See No Evil, is a psychological thriller, with a fast-paced-keep-turning-the-page edge. This work of fiction explores dissociative identity disorder, also known as split personality.
Coming Soon...watch for the second book in the Shingle Beach Psychological Series.
About the Author Cat Byrd has had thirteen books published by traditional publishers under a different name pen name. She was a bestselling author for one of her prior publishers. Her favorite authors are Lisa Gardner, Lisa Jackson, and Harlan Coben. If you like novels by these authors, you will most likely enjoy See No Evil. Cat is fascinated with all things mental health, which comes through in the psychological thrillers she writes.
My kind of book (especially good reading as we near Halloween). This novel, from a relatively unknown author, is a real page turner. Liam and Jinx are the epitome of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When asked why he did it, his reply, “They had to die. They were evil.” When Sasha found the hidden closet she knew just how despicable Jinx really was. Not only had he killed the evil ones, he’d also killed family and friends. What was to be done?
This is the story of a family man Liam. He’s a father, a friend, a Physiologist. When his headaches come he has no idea what is about to happen. He simply responds to what The Master tells him to do, and then hours later he returns to normal as if nothing strange or even heinous has overcome him.
With every kill he feels himself grow stronger until.....a real psychological thriller.
Even tho you know 1/2 way thru who the killer is, the story still grabs you and takes you on a scary journey, inside a psychopath’s mind. I found the info on mental illness and just how it affects people extremely interesting, as well as alarming. I do wish there was a list of books in the series at the end so I could get the next book! Can’t wait to see how Sammi and Marc plan to “make it work”!
What an interesting take on DiD, OCD and serial killing. I loved the writing style, it flowed so well. The females main character annoyed me at times but I still rooted for her, and while somewhat graphic, it wasn’t over the top, just enough to spook you. I hope there’s a book 2.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
I don't know much about law enforcement. I don't know much about mental illness. What I do know is when I've just read a great psychological thriller, or a great crime drama, and this novel is both of those things. You really get a feel for the characters, and they are all fairly likeable/deserving of empathy. The longer you read, you will find yourself really feeling for these people. Even the CK (Cutlass Killer) himself.
My one critique came towards the end of the book. Without giving away too much, I was having one of those horror-movie-cringe-worthy moments, nearly screaming at the detective Marc to go to his sister's house, not call every Tom, Dick & Harry in your phone to find out where a serial killer might theoretically 'take someone, were he to kidnap them' (I am not quoting here, mind you!).
That being said, I was overall quite pleased with this book, it having been a freebie I picked up. I would gladly dish out real $ on book 2, if only to pick up on where the characters (who at this point are more like friends) have left off after dealing with such a horrific string of events, and if nothing else, to find out if Sam and Marc are ever going to pull themselves together and save their marriage! :)
My favorite genres rolled into one; Psychological Crime Thriller, Suspense, Mystery, with a dash of Paranormal - what more could I ask for. I was piqued by the book description, that it would go into mental illness and I was sucked into the story from the first page and had a hard time putting it down to attend to life. LOL
I've always been intrigued with True Crime and what makes diabolical minds tick. "Hear No Evil" is a great scary read, with characters one can relate to and insanity you know can be real, especially if you had loved ones who been diagnosed with some kind of mental chemical imbalance and/or psychosis.
A very well written storyline and characters I hope to read more of in future installments. I definitely recommend this read. Prepare to be reading for a while, it's an intense page-turner. ;-)
This story is a fascinating but terrifying read about a psycho on the loose. The characters are well defined and interesting. It is graphic in its description of the heinous acts of the killer which goes along with the mental and psychological problems that he suffers from - Dissociative Identity Disorder or split personality.
This author does a commendable job linking all ends and keeping the reader actively engaged in the story. I found I could not put the book down and had to read late into the night. I look forward to the next installment of this series.
See No Evil is a compelling thriller with a unique premise. The characters drive the action, and they're all believable with their own motives and backstories. The story unfolds at a good pace and is intriguing enough to maintain reader interest for the full duration of the book.
Byrd is a talented writer who tells an engaging story. I recommend this novel for anyone looking for a good character-driven suspense story.
I WAS A VERY SAD STORY, I HAD TROUBLE READING IT ONCE I REALIZED HOW IT WAS GOING TO PLAY OUT. MENTAL ILLNESS IS SUCH A TERRIBLE THING AND READING ABOUT IT, I JUST COULDN'T ENJOY IT. IT IS HARD TO DISLIKE THE CHARACTER THIS STORY IS ABOUT, I HAD SO MANY MIXED EMOTIONS GOING THROUGH MY HEAD. I FELT SORRY FOR HIM, HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS, HOW HORRIBLE. I WON'T BE READING ANYMORE OF THESE DUE TO THE SUBJECT MATTER. THIS IS NOT A BAD BOOK BUT IT'S JUST NOT FOR ME, TOO MUCH. ;(
Well would you Google that? Storm fathers! Goodreads the same time I have a few days left to get the chance of winning a few days to the kids were you doing today I was just a few years ago I was just wondering if it works out for you to get back to the basics for a few weeks now I
This was a real page-turner. Really had me guessing right to the end, and it ended actually better than I thought it would. A good tale with a high body count, enough gore to be impressive without going too far. Right down my ally for what I consider a really good read.
This was a very intense suspense/thriller. The characters were very colorful & it kept you guessing to the very end. This is part of a series that I am going to follow. Cat Byrd writes the books I love to read. I suggest everyone give her the opportunity to entertain you.
Wow! This was a well written Suspense Novel. I enjoyed the way she kept the reader engaged to the end. I really felt sorry at the end for Sasha and Katie. Both in love with whom they believed to be two different people but one in the same.
Edge of your seat thrill ride. I love books that keep you guessing until near the end. Fantastic ending. This should be on your must read list. If you enjoy a good murder mystery this is a winner.
I really enjoyed this book. It was written well and the story was engrossing. I noticed quite a few minor errors (Marc to Mark a lot and Sammi to Sammie once) but it didn't take away from the book for me.
Spell binding. Good character descriptions. Fast passed and exciting. I didn't want to stop reading so I got started early the next day to find out how it ended. Adult reading due to the Gore content.
