some time. He however does not appear to have a great personality & really does not like her.
Several attempts are made on her life. She tries to unravel the mysteries & must ask Ben Riley for help.
Will Cassidy find her birth parents? Who is out to kill her? Will Ben & her kindle a romantic relationship?
Awesome book cover, font & writing style. A fast paced action packed romantic thriller, suspense mystery thriller. A very well written book, it was easy to read/follow & never a dull moment. Lots of surprising twists/turns. No grammar errors, or out of line sequence sentences. Quite the unique set of characters. Might make a great scary romance movie or TV series. I will still give this book 5 stars
Thank you for the free book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
3.5* Pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
Right off the bat, I'm knocking a whole star off because of that ~long blonde hair~ bullshit. Why was there so much emphasis put on the fact that she had ~LONG BLONDE HAIR~? I. Did. Not. Care. I hate blonde hair, and the fact that I kept being reminded that she was blonde pissed me off, and the fact that it had to be specified that it was ~long~ pissed me off even more.
I knocked another half star off because the plot was kind of ridiculous. It was different, and I enjoyed it, but it was still ridiculous.
I was not surprised by the killer, but I was surprised by the true identity of the killer.
I didn't care for Ben at first, but I grew to like him. I enjoyed his and Cassidy's relationship. I thought it was sweet.
~*~Slight Spoiler~*~
The ending was okay. I would've liked another chapter or an epilogue to wrap things up more, especially their relationship. I mean, did he move to Chicago with her? He's a fucking farmer with a high school diploma. What kind of job would he get? How would it all work out?
Loved this one!!! It truly kept me on my toes with the action; I couldn't put it down! The romance mixed in was very very sweet too, I just wish it had been explained more, I thought there would be something to all of the warnings she was receiving about him, but hmm.. sequel maybe??? The ending just went by too quickly for me, I wanted more! haha Not to say it wasn't well wrapped up, it went out with a huge bang, wow! I was just craving a bit more sweetness afterwards and to know more about why&how they worked so well together. They both seemed so hesitant and then were like permanently together, I loved that but it was a teeny bit peculiar, or maybe I'm just looking for extra mysteries here ++ I've been spoiled by too many epilogues as of late. Anyway, off to check out more books by this author, highly recommended!!!
This was an enjoyable read! I was quite impressed. A strong 4.5 star rating.
Pros: * The moments of intimacy were sizzling * Fast paced, exciting read * Stand-alone (those are becoming a rarity these days) * Offered as a freebie
Cons: * I felt the characters could have used a bit more depth, but they still managed to be likeable
I will definitely recommend this read and I plan to check out more of this authors work in the future.
Loved this book! Found it hard to put it down as I just had more and more questions at the end of each chapter! I can't really say much more without spoiling it for those who have not read it, but it is well worth a read - you will be hooked from the first page. The book has so many twists and turns to keep your interest :)
This is such a nice lovely story! The writing was great and such a mystery ! It has you turning the pages until you are finished and left satisfied ! I will be looking for more books from this author:)
This one was just ok for me. I felt like I could get into the story, but I didn't find the 'suspense' aspect to be as strong as I would like, and I wish there had been more time (and interactions) before the conclusion. A fairly short book, and the ending was kind of abrupt.
Mystery and romance. Loved it. Well written. Likable characters. Love the chemistry between the two of them. I just felt like the ending was a little rushed. Other than that, great book!
I will admit I figured out who was behind everything before it was revealed, but that didn't stop me from really enjoying the story. It had good twists and turns and it kept me engaged.
