After being let go from his job three days earlier, Carson Heywood is on his way to the airport. He is leaving Chandler, Washington behind, to begin a new chapter in his life, and to follow his heart. Many life-altering events leading up to this moment has Carson filled with anticipation and fear, wondering if he is making the right choice to move across the country to be with Stephen Rowan. Armed with a purple bear, hope, and a chance at happiness before time runs out, Far & Away will leave a lasting impression on you... for a lifetime.
Author of novels and short stories. Jayson James graduated from Western Washington University with a bachelor's degree in education. He was born and raised in Washington State, where he currently lives and teaches. Jayson's interests beyond writing include reading a variety of books, watching movies and drawing.
Whereas the blurb is interesting, the actual book is written in very stiff and clunky prose. It reads like an ESL writer with its lack of contractions and awkward phrasing, its formality and repetition.
Aside from the prose itself, the creative writing is quite poorly constructed as well. This is all reported, all tell, with time jumps and a plot arc that required greater skill and finesse to pull off than James possesses.
I'll also make brief mention of the over-sentimentality that coated this story in syrup and even served to make a poignant issue in the plot barely resonant.
This was my first Jayson James book. I wasn't sure about the writing style at first but the characters kept me reading. It was a sweet story and I will definitely try other books from this author in the future.
This is one of those books that has the potential to be tug at your heart and make you fall in love. Sadly, it only kind of does that. Most of the time I felt like I was being given an accounting of the facts, with a few lines of dialogue thrown in. I felt so distanced from the MC's. I wanted to like this so badly, and there are parts where I thought the story would let me in more, but it didn't happen.
Note: This is a light and short read. When I got this, it was offered up as a Freebie.
In Far & Away, we have Heywood getting ready for his one way trip to join his boyfriend Stephen who lives in another state. He loves this man, they understand each other, they communicate and they just fit perfectly. One complication: he has never met Stephen face to face. They have always been text-mates and phone pals. You see, they met on a chat site before they took their relationship to the next level.
This is a scenario that many would think ridiculous or illogical. Thing is, with technology these days, it is quite common. And frankly, men have relied on mail-order brides for hundreds of years so it is really not that far fetched.
What makes this such a beautiful love story is the situation that is Heywood. He has a secret and not all know about it. His secret he has shared with Stephen and instead of a rebuff, he is loved even more. Unconditionally.
This may be a light and short read, but it is a stirring and emotional read that makes all of us long for a love like this. A relationship that can hold up to difficulties. Making love last a lifetime. No matter how short the time may be.
Thank you Jayson James. This was just beautiful. And that bear on the cover...
This was a lovely story unfortunately I had an issue. The writing style...not sure if the writer is ESL or what happened but the writing comes off as very stiff. A little bit of good editing and better flow of words and I'd be giving this higher stars.
I liked the plot premise - two guys, finally going to meet and start a life together and through the journey we learn how they met, they problems they encounter and why they are choosing the options they have. However, it didn't draw me in,possibly because it was more a narrative but also the language seemed very formal and stilted a lot of the time, even in the dialogue sections. I did pickit up free on Amazon, maybe a longer treatment would allow me to get more invested in the MC's
A good short story It would have got a better star review if it had been a longer story!! It would have been good if there was more to how the relationship had developed and how they coped once tbey had moved to b together.
This story was sweet, loving, and full of hope, despite pretty much grabbing my heart and breaking it right from the start. It's a short story about finding the one and leaving your comfort zone to explore the love you have discovered.
I don't usually read short books but it was by a fav authour and recommended by a reliable source! I cried, I sniffled......this was pure, unadulterated true love at the max! Nuff said
