#GoodMorningEarth: Chris Hadfield

Rate this book
Chris #GoodMorningEarth brings together for the first time exclusive stories and photos from Maclean’s reporter Kate Lunau, who’s been on the story since getting exclusive access to watch Hadfield train to become the commander of the International Space Station. The book also features “The Twitter A giant tweet for mankind,” a selection of Hadfield’s tweets that gives readers a front-row seat on what his life is like inside the ISS, as well as dozens of his best landscape photos of Earth, curated from Facebook and Twitter. The astronaut shares his wry sense of humour during highlights from sessions on Reddit’s "Ask Me Anything" and Twitter, where he answered questions on everything from fear to recycled urine to whether he could hear Don Cherry from space. Join Hadfield in the Space Station and discover what his 700,000 Twitter followers already it’s quite a ride.

This book has me all excited for the release of Commander Hadfield's own book in October. I followed him with much enthusiasm while he was orbiting the earth. So I look forward to reading more.

This book #GoodMorningEarth is a good way to get a look into like on the ISS and what it's like to train for such a mission. I loved the photos, and I look forward to jumping on my iPad to see them in colour too. The selection of tweets from space was nice. Some I can recall reading st the time, others I must have missed.

I did occasionally find that this book repeats itself. I waited for the whole book for mention of Commender Hadfield's collaboration with the Barenaked Ladies, but was a little over reading and rereading how 6 months in space can age a person 50 years if they don't exercise. I was amazed by that fact the first time it was mentioned. By the third mention I wanted to say "get to the point". There were a few things that were repeated in this way, and that became a little frustrating. As if the different people who collaborated on the book, didn't think to compare notes.

All in all though, it was a good read. I got Geary quite a bit, simply because this man and his stories move me so much. He achieved a lot, and made so many people sit up and take notice.

It is hard for me to not give anything around Chris Hadfield less than five stars. This book hit all the right notes. It captured the Scientific aspects of the mission well, but also showed Hadfield's sense of fun, adventure and poetry. The pictures were great to have as well, although on my black-and-white ereader they lost a bit of the majesty if full colour.
