This is a pretty good for helping you get started with your first ukulele. It's concise, so it doesn't overwhelm you with information, but it does cover all the basics. As a standalone book, it may not be instructive enough for true beginners of a string instrument, but the audio access it includes can add further assistance. All in all, I'd say it makes a fine addition to a beginner's ukulele instruction.
Why am I rating a music book? Well because I finished it and it's not every day that I finish a music book. Overall it's a pretty good introduction to playing the ukulele with some easy song selections. I am hoping that if the series continues the author will weave some soloing and strumming together in the same arrangements. Some of the strum techniques in this didn't feel natural so I chose to alter that. I look forward to advancing both in my play and in the series.
This is a great book for starting the Ukulele! Teaches you how to read music on the staff as well as chords and simple strums. There is a code for access to audio you can listen/download online. I’m also studying the guitar method version and it is great too. So far my first choice in method books I’ve read/studied for both ukulele and guitar.
I’m disappointed that the book does not include any material on the G string which to me makes the Ukulele Method Book 1 incomplete. When I purchased the book, I took a quick look. Saw the the C string exercises and didn’t look any further. I assumed all four strings would be covered.
I never expected to give this 5 stars before I read it but it really impressed me. I've started the Yousician app free version months ago but then stopped using it for a month so I'm having to get back up to speed with the uke and while I still like the free version of Yousician, I'd never convert to a paying customer because their aggressive cost structure is not even close to being worth it for me. But this book at around five bucks is a very good deal. Some print versions come with a CD and I've used music books with CDs before and wasn't really happy with them in general. The Kindle version of this book includes audio files that can be listened to by clicking or pressing an icon embedded in the reading material so much more convenient than having to go back to a CD and select 1 of 100 tracks. I practiced the uke and read this book at night on an IPOD touch using amazon/kindle app while swinging back and forth on a porch swing to avoid mosquitos and was able to listen to audio without any issues so it was all quite convenient. This book also uses tabs and normal sheet music for it's songs which is something I had been looking for and was having trouble finding it. All in all, this book is a great resource and tool so I'm satisfied with the purchase. I'm about to start on book 2.
This book helped a little, but the majority of it was just notes and not chords, so it's not the best method book out there. (I skimmed the latter half about notes, because pretty much everyone knows how to play a note.)
