Electronics A Systems Approach takes a broader view of fundamental circuits than most standard texts, providing relevance to basic theory by stressing applications of dc/ac circuits and basic solid state circuits in actual systems.
This textbook was assigned as part of the electronics certification program I am enrolled in. I found the first 2/3 of the book, on the basics of DC and AC circuits, to be a good standalone resource. The explanations were clear. The sequence of knowledge-building worked very well for me. This was my go-to source for test preparation.
Things started getting hairy at semiconductors and analog circuits. Suddenly the chapters were full of tedious, jargony paragraphs with very little review of previous concepts. I found myself turning more and more to external sources. The last third of the book could benefit from some thorough editing.
Also, the end of lesson problems could have used a bit more explanation. The text provides answers to odd-numbered problems, but with no help for working through them. More than once, I ended with a wrong answer without understanding what I missed. Welp, I guess that's what the profs are for, eh?
