ETA: NOW LIVE!!!

If you are in need of a dragon fix - you NEED this book!!

If another certain other dragon book didn't live up to the hype - READ THIS ONE!!

Full review below:

Where do I even start?!

First off, thank you for Amber for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. She knows I will always tell it like it is (and my many messages to her while reading are prime examples).

Secondly - this book was written phenomenally. If you are a fantasy reader, you will love how this entire story plays out. If you are a romantic fantasy reader, prepare yourself for the an amazing slow burn that will have you breathing fire in the end.

The blurb gives you all need to know about the story itself before jumping into it. If you have read my many reviews before, you will know that I very rarely give you a recap or truly discuss any on-goings of the book. Because if I did - then what's the point in reading the book when I told you what happens!?

Amber does a superb job of developing an intricate world; you can easily picture the landscapes and understand the different species that inhabit each area and how they all came to be and where they are all now and why. I love how she's able to just bring her words to life in such an easy way.

I love that the plot moves at a perfect pace as things unravel and more twists are added in. Amber weaves a very intricate story line with the right amount of twists and turns to keep things interesting and mysterious but also moves the story along. There was even a few "oh shit" moments for me that I had to message her about immediately because I just could not believe what I read.

Overall, An Echo of Fire is an extraordinary story and the perfect start to this new series. Amber delivers one of her best books-to-date and that is saying a lot considering my love for her Caged series is a Top 3 all-time for me (in all genres).

It is definitely a slow-burn romance but one that you thoroughly enjoy watching as the tension builds between Ariel and Hemming. I love that we get to understand each of them and watch them come into their own as the story progresses. Something I had not anticipated was the emotions (read it to know what I am talking about) but it was Amber's writing that just made it all the more easier for me to feel everything.

You definitely do not want to miss out on this incredible fantasy read.

I received An Echo of Fire in return for an honest review from the Author as part of the tour hosted by Book Of Matches Media.

Ariel has never fit in with her fathers people but at least she had a best friend by her side until the day he attempts to kill her. Forcing her father to flee with her into the night taking her to his ally to keep her safe. Everything changes when four years later she receives word that it's not safe and she's forced to return to the hostile home she knew.

I love Ariel she's an this stubborn bad-ass character who is willing to risk it all for those she loves. I also loved Hemming he's just a perfect complement to Ariel because over the last four years he's turned into a formidable fighter. They have this sweet sizzling chemistry that just works so well that just grows as they set out on the mission at hand.

I really enjoyed the concept for the different races they all are unique and bring something different to the story. The author did a beautiful job creating captivating characters that are easy to connect with and a story that just draws the reader in. I ended up devouring An Echo of Fire in just one afternoon as I had to know what would happen next to Ariel and Hemming.

This isn't my first book by the author so I had some high expectations for the story and it exceeded my expectations. I loved the story it's beautifully done, the world building is amazing and the characters are some of my favorites. the author did a fantastic job telling a captivating story. I loved everything about An Echo of Fire it's quickly become one of my favorite reads of 2023. I can't wait for the next installment so we can continue Ariels story. I highly recommend if you love the Romantasy genre this is a must.

This book had so much potential. It was not an enemies to lovers at all in my opinion. I feel like it was written poorly and too fast paced, there was no depth to the characters and the relationships. I just wasted my money on this book because it looked like it had such a good hype.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend to people who are expecting enemies to lovers or in depth characters and world.

Ariel has received a letter to return home to Daglaar to her father, the General, because where she has been staying is no longer safe. Ariel leaves immediately but knows she is just leaving one unsafe location for another. While growing up as the General’s daughter, the Nychterides still did not trust Ariel because she was a half breed.

When she returns to Daglaar, she is greeted with a knife to her throat. Hemming, her old best friend who tried to kill her four years ago, is not happy to see her back. Turns out not much had changed in the four years she had been gone.

When the truth comes out that the letter was a fake, she must return back to safety. Her father leaves separately to meet about the said letter, and Ariel leaves with one of his men. When she is attacked, it turns out the only person she can maybe trust is Hemming.

After the attack she realizes she must save her father from also walking into a trap, and together her and Hemming must make the journey through the magical wastelands and try to stay alive.

I adored this novel. It had everything I needed, action, slow burn, forced proximity, touch her and you die, dragons and so much more. I was fully engaged in every part and will re-read before book 2 comes out! Make sure you order this novel ASAP so we can talk about it!!!!

I wanted to like this so bad— a badass dragon female as the main character, a long-time best friend turned lover, hidden secrets, running for their lives. All should have made for a decent book. However, there were so many moments where Ariel just turned into a sobbing mess which didn’t seem to fit the hard warrior type of character she was implied to be. Then at the beginning of the book, Hemming was an enemy who couldn’t seem to stand her in the first couple chapters we got from him and then all of a sudden we’re reading how much he loves her and has always loved her. The decision making on Ariel’s part also just seems spastic, unrealistic, and forced. Can’t seem to make myself pick up the second to see if it gets any better. Oh well.

“how is she supposed to trust the man that once betrayed her” or something like that in the blurb
not even halfway in and she trusts him more than i trust the sun to rise in the morning

this is not slow burn.

and how is it that she conveniently flew home straight in the night while fleeing but is now spending nights going back?🧍‍♀️
maybe i didn’t read that part well..

*Review may contain slight spoilers, but I try to keep things as vague as possible*.

I absolutely loved this journey. This was a fast-paced romantic fantasy adventure packed full of friends-to-enemies-to-lovers with an added bonus of fae-shifters, and he-falls-first all baked into a beautiful pie including intense action-packed plot.

I was immediately intrigued by the brutality of the different lands, as well as within the specific lands themselves. It's not often you start a book where nobody has any trust for one another, and yet they remain wholeheartedly loyal to their people. This added a really intense dynamic to the book throughout the entire plot.

I really enjoyed that Ariel and Hemming's journey was non-stop action. Their quest took us from one crazy endeavor to another, and I found the creatures they encountered and fought to be really creative. The Dreamcatcher scene gave me big Shelob vibes from Lord of the Rings, and that whole scene gave me chills. The lake serpent, likewise, was such an intense scene and I found myself holding my breath countless times for Ariel and Hemming's well-being.

I loved Ariel and Hemming's relationship from the very beginning, when they were children. I knew Hemming would have me in a chokehold, but my goodness that doesn't really do him justice, because I found myself swooning over him page after pager after page. I loved his pure devotion to Ariel, no matter the cost. Their romance is unbelievably heart wrenching, and I can't wait to see where it goes as they take on new obstacles.

I also loved that I never really knew who to trust. I ended up loving Shafer, but I swear I still don't know if I can trust him. He threw a lot of wrenches into the plot for me, and I thought he added a really fun dynamic to Ariel and Hemming's relationship. I just hope I haven't misplaced my sort-of-trust in him.

Overall, I thought this was an intense and thrilling first book in a series. I can't wait to continue. The two reveals at the end of the book shook me up, and I'm seriously excited to see where Ariel and Hemming's journey is going to take them in book two.

Thank you to the author and Book of Matches Media for my gifted copy in return for an honest review. My opinions are my own.

The above is my version of a slow cap because this book was PHENOMENAL! Do yourself a favor, and go get this book right now! This was one of the easiest 5 star ratings I’ve given this year. I’ve officially read 140 books in 2023 so far, and this is securely in the top 5🎉

What a story! There was not a single dull moment in this book. The storytelling was gripping, and I was turning pages faster than my poor generation 7 kindle could handle.

An Echo of Fire follows Ariel who is half Nychterides (aka bats of stone or gargoyles) and Minyades (aka dragons of fire or drakos). She is one fierce FMC. I feel like every book this year is killing it with the strong and independent main characters, but Ariel is it! She is a badass fire breathing scale covered dragon woman (this was an actual note I wrote down while reading btw). She has never quite fit in and has always endured stares, whispers, and hate her whole life for being a mixed breed. However, she freaking dominates throughout the book, battling through a forest of mazes, deadly creatures, and betrayals from her own people (although they would disagree!)

Hemming is just as fierce, but also so damn protective. He is quite literally obsessed with Ariel and has been forever. He stays with her through every trial and has always had her best interest at heart even if it meant dooming himself to maltreatment. Even though he’s protective, overall, he lets Ariel do her thing and doesn’t hold her back from the greatness she showed on many occasions.

I’m also obsessed with this world! I love the dynamics within the unique species and the political intrigue. We get to see dragons, bat-like creatures, and fae, but with such an interesting twist on their characteristics and how they’re portrayed. There is also a ton of action and adventure and multiple secrets, twists, and reveals you won’t see coming. This book is the perfect fantasy book for any reader!

Just some advice when reading this book, DO NOT read the last 20% while sitting at an airport waiting for a flight surrounded by total strangers who are silently judging you for gasping out loud and crying. Apologies to anyone flying out of DC today to Chicago!! I hope you enjoyed the show though👍🏻

Tropes:
🔥Friends to enemies to lovers
🔥Slow burn
🔥He falls first
🔥Forced proximity
Touch her and die
🔥Epic journey
🔥Forced alliance
🔥Political intrigue
🔥Dual POV

TL;DR- This book is fire🔥 (pun definitely intended)

“𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘪𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸 ?” 𝘐 𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘥. “𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘪𝘵?”

This is a quick, action-packed fantasy filled with betrayal, heartbreak, and lots of magical creatures. There are shifters, dragon hybrids, fae, and beasts.

There was so much action. Ariel and Hemming faced constant roadblocks as they raced to save Ariel’s father. It was almost comical how at every turn there was another challenge for them to face.

For me - the book could have used more in terms of world building and background. I did not feel as connected to the characters as I usually do in fantasy books, and it made the story a little less believable for me. Since there was so much packed into a relatively short book, the plot jumped around quite a bit and I lost sight of the purpose a handful of times.

I enjoy the writing style a lot, and think that there’s quite a bit of potential if this is going to be a series. I laughed, it was a quick read, it just was a little more surface level than I was expecting from a fantasy romance.

If you enjoy fantasy books where you don’t get lost in world building and slow burn plot- definitely give this one a read!

Thank you for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This was such a fun, unique read!
The different fantasy species in this were so cool, and the way the politics play out is exciting and intriguing. Ariel is part dragon, part Gargoyle, which makes her an outcast at best and an enemy at worst in her fathers land. There is danger around every turn, but also an amazing found family, tension filled banter, and lots of mysteries to uncover.

The pacing in this is awesome, it allows for lots of action and surprising reveals, but also time to sit with the characters and get to know their personalities and their relationships with each-other. I really adored watching Ariel & Hemming find their friendship again after so much hurt, and also following it blooming into more.

I did find myself wishing we had learned more about the conflict between the Gargoyles and the Dragons, as well as the alliance between Ariel’s fathers people and the Fae. However, I definitely feel like we are well set up do dive further into this part of the story in book 2, and I can’t wait for it!

All in all, I definitely recommend this book to fans of fast paced romantasy, dragons, found family and friends to enemies to lovers. Some other tropes you can expect are:
🐉slow burn
🐉he falls first
🐉forced proximity
🐉epic journey
🐉forced alliance

Thank you to the author and Book of Matches Media for the eArc copy of this!

Welcome to Daglaar, Little Dragon...

An Echo of Fire is the first book in the ya/na fantasy romance series called Fireheart. This first installment is a fast paced fantasy adventure where our main character teams up with her childhood friend turned enemy to try and rescue her father. It features an epic quest style adventure filled with danger, action and a slow burn romance.

I enjoyed An Echo of Fire. There is a lot packed into this story. We meet Ariel, who is the generals daughter, but she has always kind of been an outsider because there are some tensions between the different dragon clans, and Ariel is half of two different dragon breeds. When the clan starts to turn on Ariel, she is sent away to live with a friend of her father's and at the start of the story she returns because she received a note from her father telling her to come home. Only the note wasn't from him, and her arrival set s off a series of events that leads to her father being in real danger. So Ariel and Hemming set out to try and find him they are met with all kinds of obstacles, secrets and hurdles for them to overcome.

An Echo of Fire is great for readers who are looking for a fast paced, quick read and who like quest style adventures. Though I found the beginning of the story to be a little bit jarring and confusing, I did eventually find my bearings. The book felt a little short for my preference and things happened a little to quickly for me to completely fall in love, but overall, I enjoyed this book.

This book has dragons guys. Did I mention the MC is a dragon who has scales and breathes fire? And that he falls first for her?

Above all, this is a story of second chances and friendship that withstands all challenges.

The romance in this is so swoon worthy. It had me feeling all the warm and fuzzies. I loved following Ariel and Hemming’s journey from childhood and seeing their friendship develop grow over time.

This was such a fun, unique book with lots of adventure and I can’t wait for the sequel.

Thank you so much @allthingsnatusch and @bookofmatchesmedia for allowing me to take part in this incredible book tour!

A quick, mostly enjoyable read. The world has so much potential but just wasn’t fleshed out enough to get me super excited. Though it ended well enough with its little surprises that I want to know how it all shakes out and will read the second book.

I’m a huge fan of Amber’s books, so my expectations for AN ECHO OF FIRE were admittedly high. As I expected, this book did not disappoint. The world-building was phenomenal, the different races were so interesting, and the characters were rich and dimensional. ⁣

I absolutely adored Ariel, she was such an endearing character that has been through so much. She is strong and resilient, but she also possesses a vulnerability that makes her so relatable. I loved her relationship with Hemming and how well they worked together. There’s also a slow-burn romance happening, which was definitely the cherry on top. ⁣

There were so many fantastic tropes in this book that hit so many high notes for me. A few of the highlights were:⁣

➽ Forced proximity ⁣
➽ Touch her and 💀⁣
➽ Slow-burn romance ⁣
➽ He falls first⁣
➽ Action aplenty! The pacing was incredible with so many action scenes that there was never a dull moment ⁣
➽ An engaging plot ⁣
➽ Dragons!⁣

Bottom line — pick this one up and thank me later. This one gets all the stars, and I’ll be no-so-patiently waiting for the next one. ⁣

It's my first shifter book I think, I wanted it because I saw ✨dragons✨, and I was surprised when they were actual people being dragons. I didn't know what to think at first, and then I got into the story little by little and just kept going ! It's dual POV, which usually isn't what I like the most, but the 2nd POV was shorter and usually less frequent, so it ended up working really well for the story. I'm very curious to see where the story goes and how it unfolds, because the revelations we got throughout the book had me on the edge of my seat ! I recommend it if you want secrets, betrayal and a political plot.

I was given this book as an ARC by the author and the following is my honest review.

I enjoyed this story. I read it so fast that I needed a minute to gather some of my thoughts but here they are. 3.5 starsish

I love all things dragon (in this book a people called Minyades), and the addition of the fae (Neráides) and gargoyles (Nychterídes) was really fun. The prejudices among each kind created a lot of politically-infused intrigue that kept things interesting.

The prologue and the characters are similar to The Serpent & the Wings of Night; Ariel is half Minyade, half Nychteríde and hated fiercely by the Nychterídes because of it. Showing up on their doorstep as a child after her home is destroyed, Ariel finds solace in the only boy who will stand up for her, Hemming. Half Nychteríde himself (and half Neráide), Ariel and Hemming bond as they grow up as outcasts together. Until he tries to kill her in front of all the Nychterídes.

The story was interesting but I did think the quest through the Black Forest on the way to finding Ariel’s father was a little confusing and lasted a little long. While it was really fun, I did at one point think, “surely he has to be dead by now.”

The seer was creepy as heck and I appreciated the unique element they brought to the story and how that all played out.

Overall, I had a good time. After the bombshell of the second half of the book, I’m interested to see what happens to our two main characters moving forward.

I recently read an ARC of An Echo of Fire by @allthingsnatusch & I absolutely loved it! It is a slow burn enemies to lovers with danger at every turn! I literally couldn’t put it down & read it in one sitting! This has everything you could ever want in a fantasy book & this is only the beginning! I can’t wait to see what happens next! I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven’t!

Besides them being dragons everything is quite cliché. Badass heroine with „I’m not like other girls“-vibes. Big broody guy, who pines after her for no reason? It’s not even enemies to lovers, because they were childhood friends, a little bit estranged. Everything is very surface level. The writing mediocre, the pacing fast - small mercies here. I can’t recommend it.

I don't want your control, Hemming. I want you- all of you. Whatever that entails

After her mother's death, Ariel's father, the general of the Nychterides brings her to Daglaar. Growing up in fear of being killed by her fellow warriors for being part dragon, she finds a kindred spirit in Hemming, half Fae, he knows first hand the danger of being an outsider in such a close-knit and prejudice community. Hemming and Ariel find a safe space in each other. However, when she's betrayed, and almost killed, by her best friend and fierce childhood protector, her father sends her to the land of the Fae, a safer but more isolated place. Four years later, Ariel receives a letter from her father, urging her to return, fleeing back to Daglaar, Ariel finds her father confused at her return, and soon uncovers that a deeper and more insidious plot is unravelling with her father's ranks. Once again, she finds herself fleeing from dangers, determined to save and protect her father, and only Hemming to turn to, they're both soon forced into a shaky and fragile alliance, that may break them both.

Ariel has spent her life just trying to survive, being half dragon and half Nychterides, she stands out amongst the pure bred Nychterides, who vehemently despise outsiders. In spite of all the threats and danger she faces, she continuous to be resolute, fierce and powerful. Her witty banter is absolutely hilarious, I would burn the world down for her, Ariel is such a power-house, clever, resourceful and never shies away from a fight, even if the odds are stacked against her. A stabby, fire-wielding baddy, whose basically an 11/10.

Hemming... phew. Hemming is dreamy as fuck. He's broody, tortured, and carries the pain and anguish he's endured with him, hardening his heart with every jibe or threat targeted towards him. He's dark, sexy, tenacious, and driven by his determination to enact vengeance upon the father who abandoned him and his mother.
I will break every rule for her. Always

The ANGST I am floored, get ready to swoon and kick your legs in the air with this downright seductive slow-burn romantasy. I am always an ambassador for enemies-to-lovers, especially slow-burn, usually I find it feels a little forced and unauthentic, I know you all know what I mean, a lot of the time the enemies become lovers wayyy to quickly (like within the first 50%... what can I say, I enjoy being tortured) HOWEVER the enemies-to-lovers in this book...

The almosts are tantalising and torturous which is just how I like it, to go up in flames.

I absolutely DEVOURED this book, it's nothing short of addicting. Fast-paced, with beautiful and immersive world-building, and unique and rich lore. 'An Echo of Fire' will immediately transport you, get ready to completely lose yourself into this compelling and enchanting world. It'll take you on an epic journey, full of plot twists and thrilling action. When I tell you I didn't want to stop reading for anything, I got mad whenever I was expected to do adulting. The characters are some of my ultimate favourites, they are so palpable, real and so gorgeously complex and layered. Overflowing with cunning Fae, deep betrayals, political intrigue, tense stakes and delectably deadly creatures. My one only niggle is that I would've liked a bit more of a tense and gritty battle, it felt like it was leading up to this really insane and catastrophically epic battle, but it fell a little short for me in that respect. Nonetheless, this was a story that has stayed with me ever since I've finished reading it, and the ending gets you ready to delve into whatever adventures and danger Ariel and Hemming are about to fall into in the next book. Definitely pick this one up, it's insanely good!

When Ariel was four, there was a battle at her home which caused her mother to perish. She found her father and he took her away to Nychteride where she grew up and was trained like a warrior like the others. Now older, she has been living in the Midlands for the past four years with the fae lord Kaplyn when she receives a missive from her father that Kaplyn cannot be trusted. She escapes and goes back home to a place she is clearly not wanted. One evening, she finds some Minyade prisoners, people from her mother’s home who had come to find her and were captured instead. She wants to know why, but her father makes her leave in the morning to go back to the Midlands. On the way she’s attacked by a few warriors who want her dead, suddenly rescued by Hemming, her childhood friend turned enemy, and makes a deal with Hemming to help her save her father and in return she’ll help Hemming find his father to exact his revenge on him.

There’s like so much more that occurs in this book, and that brief summary did not do it justice 😂 I really enjoyed this book! I loved this story about a girl who doesn’t seem to fit anywhere, who has a father she loves fiercely and a boy who she grew up with that she can’t figure out and how she learns her place in this world and who she really is.

Ariel is a fierce character who will show vulnerability when those she loves are hurt and is very loyal and will do anything for them. Ariel seemed to become more and more fierce as the story progressed and really developed a tougher skin. I loved the banter between her and Hemming and Shayfer. There’s a lot of banter actually 😂 I loved the push and pull between her and Hemming, in fact, it drove me nuts because every time they had a moment, THEY WERE INTERRUPTED. It was so frustrating! But wonderful!

And speaking of, I adored the romance! I loved the friends to enemies to sort of friends to not sure what we are to lovers, it was so well done and so angsty and such a sloooow burn! I enjoyed every moment of it!

Hemming was such a dark horse for a bit there and I do love a broody male character, and he definitely had that going for him!

There are a few other key characters like Kaplyn, Kade(Ariel’s father),and Shayfer. And let’s be real, Shayfer was the best! He didn’t have as big of a role in this book until toward the end, but oh my goodness did I fall in love with him! So sassy and flirty, I loved it!

There are quite a few twists, secrets and betrayal that occur throughout. I figured out what was going on pretty early on and figured out the twists pretty quickly, but I enjoyed the way everything played out.

The ending was very fast-paced and quick and I really enjoyed it! I also love the abrupt end and look forward to seeing what happens next!

A couple reasons I only gave this 4 stars is because I think it’s a bit odd that these people hate this girl so much. Maybe she’s had special treatment because her father is their leader, but I think it is really strange that they all hate her so much, and want her dead. Why waste so much time on this one person? I mean we learn things later, but I still found it odd to hate that one person for so many years.

There’s also a lot of little things that detail is missed or askew a bit. Like when Ariel mentions Fireheart and Hemmy makes it sound like he doesn’t know what that is, and yet mentions it later like he does know(and I would think he would know what it is based on the explanation Ariel gave about it). And then just the world building could have been expounded on more. I felt like I was dropped into a world I should know about already and I didn’t, and I can tell there’s quite the world here! And I hope the next book maybe explains more about the world and different species.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! And I just want more Shayfer 😂 I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

The blurb of this book does a really good job of setting up the story and instantly captured my interest but honestly the story really evolves so much more from those event and I just could not stop reading!!

The world was created in such detail, and yeah there were some familiar elements but the author was able to just add so much more to it! I am very excited for the next book so we can explore more of the world! Featuring three species of creatures, dragons (Minyades), fae (Neráides) and gargoyles (Nychterídes) this book really had it all! I loved how each species had their own distinct features and villages the prejudice between the races was also written really well! The magical forest between the two villages was also a great addition to the story and I loved learning about all the dark creatures that roamed around in it.

The characters were just amazing! It is a dual POV between a half blooded Minyade and Nychteride Ariel, who is the daughter of the Nychteride general and Hemming a half-blooded Nychteride and Neraide. Their friendship was so amazing and I love the slow-burn, tension and banter as the friendship slowly turned into more! The characters individually were also amazing and I loved their personalities! Also Hemming was just so protective which made it all the better!

The plot was fast-paced and i was never bored! It started off normally just still with enough mystery and action to keep you interested, until everything was revealed and I just could not put the book down!

I actually don't really have any negatives because I enjoyed the story so much! I highly highly recommend this book to people who love:
✨ Dragons
✨ Fae
✨ Shape-shifters
✨ forced proximity
✨ slowburn friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance
✨ fast-paced plot full of action
✨ mysterious dark forest full of creatures
✨ Hidden secrets weaved throughout the story

An Echo of Fire is the first book in a series following Ariel and Hemming. Ariel is the daughter of the General of the Nychterides, a land that only trusts pure blood. Ariel has her mother’s dragon heritage to set her up as a target and when four years ago her best friend tried to kill her, Ariel is forced to escape and take shelter in the fae land under the protection of the fae lord. Now she returns when she receives a cryptic message from her father but she soon realizes she can’t trust anyone.

An Echo of Fire is a fast-paced fantasy romance set in a world that has warriors, shifters, dragons, and fae with different kinds of abilities on the brink of a war.

My favorite character is Hemming. Ariel’s best friend turned enemy, he is hiding his secrets and searching for his answers. And all he wants to do is protect Ariel even if the cost is her hate.
The romance has quite a slow burn with a tinge of miscommunication, which I think can’t be avoided from friends to lovers.

I liked how the author has created certain mystery around all the characters and you are not sure who can be trusted.
My biggest issue with the book that brought the rating below 4 was Aerial in the first half and her father, the general. Ariel was whining about being in a “gilded cage” in a castle where she was loved, treated well, and trained like a warrior. Not allowed to go home for your safety until you are old enough to defend yourself isn’t necessarily a cage. So it annoyed me a little.

Her father on the other hand didn’t sit right with me at all. He was abusive, period. He exploited his position and power to harass people in the name of protecting his daughter. He kept threatening Hemming for no reason, shredded his wings as a punishment because he didn’t want to look weak, and let him go through all the pain even though he told him the truth of what happened. He also beat up another character because Ariel didn’t listen to him and went out for the hunt either way. Not to forget, he flung Ariel in anger. What made it worse was Ariel ignoring all this in the name of he is my father.

I am hoping this will be addressed in the next book. I love the world the author has created and I’ll be picking up the next book.

🔥𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: NA Fantasy Romance, Romantasy
🔥𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//𝟓

Thank you again so much to @allthingsnatusch and @bookofmatchesmedia for the ARC of this book! I absolutely loved it and finished it in less than 24 hours, which is unheard of for me. I could NOT put it down!!

Let’s start with the world building - it was PHENOMENAL! It was detailed enough for the reader to really be able to envision the world, and creates a magic system that is easy to understand, but it wasn’t confusing to keep up with. I think it was a the perfect blend of fantasy, romance, and it had just the right amount of political intrigue that kept me literally glued to my seat because I couldn’t stop reading it!

This story follows our FMC, Ariel, and I just loved her so much. She is half gargoyle/half dragon and has endured prejudices her entire life because of it. She is strong and fierce and doesn’t back down from anything or anyone and I love that about her. She has to journey with Hemming, whom she has a complicated past with, in order to save her father from a potential threat.

I loved the chemistry between Ariel and Hemming! It was a slow burn, he falls first, friends to enemies to lovers and it was just amazing! I love their banter and the way they interact with each other. When she returns to Daglaar, there is definitely some residual tension between them from a past experience that left Ariel feeling like Hemming betrayed her. I loved seeing them mend their relationship and come to terms with their feelings. They are so protective of each other and I just love them so so so much!

This book had me twisting and turning with all the plot twists that were happening and I was literally biting my nails because I was so suspicious of everyone (except Ariel and Hemming)! Shayfer easily became one of my favorite side characters the more I got to know him.

I think this was the PERFECT setup for the rest of the series and I literally cannot wait to find out what happens in book 2! I have so many questions about everyone and am so excited to see where the story goes and I can’t WAIT to get more Ariel and Hemming!!

This fast paced fantasy is packed with adventure, intrigue, action, betrayal, political unrest and a beautiful slow burn romance.

It’s beautifully written and set against a lush but deadly landscape where peril lies behind every turn. I was captivated by the world building where three different races (Minyades (dragons), Nychterídes (gargoyles) and Neráides (Fae)) live in neighbouring territories but are divided by politics and prejudice. The scene setting and lore unfold at a good pace alongside the story so I could keep up and never felt overloaded.

I loved the unique twist on the supernatural characters and their cool characteristics - the Minyades appear human but have dragon characteristics like wings and the ability to breath fire, whilst the Nychterides have skin as strong as stone.

The characterisation was on point, and despite their supernatural abilities, the MCs were engaging and relatable with real depth.

Ariel is a bad a$$ heroine who can hold her own in battle but is kind, loyal and forgiving. She has always been seen as ‘lesser’ as the sole mixed blooded female warrior in a male dominated world. Half Fae, half gargoyle Hemming stole my heart and I love how protective he was of Ariel, even when it brought pain upon himself. Ariel and Hemming are united in the prejudices they’ve faced which has made them stronger and shaped them into the fearless characters they are. I loved them for it!

Ariel and Hemming are thrown together in a bid to save Ariel’s father, which gives them ample time to address their feelings for each other. I enjoyed watching their relationship change from friends to enemies to lovers as they find their way back to each other in the most beautiful slow burn romance full of ‘he falls first’ and snarky banter goodness!

The plot is exciting and full of epic battles, monsters and plenty of twists and turns that held me enthralled until the last page. I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2!

Read this book if you love;
• Friends-to-Enemies-to-Lovers
• Slow Burn Romance
• He Falls First
• Forced Alliance
• Secret Identity

The blurb caught my eye the first time and suffice to say, I'm quite satisfied with the execution!

I love the world building with three different tribes – Fae, dragons and gargoyles and each of them has their own territory.
There’s also the creepy Black Forest filled with dangerous creatures you could think of.
I enjoy reading where the main characters go through this forest and face some challenges together.

The story is told in dual POVs – Hemming and Ariel which is a nice touch. It helps the readers get to know their character and their thoughts better.
Apart from the main characters, I found others to be loveable as well like Shayfer and Sophia who liven up the story as well.

Hemming and Ariel started out as friends who found safety in each other since they have something similar – they’re the product of two different tribes.
The blooming romance between Hemming and Ariel is what I like the most from this story. How their relationship slowly changes as they get to know each other again after 4 years of not seeing one another.

There’s a couple of surprises in the story, some I found predictable. Nonetheless it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of following through the plot from the beginning until the end.

Overall, this is a well written story and I enjoy my time reading this book. I wish the world building would expand since Ariel is still searching for answers regarding her identity.
I’m looking forward to read the next book cause this series has the elements to make a great series.

TL;DR Wow this was such a fun and entertaining book!! I freaking adore Hemming and his beast. And Ariel was such a badass FMC. I’m also in love with the found family.

“Never underestimate a woman’s rage, Hemming. It has been the undoing of your sex for centuries.”

Full review

This was an enticing and heart-pounding story of second chances, heartwarming friendships, and overcoming prejudices. It was a true friends-to-enemies, where swords are drawn at first sight, evolving into a sweet, slow-burn romance. Plus, it’s a dual POV where he falls first. And I adored Ariel’s character! She’s a badass and loves fiercely but isn’t blinded by it. She follows her gut rightfully when things seem suspicious. Did I mention she can BREATHE FIRE?! Her dragon scales are so freaking cool. And Hemming! He’s such a cinnamon roll for Ariel, and his sweeter, protective personality is balanced perfectly by the more fiercely possessive beastly side.

One of my favorite aspects was that the initial miscommunication between the MCs did not last long, allowing ample time for their relationship to heal and develop naturally instead of feeling rushed. The found family gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings, especially the interactions between Hemming and Sophitiya. Just melted my heart into a puddle of goo 🥹. And I would not mind a book on Shayfer if the author so chooses to bless us. I’ll even settle for a novella 🙏🏽. He’s so supportive of Ariel, putting his feelings aside for what’s best for her.

Overall, I loved it and can’t wait for the sequel! The ending was the perfect balance of leaving you wanting to know what happens next without a brutal cliffhanger.

Wow, I loved this book SO much! I’ll just jump right in because this had everything I could ever want in a fantasy novel -

✷ beautiful, compulsively readable writing,
✷ imaginative and immersive world-building,
✷ well-developed, relatable characters,
✷ dual POVs with our childhood friends to enemies to lovers ,
✷ tension, banter, he-falls-first longing,
✷ plot twists,
✷ fantasy adventure, AND -
✷ an ending that has me craving the next book ASAP!!

There are so many layers to this story that intrigued me from the start and kept me hooked! There are 3 races - the Nychterides (gargoyles), the Minyades (dragons), and the Neráides (Fae) - who have been at war with each other since being cursed by the gods in different ways at the creation of their world. (If you’re trying to picture this in your head - they appear human but with traits of different creatures such as wings, scales, and skin that’s hard as stone!) Each race has their own gifts and secrets, which is why anyone different than them is seen as a threat. To add another layer of intrigue, both our MCs Ariel and Hemming are mixed-race, which puts them in an especially precious situation among the Nychterides, but also tightly bonds them as children. That is until Hemming betrays Ariel and tries to kill her… and now she needs his help to rescue her father.

If you are a fan of Romantasy, this is a must read!! I’m so happy this is a series because I can’t wait to spend more time with these characters and to find out what happens next!

The first book in the Fireheart series, An Echo Of Fire by Amber Lynn Natusch is a fast-paced, unique and compelling story full of heart-pounding action, endearing moments and unexpected twists.

Perfect for fans of SJM and Clarissa Broadbent, and especially for anyone in their dark romantasy/dragon era, this story provides adventure, betrayal, danger, mystery, romance and political intrigue - not to mention exceptional world-building and outstanding characters.

The author did such a fantastic job with the world-building, immersing the reader in rich details and providing such depth into the setting of the story. This world has three races: dragons (Minyades), fae (Neraides), and gargoyles (Nychterides), each with their own distinct features and strengths. The prejudice between the villages is ever-present, with political unrest at the forefront of everyones minds. There is also a dark, foreboding forest that connects between two villages; filled with dangerous, magical creatures of every kind. I really loved learning about the setting and politics and characters, and felt it was such a fresh new perspective in a fantasy story.

The slow, slow burn romance was top tier and I absolutely fell in love with Hemming. This was a TRUE enemies to lovers, with some past friendship mixed in there too, and watching the emotions blossom and relationship develop between Hemming and Ariel was simply beautiful.

tropes:

- Dragons, Fae & Shapeshifters
- Forced proximity
- Dual pov
- Slow burn romance
- Friends to enemies to lovers
- Fast paced, epic journey, full of action
- Spooky dark forest with dangerous creatures
- Secrets and mystery
- He falls first
- Hidden identity
- Unique magic system
- Political intrigue

Quick chaotic review - will try to write a better less chaotic and rushed one soon

**

An Echo of Fire by @allthingsnatusch is an epic slow burn romantasy with dragons, what more can you ask for?

It follows Ariel who is half Nychterdies and half Minyades (basically half gargoyle, half dragon) because of this, Ariel is often seen as an outcast. Ariel is what all FMC's should be, fierce, powerful and forever looking in the eye of danger. She's a stabby queen and we are here for it.

So basically Ariel, must take a Journey with Hemming, whom she has history with. But, she puts that aside in order to save her father.

Now for her counterpart, Hemming. It's actually unfair Natusch created such a perfect man. Loyal, fierce, protective and SUPPORTIVE. I would walk though fire for that man. The chemistry between the both of them, Literal fire.

The worldbuilding was spectacular, you become completley immersed in this enchanting world. There are dragons, fae, and bat like entities. Plot is fast-paced and honestly un put down able. I dare you to try!

I cannot wait to find our what happens in book two, I have so so many questions and cannot wait to get reunited with these two.

Thank you so much to @bookofmatchesmedia and the author, this book is 🔥. All thoughts are my own.
