Glamour Blind #2

Destiny in the Flames

Rate this book
“You are literally a faerie princess. Isn't that every little girl’s dream?”

It was never mine. Of all the things I expected when I left the human world for the Sidhe, being a lost princess didn’t even rank. The title feels like a pair of boots that are a size too small.

My father, the Winter Prince, insists I compete in the Solstice Challenges and take my place among the Winter nobles. But won’t that completely disregard my Summer heritage?

I’ve heard the noble fae journey to the Ancient Mother’s domain to seek their destiny. I’m not sure I believe in it, but I’m going anyway. It’s time to get some new answers, figure out what my destiny is and what it has to do with dreams of shattered windows and a mysterious, faceless woman.

It seems like a good idea. The thing is, I’ve always been better with the bad ones.

Sarah has always been a storyteller. From when she was a child telling stories to her parents in the back seat of the car on long drives until today, she has always loved to tell stories. She tried not being a writer for a long time and then decided there was no stopping the people talking in her head so she might as well let them have the voice they seemed to crave.

When she was deciding what she wanted to write, she at first decided on Urban Fantasy. That’s what she liked to read the most, so it made sense. But as time went on, she realized she also loved to read Contemporary Romance and suddenly had an idea for a story in that genre. After spending a lot of time ignoring the voices, she knew how futile it was, and so decided to have her cake and eat it too. Now here we are with two genres.

Will there be cross-over? Only time will tell.

This book is AMAZING!

To begin with, I had an ARC copy because Sarah is awesome and hooked me up. But I'll definitely be picking up an actual copy.

The story itself is absolutely fantastic and picks up almost immediately after book 1 with Calynn dealing with more nonsense from the Sidhe. We get more info about her history, we meet the other side of the family, find out the reason behind Calynn's strange dreams, and even find out what her expected destiny is. All the while adding people to her group of misfits and rejects that she turns into an amazing team. Add to all that Calynn learning how her magic works and competing in what is effectively a tourney with it.

Every single page was fantastic and an each moment was a very enjoyable read. I cannot wait for Book 3!

Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 of this series, but book 2 really grabbed me. Beautiful worldbuilding, breathtaking intrigue, and a slow burn romance that kept me turning the pages. I love how this found family is coming together and can't wait to see how it moves forward in book 3!

Book 2 of this series delivers an exhilarating continuation right from where the first installment left off, thrusting Calynn into a whirlwind of challenges orchestrated by the Sidhe. This time around, we're immersed in a rich tapestry of revelations about Calynn's history, unveiling the enigmatic aspects of her lineage. Meeting the previously unknown side of her family, uncovering the secrets behind her cryptic dreams, and unraveling the prophecy that foretells her destiny all contribute to the intricately woven plot.

What truly elevates this narrative is the growth of Calynn's character, as she forges deep connections with a diverse ensemble of characters, transforming a motley crew of misfits and outcasts into an extraordinary team. The story intricately weaves together Calynn's exploration of her magical abilities, intertwined with her participation in a compelling tournament that keeps readers hooked page after page.

Each moment of this book was an immersive delight, filled with captivating storytelling that never missed a beat. The author masterfully crafts a tale that brims with excitement, making every page an enjoyable and thrilling read. The anticipation for Book 3 is palpable, as this series promises an enthralling continuation of Calynn's journey, leaving readers eager for more.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

3.5*

Accidentally deleted from 'all' shelves when I meant to remove from just one! -- Thankfully I had the original shelf open in another window, and it was just one page that I was able to grab a screenshot of, so I can re-add all 17 books.
I don't store reviews, so I have clue what else I added beyond the star rating, sorry! :(

I'll try to recall to add my thoughts, again, when I do a re-read.

First time read the author's work?: Yes

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

This picks up where Book 1 (yes read that first!) left off. I could not put it down!
You've got to love Calynn! Last installment she finds out she is a changeling...fae born but switched with a human and grew up as a human...a lot of hard knocks...toughened her up. But being a fae princess (Father is Winter and Mother is Summer) takes a lot of getting used to and is not as glamorous as you'd think! She continues to stay to true herself and her morals.
In this book she meets her mother....these fae...unbelievable! Calynn adds to her crazy crew, finds out some hard truths, and instead of giving up or giving in, she pulls all that strength and conviction tighter and rights the wrong she did to someone she cares about. (Thank goodness! I love that guy!) Along the way, she finds out what her dreams mean and who the mystery woman is...she also accepts her purpose in this world. Not willing to be the underdog in a strange land anymore, she shows what she is made of and more.
I can't wait to see where this takes her in the next installment!

Wow, this series got REALLY GOOD. The first book was great but I often knew what was coming - in this book I had no idea what was going to happen next. The romance was mutually supportive with the woman being the leader, the magic was really cool, we got a faerie road trip, faerie court nastiness, plenty of adventure and magical creatures. I spent the first half of the book dying for the MC to figure out what was obviously going on with Ronan, I even woke up this morning stewing about it! But otherwise she was a lot more observant than in book one. TW: talk of SA.

Perfect second book of the series

After having had the time to get quite acquainted to the heroine in the first book there is now an exploration into the various strengths of magic she has and to refine them, finding out more about herself and also what other people want of her, good or bad.
A wonderfully written book suitable for a wide audience. Action, adventures and challenges are presented seamlessly and you can really immerse yourself into the book. Fabulous.

I got this as an ARC from the author, and absolutely love this. Right now, I’m still in that post read spot where I want to share everything I loved about it but then remember it’d be one big spoiler. So, the best I can say is if you read the first one, this one is just as awesome, and has so much going on. And now I have to wait until the next release….

Fabulous follow up to book 1

I absolutely devoured this book and cannot wait for book 3 to come out. If Calynn felt like an outsider in Vancouver, she really feels like a fish out of water in the Sidhe. Forced to navigate the tricky politics of the Sidhe without Ronan, Calynn builds a team of misfits and outcasts to help her all while contending with a destiny she does not want.

Calynn's story picks up from the last book, with dreams, magic, politics, and more. She goes to meet her other side of the family. Her and her misfits just make the story.

Calynn continues to have bad ideas as she comes face to face with her destiny. I loved the world building in this book, and getting to know Calynn and her strength better. She is a formidable leader, and I'm rooting for her to be successful. I can hardly wait to get my hands on book 3!

Destiny in the Flames

SP Neeson is a new author for me. This second novel is just as exceptional as the first. Interesting storyline, great character development, cool world building based on Fae stories and fables

Politics long forgotten rules. Romance, soul mates maybe. Contest of magic skills. Acceptance of society outliers. Bit of portal hopping
