Money. Kid. Fiancé. Never thought I'd have any of them.
Haru.
Money. Kid. Fiancé. Never thought I'd have any of them.
Five years ago, a careless mistake ended up giving me the greatest gift of all—my son. For Max, I abandoned my reckless, dark ways and embraced adulthood, fully intent on getting a promotion and securing a life for both of us. I thought that's all I needed until Summer came into our lives and showed me what I was missing. Apparently everything, because I can't imagine my life without her.
Summer's come a long way from the vulnerable, naïve, misguided girl I first met, but her mother doesn’t see that. Hell-bent on ruining the happiest moment of her daughter’s life, she takes every opportunity to diminish my girl’s strength, cutting her down with vicious words and cruel actions.
I wonder what it’s really about. Is she just a vindictive woman or is there something deeper here?
The second installment has been just as beneficial as the first one.
Having read both books, I can’t emphasize enough how much I liked them.
This one was rammed packed with a steady relationship between, Summer and Haruki starts with page one and I once again I was hooked from that point forward. Growth was apparent this time around. Summer once again lets fear and insecurity that stem from her dealings with her mom clouded her brain.
Summer’s has a dependable friend in Darby, who was the listening ear, she needed as she wasn’t judgmental towards Summer, even when she had many opportunities to slap summer up inside her head.
Haruki remained sweet and wasn’t afraid to straighten Summer’s mom out. He knew that because of that strain relationship summer has with her mom, it was holding her back and stunting her Growth. Summer had so much potential yet she kept letting her mom get the best of her with her rudeness. But HARUKI did go to bat for his woman and put her mom in her place and brought her all the way together.
As I proceed to amaze by this authors’ work, I find myself not being confused or bored when reading about her characters, their lives and their daily struggles, but rather I was intrigued, interested, and wanted to know more about them.
You can witness the amount of love and dedication Ms Watson put into pacing and building the storyline.
His composition style is commendable, complex and understandable. The way she wrote each Summer and Haruki relationship with an intensity so fiery, fits the content of the book perfectly. It felt that both characters were actually talking to the reader about their experiences and their struggles.
I savored this book very much; I was sad when I finished it because it will be hard to find some else this good—after this to read. This book held attention from start to end and I want more because the ending wasn’t satisfying enough….
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a genuine story of trust, family dynamic, friendly and spontaneity between two loving couples.

The story itself is fine. It's a book about a young woman falls in love with a rich man while taking care of his child, and tries to better herself professionally even though she has many things going against her. As she prepares to marry the person she loves, many things go wrong. It's a great premise, very easy to hook the reader. Laine Watson's writing style is good. That being said, I didn't like this book.
I really didn't like this book for many reasons. The first reason is that I didn't find the characters likable. I found Summer to be naive, immature, lacking in self-respect and basically a doormat. She is with Hakuri, a guy she me while babysitting his kid, which is fine, but she basically lives off of him while finishing her college studied and doing an unpaid internship. When he gets angry with her he always insults her of makes her feel like less than she is. He gaslights her when she tries to stand up for herself and she keeps forgiving him!
Like I said, she has no self-respect. And even worse, it's kind of made out to be like she's submissive. It's perfectly fine to be submissive in the bedroom (or wherever you wish to have sex) and during sex, but that doesn't mean you have to let your partner treat you like shit and insult you. I'm beyond tired of people passing this off as okay in books, movies and TV shows. Now, when you argue with your partner and your partner insults you and then makes you think you are ridiculous for feeling upset, that is abuse. When he can't understand that you're upset because 'how can you be upset that he lashed out at you? Can't you see he's the one that's hurting?' That is abuse. There is no reason or justification for treating your partner, the person you're about to marry, like shit.
Her best friend seems super nice and supportive, but when Summer tries to leave Haru, she spends the whole time trying to convince Summer that she should take him back. What kind of friend insists you go back to your abusive ex?
Then you have Summer's mom, who is upset because she wanted Haru but he didn't want her. So what does she do? She treats her daughter like shit, and tries to sabotage them at every turn.
Also you have Max, Haru's son, who is the light in a book filled with abuse, and he adores Summer. He calls her mom the whole book, except on two occasions, the first when Haru get's angry with her and tells her she's can't possibly be worried about Max because she's not his mom and then on another occasion when it's used as a way for him to tell him "It's okay, I don't mind." Even though she does mind.
Finally, Summer calls her vagina her "flower" and that bothered me because she's a grown woman who should be able to use the anatomical word for her body parts. I found it incredibly disturbing the amount of times she referred to it as her flower.
Laine Watson has written a 5-star book. Summer and Haruki (Haru) are a couple and Summer's mom is not happy about her moving a few hours away with Haru and his son Max. Summer's mom is causing problems in Summer's relationship with Haru. Summer and Haru are planing their and Max's grandmother Miako on his mom's side is taking Haru to court for full custody of Max. Summer tries to get Haru to talk to Miako about the case and he tells her that she is not Max's mother and she doesn't know what he is feeling. This hurts her and she packs a bag and goes to her friend Darby's house. Summer tells Darby that the wedding is off. She has been at Darby's for a few weeks and Haru comes to see her so they can talk but he said the wrong thing and Summer tells him to leave. Every time she calls her mom she is told the same thing, her mom tells her that she is doing nothing but playing, she needs to come home. Her mom doesn't want to hear that she is happy. Haru comes to talk to Summer again and they start to talk about the case and almost get into an argument until Summer asks him if he knows what Miako wants to do. Summer sends a message to her mom to get Miako's address and she and Haru go to see her. Haru finds out that she doesn't want full custody, she just wants to see him. Summer and Haru makeup and they are back on for the wedding. Summer calls her mom one more time to see if she will come to the wedding and she is told no. Will Summer and Haru get the HEA they want or will something else happen to split them up? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend this book to anyone.
I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving voluntarily and honest review.
Wow!! I really liked this book, Arima by Laine Watson. I loved Summer and Haru and Max. Summer's mom was very mean to her and I didn't like that. Summer really grew up between the first and this book. She took her role as mom very seriously towards Max. Haru and Summer still had their very steamy moments. I liked how Summer was very independent and liked to do things without anyone's help. But that she still craved her mother's love and attention. She gained a lot of confidence in this book. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I loved it. It brought on all the feels. Romance, Sadness, Anger and Happiness.
I really reading the end to Summer and Haruki's story. I just wish you got a but mire of the end. I wanted Summer to get a backbone she cried about her mom and the way she treated her throughout the whole journey. It gets tiresome at times. The intimate scenes were a bit to much at times. You never knew why the mother was the way she was and that was disappointing. But the story was believable and enjoyable. I truly recommend it. You will go on a journey that you will not forget. These were my first reads by Ms Watson and I can say good job. Go and get both books and enjoy!
If you loved Book 1 (Haruki) then you will love Arima. Summer and Haruki's story continues in book 2 and it was awesome. It was well written with strong and developed plot lines. I adore Max, he made the book more enjoyable and deeper. I still despise Summer's mom for the treatment of her daughter. Arima was an awesome book and I would highly recommend it.

This book was as engaging as the first. Haru and Summer's love journey continues. They encounter some internal and external obstacles that put their love and commitment to the test. As they deal with their problems, it demonstrates how much Summer and Haru have grown individually and as a couple. Both Haruki and Arima were thoroughly entertaining. Laine Watson is a great storyteller. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
This book was incredible! This was the second book of the Huruki Arima duet. I took a chance on this author and the results were ranking the books beyond five stars! This book continues with Huruki and Summer's story. I laughed, I cried. This book was very moving. Huruki and Summer have many obstacles ahead. Will they be able to make it through unscathed? This book is a must read and I highly recommend!
OK, so I liked the books but I couldn't decide if I liked Haru half way through and I didn't like the way he acted half the time. Then there was Summer, everytime she talked about her mom it made me cringe, she was very codependent while still talking a big game. Don't even get me started on Mrs. Vaughn I could have slapped her up and down a street.
I just loved this book. It was so well-written that it captured my mind and I was dragged along for the ride. Once I started reading I could not put it down until I read the last page.

Overall a great read. I had a great time reading this book and getting to know the well developed characters with plenty. I would definitely recommend. Looking forward to the next book.

I can't give this book more than 2 stars. This author needs an honest editor. So many grammatical errors, verb tense problems that I felt like I was reading a junior high paper.
If you loved the first book, then this book is the book to read. This part 2 is stunningly emotional and overwhelming, it is beautifully crafted and a stunning conclusion to this duet.
Getting to read where their life takes them was inspiring. This story had real emotions and real problems that you can place yourself in their shoes. Great read
Pretty good book. There was some parts that I thought was slow but overall it was good. I hated how Summers mother talked to her. I was happy to see that Summer stood up to her mother finally. It broke my heart that Summer was bullied in school. Not sure why my review for book 1 is here for book 2 so here is my review for Arima: Very good book! I was so glad to see Summer stand up for herself and fight for what she wanted. I’m a sucker for a happy ending. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. Definitely kept my attention
