Economy of Permanence

This book is a must read for any one who is seriously concerned with nonviolence and truth. This book tells us the alternative to capitalism and socialism and gives a vivid description of how we need to align ourselves with the nature and its way of working so that humans can use their freewill for the benefit of all rather than to be detrimental to him and to the humanity as well. Though a simple book but nonetheless not an easy read as we need to really ponder and think along with the author to really understand his point of view, though you may not agree everytime. But considering the fact that it has been written 50 years ago, the reader will have no problem to relate with the book as the issues dealt in the book are as dire and serious now as it had been half a century earlier. Its a phenomenal book. But sad to see that we don't really learn anything from the history. This book is highly recommended.

This book, written partly between the two world wars and partly towards the end of the second, when freedom was on the horizon, outlines how India ought to have developed.
Many issues he touches, many fallacies of the modern way he sees, many solutions to problems that he suggests are still equally valid today.
While i feel that we have come to a point of no return with respect to a lot of things he talks about, it is necessary to understand that these problems that we see today had been foreseen long ago and solutions in form of alternate way of life given. Now it is up to us to reconcile the two and find a less harmful way of life for us and future. This is ofcourse if you believe in sustainability and permanence and non-violence.

Torchbearer of Gandhian Economic thought

JC kumarappa questions the premise of current economic theories and sets on an inquiry of the ways of Nature and its balance. He questions the fundamental unit of measuring activity with currency alone and implicates the hazards of mindless consumerism. An extension of Gandhian values of "simple living and high thinking ", the book is a must read for thinkers of all kind.
