A.S. Thompson

6 books17 followers
A.S. Thompson is a southern California native with a wild card personality! He has worked in a variety of fields, lived in different area codes and in recent years added to the literary world.

His first book "The Longest Road" was an adaptation from a screen play written during college that has since seen two sequels. Arguably coming into his own in "The Change," Thompson's growing style has taken survival horror to new heights. "The Other Side," the daring finale of the series, expands on previous themes of unpredictability and uncertainty, culminating in a grand conclusion of epic fashion.

While his debut novels are post-apocalyptic/zombie by nature, critics and fans have praised the series and described it as a complex, beautiful tragedy and a gripping story about family, endurance, love and loss.

Fortunate to entertain the zombie-loving masses, Thompson does have plans to deviate from the genre with future projects in the action and sci-fi realms.

When he is not sitting behind a computer, Thompson enjoys his favorite pastime: traveling. Whether visiting foreign countries, trying new foods or talking it up with locals, Thompson views touring the world as an unreal experience. In addition, he is a huge fan of movies and live music, and many times paparazzi have captured him frequenting new releases and local shows.

In all aspects of his life, Thompson seeks originality; that new sound or idea that is going to set himself apart. The Longest Road and sequels were created out of his love for the horror genre. To him, there's nothing like the suspense and thrill of reading a horror novel or watching a scary movie...the heart pounding, the spine tingling, and that part in the back of your head that wonders what will happen next...

I came across The Longest Road by accident but was instantly hooked. I finished the book in 2 days and could not wait for book 2. It came out and I bought right away. You see the love of the family of survivors and you really feel for them. There are scary parts, funny parts, and sad parts. It brought me to tears at times. You start to really have feelings for the survivors. Now comes the long wait for book 3. I can't wait to see what happens.
These are great zombie books. I highly recommend them. The author pulls you in and won't let you down.

Very rarely is a second book in a series superior to the first, but A.S. Thompson’s The Change is among those few books that surpass the first story in the series. I absolutely loved the first book, The Longest Road, and I was a little hesitant about picking up the second book because I didn’t want my love of the first book to be tainted by an inferior sequel. However, after reading the first chapter, I knew that The Change was something special.

This gem of a zombie book took the story to the next level. Much like The Walking Dead, none of the characters are safe in this book. I found myself biting my nails and gritting my teeth, never knowing if my favorite characters would survive another page. It makes it difficult to stop reading this book!

The Change picks up where the first book left off, but the reader gets to find out how the zombie virus (known as Trinity) was unleashed all over the world. I don’t want to give anything away, so I won’t go into detail, but I will say that I really enjoyed learning about how the virus was spread.

If you read The Longest Road, you know that A.S. Thompson has a great sense of humor. His jokes still grace the pages of The Change, but they aren’t as frequent as they are in the first book. The story is definitely darker and more serious in the second book, but it was nice that Thompson’s jokes would pop up here and there. I enjoy a good laugh between all the death, destruction, and gore.

While there are some exciting zombie-fight scenes, this book focuses more on the survivors’ interaction with each other than with zombies. I have always liked zombie stories that are about relationships and survival. It’s interesting to read about how survivors will interact with one another after the world goes to hell. Some people band together, while others take advantage of trusting souls and try to tear them down. I’m going to avoid spoilers here, but I will say that there is a villain in this book that is so vile that I found myself clenching my Kindle, wanting to throw it across the room. I was able to get control of myself though, so my e-reader is still intact. Even if you’re not a zombie fan, I highly recommend that you read this book. What am I talking about? Everyone likes zombies, so I highly recommend that you read The Longest Road and The Change.

Loved it!!! Picks up where the first book left off only this book ups the level of suspense, action and thrills. New and interesting characters are introduced. Through the story you will come to love and hate these new characters. The old characters you came to love in the first novel are also there. I really like that there is some of the back story of where the plague came from. I also like how wide open the book ends leaving room for much more of the tale to tell. What also makes this book so interesting is not just the zombie aspect but human nature and what we are capable of both good and bad. Through the story heros and villains emerge and keep the action fast paced, dynamic and deep. I highly recommend this 2nd book in The Longest Road series. I can't wait for the 3rd one!

I love the world he has painted six months later and not just because I have a LMOE fantasy dating back to the early 70's. A. S. has created a masterpiece in the genre and I feel like I should know as I've been stuck on zombie apocalypse tales for nigh on six years now. I was about ready to call it quits too until I picked up the Longest Road. In a genre flooded with middling authors, A. S. stands out to me as one of the best. I would even say he ranks right up there with his contemporaries Max Brooks and Robert Kirkman.

This is book two in a series, but I think it can work as a stand alone. Well... accept the ending. I must have the third book... now... Because I need to know if A.S. Thompson will let any of his characters survive. Seriously, can at least one character make it?
