Apparently it took five years for me to read this. I am going to blame the fact it was on my computer for that. Just kept forgetting about it when looking for something to read. Although Enid Blyton was the creator of the Famous 5 she did not write this story. That doesn't mean this isn't a good story because it actually is. For those who aren't familiar with them the Famous 5 were one of the many groups of young people that Ms. Blyton wrote stories about. Most of those stories involved some sort of mystery. In this particular instance the Famous 5 are George/Georgina Kirrin, her three cousins and Timmy the dog.
This story involves the group with the legendary Treasure of the Templars. There are also five actual Knights Templar who are looking for the treasure so as to recover it for the order. There is also a professor and his assistant who are looking for the treasure as well. However they are nearly as benign as the Templars turn out to be. Apparently the Templars return to this area every ten years to see if they can find the treasure, or at least the part of it that is hidden here. The story has plenty of twists and turns, and at times the Five are not sure who, if anyone can be trusted. However all turns out well in the end, as is the normal in this type of story. I have read many of Ms. Blyton's books and I can say that this would have been quite a satisfactory addition to the ouevre if she had written it. For those who enjoy a good adventure story featuring younger heroes this one is worth a shot. Happy reading.
