It has been three years since Kyo has seen his student when an opportunity to cross paths with him presents itself. He immediately discovers that Loki has gotten into trouble again and intervenes.
This story contains elements of bondage between two men and is in no way intended, or suitable for underage readers.
S. K. Hart is the worst person in the world. When she isn’t fighting the forces of good and thwarting plans to improve humanity, she enjoys watching horror movies and building tiny obnoxious things with tiny obnoxious parts. Her New England compound is guarded by a slobbery jump-monster disguised as a dog and a suspicious quantity of wooden giraffes.
As Overlord to two young, almost equally wicked minions, she has mastered the art of ‘sick burns’ and ‘finger guns.’ Her maniacal laughter can often be heard following allegations of mental torment inflicted upon small humans in the form of ‘homework’ and ‘chores.’ For seventeen years, her ongoing and unrepentant enjoyment of her spouse has sickened even the most wholesome of prudes.
Overlord Hart spends her days fantasizing about controversial things and the most entertaining ways to present them to others. She greatly enjoys sharing her written creations and has been known to take requests and challenges, sometimes against her will. If an idea is difficult enough, she attempts it.
Anyone looking to contact S. Kaeli Hart can find her on her blog, Facebook, or Goodreads, where she posts all updates on all current and future projects.
Yep, it just keeps getting better. Kyo and Loki are wonderful characters. Hart seems to excel at creating situational tension that tugs at the readers heart strings without ever feeling sappy or over played. Often I'm not even certain where it comes from, only that it's there. Here you really feel both Kyo and Loki's frustration, even as they steadfastly refuse to acknowledge it. They simply drive each-other to distraction...and are very very hot together.
Loki does seem to have accomplished A LOT in the three years he was separated from Kyo. He seems to have accrued too much experience in so little time. But he also grew up and returned very much a man...very much the man Kyo needs. If only Kyo would get out of his own way on the subject. I love their dynamic.
The writing here is just as crisp and wonderful as in the previous book. I did notice a minor tendency to reuse stock phrases, but nothing off putting or technically incorrect in any manner. The plot thickens up a bit in this volume too, which is nice. The books ends at a fairly natural point, but there is obviously going to be a third book. (There better be a book three and I'm fairly sure I've seen mention of it somewhere.) I can't wait.
I encountered the first book, Swordmaster Dasan completely by accident and am normally not interested in erotica, gay or otherwise. However, the dynamic between Loki and his unlikely mentor had me enthralled; the struggle for dominance and the wounds hidden within kept me unable to put it down and I was saddened when it ended. When I saw this sequel on Amazon today, I was both excited and apprehensive. Thankfully, this book was just as amazing as the first and I loved the new complications in their already tenuous relationship. The hints of something softer within the sadistic elf were tantalizing and added yet another layer of enjoyment. Not for the faint of heart though. If you have issues with violence of a sexual nature, I wouldn't recommend this book. But if you are more open-minded.... read away. :)
S. Hart writes in one of her blog-entries "...anyone who can stomach the first one would probably enjoy the second". Well I read her entry after reading both SMD (in search of news on SMD3) and obviously I can stomach a lot 'cause I enjoyed both short stories. The first starts off bit strange, as haven’t read the „Playing with Tigers“ I first had to get into the “scene”, realize it’s a “fantasy”, grasp what the plot should be about. Liked the idea a lot, better developed in the second installment, liked the characters even more; their inter-play is somehow unique. The “unfeeling”/detached sex/bondage-scenes often really relate to the ways of “modern” sex-making – unemotional, rough. Though it’s getting better in the SMD2, where something akin affection can be sensed throughout the story, explained (imo) by the understanding of actually both characters, that there hardly is someone else to match their needs/desires. Can’t wait for part 3 - or rather the split in part3 + 4 – to journey along Loki and Kyo towards a hopefully HEA – even if it’s a rough ocean their swimming in…
I’ve very much enjoyed this series, especially part two, which seemed to read more smoothly. The sex scenes, though plenty, vary, making each scene enjoyable. And they certainly are imaginative. Kyo knows just how to play with a blade and make sex smoldering hot. It made me very happy when Kyo was finally able to enjoy himself fully. He deserves that since he makes such an awesome Dom when he is in charge of the scene. I also liked the concept of the story as well as the slowly developing relationship.
The second book in the Swordmaster Dasan series ups the ante as far as semi-consensual bondage sex goes, but there's an interesting shift in Loki and Kyo's relationship in more ways than one. I'm interested and a little fearful for what S. Hart has in mind for book three.
