After six happy years together, Todd abruptly leaves Angelo the day their daughter enters the world. Suddenly Angelo finds himself alone with a newborn daughter to raise, and no explanation as to why Todd left him, or the daughter he had so desperately wanted.
Between his daughter, and his career as a kindergarten teacher, Angel doesn’t have time for anything else, let alone a relationship.
When the handsome, auburn-haired Marcus walks into his kindergarten classroom toting his daughter, Angel isn’t looking for a boyfriend. He has enough on his plate raising a thirteen month old daughter, and keeping his class in line.
Only Marcus doesn’t seem to know the meaning of the word no, and soon worms his way into all facets of Angel's life, turning everything sideways. In a twist of fate, the reason for Todd’s betrayal becomes clear, and Angel finds himself with a new outlook on his own life. But can he really expect Marcus to stay?
This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love Has No Boundaries" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.
3.55 stars A promising start about a sweet dad raising his daughter, meeting the guy of his dreams and of course the cute adorable children. I liked Angel and Marcus they made a great team, juggling real life and the obstacles thrown their way. Patience and believing in one another went a long way in helping to overcome the sexual problems the guys faced. But unexpected events threw me for a sixer, the story became jam packed with puzzling and complex issues, a kidnapping, illnesses and more. It felt like one crisis after another with little resolution, most other couples would have cracked under the strain, too much for anyone to have to deal with. An interesting story which should be expanded into a novel, there obviously wasn't enough time to explain everything here. Despite my frustrations I liked it and hope to read more about this appealing family.
When I saw the prompt for this I was impatient to read it. Gay men and kids and a jerk of an ex, just my kind of read. But sadly I never really fell into this story the way I hoped too.
The start was great and Chey falls in my top ten believable babies list, a list I’m afraid Riana failed to make, she just seemed to act and talk far older at times.
I loved the idea of Toby’s story, and I admit I was on tender hooks near the end, not to mention I needed a tissue lol. But the whole climax at the restaurant killed a lot of my enjoyment.
I never really felt any strong chemistry between Marcus and Angel. The way the talked was just a bit too cutesy for me, and everything between them felt rushed.
Maybe I’m being too picky, after all this was only a short, but I just felt nothing was explained enough for me.
Overall a sweet read, but a little too sweet and perfect and rushed for me. I kinda feel that maybe too much was packed in to too short a story.
Offered for FREE from the M/M Romance Group's Love Has No Boundaries event. Thank you too all the amazing authors who participated!
3.5 stars This was sweet, and had all the right components, but it didn't quite hit me like I think it should have. I loved the premise and the beginning of the story, but their sex issue was where I feel like it lost me. It felt forced I guess, and unnecessary.
The rest was good, although I'll admit I skipped the last sex scene. This often happens to me near the end of a book because I just wanna see what happens! I was a little on edge also because I kept expecting .
I can't decide about the epilogue. I kind of liked it, but it felt like an entirely separate book! Like Book 2 crammed into one chapter. But since I read it last and it was so far ahead in time, when I reflect on the book now after finishing its the epilogue that I think of, not the first 130 pages. I dunno if that says good things for the first 130 pages.
Anyway, she better have been setting up a second book at the end there, because I am intrigued! ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
3.5 * First of all this is amazing value for a freebie and by that I mean its novella length and its packed to the gills with ' goings on ' ...there's a lot happening in this story and if I have to nit pick ( which I normally hate doing ) then I would go as far as to say that there's perhaps too much thrown at the reader.
There's the ( very endearing ) base romantic story of two gay men left to bring up their children on their own, meeting ,falling in love and finally making a life together but then you get a sickly child being kidnapped, a possible serious illness scare, sexual problems, a quite serious assault, and an extended epilogue that introduces extra characters and another near tragedy that comes out of the blue but actually explains the title. The actual contents of the epilogue were really interesting and would make a really good follow up novel or novella instead of tagging it all on as an extra but I can also accept that epilogues do round things up so perhaps that is being a bit picky.
Overall I actually thought that this had real moments of brilliance but it also left me feeling a little bit off kilter at times. The writing style is very easy and very well written and I did like the growing love story so its one of those that's a hard one to rate. I think because there were so many little niggles it misses hitting the four star mark so Im going with a 3.5 but for the effort put into this to give us a really decent length free story and for those times when it really did hold my attention, and there were enough to make this mainly enjoyable, I'm rounding it up this time.
I like that sexist preconceptions were ignored. I liked that both characters had issues they needed to resolve and chose to do so together. Plus, men who care for young children are probably some of the most exquisite images I can imagine.
LOVED THIS the FIRST TIME I read it and with the changes and additions, Tara, you made it a FIVE STAR READ, congratulations on a kick-ass story!
Again, as most of you know, I very seldom give five stars to sweet reads. This is one of the few exceptions to my rules. Tara was able to work a great story, believable characters and loads of emotion and hot sex into this beautifully written short story. I know, unbelievable for an author to be successful at achieving this. Trust me, she achieved it and you'll love it.
Angel - who could not fall in love with a man who loved his daughter, Chey, so much that he's a bit over-protective of her. She's his whole life. This story starts out with this sexy kindergarten teacher driving his toddler daughter to the daycare for the first time with everything going wrong that could. You fall in love with him and his daughter, Chey from the first few pages.
Marcus is the sexy, tall father of a student, Riana, that is in Angel's class. He doesn't trust anyone with his child, which is understandable since his ex-in-laws have kidnapped his special needs, toddler son.
He pursues Angel, and finds a physical reason that Angel doesn't feel the things he should when he's making love. He stands by Angel through this hard time and it's sexy as hell.
I'm going to stop trying to summarize this story. I suck at it. JUST READ THE DAMN BOOK! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
Really cute picture prompt and a really sweet story for the LHNB event.
Angel is a kindergarten teacher, his new student has an awesomely sexy dad with green eyes. Angel is also raising his daughter by himself so they have that in common, slowly it progresses and they become a couple. It's a bit instant love, but that's ok, with shorter stories you sometimes have to move these things along and they went through a few rough things right at the start and that can help form a bond.
There is a lot going on on this story, each thing on it's own was very interesting and the medical issue was unique and I thought very good to bring into a story. First time I've read about it like that, and I always like when something surprises me. The issue with Toby and then some of the other stuff..all in all maybe a bit much for a shorter story, but it was sweet and cute and I read it straight through. I did have a thing, I really don't like 'brat' as an endearment or anything really, and Angel uses it a lot...but that is just me. It's also very heavily child oriented story, so you will need to like kids in your romance, since they play such a big role.
If you are looking for a sweet m/m short book then this is a good one to read. After reading Tara's first book The Darker Side of Trey Grey I knew I would read anything coming from this author. This was a very sweet light m/m romance. Something I needed at the time. I do wish it was long of course. I really enjoyed this one.
What a great story. I loved both Marcus and Angel, they were perfect for each other and really were what each other needed in their lives. How they both loved and cared for their own children and each others was just so sweet. I was glad that the author gave us a story that went from the beginning all the way through to after the kids had grown. I will definitely look at more books from this author, a great read from beginning to end for me.
This is a sweet story about two gay men raising children alone, putting everything about their own pleasures firmly on hold while they give 110% to their young families. Finding each other allows them to share responsibilities and pleasures and they quickly fall in love.
Another great addition to the LHNB collection that I can recommend to all M/M romance fans. Especially those that love reading about children.
4.5 stars Loved it:) A story with ups and downs, not all smooth sailing, perhaps a bit much for one lifetime? Nevertheless I love the writing style, it's a joy to read.
I'm afraid I can't join into the mass of raving reviews on this one. I love me a good story about men with children and this one started out rather well but fast dove into territory where I though, why (Todd leaving, the reaction of their friends, Marcus wanting to leave his children to his drug addicted wife after crying for an our when his girl first said Dad and so on) to too fast (Marcus' and Angelos' relationship), to WTF (Angelo (sorry, I found Angel pretty silly) calling Marcus a brat, why isn't Angel a top if he's uncomfortable with being a bottom, to Marcus some kind of unsteady character (playing he hard guy and then again his crying attacks, moving in together after approx. one month, leaving my baby girl in the car of a guy Angel knows just a few hours). The secondary story about Toby was a bit much on the other hand, I never really warmed either to Angelo nor to Marcus but the few lines about Toby and Randy in the epilogue intrigued me. More so then Angelo and Marcus and all the other secondary characters together. I wouldn't mind to read more about these two.
Gosh this is a twisty tale, with lots of ups and downs. I like the emphasis on family, even though both boys are missing their most immediate members. Their parents are gone, so when Angel and Marcus find each other, they don't let go.
This is long, involved and occasionally a bit kinky.
Wow, just wow. This was a perfect mixture of angst and fluff, with two, then three adorable kids, and an amazing emotional connection between the two MCs. I would have paid to read this!
This was another story that started out good, but then everything went crazy (literally, there was all sorts of life changing events being thrown out there and these guys stuck together after only knowing each other a short amount of time). Good for a free read.
I liked Angel and Marcus' story, but I didn’t *love* it. Single dad, kindergarten teacher, raising his daughter after his ex ran out on them the day she was born. He meets the dad of one of his students and falls in lust. Things happened really fast. After four days, Marcus and his daughter pretty much moved in. I wish the story had ended at 85%. The epilogue didn’t add anything for me. There was just too much stuff crammed in there.
I do appreciate the author offering this as a FREE read as part of the DRitC event. I will definitely check out more from Tara Spears!
Very enjoyable love story about two men, Angelo (aka Angel) and Marcus, who initially bond because of their young children, and eventually fall in love. This story felt very real, which is great, and I also enjoyed the subplot regarding Marcus' young son Toby, who was kidnapped by Marcus' former in-laws. The development of Angel and Marcus' relationship, and all the obstacles they overcame together, was really sweet. Highly recommended!
So freaking sweet. Poor Angel, thinking he was sucky at sex. Thank God Todd dumped him or he'd be stuck like that. Great book about two gay men with children trying to make things work. Loved the epilogue at the end!
So I was absolutely in love with this until I made it to the never-ending epilogue. I just feel the need to explain the 3 Star rating because this was really freaking amazing. And it's pretty much a personal preference. I don't have problems with epilogues in general, I like them most of them time. But my attention wanders severely if they are too long and I end up skimming.
I was all excited and ready to give it 4 or more stars until I reached the end and realized that I was trapped in my ADD nightmare.
review: Another romance written for the M/M Romance GR group Love Has No Boundaries promotion. This one was too sweet and the love so unrealistic that I just couldn't get into it. If you are looking for fluff romance between two dads with little kids, then this is perfect for you. However, if you like an edge, something a little darker, or even action-y then stay away. It is well written although a cliché romance story. It just was... ok.
LHNB Story released 23.6.13 Just over 4 stars A well written and very dramatic contemporary story which sees the 2 MC's struggle through various issues, including health scares, recovering a kidnapped child and past abuse on their way to a happy ending, with an epilogue set 16 years after the main bulk of the story to round it all off.
This was a sweet and romantic read. Fairly easy going and laid back, with a little bit of drama thrown in there too. I loved the epilogue, and thought the ending was really lovely.
Six... little story, many coincidences... creativity not so bad. Later parts (after surgery) *you know what I mean* is great. a good book to kill time...
synopsis: angel is a single father, because his boyfriend of 6 years walked out on him the day their daughter was born. when marcus arrives in class with his daughter, angel, who hasn't been interested in anything except for raising his daughter for the past year, is attracted. angel resists because of perceived improprieties with regards to becoming involved with the father of one of his students. once his boss gives him the go ahead, however, it's all systems go. except for the fact that angel doesn't enjoy sex much, doesn't get excited by the act at all. it turns out to be a medical problem and angel has it fixed. marcus also has a son, who is the same age as angel's daughter and was kidnapped by his maternal grandparents, so they also deal with trying to get him back.
what i liked: i might get a little gushy here, because i REALLY liked this story. it just struck a chord with me for some reason. i liked both angel and marcus, and the types of fathers that they were. i liked them together, and i liked the fact that marcus cared enough about angel to know that something was wrong sexually, and to do something about it, rather than ignore it like angel's previous boyfriends had done. i liked the interactions that each had with each other's daughters, and i also liked the fact that marcus's daughter, in spite of being warned to keep quiet about it, was telling everyone that her father was going to get married to angel. both little girls were children, rather than adults masquerading as children. i liked that nobody was perfect, not even the children. and i LOVED the epilogue, and how you got a glimpse into their lives 16 years later. it was unusual, and therefore, great.
what i didn't like: if i have any beef, it would be that there was a lot of drama packed into such a short story. (medical problems, missing son, arrested for trying to grab missing son, stabbed when finally get missing son, accident that nearly kills one of the main characters, although that is only touched on in passing, but still.)
I was going through books on my Kindle and I saw this title and didn't know what the book was about. I decided to read the blurb and got excited because I love kids in m/m stories and was expecting a heartwarming story. Didn't get that.
When we meet Marcus he seemed way older than Angelo. I pegged him to be maybe 32 - 35. I wish we'd been given his age because things don't add up. It appears that he's the same age as Angelo since he got a girl pregnant while in high school and his daughter is only six. That took my mind off the story a bit.
Although Marcus said the right things and did the right things I never felt any of it. It felt like I was just reading words on a page. Also I got the impression that Marcus has a temper and could get abusive. It was just in the things he said. When they finally made love I really didn't care. It would have been nice if they made slow love instead of Marcus pounding into Angel, even if he was asking for it. I found that a bit insensitive.
The story felt a tad bit disjointed as well. I didn't really get the need for Marcus to have 2 kids with one of them being kidnapped. We could have done without that. The epilogue wasn't really needed. Would parents be that cavalier if their just turned 18 year old daughter was having sex in their house like their just turned 18 year old gay son???
Too much was put into this story. Didn't feel the chemistry between the characters.
ETA: Forgot to add something. Marcus married this girl because it was a dare and he got her pregnant and they were married for six years. We know that he never cheated on her so was Angelo the first man Marcus was with? Doesn't seem like it. Marcus came across as too experienced. So where did he get all this knowledge from? PORN??? I don't think so. I wish that was explained in the story.
Six by Tara Spears is a story that is sure to touch your heart.
Angelo finds himself a single parent, adrift in his life and lonely without the companionship of a partner. He dreams of finding more than a one night stand, but after being abruptly abandoned by his partner in what should have been the most important moment of their lives, he now doubts that he will ever be able to open himself up to the possibility of emotionally connecting with another man. In fact, he suspects that his libido may have left the day he brought his infant daughter home.
When Angelo meets Marcus, also a single parent, he is afraid of acknowledging the growing attraction between them. But Marcus has plenty of emotional baggage of his own, and as the extent of the turmoil Marcus is dealing with in his personal life comes to light, Angelo is surprised to find himself opening up his own heart in response.
Just as their romance appears to be heading towards a happy ending Angelo has a health scare that brings him to his knees emotionally, and leaves him further doubting if Marcus could ever truly love him.
Filled with love, laughter, heartache and passion. Six follows these two men on the most unexpected journey of their lives and left me feeling that I had peeked through a window into the real lives of two very special men.
Readers should be aware that this book contains steamy sex scenes, references of emotional abuse, episodes depicting child abuse and/or endangerment, and moments where the main characters reveal their deepest doubts and emotional flaws. A M/M romance that showcases life at it's highest highs and lowest lows, Six is at times heart wrenching, and shouldn't be read by those under the age of 18 or anyone that isn't willing to be emotionally pulled apart and put back together again in a whole new way.
Six is a sweet cute little story about two single man raising children. I. normally try to avoid babies and children in my stories. Let me tell the world there were a lot of babies & kids in this read. I can say from experience all of the kindergarten scenes were spot on. This was what I call a "light" read. Things happen at a quick pace and problems were solved - done. I do wish it wasn't such an extreme case of insta-love. The getting to know you stage was really interesting and should have lasted maybe six or seven months. Yes, sometimes when a couple breaks up one person loses all the friends and It's sad but are you telling me no one person was there for Angelo. Oh and I detested the use of the word BRAT. I can barely stand it when referred to children. This whole thing had a new writer feel to it. It also had a good, solid base, I feel if this writer keeps working, keeps taking advice and learning we might have some really good reads in our future.
