The Bitter End

Rate this book
Bethany was born into a world of privilege and has never had to want for anything in her life. Her parents gave her everything but the one thing she desired the most...love. When Bethany’s mother dies, her Father becomes even more distant with the immediate replacement of Bethany’s mother by “Miko”, a woman who has no compassion nor interest in Bethany whatsoever.

On her own and living in a penthouse, a lavish gift from her father, Bethany ignores all responsibility as she lives on a weekly allowance her Father is sure to place into her bank account. With too much time on her hands, Bethany is free to pursue other interests such as a young man she never cared for in school named Ryan Blackwood. Ryan is a male escort for hire and has made his living on pleasuring the higher echelons of New York society women, but when he meets Bethany his game is shifted from one of hunter to one of prey and he will soon find out that she is not the easy target he once imagined.

Their torrid love affair is filled with a painful need to harm each other in every way, including the bedroom. Will Bethany finally receive the love she has always desired or will her lineage doom her forever?

“The Bitter End” is book one in the Golden Crown Series, filled with lust, greed, suspense and murder. Sometimes new beginnings lead only to bitter ends.

I was given an ARC of this amazing story by the author in exchange for an honest review. THANK YOU RUE! I also bought a copy of this AWESOMESAUCE installment to support the hard work of the author.

OMG! Where do I begin? The Bitter End is full of HAWT and NAUGHT, truely one of Rue Volley's BEST! I Loved it!

As the story began, it grabbed my attention from the beginning and kept me going until my eyes were seeing double. I Love it when a book does that to me. Full of deceit, betrayal, lust, power, money, and SEX..LOTS OF SEX! No one does erotic like Rue.

The characters are very well developed and seemed to drive the story in such a manor that you become one with them. I was pissed off at one of the characters as she just did not sit right with me. One of the LOVE to HATE characters. But she did bring reality to the story, because there is more than likely so much of this going on in our society, we just dont hear about it much.

The twists and turns OMG! the last one blew me out of the water... Bring it On! I want MORE of this series... It has to be made into a movie or series because this is SOOOO GOOD!

I highly recommend this first installment to any 18+ Reader out there who enjoys a STEAMY, GOOD Read!

One word comes to mind after reading this book and that’s Dark.
It was a very dark book with lots of twist and turns. F**ked up character’s I don’t think there was a normal person in this story. But you know what I enjoyed it and Rue’s writing style is awesome she doesn’t hold back on anything from the swearing to the sex and there is some pretty messed up sex going on in this book but hey I’m not complaining.
You have really strong characters who are writing brilliantly you find yourself having a love and hate thing going on with all the character’s as they are all messed up as each other. You are left wanting Ryan and Bethany to be happy and at times they seem to be but the old saying Money can buy you anything comes to play a lot in this book.
Bethany’s problems all stem from her father he is a big time asshole and Bethany knows she has to play along to keep her in the lifestyle she leads. OH but the hatred she feels for him comes across the pages so well. She is like her father in so many ways especially at the end of the book. And I really get why she ends up the way she does and the love I only see from her is for her brothers.
Rue is good at writing complex characters which keep you hooked from the first page till the last so
if you love messed up dark characters with some hot sex thrown in then this is the book for you I can’t wait to see what happens next for Bethany.

how about a rating of stars times infinity...5 stars isn't a high enough rating for this story!

as someone who has read everything rue volley has written from the YA to her naughtiest erotica, let me say this book is/was an adventure.

SO, SO, SO, SO GOOD!

and in true rue fashion, she leaves you begging for more (or maybe it is just me) ;)

you want a book that will leave you dumbfounded with the twist, yet satisfied with the naughty, then this is the right book.

i truly can't say enough about this book, and the fact that i NEED, not want, need to know what happens next!

The Bitter End is a totally wicked-ass, mind shattering and twisted hot read. Rue Volley is a wordsmith Goddess. Her character Bethany, is the kind of character that you end up being able to sympathize with, even though she is one tough chick. Ryan is one who comes across so cold, but you love his arrogant ways. These two pair off together and it makes for a bad-ass story of lust, power and control, with awesome twists. Excellent read and would recommend highly.

OK UMMM HOT!! hahah Thanks Rue for sending this over too me it really made me feel good after reading is that bad??!! I guess you all need too read!

Review:

Bethany is one messed up check if you ask me. She comes form money and I mean lots of it. She has never wanted for anything but she has never gotten the one thing she has needed and that’s LOVE. After her mother dies thing only get worse for her. Now life is moving one but nothing is good, and now she is mixed up with the one boy, Ryan, she never looked twice at back in school or when his mother came to clean there house years ago she was too good for him then too. But now they are a match made in hell and her messed up life is only going to get worse.

Ok so how do I explain this one………Let me think…..IT WAS REMARKABLE!!! I loved how Rue had me wanting more the whole time form page one to the end! Bethany was for sure one messed up chick but I loved her and I am not sure if that makes me a messed up chick too but let me say who cares! I really enjoyed each character in this one even the evil stepmother she was just writhen so well it just made you love/hate her!!

You are going to get a lot of emotion in this story and you might just feel a little used in the end but let me say you will understand once you read this amazing work from Rue Volley why it’s a must read. You will never want to put it down because each page brings new twists.

For ADULTS only: there is a lot of strong sex senses and characters coping with self destructive problems from past and present.

OMG, This is one of the best Rue Volley Stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading! If you are expecting a paranormal erotica, don't! This tale is all too human, and full of family drama and sex... lots and lots of hot HAWT sex! But it's really the characters that drive the story. It is so worth your money and a definite must read! Now for the Spoiler Alert.... Don't go any further if you don't want to know! :D

I was hooked from the minute Bethany opened the trunk! I had to read on to see how this had all come about, and I was not disappointed! Bethany is a rich, and spoiled socialite. She doesn't like herself much, and she hates her father who has recently married Miko, a gold digging woman who plans to give Bethany's father exactly what he wants...a son.
Bethany's best friend Holland is her go to gal for everything, sex, friendship, partying, but when Ryan walks in the door she can't stop thinking about him. Lots of Drama, Lots of sex, a little murder among the Elite...what more could you ask for?!! Definitely give this one 5 stars, I'd give more if they would allow it! I am so looking forward to book 2, Twin Dragons! Now, go buy this one! You won't regret it! :D

Let me start with this; This book isn't for the easily offended, faint of heart, or "clutch my pearls" type. This IS for those who like the dark, taboo, spicy books.

With that said, this isn't even close to the ... darkest or dirtiest I've ever read, but it was definitely full of spice and sex.
It's a shorter book that packs a punch with lots of sex and fun banter.
Well worth the read.

May have spoilers!

I don't even know what to say about this book. The characters in it are so fucked up and have absolutely no morals or no conscience. They screw each other over(figuratively and literally). I was mostly either pissed at them or disgusted at their actions the whole time while reading this book.

I didn't connect with any of the characters partly because of the writing and partly because none of them had any redeemable qualities. Bethany changed a bit by the ending because she actually cared for something more than her status and fathers money.... and that was Ryan. Ryan the piece of shit never changed at all and though he supposedly cared for and "loved" Bethany by the end I didn't feel it or see it. He was nothing but a man-whore and cheated on Bethany constantly... yeah it was his job in the beginning since he was an escort... but once he and Bethany became a "thing" he still did it behind her back.

He even fucks Bethany's best friend in THEIR bed while Bethany is in the shower... ugh, they both disgusted me and I could care less that her best friend was killed.

Not one character knew the meaning of the word loyalty in this book, it was to each his own. He was selfish and only looked out for his own ass... always, and that proved itself by the end. I also never really understood why Bethany even married his ass... I guess in the end it was still all about appearances, power, and money.... and here I thought Bethany had turned over a new leaf and all that jazz, so I was a little disappointed.

It was definitely considered a darker read and I can say the ending surprised me because I didn't see it coming, but the rest of the book was just okay for me.

****EROTICA BOOK CLUB REVIEW*****

THE BITTER END (Golden crown series #1)

By Rue Volley

Release date 1st June 2013

Bethany is a spoilt bitch and her father is beyond rich but she can never forgive him for all the times he cheated on her mother which she feels led to her mothers suicide. Bethany is screwed up and her "friend with benefits" Holland seems to be the only thing in her life that trusts.
Bethany has known Ryan since they were young when his mother used to clean her house, they seem to hate each other but embark on a torrid sexual relationship and enjoy doing things to physically hurt each other.

This is an adult only book that is full of f/f and m/f sex, drama and with some violence too. Saying that I really liked it and enjoyed reading it. There is a few twists I wasn't expecting but comes together to form a really great written story which is quite dark too.

It takes your ordinary erotica books to a new level and this is the first book that I have read that has went this far sexually with a bit of sadism, it goes beyond spanking and whipping. I think it will encourage me to start reading more darker books.

The sex scenes are so hot you will need to lay in a bath of ice cubes.
It is also great that it stands out from all the other romance novels out there.

I really hope there is more books to this series because I will defiantly reading them.

Big thanks to Rue Valley for allowing me to read and review an ARC of The Bitter End and I will look forward to reading more of your books in the near future.

I am giving it 5 stars for Amazon and 4 stars for Goodreads

What can one say when they read any of Ms. Volley’s books but that she has created another masterpiece for her fans to follow. This story is no exception to the rules with her.
Beth is blessed with the financial stability she can have from her father. But she hates him for all he is and all he has become thanks to the way he treated her mother and how she just doesn’t rank in his book as being the heir to his empire. Owning ½ of NYC as a lawyer, her father has married the gold digging, unlikeable Miko and she is one that Beth can’t stand but could possibly give her father what he wants the most. Ryan is a playboy in all areas. But there is a pull between him and Beth that she can’t grasp. It’s the love and hate fine line some of us experience. Holland is the best friend any girl could want and that is what she is to Beth. To keep everything that is due to Beth from her father other than the love he never gave, will Beth go to drastic measures to ensure she is a part of the lifestyle she has been so blessed to have? This is a story that you will find has a massive twist in the end that will only leave you wanting more.

This story is not what you would expect when reading erotica. The author gave this book so much more. When I started to read I thought "sex, sex and more sex." I was so surprised as the story formed into a dark deep secret. Lies, deceit, hate, rage, love, pain, any emotion you can think of was a part of this story line. Great characters were brought together in the most unusual ways. Take one cold hearted bitch and one man whore and what do you get? Hot, erotic, no strings attached, rough sex! Causing me to tingle all over. Plenty of mind blowing hot sex scenes and a great ending twist, I did not see coming, makes this book worthy of reading. It's like an Erotic / Suspense / Emotional rollercoaster ride. I will be reading more of Rue's work. I love it.

****4.5 STARS****

The Bitter End is NOT a stand-alone book. This is the first book of the Golden Crown trilogy. It is a dark, gritty, erotic, suspenseful tale that will leave your mind utterly warped when you are finished reading the entire series. Once you start reading you wont be abe to stop until you read the entire series (and you will) no matter how disturbing this series becomes. It is full of twists and turns, secrets, deceit, betrayal, loyalty, tragedy, murder, revenge, sex, lies, and full of suspense that will keep you guessing and reading until the very bitter end. You will have a love/hate relationship with the two main characters Beth Bittermend (Bethany)and Ryan "Endless" Blackwood. She is a rich bitch who comes from alot of money. She can have anything she wants except the love of her father. He can't accept that she is a female and he never got his male "heir" to his throne. He is an evil man, the devil incarnate. She blames him for the death (suicide)of her mother since he was never faithful to her. His new wife Miko is the most evil bitch and the spawn of satan herself. Ryan is the ultimate man-whore (you will probably NEVER read another one like him). He is an evil snake who is never and can never be faithful. Beth has known him since they were children and attended the same school. Ryan came from nothing so Beth always thought of him as trash and beneath her. He was a male prostitute and slept with alot of New York's upper class to get to the top of society.

The apartment he has, the cars...the clothing, hair. It is all paid for with his dick. He may look incredibly delicious but my assessment of him being a manwhore is dead on and everyone knows it.

When the announcement is made that Miko is pregnant with an "heir" Beth is devastated and knowing that she will never have the love of her father she turns to Ryan. Beth can't stand how Ryan got to the top but he pursues her relentlessly to achieve his ultimate trophy. Beth ends up with Ryan as revenge towards her father since he hates Ryan. She does the one thing she has no intention of doing and that is falling in love with Ryan. He is her addiction and drug. They have a very volatile relationship that is doomed from the start. She knew this and told herself not to get involved with him due to his sexual past. They live to torment each other. He ends up breaking her heart and then betraying her in the most unforgivable way thus ending any love she had for him.

Ryan spent his life with a tongue to a random clit in one form or another and knowing this I should not be shocked he strayed. But it is me, the one who took him as he was and not as the playboy he pretended to be making his way through the upper level of New York society girls. I guess I was just a target too but he had no idea I was as ruthless as he was or as brutal in the bedroom, so here we are...

Well, Beth's father does get his "heir" actually two "heirs". Miko gives birth to twin boys. Beth really doesnt like the situation but she does love the boys and wants to be a part of their lives.
The Twin Dragons is the second book and the saga continues with Cas & August along with Beth and Ryan and some new characters. The entire series spans around 19 years.

I honesty enjoyed reading this dark series. There were times I had to stop reading for a second and try to wrap my mind around the story and the characters. Each book gets darker and more intriguing. If you are offended by cheating, same sex couples, some bondage, and multiple sexual parners then this may not be the series for you as it is dark but I feel it only added to the dark eroctic nature of the series. It is only fiction and is only a book so therefore I am not offended by it.

Wow, did not see that, or that, or that coming!

This book starts out with an explosive event from near the end of the book, and then backtracks to the start to let you know how things got to where they ended.
The story starts out with Bethany Bittermend (very appropriate name) a spoiled rich girl that has everything that money can buy & then some, everything but her fathers love or approval. Beth's daddy Thomas Bittermend wanted a boy and heir, and having a vagina put Beth firmly out of heir status. Beth's father is cold, distant, and had no problem "doing" the help, no matter who saw or knew. All of this was too much for Beth's mother, and her death and prompt replacement with a woman Beth's age does nothing to help her relationship with her Father. The only person Beth has or trusts is her Best Friend (with benefits) Holland. Until, Ryan Blackwood enters her life. Ryan is an attractive walking hard-on/man whore, who has his fair share of emotional trauma and issues.
This is a very dark and violent story of money, greed, lust, lies, sex, and murder (and no this is not a spoiler). The characters are down right unlikable with little redeeming qualities. You know from the beginning, and well the name of the book, that things are probably not going to end well, but I still found myself hoping differently.
There was so many plot twists and turns that I didn't see coming, and a few that I had my suspicions about. It was a fast paced story and I wanted to know what can possibly happen next. The sex is not even close to mainstream and down right violent at times. I personally didn't find this aspect a turn on and kinda cringed when they came (no pun intended.) Beth and Ryan do everything possible to hurt each other, emotionally and physically, especially when feelings neither wanted to have come into play.
My one complaint for the book was the editing. At times (especially in the beginning) the writing was confusing and difficult to follow. I had a hard time with what was happening, the timeline of things, or even who was talking. I found myself having to re-read sentences and paragraphs because I was confused on what was going on.
Even with this, I was still intrigued enough to stick with it, and find out what messed up thing was going to happen next.
The ending I never expected and I am curious to see what will happen in the next book.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

For the love of money is the root of all evil, not usually big on the bible but thats where the quote comes from and to me it sums this book up pretty much perfectly. I had some preconceived ideas going into this book and honestly wasn't totally sure I was gonna like it. I certainly didn't realise just how much I was gonna love it. This is a dark book, its certainly not hearts and flowers but if you read the blurb then you kinda know not to expect that anyway. Almost from the first sentence the book had me gripped and I couldn't put it down, it was almost a race to the end so I could see what happened and how it all played out. I love the writing style, it takes something extra to portray so many messed up people so well that I actually almost felt at times as though as I was there and witnessing the events that took place. The characters are something else, each more messed up than the other but not one was done in such a way that I felt wasn't believable, and as much as they were all evil as all get out there were also profound moments that allowed you a slightly deeper to realise that everything may not always be as is seems. Bethany and Ryan have an extremely complicated relationship that has a lot more to be unearthed, it may begin as a somewhat mutually beneficial arrangement but doesn't really stay that way. The author obviously has an immense talent at not only writing descriptive and provocative scenes but also keeping you on your toes and guessing without overwhelming you or letting the storyline run riot. I was originally going to give this book four stars until I realised that I couldn't stop thinking about it and needed to write my review so I could dive into the next one and see what happens next. This book will mess with your head in the best possible way and leaving you wanting more, definitely an explosive start to the series.

I love reading books that I didn't think were my type to read...

This is my first Rue Volley book & it blew my mind. It was dark & erotic..I thought I needed a xanax to get through it. It's been a while since I've read a book like this one. There are plenty of twists, turns & dysfunction to go around.

Description:

You really don't want to miss out on this book. I'm so glad that I took a chance. You should too, you won't be disappointed!!!

Talk about a sordid love affair!

This book is full of lies, deceit, greed, twists and turns!!
I’ve never read of a female character quite like Beth. To say she is a spoiled witch would be an understatement. Born into money and power, Beth has never wanted for any material thing her entire life. However, she has longed for the less tangible things like love, comfort and attention for so long that those needs have been replaced with a deeply ingrained bitterness. Her father is the epitome of the power hungry, egotistical, chauvinistic pig. Her entire life he was emotionally absent, both unavailable to Beth and her mother which led to her mother’s early death.
The only good thing in Beth’s life is her friend with benefits, Holland. They have been friends their whole lives. And Holland is the only person Beth has an inkling of feelings toward. Until she meets Ryan ”Endless”. Ryan is “from the other side of the tracks”. He doesn’t come from money. In fact, Ryan makes his money by using his good looks and insatiable sex drive to whore himself out to New York’s elite.
Ryan and Beth embark on a dark and twisted love affair. Their hate for each other fuels the passion they share. They share the same sadistic sexual appetite….which makes for some scenes which I’ve never reads the likes of.
The lies and deceit fueled by greed and power turn this story into a fast paced adventure.
There are points at which the story is hard to follow. The time gaps sometimes are not specified and you can find yourself getting lost or confused at times. I caught myself re-reading certain parts several times to make sure that I was following correctly.
Overall the story was a surprise, even though it was a little on the dark side.
I definitely never saw the ending coming!

For all you readers wondering whether or not you should read this series—
My answer is ABSOLUTELY.

Don’t get me wrong, the read is a torment that you should only inflict if you are mentally balanced enough to cope with the WILD and twisted tale you are presented with. I had the luck of having all three books in my reading list before I began—and let me tell you I was glad I did. By the first book I was hooked, shocked and left dazed, by the second I was broken, haunted and emotionally distraught and the final book brought it all to a head and slammed the nails into my coffin – yes this series killed a little piece of me.

Okay, so that sounds exaggerated and way over the top for three simple little books…
…Erm—No.
Rue out did herself with this series.

This is the story of the impossibly wealthy and already ruined Beth. Heiress to a fortune and treated like a ghost by a father who seems solely intent on having a male heir. Beth exists in an emotionally damaged world and Ryan’s re-appearance in her life threatens to either save her from herself or take her further into desolation. Without ruining the plot readers should be ready for a complexly woven and twisted tale of love, lust, money and loss.
The story is told primary from both Beth and Ryan’s perspectives and is presented in a casual, colloquial and familiar conversational style. With some serious subject matter - which is honestly handled - and some extreme sexual references/practice it is not for the faint-of-heart.
I deeply enjoyed reading this and found that I had consumed the story within a couple of hours. Thankfully I had the sequel to hand and began and finished that too - all in the one sitting… they were that good.

My review for: The Bitter End by Rue Volley
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Shanna Roberson

I know I say this every damn time when it comes to Rue’s books, but holy hellfire, the Bitter End is one of her best ones yet! Darkly twisted and extremely hot, Rue Volley’s tale of the seductive power of wealth and the ugliness of it never being enough will knock your socks off.

Bethany Bittermend had it all. The penthouse apartment, the money, the hired help and the leisure of never having to want for nothing, but her father’s love. That was something no amount of money or time could truly buy. With her mother dead and her father’s new trophy wife, Miko at the top of her shit list, odds are that isn’t going to happen any time soon if ever.

Not that she cared. Really, she didn’t. She spends her days enjoying her best friend’s bed and torturing ‘the good for nothing but screwing’ Ryan Blackwell. But when the tables turn and some of her walls begin to crack, will she finally let herself care for someone else? Especially when that someone makes a living from seducing women? Or will Ryan have finally found his match in Beth?

Favorite line: “Sometimes the scariest things are the most beautiful things you have ever seen. You just have to believe that it won’t hurt you.”

What a dirty, brutally honest and smoldering hot trip this was! It never ceases to amaze me the level of depth that Rue Volley can mix with the naughtiest of storylines. If you are looking for a dark and unpredictable erotic roller coaster...The Bitter End will take hold of you and never let go! Can’t wait for book two!

The Bitter End is book one in the Golden Crown trilogy by Rue Volley, it starts as it means to go on I think as it starts right in the thick of things which is great, I love a good story that has me confused and questioning the plot development from the first paragraph. Beth's character development is a long and difficult process as she seems to be a very privileged young woman who is insensitive to anyone not of her standard and not of her wealth, she thinks she can pay people off because of her wealth and she has no empathy. However Beth seems to be an angry young woman who craves love and genuine affection from her family and the people around her. The way in which this book is written seems a little all over the place at first but the writer gets a better hold on this as the book and the rest of the trilogy goes on, I honestly thought the first dream it tells you about was happening until it said otherwise. Other than that I actually really like Rue Volley's writing style as it is constant guess work and keeps you on your toes in respect of how she's going to write the next scene, she makes reference to a few taboo subjects within today's society but the way in which it is written is wonderful and had me gasping out loud and loving and hating the scene at the same time. The twist towards the end of the book is fantastic and I personally didn't see it coming, from just reading this first book I can tell the rest of the trilogy will be just as bitter, twisted and full of hatred as this book was and now I've finished it I can see exactly why it was written this way. 4.5 Stars!!

Seductively dark life of an extremely wealthy young woman of NYC. You would think she had it all with her endless cash flow, great apartment, with a staff included, and not to mention a sex life to die for. Still some thing ate at her from the inside out and it was going to destroy her and everyone around her.
Beth is a complex creature with a need for love that she rarely experienced in her life but craved it. She was however, familiar with pain both physical and emotional which she freely expressed in all aspects of her life including and especially during sex. Ryan who was her hot Boyfriend/ toy was at the receiving end of her rage. Her best friend with benefits Holland, that she knew since childhood, was the only one that she was kind too by Beth's standards that is.

I will have to say this girl was on my nerves at first with her total disregard for others treating them like they where dirt beneath her shoes. Then as I read on and the story really started to unfold I start to understand what made her tick. The things she had to endure as a child was beyond belief and the fact she made it to adulthood without having some sort of breakdown is something I can't comprehend. Meanwhile, the betrayal becomes more sinister and deceit is like salt being thrown into to old wounds that cause an unexpected turn of events to unravel that will blow your mind
