The Songs of Dominance were released as an experiment. They were traded peer-to-peer on the Goodreads group, CD Canaries, and on my Facebook page.
But the stories have become canonical, and things are revealed here that will be come important later, so I feel they need to reach a larger audience.
Please read these after Submit, or you're going to run into major spoilers. It's best if you read before Control, but not a big deal if you read Control first.

About the author

C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

★★★★★! JESSICA & SHARON, part 3.5 of 7. A priceless glimpse into the enigma that is playboy & mogul Jonathan Drazen!

“There were too many fires to put out. Too many pieces to move across the chessboard.”

Songs of Submission is the whirlwind saga of aspiring singer Monica Faulkner and hotelier and real estate magnate Jonathan Drazen. Books/novellas should be read in order:
Book 1: Beg
Book 2: Tease
Book 3: Submit
Book 3.5: Jessica & Sharon
Book 4: Control
Book 5: Burn
Book 5.5: Rachel
Book 6: Resist
Book 7: Sing
Book 7.5: Monica
Book 8: Dominance
Book 9: Coda
Book 10: Breath

Jessica and Sharon, part 3.5 is two brief novellas that should be read after Submit. They are told from Jonathan’s POV a provides a rare glimpse into his past and present and most importantly his mind. You will meet two women whose lives he had an impact on and vice versa.

It gave me a better understanding of how complex Jonathan is and why for most parts he remains an enigma. There are also some shocking revelations, some surprising conclusions and hints into trouble brewing ahead. In my opinion, a must read to get the full experience of the series!

The world through Jonathan Drazen's eyes.

This is a little gem of a novella.... in CD's words, '...things are revealed here that will become important later." It's offered as an optional read but in my opinion it is a MUST read.....

"I knew she was special the night I met her, I just didn't know how special."

"I could pass a lot of time with her." He say's the most beautiful things

Please do NOT miss the opportunity to glimpse inside Jonathan's head... Find out what happened when he met Jessica and Sharon..... Fill in the gaps for yourself...

Inside Jonathan's head is a wonderful place to be..... just saying...

I want to give this one five stars...because it's my favorite so far....I LOVE being inside the male's head. This super short story takes place directly after Tease, but I believe is supposed to be read after the first "sequence" ending with Submit

There are two small parts to this little ditty. The first is what happens when Jonathan goes to Jessica's house after the art show, and the events that lead to a HUGE revelation for him. I was over the MOON reading about his come to Jesus moment in which he realizes how much stronger his feeling are for Monica than Jessica. He had just been holding on to something that he thought he had to.

The second part is when he goes to talk to his subbie on the side, Sharon. This blip of time is yet another brick in Jonathan's burgeoning feelings for Monica, and a phone call from a certain bar manager leads to another little revelation that made me giddy with happiness. I'm dancing in my chair right now, folks! I loved this shortie right here. LOVED IT! My FAVORITE so far. In fact, FIVE STARS from me.

The 2 sides of Jonathan...Respectable and Kinky!!

 photo jonathan2_zps99a7ad61.jpg

It reveals how he dealt with 2 scenes from Submit. It's FABULOUS to see his perspective and how he deals with complicated situations. It was short and sweet and to me, very insightful to the man called Jonathan Drazen.

The BR continues.....so excited to be starting Sequence 2 (to be honest, I'm already at 12% of Control and am doing the freaking happy dance)

Seeing the world through Jonathan's eyes was an absolute treat!

(Warning: This review contains spoilers if you haven't read the first three books in the Songs of Submission series - Beg, Tease, & Submit)

Novellas like this are proof of a writer's commitment to their audience. We could have been left with the cryptic and vaguely unsatisfying story which Monica heard... But instead we were treated to the inside of Jonathan Drazen's head - Thank you C.D. Reiss!

JONATHAN DRAZEN
I knew she was special the night I met her, I just didn't know how special.
Going into the third book in the Songs of Submission series, Jonathan Drazen had a lot to answer for. Monica was told some particularly shocking information about Jonathan's activities after he dropped her off following the disastrous Eclipse show. Monica was left re-thinking her entire relationship (for lack of a better word) with the man-whore lover whose touch she was beginning to crave...

This Novella is a combination of two books in the Songs of Dominance Duo:

Jessica (Songs of Dominance, #1) by C.D. Reiss
Songs of Dominance 1 - JESSICA
Jessica had to be my choice. I'd taken a vow, begged for it to be honored, and waited so long that turning away from the possibility of a reunion seemed ludicrous.
This book picks up the story line right as Jonathan drops of Monica after Eclipse. We get the entire story of what went down with his ex-wife, all the unsettling details. Because this story was told from Jonathan's POV, we had the opportunity to discover the extent of the scars caused by his ex-wife, and a better understanding of his emotional state and motives regarding all his relationships to date...

Sharon (Songs of Dominance #2) by C.D. Reiss
Songs of Dominance 2 - SHARON
When we first started screwing, she was a wreck from a string of abusive, boundary-free masters who beat or fucked her confidence away, and I was broken from Jessica's complete rejection of my needs. We were two complete disasters trying to teach each other the meaning of safe, sane, consensual kink.
All we knew about Sharon was what Johnathan had told Monica in Submit - That she was a submissive, who he topped occasionally, but he broke off their arrangement. This book tells the whole story - Who is Sharon? What exactly was her relationship with Jonathan? How and why did they end their partnership? This was incredibly satisfying because we had the opportunity to see more of how Jonathan became interested in kink, as well as the emergence of Jonathan's growing attachment to Monica... Absolutely lovely!

3.5 ★'s

All the novellas are contained in, book 8, Dominance. Make sure you read them in the order GRs has set up or you might miss something or get spoilers.

Jessica is, of course, Jonathan's ex wife and we get Jonathan's POV (thank goodness) regarding the scene after the art show when he went to her house.

It was better than I thought it would be although it broke my heart about him wanting to be normal.

Sharon's story, well...I don't want to spoil it for you but obviously, she is someone who is in Jonathan's life. I thought Jonathan handled things well. And again, I loved hearing his POV.

Wow! In Jonathan's head is a great place to be! I'll gladly take up residence there.....and in his bed! Woah!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

This is a quickie mini-nouvella that gives us a background into Jonathan and events that take place after the Eclipse art show that faithful night he simply dropped Monica off at home. Did he go home to prepare for his trip to San Francisco or did he "make a stop?"

We get background to his changing feelings with Jessica, his ah-ha moment in their failed marriage, and decisions he makes where Monica is concerned. The entire series is in Monica's POV so this was nice to get his perspective. He's straight forward with Monica, which is refreshing, but the thoughts he doesn't share verbally in the other books were spell-binding! Loved this book! Love this man! Gah!

No quotes here....no spoilers. This book is meant to be read AFTER Submit as it contains spoilers to some events that take place prior.

"Well, honestly, this is the last time I'm coming running. I'm done. And I'm sorry I had my foot in your yard for so long."

Jonathan also gives us perspective on what happened between him and Sharon.

The Songs of Submission is a mini-series told in seven parts with an additional 2 'novellas'. Part 2 has Monica and Jonathan facing their exes.

4 Stars!!!

This one was really short but NECESSARY!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that we got Jonathan's POV in this one!!
It was much needed!!!
We learn what happened the after the art exhibit between Jonathan and Jessica.
Let's just say he's not completely innocent and Jessica is definitely an evil bitch but she wasn't completely lying to Monica either.
She's definitely not for Jonathan and I think he's starting to realize this.

Also we get inside Jonathan's head and learn how he was instantly drawn to Monica.

I knew she was special the night I met her, I just didn't know how special. - Jonathan

Jonathan might be thinking Monica is intoxicating and that he won't fall in love with her, but I really think he's clueless. It's obvious he's in deep with her.
She is his perfect match.

She obeyed not just with her mouth, but her heart. Her face got red and she cast her eyes down. Her fingers twitched, but didn't move otherwise. Holy fuck. I almost lost my breath. This gorgeous, proud creature was submissive. - Jonathan

In this novella, Jonathan is off to call things off with his side action, Sharon.
His little submissive in San Francisco.
Their relationship was never serious but has been ongoing and they both helped each other in their time of need.

I really enjoyed this one and loved that it was all about Jonathan!!!

My only complaint to this short novella, was that it was way too short! I loved getting a brief glimpse into Jonathon's mind and how he is feeling about the situation with Monica. It was also a nice eye opener as to what happened when he went to his ex-wife's place after his and Monica had made the agreement to be monogamous.

Jonathon also goes to tell the lady named Sharon, that he is finished with her as well. We get a tease of what lead him into his acceptance of his Dominant personality. Sharon was a big part of Jonathon finally not being ashamed of the "kinky" desires he has.
This novella also gave us a peak into the kind of woman Sharon was, and if I have to be honest; I felt kind of sorry for her. I certainly hope that in the future we might get to see more of her, and possibly some kind of HEA for her. She just seems so fragile and lonely to me.

Even though this was a very fast read, I felt fulfilled by it.I enjoyed having more understanding of Jonathon as a person, and a glimpse into his past was valuable into seeing why he reacts the way he does towards commitment and his relationship with Monica.
I look forward to seeing what the next three novellas bring to us, and how Monica and Jonathon's relationship develops the further we go on.
This is for sure a story that you would want to read after the first sequence 1 is complete. Otherwise you may run into some spoilers, and there would be a lack of understanding of what is going on. I look forward to having some more of Jonathon's POV in future books as well!

***3 Stars***

I'm so into this story that even though I'm not a believer of the .5's books in any series, I figured, if I'm doing this I might as well do it right and read all the books. Well my theory proves me right once again because I really didn't care too much for this one. What it is, is the re-telling of the scene after the art gala when Jonathan drops off Monica and goes to meet with Jessica, but told from his POV, and then he goes to San Francisco and meets with Sharon and we learn a little bit about her. While is was great to get inside Jonathan's head for a bit, I didn't care too much to read about his experiences with other women, probably because I'm too invested in his relationship with Monica. It was still interesting I must say but not my favorite...

I really enjoyed these two short stories from Jonathan's POV. It starts out with when Jonathan first met Monica & lets us know what he was thinking. The stories of Jessica and Sharon give us more insight into some scenes from a previous book.

-I knew she was special the night I met her, I just didn't know how special.

-"She took my breath away.

C.D Reiss? I just want to say that you are fan-fucking-tastic!!

Getting into Jonathan's head was AMAZING.

I lov hearing his voice and it was just a joy for some clarity! I liked how he handled Jess (who I hate with a blazing passion!)

Seriously, I can't stand woman who want to take away half of a man's masculinity. She must not know how adventurous and how fucking sexy it is to have a real man dominate *wipes drool* I mean, dangit how stupid can Jessica get...denying Jonathon like that??

I had a sweet smile when I realize Jonathan bought that piece - I suspected he did, because that's just how he roll...but seeing it varify? Golden <3

Stupid of her to think pleasing her man isn't satisfaction in itself.

I actually like sharon~~!! haha

Oooiooo!!! Jonathan's amazing. I've read few books in male P.O.Vs that made me feel like I was a guy - took me completely in their head and see things threw their eyes.

I'm proud to say, this story did just that!

I just loooooooove revelations!

Spoilers

So happy to find out what really happened when Jonathan went to Jessica's house.

I suspected that Jonathan did buy Kevin's whole Monica installation so that was cool to get confirmation that I was right.

I loved getting Jonathan's POV. It's sometimes hard to get a read on him outside the sex scenes and these went a long way of showing some of his feelings! Excellently done...again in so few pages.

"I knew she was special the night I met her, I just didn't know how special."

"She saw me looking, and she stood with her hands on her hips, daring me to get an eyeful. No fear. She filled that fucking room. She took my breath away. I was too stunned to even ask her out."

"Beautiful goddess, when I get back, you are mine."

A short novella, which is told from Jonathan’s POV and gives us his view on what happened at his ex-wife’s place after his first date with Monica and also a brief glimpse into his casual relationship with his part-time submissive, Sharon.

I disliked Jessica, his ex-wife a lot. She’s such a cold and manipulative woman and am so happy that Jonathan finally sees what she’s really like.

We get a bit of his life as a dominant and the part that Sharon played in his life. I really felt for Sharon – she’s such a sad, fragile and lonely character and I would love to get more on her in the future.

I am really getting a better understanding about Jonathan’s character and I am looking forward to finding out more about his past history.

I am looking forward to how he will handle his relationship with Monica, who he’s becoming so attached to.

What a nice surprise hearing Jonathan's POV. He really does have a lovely voice. This "song" provides much needed clarity and affirmation that Jonathan wants Monica and needs her, perhaps more so than she needs him. She is his perfect sub, whether he wants to admit it or not. But he also respects her and her talent, and loves her laughter and her company. There's so much packed into just a few pages. This Song of Dominance is not optional as the author states, this is Mandatory reading or "singing." Enjoy!
