The Loch
by Robert Forrester

It was great fun to meet up with Inspector Anderson and join him in solving another exciting caper. Though in this story he seemed melancholy much of the time, perhaps the lost of his partner in his last adventure, Eynhallow Enmity is still taking its toll on his psyche.

He makes his entrance by train, quite obnoxious and more than a little intoxicated. Not a fitting manor in which to meet the officer in charge, Sergeant Betty Sandilands and fellow officer, PC Featherstone. Sandilands learns quickly that blind drunk is only a shot or two away for Anderson in much of this book.

Sandilands has a full plate coping with Mike Cunningham, an American looking for his sister who went missing about a year ago while she was visiting Loch Morar. Cunningham is tracing his sisters last steps hoping to find out what happened to her. However, his sleuthing skills quickly get him in hot water. Sandilands duties also include helping Inspector Anderson find a missing farming inspector named Briers who disappeared while inspecting a local cattle farm.

The story seemed to be a take off the Loch Ness monster. Though once again Forrester turned the tables on me and what seemed to be.....really wasn't after all. The story was filled with enjoyable characters that soon had me routing for them and their causes. Forrester has a knack for creating characters that are so likable it seems a pity when the book is through and you realize that you don't get to spend anymore time in the characters company. The story itself is as enjoyable as are the characters. I found it to be an easy read, a true page turner. It's a difficult book to put down until the end. I'm very much looking forward to reading the next book in the Anderson series.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an enjoyable mystery with a bit of the unexplained thrown into the mix.
