The light writing style that Evans uses allows you to just sit back and enjoy the story while she takes you on a wild ride through the eyes of two individuals who have had their fair share of relationship problems. She seamlessly combines the normal with the not so normal into a story that kept me captivated throughout. Evans works suspense and comedic relief together nicely in order to create a story that you won’t be able to put down.

I definitely got a kick out of the main characters in this novel. They were simultaneously very real and out of this world. They were also quite easy to identify with, making it easy and enjoyable to immerse yourself in the story. There were definitely times when I wanted to throw a pillow at one of the characters and ask them what in the world they were thinking, only to realise I probably would have done the exact same thing. It added a very personal aspect to the story. Character development in the supporting cast wasn’t extremely thorough; however, being that they played quite minor roles in the novel further development would have been detrimental to the story as a whole.

This novel was definitely a quick and captivating read. Evans takes you through a journey that has you on the edge of your seat with suspense, laughing at the characters and their relationship issues, and wondering what you’d do if the one person you loved didn’t believe you or believe in you, regardless of how unbelievable the situation. Would you be able to forgive and forget?

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

“Ten minutes in and you already got the new lifeguard’s number.”

“Don’t be silly, I got it in three. New record.” -Jenna & Shana

She wanted to leave the past behind but the past wouldn't let her.

All Jenna wanted was to start anew but her new life is interrupted by visions of Nathaniel dying in a fire.

Jenna and Nathaniel have loved each other forever.

But an unfortunate accident pulled them apart.Jenna, has always been special but Nathaniel refused to believe her until Jenna saves him from a series of murder attacks! Many things may have changed but the love they always shared it's still there...
The danger is still there, though.Someone is trying to kill Nathaniel. Will love save them or kill them both???

It's the first book I read by Jessica F.F. Evans.I really liked the plot and how things unraveled. What I didn't like was how immature Jenna and Nathaniel seemed at some point. But that didn't bother me much!

Furthermore, I liked Shana, Jenna's bff who had the same ability as Jenna.I really really liked her!I hope Jessica writes a book about her (or just a novella).

Goodness! For a short novel, this one sparked my interest and kept it throughout the story. Flames has a few shortcomings, but overall, the plot was interesting, the story was paced well, and I genuinely liked the characters.

Jenna is blessed, or cursed in her opinion, with a psychic gift. Living in a small town, being different didn't make for easy friendships. But she had her best friend and her boyfriend. Her life was pleasant. However, she loses her best friend and her boyfriend lets her down, so she leaves for college and a new life. She's been successful these last seven years. She has a thriving business and a best friend with her own psychic gift.

I liked that Jenna shows strength and resilience after the adversity she faced growing up and especially right after graduation. She's made a life for herself and is relatively happy. I understood her hurt over the actions of her boyfriend, Nathaniel. It revealed a lot about her buried feelings that she went running home as soon as it was clear Nathaniel was in danger.

Nathaniel is one hard-headed guy. He's moved on and built a life for himself and he's happy. But he's never settled down. He's been through a lot and goes through a lot over the course of the story, but is steadfast in his decisions. When Jenna arrives back in town, his actions and reactions said a lot about the feelings he's been carrying around for seven years. I understood his reluctance to believe what was right in front of him, but was glad when he finally embraced the truth.

I enjoyed the psychic element of Flames. It added to the suspense since knowing something is going to happen doesn't mean it can be changed. I also liked the supporting characters of Shana and David. We don't see them often but they play important roles and made an impact on the story.

There were a few editing issues in Flames. However, I felt that the story was strong enough that I was able to overlook them most of the time. Also, the actions of Jenna and Nathaniel irritated me at one point. It seemed immature - Jenna evens comments on the situation becoming childish - and didn't mesh with the strength I felt both characters projected.

Overall, Flames was a quick and suspenseful read. I liked the characters and felt engaged in their story. I will definitely read Ms. Evans again.

Flames should definitely be on your to-read list. This fast paced adventure will be a story that you just can't put down. Evans's strength comes in her character development and ability to keep the plot pushing forward.

Evans develops intriguing and relate able characters. Just realistic and identifiable enough, with a dash of the supernatural. I love Jenna (the main character) she is down-to-earth and instantly likeable. She's the girl that everybody wants to be friends with. But she's also special. She's interesting with her gifts, and she keeps the reader compelled with her sense of wit, charm, and humor.

Nathaniel (the leading man) is a hunky dreamboat of course, but isn't some kind of unattainable "perfect man character" that many novels create. He has flaws, so does Jenna. But the way they develop, grow, and change is something truly masterfully written.

The plot does move at a a fairly break net pace, but as an avid reader this is something I adore. There is nothing worse than picking up a novel and holding your eyes open for a a couple days, while you drag yourself through the first few chapters. From paragraph two of this book, you'll be hooked. It's a skills that few writers posses, and that Evans has clearly mastered.

I don't really have much criticism for this book but if I had to offer anything I would note that it was pretty narrowly focused on the two main characters. I think there were some missed opportunities, but don't feel that the lack of supporting setting detracted from the story at all.

Overall, I would put it as a must read. This is the kind of book you'll devour in a day, and be left wanting more.
