I'm used to getting what I want. I've always taken what I wanted. No apologies. No excuses.
I know what it feels like to be betrayed, when someone else is calling all the shots. I've been down that road, and I'm not going there again. I've got my family, my friends, and the brotherhood. That's all I need.
I believe in Fate. Everything happens for a reason. But what do you do when Fate kicks you in the gut, plays a cruel joke on you?
When I met Quincy Priest, she was a flame I couldn't put out. A freakin' wildfire. She blew in to my life, burned it to the ground, then left me standing in the ashes. Gone as suddenly as she came. I'm not sure if I should love her or hate her… But I don't hate her. I could never hate her.
What do you do when the person who broke you may be the only person who can put you back together?
Can you run from Fate?
Do you even want to?
You've read Quincy's story... now, let me introduce you to Brody. Fate is the 2nd book in the Choices series. Either book can be read as stand alone. Fate is a new adult contemporary romance intended for audiences 18+.
Sydney Lane lives in Nashville, TN with her family. Growing up in Smalltown, USA, Sydney dreamed of being a writer. After spending an outrageous amount of money to go to college, Sydney finally decided to follow her heart. Her debut, Choices, was an Amazon Top 100 Coming of Age novel. Sydney is very active in charity work for anti-bullying and depression awareness groups.
I'm really not a huge fan of books being rewritten in a different POV. They usual make me feel as if I'm reading the first book again. Bravo to Sydney Lane for NOT making me feel this way! Fate let us delve deeper into the dilemma Brody finds himself in.
I must admit I have been a Team Brody member since Choices. I love it when the bad boys find that they do indeed have emotions that don't revolve around their nether regions. Fated just confirmed that love I felt for him. He is sexy and very torn with what he should do when he and Declan both fall for Quincy.
The emotion I felt as he watched Quincy be with Declan was unbearable! I cried through a box a tissues. That says a great deal about the way the story was written since I already knew the outcome!
I am a forever Sydney Lane fan and she should be on every ones radar!
"Quince, I want to be the person you run to. I want to be the one you trust when the darkness falls. I want to know your dreams, and I want to breath the air you breathe. I want to be the one who makes you smile. I just want to be with you. Just trust me, Quince! Trust me enough to be with me. Let me love you every day for the rest of your life."
As this book has not been published yet I am limited in what I can say. It is the story of Choices from the point of view of Brody. there is new material here, and you get inside Brody's head a lot more. I was not at all a fan of him after the first book, but like him some more now. A rip snorting good story, and some serious, serious heat.
4 Stars|Amazon|Goodreads| Meg's Review: I thoroughly enjoyed getting to read this awesome second story in the series. It was Book One form Brody's POV. It gave me a much different perspective on the story and a different feel for the characters which threw me a little. I had to go reread Choices once I started this because I was thrown by what I was feeling for certain characters. Only a very well written book can do that, and this one succeeded in spades.
Having Brody's POV from this situation was great. It not only was a story of love and betrayal, but a story of a troubled history. It added such depth to his character. He drove me Crazy!!! and Oh Goodness I really liked Quincey in Choices but her indecicivness and naivety irked me a little in the first book, but the second. Gosh I wanted to strangle her. She really just Gah! But I loved her too. I loved her as Brody did.
A stellar read. It was an easy read and kept me hooked till the end. Very well written and paced. I didn't feel as is an of the chapters dragged and that really helped with keeping you reading. Kudos Sydney. Another read I won't soon forget. Synopsis: I'm used to getting what I want. I've always taken what I wanted. No apologies. No excuses.

I've said it before, I'll say it over and over again...I love the male POV!!! Review to come...
**FULL REVIEW**
This one is short...well, because it's a re-telling...no need to discuss details.
“Thought I try not to look over my shoulder, I catch him watching the girl more than once. He’s definitely interested in her. I’m not sure why, but it bothers me. Maybe for once, I’d like to get the nice girl.” *** “Why can’t I stop thinking about her? She’s just a girl. Like any other girl at the party tonight. But I already know she isn’t.”
When you read a story the first time and it speaks to you, reading it again just seems like coming back to an old friend. When given the opportunity to read the story from a different perspective…I cannot explain how it makes me feel. I love hearing both sides of a story. And reading Fate which is from Brody’s prospective…AMAZING. Seeing his struggles with the decision of whether or not to pursue Quincy, hearing his thoughts…there is nothing quite like seeing inside a sexy man’s mind. I loved every page.
“He’s happy, really happy, and I love him enough to drop it. She’s nothing to me. Say it. Repeat it. Believe it.”
Except she’s everything…and when a girl comes between brothers, more than fists fly.
“If it weren’t for Declan, I’d go after her full force, get what I want, and work her out of my system. But that’s the crux of the problem.”
Thanks to Sydney for your arc & trusting in me to hold your work close to my heart & believing in me as a person you can trust. I hold you dear to my heart;) I can see your perfection as there are no mistakes that I can see!
Read this book in 2 days about~ loved it just as much as the first book ~ I usually won't read different POV's to me they ruin my thoughts of the 1st book, but this had enough twists & turns to make it feel like a new story of its own. I love the characters just as much now as I did before. More subjects that hit home again and which makes it close to me. Both books Choices & Fate were awesome reads!!
Just a small piece that grabs your thoughts~
"That's just the thing. I didn't give up on her. She gave up on me. When the shit hit the fan, she asked for someone else. She asked for him. End of story. It's kind of ironic that I've always believed in Fate, and it was Fate who kicked the shit out of me. It's only now that I see things clearly. Fate can lead you down a road, but you can't control what happens along the way. You can't make decisions for someone else. Sometimes, maybe you misread the signs, and Fate wasn't involved at all. You just wanted something so bad, you tried to make it happen yourself. But there is one thing that keeps you believing.... maybe sometimes, maybe Fate gets it right."
~ Hope you chose to read Sydney's books you won't regret it!! Worth it all the way~
Brody's POV!!! And it does SOOO much justice to his character! After reading Choices(book 1) I despised Brody's character, even though I secretly loved him. Hey, I have a thing for the bad boys...so sue me...hehe. I love the inside snipits we get from Brody. Why he is the way he is, why he does what he does. We also start to see why he can't just get over Quincy. Brody strives to be the better man, better brother to Declan...but Quincy has him starstruck. Brody's POV aims to please. I got the lustful side of him and what he experiences when he's with Quincy, and goodness that definitely does NOT disappoint! With Quincy, I know that Declan is the safe guy and Brody is all sorts of bad news...but yet, he's just the amount of right for her too. Brody's reactions to the barriers in the story are more heartfelt and we get a little more of the story from where book 1 left off. I absolutely love the last line in the book:
"No, not backwards. Not even sideways. Fate just got it right."
Flippin' fantastic way to end the book...even though I am sooo ready for more of these two! Great series! And I know some people have a hard time with another character POV, but trust me this one explains from a whole new angle and so much more!
I loved the first book in this series, Choices, and couldn't wait to read Fate. I loved reading the story from Brody's point of view and knowing what he was thinking. Brody is one of my favorite book boyfriends of 2013. I am looking forward to reading Declan's book when it comes out. I also hope that Declan and Brody's friendship can go back to the way it was before Quincy came along, and not be as strained as it seems to be now. Hopefully once Declan meets his girl, he will realize Qunicy never was the one for him, that way he and Brody will get their friendship back and things won't be so awkward when they are around one another. I also hope that Seth gets his own book. I liked his character in Fate, and I am curious to know what his story is. He had some insightful moments and seemed to be in his head a lot/beating himself up about something, so hopefully we will get to find out what that is. Once again, Sydney Lane wrote a fantastic book that I could not put down. I can't wait to read more from this amazing author! :)
Thank you for filling the blanks! For those of you who read Choices, you will love Fate! You already have an idea of Brody's personality in mind, but with this book you see his point of view. I needed that and the author gave me more than I expected. With this book you get to fall in love, you get to see him grow up and become a man. You even get intrigue by, other characters, his friends. I was so excited and anxious to get to the end of the book, because reading Choices I new that he was devastated and I needed to know how he managed. I also think the author gave a great future to this couple, and the story as well as the ending is beautiful. This book really gives meaning to the saying: "you need to hear both sides before you make a decision."
love this book! Come on now, how often do we ever get to see the drama of love beginning from a male point of view. (A very gorgeous droolworthy male may I add) WHo ever thought this concept up was genius. I love how exposed Brody is and how raw the emotions are portrayed. Ms. Lane made Brody come to life like he was one of our best friends...or even family. This whole series is very intense. It makes the reader feel as the characters do. Each one keeps getting better and better. Brody I am always in your corner!!! Sometimes it does pay to be the bad guy lol. Great read, great characters and I am telling you it is one of those that make you mad that you are finished reading......because you have to wait on the next one!!!!
Finally! I enjoyed the first book in the series but I never really connected with Brody's character. But yay for this book because I was able to do that (good, since this book is his POV!) and see what all the fuss was about.
I still like Declan better and I can't wait for his book but seeing the struggle Brody went through and how much he really loved Quincy, I was able to forgive he and Quincy for breaking Declan's heart.
There isn't a lot of new material to this book since it is a re-telling of the first but I still recommend it because it will help you understand what Brody was going through.
I loved Choices, I was always team Brody as much as I loved Declean. I didn't realize this book was Brody's POV. I liked Brody's point of view, you got to know him better. What I loved the most is the ending of this book. It gives you a Happily Ever After. A Declean book with a new love interest would be nice (not his pov to the same story) and a Eric and Jenna book too. Good cast of characters. Love Brody!!
Fate is fantastic! I really enjoyed Choices, but I loved Fate. This is the story from Brody's POV which happened to be my favorite character in Choices. The constant internal struggle he deals with shatters the bad boy image he has in Choices and makes you want to root for him and Quincy. Declan is next to have his voice heard and I can't wait to read his thoughts and feelings. Love this series!
I HAVE TO SAY THIS BOOK IS A STAND ALONE BUT I ADVISE READING BOOK 1 AS THEY ARE THE SAME STORY BUT WROTE FROM DIFFERENT POV. THIS BOOK WAS FANTASTIC FULL OF SURPRISES AND QUITE A PLEASANT READ. CANT WAIT TO READ MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR.
) Something about this Has touches my heart. It had so many elements to it. I held my breath in many a chapter hoping for the best I think sydney is an amazing author. I can not express my feelings to do this review justice. So let me just say I loved it and it will stay in my mind and heart.
This was a very quick read. Not a sequel by any means, but more another point of view from the prior book (Choices). I enjoyed seeing thia side of the story, but the very end when the POV changed for one brief chapter it seemed odd to me and a little unnecessary. Overall not a terrible story, but this should be read as book 2 and not as a standalone. I feel it would make more sense with some "backstory."
Review for Choices (3 stars) and Fate (3.5 stars):
I usually steer clear of books that I know will involve a love triangle, because they drive me batty. But I decided to grab up this book because I was intrigued by two such polar opposite love interests vying for Quincy’s attention. To have the sweet friend-prince charming versus the smoking hot player, there was bound to be a lot of tension and angst here, and of course at least one broken heart.
With Choices from Quincy’s perspective and Fate from the point of view of the lucky guy she ends up choosing (nope, not telling!), there was definitely a full story covered when both books are read. I wish we could have had a dual POV with the first book instead though, because I feel like it would have given the story more depth and made the characters less one-dimensional. I just didn’t feel like I was getting their full picture, and I wasn’t drawn to these characters per se, until I saw both sides of the story. But there was plenty of sexual tension and some really tender moments that filled the pages of both books, which tugged on the heart strings.
Quincy’s reactions to Brody and Declan were so vastly different, but it was a bit too obvious who she was leaning towards for most of the story even though the reader isn’t seeing it from his eyes. I wasn’t convinced by the back-and-forth, it was clear she was drawn to one more than the other, and I had to agree with her base instincts! Both guys were yummy, don’t get me wrong. Declan was gorgeous, the knight in shining armor, always there for her and ready to give her his heart. But was he really what she needed? And Brody may be sex on legs, but deep down did he GET her? It was surely a clear-cut ‘choose one type of guy or choose the other’ unless one of these two guys was willing to be more than what they seemed.
When tragedy struck Quincy’s life, I was surprised by the turn her relationships took at that point, and not in a good way. I feel like she reacted selfishly, even though I understood the reaction if not the way she carried it out. So, in the end I felt sorry for both of these guys, because Quincy put them in a rough spot in their friendship AND she jerked their chains a bit. Having said that, I think her decision on how to handle her own indecision was a smart one, and it gave her the perspective she needed to make the right choice. I liked her a lot more seeing her from the guy’s point of view than from hers, and Fate was a more enjoyable read as well as a great way to fill in the gaps that Choices left. Overall, put together these make an enjoyable read and a sweet epilogue in book two left me with a smile on my face!
Quotes: Those mood swings, for me, are defined by her being the girl I know and love one moment and then becoming a complete stranger the next. I often wonder if the girl I grew up with is completely lost. I wonder if I’ll search for her the rest of my life. ~from Choices, Loc 454
It’s like he doesn’t even know what he wants, pulling me closer while simultaneously pushing me away. My head says he’s just a player, by body says that maybe I’d like to play. ~from Choices, Loc 675
My smile widens. I want to believe he thinks I’m worth fighting for. I haven’t ever been in a fight, but I sure wanted to rip that girl, Whitney’s, hair out. ~from Choices, Loc 2613
It's official. Little Miss Perfect broke my dick. ~from Fate, Loc 2344
I dont' know why I can't stay away from her. It would be so much easier to walk away and let her go, but I'm not the better man. I just can't do it. ~from Fate, Loc 3264
"But we always had to do things backwards, didn't we?" No, not backwards. Not even sideways. Fate just got it right. ~from Fate, Loc 3577

WOW! A BAD BOY BARING HIS SOUL AND HIS HEART IN THE HANDS OF FATE FOR LOVE!
Sydney Lane’s first novel in the Choices series, Choices, remind us the that the smallest decisions take courage to leave what we feel as a sense of security to embrace a power love in which fate does not let us control. Quincy Priest meets two young boys while attending the University of Tennessee, Delcan and Brody, whom are fraternity brothers. The boys may share the same fraternity, but are worlds apart in their personalities. Delcan is the boy next door, nice, sweet and the fraternity chaplain. Brody is the bad boy, party animal, no relationship person and a new girl every time. Finding herself drawn to both of the young men, Quincy makes a choice between the two changing everything.
"Quince, I want to be the person you run to. I want to be the one you trust when the darkness falls. I want to know your dreams, and I want to breathe the air you breathe. I want to be the one who makes you smile. I just want to be with you. Just trust me, Quince! Trust me enough to be with me. Let me love you every day for the rest of your life."
Fate is the second novel in the Choices series and is Brody’s POV. Brody is the sexy bad boy, who bares his soul and feelings for Quincy. You will discover a side of Brody not portrayed in the first novel, Choices, and how he battles through his own turmoil to find out what he really wants, brotherhood or love. Brody cannot deny the instant attraction he feels for Quincy, so can it be fate?
"It's kind of ironic that I've always believed in Fate, and it was Fate who kicked the shit out of me.
Fate will capture your attention immediately and will be unable to put the book down. Sydney also gives us a FANTASTIC epilogue at the end. She is also writing a third novel for the Choices series, Hope, and it will be Delcan’s story in hopes that he too will give fate a chance and hope for love.
“…our lives depend on fate. We deny it; we may even fight it, but no one can avoid it.”
I rate Sydney Lane’s second novel in the Choices series, Fate - 5 AMAZING STARS!
We met Quincy, Declan and Brody and their litlle ol' love triangle in Choices, and although I liked Brody in it, I didn't really understand some of his choices.
Fate is the same story written from Brody's POV, and I just have to say, I love Brody!
I am not usually a fan of the same book written in different POV's ~ if I wanted to read the same book I would re-read the original, and it takes away what I felt for the first book) but there are a few exceptions - and this is one.
I got a totally different feel for the characters with this alternate POV. Whereas before I scratched my head and thought "What the heck is Brody thinking?!?!" I got drawn into his mind set and it made all the difference.
We got behind the bad boy to the soul of the man. There is so much more to him when we get digging, and I just liked him more for it. Watching him struggle with is feelings, worry about his friendships and his "brothers" in his fraternity, how his choices are affecting those around him.
But it is the heart in the man, the emotion he shows that get you
"Quince, I want to be the person you run to. I want to be the one you trust when the darkness falls. I want to know your dreams, and I want to breath the air you breathe. I want to be the one who makes you smile. I just want to be with you. Just trust me, Quince! Trust me enough to be with me. Let me love you every day for the rest of your life."
Quincy, Quincy, Quincy. She annoyed me a little in Choices with her not so much indecisiveness, as she makes her decision early on, but with the way she handles the 'love triangle situation. However in Fate this was amplified for me 100 times! GRRRR!
I felt a lot more for Declan in Fate. In Choices I felt "really, you can't see what is happening right under your nose?", and though I still felt this way, I could understand it more. Perhaps it is because we get more of his interactions with his frat brothers, particularly Eric, Brody and Seth. You can practically hear his heart break as things come to light.
"you can't always follow a plan, sometimes fate steps in and does whatever she want to"
I felt that Fate was a well paced, well written retelling of Choices, and I was definitely not disappointed with it at all. Telling a story from both a female and male POV can be a hit and miss affair from what I have previously read, but I feel Ms Lane has done both characters justice.
I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I shall start by saying that both books are about the same people Quincy, Brody and Declan's told from different points of view.
In CHOICES, we meet Quincy who is the perfect girl at home compared to her sister who is a drug addict and suffering from bi-polar syndrome. I connected with her struggle to come out of her sister's shadow especially since her sister seems to have all the attention. So when the opportunity comes to escape to college, she grabs it.
Of course, at college things don't turn out as easily as she hopes. During a college party she meets some fraternity brothers, including Declan and Brody.
Quincy is attracted to both guys. Declan who is sweet and the perfect gentleman asks her out first. He is the reliable listener and trusted friend, the shoulder she needs to lean on considering the demons that haunt her.
Brody on the other hand is the playboy who doesn't do relationships. And of course he shouldn’t be making the moves on his friend and fraternity brother's girlfriend. But it doesn't stop the love triangle from developing or Quincy from being indecisive about whom to choose.
In Fate, we get the same story told from Brody's perspective. I have to say that despite his bad boy ways, I connected with him, perhaps better than I connected with Quincy. I totally understood his struggle to do the right thing by his friend at first and of course when he finally succumbed to the attraction between him and Quincy, his annoyance at her dragging indecision. She was eating her cake and having it. Of course when she does make a decision, it is devastating for both of them.
This was a guilty pleasure to read, taking me back to college days and some of my antics. I loved the author's writing style. This story is engaging, flows well and is so easy to read from either perspective. The characters are likeable and you learn to empathise with them even when you don't agree with their actions.
If you can only read one book, I'd suggest you read Fate. It is great delving in a male POV.
I will happily read this author again and gladly recommend both books to all lovers of new adult romance books.
4.5 Lovebites

Fate is officially my first 5 Star read of the year! Fate is book #2 in the Choices series, but can be read as a stand alone. Where Choices was told from Quincy’s POV, Fate is told from Brody’s POV. I’m typically not a fan of this type of book, but this was written perfectly. We really don’t get into the head of Brody in book one, so this was a chance to really understand his side of the story. He came across as your typical college guy who’s only out to “hook up” in book one, but now we actually see that he has depth and feelings. I really fell in love with him.
This is a New Adult novel that centers around Quincy, a sweet and shy college freshman, who attracts the attention of 2 fraternity brothers, Declan and Brody. Declan is the nice guy – he’s the fraternity Chaplain, designated driver, wants a committed relationship. Brody is the complete opposite – he likes to party and is more interested in a one night stand. When Quincy walks through the door, attending her first college Frat party, everything changes for Brody. There is instant connection. The sexual tension between the two is off the charts. The only problem is that Declan has fallen for her too. Let me be clear though, that this not a Love Triangle. You’ll have to read the books to see how this plays out ;)
I really love Sydney’s writing style. Her storytelling from the male POV was excellent. Not every author can do that. Brody came across as very alpha male and I love that in a book boyfriend. I’m not one to finish a book in a day, but I did with Fate. I just couldn’t put it down.
I’m thrilled to hear that Sydney is coming out with book #3, Hope, in April 2014 which is Declan’s story, and damn he really deserves it! This was an amazing second book by Sydney Lane and the Epilogue was PERFECT. You MUST one-click her books if you haven’t already. You won’t regret it!
***SPOILER ALERT – DO NOT read this review if you have not read Choices***
So, I thought I loved Choices and I did, but you know what??!?? I LOVED Fate even more. And it’s because I am a lover of the male POV. Then for it to be Brody’s POV!!!! Why did someone not warn me of this. I honestly didn’t know what Fate was about, but I did know that I was going to read it since I loved Choices so much. Yeah, I am silly. And see, I am telling the truth when I say I go in blind most of the time. I love the unknown and surprises.
“I’m afraid to ask you to choose, Quince.”
“I’m afraid you won’t choose me.”
Fate was much harder for me to read. I was a Brody fan in Choices. Not that I didn’t think Declan was an AMAZING guy but I could tell from the very beginning that he was just a friend. Brody was always the one that got her motor running. Plus, I always pick the bad boy ;) So, being in Brody’s head throughout this story, and knowing what all was coming for him made me CRAZY!! My emotions were all over the place. I even got teary eyed for him once.
“Why can’t I stop thinking about her? She’s just a girl. Like any other girl at the party tonight. But I already know she isn’t.”
Just like Choices, I thoroughly enjoyed every well written word of this story. I am not always a fan of reading the same story through a different POV but LOVED this one. Choices is an emotional book to read, but Fate was so much more emotional, I thought. And not just in a sad way. I was laughing out loud and smiling a big smile at the internal dialogue from Brody. Brody, deep down, is such an emotional guy and hearing what he was thinking made me enjoy him even more. And you can’t forget Seth , Eric, and Jenna. The story wouldn’t be good without great secondary characters. I really hope to enjoy all their stories also. But, of course, most importantly, I need to see Declan get his HEA :)
This story is a very good addition to this series and I highly recommend it to anyone who read Choices and loved Brody!!
