Entertaining fantasy listening 🎶🔰

This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account

They are attempting to get back to their home port after escaping from pirates. It is quite an adventure.

I would recommend this series and various authors to readers of fantasy world 🌎adventure thriller novels 👍🔰 2025 😕😤

Quite possibly the best so far from the boys of Critical Failures. I really did try to read the opening scene to my wife, but I could not due to boughts of uncontrollable infantile laughter. I give this story 5 stars plus one bonus star for each time the word "wang" was used during the telling.

Here we have another Caverns and Creatures Mini-Adventure, and what an adventure this is. Mixing his quirky, obnoxious, and yet oh-so-lovable quartet of adventurers up with too-expensive booze, a pirate ship and moody merfolk, Robert Bevan has again succeeded in creating a comic fantasy gem that will be loved by gamers, fantasy geeks, and fans of old school table top role playing.

Fans of Critical Failures and Robert's other Caverns and Creatures mini adventures are in for a treat here. I would, however, strongly suggest new readers start with Critical Failures so that the context of this (and the other mini-adventures) will fully make sense.

Robert Bevan has become, and continues to be, a day one "auto-buy" author for me, and Shipfaced only continues to solidify this.

Note: This story contains profanity, a naked half orc with a scaly penis, and some suggestive themes. You have been warned. :p

So long as that won't deter you, sample, download and enjoy. This is some truly fun stuff. :)

'Shipfaced' is the latest mini-adventure featuring the 'Critical Failures' characters and this time there's pirates!

I think this might be the best mini-adventure yet. As usual I was thoroughly amused from start to finish, most notably when the pirates got a bit rapey and then when the strange merfolk showed up. There are some brilliantly weird moments in there and I'm likely to give it another read while I wait for the next novel to come out.

The sense of humour is immature and the language profane - it's light entertainment and a lot of fun. There are some properly laugh out loud lines, so be warned if you're reading it someplace public!

If you're unfamiliar with this series I'd suggest starting with the novel 'Critical Failures'. The short stories just make a bit more sense with the background there first. Highly recommended fantasy comedy.

Quirky, edgy and hilarious, Bevan blends crisp dialogue and his fruitful (fruity?) imagination to bring to life a fantasy adventure that moves briskly and entertainingly to its conclusion.

Bevan's writing is reminiscent of Kurt Vonnegut, but with a few more "F" bombs. Excellent dialogue and character interaction. An irreverent masterpiece that is part of a series that will certainly become a camp classic in the genre. Robert Bevan is on my "Buy" list.

Another quick read from the Caverns and Creatures world, this one was much more fleshed out than cave of the kobolds. I really enjoy this series, and look forward to more from Bevan.

Kindle Unlimited, the writer definitely isn't 'right' but he is on ku, a few binge readings were in my future.

Space Puppies
Flying Toasters - The DeadPixel Tales {one of collection of writers, seems to be permafree}

Not sure what current 4 pack price is, would need to check with amazon site, was 99 but been aw while. The 4 books listed above titled separately under the set. The smaller collections are listed on top of which this one is 1st of the first set as 6, but did list them in order AND with the individual stories in each one of those since covering the mini collections here. I read the 4 pack, then the collections, in order, not totally sure it would matter with this genre, but just in case did matter with the character development. Writer does list and say if you have the d6 (Caverns and Creatures collection 1) as collection would not need to reread this as it is the same Orcs Bears and Assholes listed in the mini set, and Shipfaced is the 4th story of the 1st collection, which title actually starts with a 6, so yeah you have to keep up.

If your looking for some humor in your day then this book is for you. There were many points though out the book that had me laughing out loud and shaking my head. Be warned though if you have a delicate constitution and are easily offended by language then maybe you better steer clear.

You know that feeling when you walk up to a group of people having a discussion and you listen to it but because you came in in the middle of the discussion your of kilter? Well that is how I felt with this book at the beginning. The book is obvious a continuation of a story line and picks up where the previous book left off, seemingly in the middle of a conversation.

That may seem off putting but I assure you it wasn't. The book can stand on it's own because of the nature of the story. It is a comedy, not to be taken seriously in any way and in that context as an author you can get away with a lot and as a reader we tend to give a lot where other story lines would be given harsh criticism.

The author's gutter humor, border line offensive tweets are what made me buy the book (what's that say about me?). I laughed at just about everyone one of them and finally succumbed to the marketing ploy. I'm not disappointed at all. I really only wish it would have been longer. That's what she said!

Sorry couldn't resist and seemed appropriate for this book.

If you like to laugh and are not easily offended pick this book up and enjoy it for the mindless entertainment it is.

Bevan is a man's man author. He is ribald, unfiltered and writing an instructional thesis on the f-word in "Shipfaced." His work for the most part isn't offensive but skates the politically correct lines. That said, underneath the frat boy humor is a subtext of social commentary. Bevan offers a message of working together for a common goal. I could be completely off base but felt a bit of social commentary in the narrative.

The plot is fairly straightforward. The quartet (and the raven familiar) have to evade the lascivious tendencies of the pirates and effect an escape from their predicament. The twists and turns are creative in a "yo bro" kind of way that is frequently so stupid one cannot help but laugh out loud.

"Shipfaced" is part of the Caverns and Creatures series. My only complaint about the novella is that very little of the lore is explained. Clearly the quartet came from somewhere else. I'm sure their back story is explained in an earlier novella and, if not, there is much that can be surmised from what is told but it would have been nice to have had more laid out.

If you're looking for a wacky and silly read that is written with intelligence but not filter, pick this one up.

This was a decent and fast read. It made me cringe a few times. It is definitely not for the squeamish or easily offended by profanity or adult content. I believe that I will read more of Bevan's writings.
