HUNTER SLAYER

Rate this book
Twenty-one-year-old country witch Violette Arnalds dreams of getting away from the family farm, which still holds the memories of her parent’s murder in its blood-stained soil. If she could stomach leaving her older brother behind in the wake of this tragedy, she’d join the magic-wielding Marshals that uphold the law. Violette’s days on the farm are numbered, but her future is not the one she’d hoped for… A giant stone Titan attacks her sleepy little town, and, with it, a world-renown hunter appears to oppose the massive monster. When it proves to be too much for even Levings Whitaker, the famous gun-slinging monster Hunter, Violette answers his call for help. This heroic act turns Violette’s life upside down. After the fallout from the destruction of the stone Titan, Violette is branded by the Courts as the one at fault for the monster and the only way out of this false accusation is to take on an apprenticeship with Whitaker, who has worked alone for nearly two decades. Ancient creatures across the world are being resurrected, leaving Whitaker and Violette to seek the sinister source. To clear her name and prove she is worthy enough to become a Marshal, Violette must make a perilous journey far from the only home she’s ever known.

Violette’s dream was to become a Marshal and vanquish monsters with her magiic. Her dreams appear to be within her reach but everything changes when stone giants create havoc with in her village. She throws caution to the wind and illegally attempts to use her magiic to save the village. On the heels of the stone giants enters Jennings Whittaker the hunter slayer. However this fight has lasting consequences that leave Violette with only one option to continue to pursue her dreams.

Overall, I really liked the interaction between Whittaker & Violette. Through out the novel they both grew a lot. Whittaker in trusting others and Violette in developing her skills and becoming a bad ass!

The novel was filled with mystical creatures, interesting settings and a lot of world building.

My biggest reason for giving it a 4.5 out of 5 was the pacing was slow in certain places.

Overall a solid read for lovers of adventure.
