Taking the “what” of Peter Drucker—the famed creator of the field of modern management theory—and showcasing the “how” amid his 30+ books published over his lifetime. I honestly didn’t expect the level of insight in a derivative book on an author I already enjoy reading. Great achievement and immediately useful in whatever position you’re in within an organization.

I almost never give a book 5 Stars, in fact this is the first of 2014 that I can remember. Prior to listening to this book on Audible, I had heard some less than flattering things. So I really wasn't sure what I was going to get.

What do you get? With the Practical Drucker, you get "Drucker's 40 Greatest Hits". You get Reader's Digest versions of Drucker's most famous pieces of work. You get clear examples of what Drucker saw in his day. You get current examples (up to 2012) of how Drucker's principles apply today in Business, Government, and Military. You get a well organized book. (I was able to keep Evernote open the entire time and dictate notes on principles 1-40.) You get a Narrator (if on Audio) who is pleasant to listen to and has very good timing. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you get an Author who apprenticed directly under Dr. Drucker. Oh and if you are listening to this on Audiobook, you get all that in about 8 hours.

What you don't get? Remember these are abridged versions of Dr. Drucker's writings and teachings. Even if you memorize all 40 topics you are not going to come out an expert. These bite size chunks are really only meant to wet your appetite, not give you the intimate details and practices behind the philosophy.

I would STRONGLY recommend this book to anyone in a leadership role at any level.

It just not worth it. The book shows its age and often feels like at least 20 years old with examples and phrases. It is better to read the original books instead rather than this mediocre retelling.

thất bại k hẳn là do thiếu năng lực mà thiếu kinh nghiệm

I wanted to love this book and since I've enjoyed a lot of Peter Drucker's writings I thought this would be a great compilation. Unfortunately, it didn't satisfy my need for an overview of Mr. Ducker's wisdom. Maybe if I was in higher management, this book would be better for me and I would've found some of the topics more interesting. I struggled to read each chapter and to find nuggets I could use on a daily basis. If you're trying to read more Drucker, I'd start with The Essential Drucker.

My favorite quotes from the book:

1. "Don't tell me you had a wonderful meeting with me ... Tell me what you're going to do on Monday that's different."

2. "An engaged worker is one who is committed to contributing to the organization and is willing exert extraordinary effort in accomplishing task important to the achievement of organizational goals."

3. "Professor Whistler's former student did a poor job when unchallenged by the job that was too small, but rose to accomplish the most difficult sometimes event impossible, tasks imaginable when properly challenged."

4. "For success, follow these three Drucker principles: Expect some failure, but keep at it. Volunteer, make mistakes, and learn. Never stop learning."

5. "Peter Drucker found that if you continue doing what made you successful in the past, you will eventually fail."

6. "the major difference between a manager and a leader, according to Drucker, is that the manager focuses on doing things right, while the leader focuses on doing the right things."

My opinion: Love me, Love me, Love me some Peter Drucker! So here was my take from this great, all in one book:

1) Mr. Cohen did a PHENOMENAL job bringing the thoughts of Peter Drucker together in one book in a concise organized method.

2) The integration of other thought leaders was offered and how they applied to Drucker's concepts. The author gave best practice application which, in my humble opinion, gives for greater comprehension of how to apply the principles.

3) Well written and thoroughly engaging. This book flowed easily and quickly.

4) This book immediately went onto my business books to purchase list. This will be a well marked up reference book for me.

A good basic introduction to the theories of Peter Drucker but has the distinct impression of being quite heavily padded. There's quite a bit of repetition in examples and rehashing of what's already been said. I suppose that could be aimed towards the reader going through the book out of order but it's distracting otherwise. Drucker clearly comes across as a Yoda for the Jedi art of Management and I will be looking perhaps at his original work next.

As a student of Drucker, the author has unique insights into one of the great management thinkers of our time. The lessons learned from Drucker apply to entrepreneurial and managerial efforts of all kinds. I trust that my academic and business colleagues will continue to teach these pragmatic lessons for decades to come. David Marshall Hunt

If you have read Drucker, this book is a great reminder. If you have not read Drucker, this book is a great introduction. The book is a collection of 40 of Drucker’s “how to” lessons. For instance, the chapter “Three Principles for Developing Yourself” explains how to (1) Expect failure but keep at it; (2) Volunteer, make mistakes and learn; (3) Never stop learning.

A very condense form of the 15 books of Peter Drucker's over 30 books and various articles that he had wrote about business management and many other things.

Contents are partially the same as the authors other book about Drucker. None the less, it gives great insights from a direct Drucker apostle
