This book is presented as the next book in the Lens of Time series by Saxon Andrews and I guess it can be said to be just that. However, it is not just the continuation of that series taking off from the last book in the series. Maybe the “double title”: Star Rover - The Worst of Time is meant to reflect this? In any case, this book starts a thousand years into the future. A lot of the races seems to have forgotten their hard earned lessons and civil war is brewing. The president of the Alliance is more of a politician (those of you who have read my reviews for some time know this is a bad thing indeed) than a good leader. To spice things up a newly discovered race is about to crap in the fan. Thus starts the new story arc based on the Lens of Time series.

Not very surprisingly things are moving fast in these stories by Saxon Andrews. Civil war does break out and the new aliens do indeed crap in the fan. Luckily the matter of the Alliance president is dealt with rather swiftly at least. However, we are also treated to a bit of planetary exploration and the making of new friends.

Often, when reading Saxon Andrews books, I have gotten the feeling that it was very much more of the same and that it was getting a bit repetitive. This book is indeed more of the same in that it is written in the same style that Saxon Andrews have been writing all his books but at the same time he have made the story with enough variation and differences that it does not really feel like “déjà vu” when reading it. At least not too much. It is of course still the somewhat naive, light, young adult reading that we are used to from Saxon Andrews which means some romance, heroes in shining armour and loads of action.

There are some mysteries and discoveries thrown in as well. An ancient alien entity with advanced technology, supposedly way more advanced than anything available to both the good guys and the bad guys, are thrown into the mix in the second half of the book. I was expecting that this would be used as a surprise for the bad guys in the end but it didn’t turn out that way. Instead this element of the plot appears to have been saved for a rainy day in some later book. To me this was a good thing. As a matter of fact I feel that Saxon Andrews have toned down this new bad guy - quickly invent or discover new tech - beat up on the new bad guy cycle that he used a bit to much and too quickly in some of his books. It is still very much part of his books and that is the way it should be. It is just not as excessive as in some of his books.

All in all this was another enjoyable read from Saxon Andrews. As usual it was perhaps more for the younger audience and rather quick reading but, equally as usual, I enjoyed the book very much nonetheless.
