I've always been a fighter, Even before I knew it was in my blood. I fought the demons of my past. I fought for my life. I fought for the future I wanted.
Growing up in a foster home, after my father killed my mother, I fought for who I was, Who I could become.
And now, it's what I do, what I am. My career is in the ring, taking down every opponent I face, Every enemy who threatens me. I fight.
But now, I've got the biggest fight of my life, Fighting for her, the one I want, The one I can't have.
Salem Harris is taken, but I swear to God, She'll be mine, even if I go down for the count, I'll fight like Hell for her, Or die trying.
Born and raised in Western Massachusetts, Christa is a sucker for young love and happy endings—of all varieties. Her first book, Broken, was written as a tribute to the man she met and fell in love with at the young age of sixteen. Fast forward twenty-something years, they’re still going strong and navigating through life with three children, three dogs, and a lizard.
As a writer, Christa expresses what she knows about life, love and hardships through her characters, which is why they will always be relatable with real problems. As readers, you’ll be thrust into their world, feel their heartache, take on the obstacles life throws at them, and ultimately experience the elation of their happily ever after.
When she's not carting her kids around to numerous sporting events, you’ll find her writing, reading, wasting time on Facebook, or watching television shows like The Walking Dead, Shameless, Ink Master, or Vikings.
DNF Detailed scene of H with 2 OW( threesome), plus H is taking h home and he flirts with another OW-promising to do her another day and she even puts her hand into his pants and H gets hard!! He would have definitely banged her if he wasn't taking upset h home. h was upset bcos she was breaking up with her cheating ex. But H had a serious case of insta-lust for h. It was all a big mess...

Guys I tried, I really did. But this story seriously lacked punch and couldn't manage to grab my attention at all. At best, I was a tad emotionally wrung up when . It was so heartbreaking to witness since Gabriel had always put it upon himself to take care of Jase and then that unfolded. So heartbreaking! And then to see the aftermath of what became of lil bro in the end. Shame really. :'(
Other than that, I was doing this for almost the entire time I was reading:
BUT THEN the happened which not only woke me up but made me think of Gabriel as a womanizing pig. Ugh!
And in addition, his little hot and cold interactions with the Ice Queen herself, Salem!! *sighs* Them two together...I don't know.
Gah, to put in blankly... I was simply not feeling it PERIOD and wasn't going to wait a mere 25% to see it fluctuate even more down the ropes for me... So very sorry to any boxing romance junkies out there!
So in all respects....
*Reviewer's note: I don't expect anyone to agree with my feelings or assessments. If you happen to like this story then hey, great for you!! My review is my own personal opinion so if you don't like it then you don't have to read it! Hence, the 2 star rating and DNF at the very top of my review disclaimer. Thank you!*["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Review to come...still processing info. FYI I want to slap the taste out of Salem's mouth.
3 days later and I'm still not sure what to say but here goes...
We start with a tragedy in Gabe's young life...one that starts him on a path of destruction. But with the help of a judge and a boxing trainer he manages to turn his life around...then in walks Salem. Will she be his downfall or will she help him to be a better person than the one he was yesterday.
Although Gabe is working towards staying on the straight and narrow he still has ties to his past. Steamy sex scenes and the not so typical way that the author told this story is what kept me interested in a genre I rarely read unless it's dark and twisted things. I am def going to be reading Going The Distance very soon. If you are a fan of boxing, red heads, and a good sex scene or two I highly recommend the Down for the Count series.
DNF ...menage and f/f is a no freaking way and not going there for me. Disclaimers are not spoilers.I am left thinking that Saint is a dog and I'm so sick at my stomach.
ARC Provided by the author, "Christa Cervone" in exchange for an honest review (Thank you)
A heartbreaking account of two Brothers on a path of destruction, Gabriel was lucky enough that someone cared enough about him to intervene and set him on the right path, his brother Jase wasn't so lucky..
"I owe my life to Frankie."
Frankie runs a boxing programme for "at risk, kids..Gabriel has been with Frankie since he was a kid, he's the father figure that he's never had and helped keep him on the straight and narrow..Before that he'd been skipping school, doing drugs, drinking, fucking random girls and stealing cars..
"I'd been told by my father, my teachers, and my foster families that I was never going to amount to anything, so I set out on a path to prove them all wrong."
When Gabriel took on the fight name "The Saint" he insisted that everyone drop his given name and call him that instead to sever that last connection to his parents..
Then Salem Harris comes walking into his life and changes his game plan, he was drawn to her as soon as he laid eyes on her, an attraction he struggled to deny..
"Why can't I ever seem to find a girl who just wants to fuck? Why do they always want more?"
"My mother was a junkie and my father was the asshole who had brutally beaten and killer her."
I enjoyed how the story was told in Gabriel's point of view and can't wait to see what happens in the next installment of this..
There are so many books being written about boxers and fighters these days, but this one is not anything like the other stories out there. This book doesn't focus on just one topic. It wasn't just about boxing, or just about sex or just about trying to get the girl. There were a lot of topics touched on, and it was all done really well.
When we first meet Gabriel, aka Saint, as an adult, I wasn't so sure that I'd like him. He seemed like he was all about getting laid. But as the story continues, you see how there are many more sides to him. He isn't immune to finding a girl who makes him rethink how he's been living his life. Gabriel also showed how he can't turn his back on those he loved. When his brother Jase shows up, Gabriel knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he did the right thing.
I think as great of a boxer that Saint is, people expected him to be an egomaniac. He wasn't supposed to be the type of guy who worked with kids. I really liked that about his character and it definitely made him out to be more relatable. It helped that he was surrounded by good people who knew him for most of his life.
When Gabriel meets Salem, I wasn't so sure that they should get together. Why her? As the story continues, Salem won me over. I wanted her to be able to make the right choices that would make her happy in the end.
This ended in a bit of a cliff-hanger. I want more answers. I want to know what does happen between Gabriel and Salem, and what happens with his brother. I wasn't satisfied with where things were left off, and can't wait for book 2.
*****I received an ARC in exchange for honest review*****
On the Ropes is Gabriel ”The Saint” Vega story. Gage is the hot sexy fighter, who didn’t have an easy life growing up. Tragic circumstances meant that, at the age of ten Gabe ends up in foster care. Growing up with lots of anger and hurt, he learns to shut everyone out, he was never far from trouble, and that's how he lived most of his teenage years until he meets Frankie Carbone who introduces him to boxing.
"I had been told by my father, my teachers, and my foster families that I was never going to amount to anything. So I set to prove them all wrong"
Fighting and Frankie are what ultimately turns his life around, and now he is a great fighter with the chances of becoming pro.
“Throughout the years, I’ve learned to take my anger out in the ring and not on others”
I loved Gabe, yes! He’s your typical cocky, arrogant fighter, but he has a heart. Loved the way he is with the younger kids from the neighborhood. Gabe still has some issues, and rejections from his past still run deep. Gabe's never been in love, he doesn’t do relationships, his life is filled with one-night stands, with no emotions, making sure no one get close.
“I don’t need anyone. I do just fine on my own”
“How do you know if you have never tried?”
When Selma Harris walks into his life it changes everything. Gabe wants Salem, but he knows she is off limits, but she is all he can think about.
“Salem…there’s just something about her…I’m not sure if it’s her beauty or the fact that I’ll have to work to get her. But, whatever it is, she will be mine”
"I’ve never met a woman that that makes me feel like I want to both Kill and f*** her senseless at the same time, until now. It’s aggravating as hell.
I like Salem she’s feisty, but did comes across cold with an attitude, but as I started to learn more about her, and her story I could understand why. She has a tough exterior, but also a fragile side, and one that Gabe wants to protect. I loved the love/ hate relationship that Salem has for Gabe. Selma tries hard to resist his charms, but every time she sees Gabe understandably he becomes harder to resist.
“I couldn’t say no, Gabriel. I feel it too. I wish I didn’t but I do”.
The storyline it had its fair share of steam, lust, angst, drama, romance, emotions, alpha action, and laughs. Written mainly from Gabe POV, but you do get Salem POV every so often. With Gabe's POV you get a real sense of how he feels about himself, his past, his family, and Salem. I liked the way the author make you see how Gabe and Salem think about each other, and how their heads are fighting with their hearts especially Gabe who has never had experience feeling this way about someone.
With Salem, its different, everything is different. I don’t’ want her to be just another notch on my bedpost”.
“It’s not all about having fun, Saint. It’s about giving your heart to someone, letting them in”
There were some fun secondary characters that added to the story. I really like Frankie, and what her does for troubled kids. And don’t worry there isn’t a cliffhanger as such, but as Christa give you the first chapter of the next book “Going The Distance” at the end of the this book, you are left with the notion that Gabe & Salem’s Story is not over just yet. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment, and catching up with some of the other characters.
Overall I enjoyed On The Ropes, I like the writing style and the pace of the story, the real life feel of the characters, and the chemistry that they share. I absolutely loves the quotes from famous boxers at Christa puts at the start of every chapter being a lover of quotes this was a firm favorite of mine.
“Everybody wants to be somebody. The thing you have to do is give them confidence they can. You have to give a kid a dream” ~ George Foreman
“He who is not courageous enough to take risk will accomplish nothing in life”~ Muhammad Ali
“It’s not the size of a man but the size of his heart that matters” ~ Evander Holyfield
It was the first I have read by Christa Cervone, and as soon as I had finished I added her other book Bound to my TRB list. So when looking for a hot sexy fighter to spend a few hours with then I think Gabriel ”The Saint” Vega is just the fighter for you.
On The Ropes by Christa Cervone: Received ARC from author for honest review.
Gabriel “The Saint” Vega didn’t have it easy growing up. Raised in an unhealthy home… Abusive father, sad and helpless mother, he soon found himself being ripped away from his home at a young age, his father going to jail for an unforgivable crime. His worst fear came true when his little brother was taken from him, being put into a separate foster home, not knowing if or when he’d ever see his little brother again.
Thanks to a man named Frankie, he finds Gabriel years later, very troubled and in need of some much needed guidance. Frankie pulls Gabriel in, takes him under his wing and introduces him to boxing, showing him how to control that pent-up anger. From there on, it’s history.
Saint pulls all the women with his boxers body and rough edge. Going out every night with his friends, picking up women at the bars and bringing the home, he is the bad boy player… Never letting himself get close to a women. But when he meets Salem, his perspective of the universe completely shifts.
Christa Cervone is a woman after my own heart. A fellow Western Masser like myself. She writes a man with just enough edge, a little rough around the edges, but has a soft spot too. You need to break down his walls to see it, but it’s there.
This book is full of love, loss, pain and pure sexiness. The Saint will very easily and very quickly grab your heart.
Warning: This book is for mature readers. 18+ only. Does end in a cliffhanger. Book 2 to be released soon!
**Oh, Christa! Nights with Alice Cooper! I was reading that part at like 1am and wanted to message you! I love Nights with Alice Cooper!**
I was provided a copy of the book by the Author for an honest review.
WOW I just finish reading this book, and I love it, love the characters, now I cant wait to see what will happen next, I am gone keep this short since I don't want to give anything away. This is from the male character point of view.
The story begging with Gabriel being in court, with his younger brother, they are both kids this is the day that will change Gabriel life, after hearing the judge Gabriel feel relieve, thinking that him and his brother will finally be free from his father, but what he was not expecting was that him and his brother was gone be separated. Now Gabriel is all grown up and is into Boxing, he spend his time helping at the gym with the kids, and training for his up coming fight, he enjoy one night stand and is not thinking about having series feeling for a woman, but that all changes the moment that his friend tell him that someone is their to see him, that someone want to sponsor him, when he meet the person, that's when he gets introduce to Salem, That's when he knows that he life is about to change again, but their is one problem Salem is all ready taken, will Gabriel get the woman he want's or will he forget about her.
I love the banter that its going on between Salem and Gabriel, love the way how Gabriel act with her and how protective he is of Salem.
I really love and enjoy reading this book, and now I cant wait to read the second book, Author Christa Cervone THANK YOU for introducing me to this awesome characters and this amazing book love it
A Great Story about Much more than Boxing I really enjoyed this story. There have been a bunch of books lately coming out that are combining sports with romance. This book has those elements but has so much more. It is about love, and loyLty, and family, and trust, and determination. There were real heartfelt moments, and moments of witty banter, love, hate, angst, suspense, and doses of cold hard reality. Our main character is Gabriel "the Saint" the boxer, he's cocky, and hot and definitely a man who're. He had a difficult past, and getting into boxing has helped him somewhat in that area. One night he meets a man who wants to sponsor Gabriel. That's when he meets Salem. Salem takes his breath away, makes his heart beat and he wants her bad. Only thing is, Salem is the sponsor's girlfriend. So much more happens but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag. Just read this book. It is so well written, it sucks you in and holds your attention until the very end. The plot is rich and the characters are real and believable. Just a great book all around. I can't wait for part 2! I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story was captivating. I was sucked right in from the beginning. Although honestly, I had a hard time at the beginning. No worries though cause it was just the prologue that was hard for me personally to get through. It was the amount of rawness of the situations that were written.
It had all the pieces I look for in a good book. Story line, character build, emotion, love, hate, angst, suspense, sex, sadness, and it held reality. Truth. Nothing was over the top or unbelievable. It was different from books I've read in the past.
I love the writing style and the depth this author took the story to. I had no questions in my mind, I was satisfied with the detail. I thought she did a great job with making me feel as though I built a connection to the characters while reading.
This book is recommended as a must read. I can't wait for more in book 2 (Going The Distace) and just more from this author in general. Luckily for me (and many others) there's not too much time to wait for book 2 as it'll be out very very soon.
I really pushed to like story but I couldnt finish it, so Istopped at 75%. I didn't love the characters and didn't care to love them. Spoiler.....I didn't care that the main female was cheated on by her douche of a boyfriend mainly because I didn't really care for her. I felt the sex scene in the beginning was pointless, in the fact it still provided no depth to the character. There was too much back and forth and teenage antics for me....I'm giving it three stars because the writing wasn't bad and it was a different read to me but overall it just didn't do anything for me to want to invest more.
Saffron - I have to say that I really liked Saint from the start. Although the prologue was a bit heartbreaking.
Jillian - We all know I'm a huge fan of Christa's work. When she told me about this book I was so excited to read it.
Noemi - The prologue really grabbed me and I couldn't wait to read more about Gabe and Jase.
Jillian - The prologue was so sad. I was not sure how to take it. I felt so bad for Gabriel and Jase.
Saffron - I really liked that Gabe worked with kids. Even though he also let us know what a man whore he was.
Jillian - He was such a ladies man. He could pretty much talk the pants off of any woman it seemed.
Saffron - Except for one woman made him work for it!
Jillian - And boy did that little spitfire make him work for it. She would not even give him the time of day. He was cocky but all he wanted to do was help her most of the time.
Noemi - You have to admit that Salem was a huge brat in the beginning.
Saffron - Given the asshole she was with, I can't blame her for being skeptical of any male.
Jillian - I hated him so much. What a smug son of a bitch! He knew what he was doing was wrong and he didn't even care.
Saffron - He kept her around because she was always there. Not because he actually appreciated her.
Noemi - Yeah she fit the mold of what he wanted people to see but he didn't really care about her.
Jillian - He made sure that Gabe didn't tell his secret but also made sure he knew he would marry Salem one day.
Saffron - Gabe was really put in a bad position.
Noemi - Well it's guy code. I'm glad that Gabe was keeping an eye on him. You know keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.
Jillian - I wanted him to rip him apart but he couldn't because he technically worked for him. He also didn't want to disappoint Frankie.
Saffron - Yes, he was really dedicated to Frankie. I loved their relationship.
Jillian - Frankie was like a father to him. Who knows where Gabriel would have ended up if it wasn't for Frankie.
Noemi - Well we know what road Gabe was on and where he was headed. Thank goodness for the judge who hooked him up with Frankie.
Saffron - I think he got as far as he did in life and boxing because of Jimmy too.
Jillian - Jimmy was a very good friend to him.
Saffron - As far as the boxing scenes, I think Christa did a good job with describing them.
Jillian - I agree. It was just enough but not too much where it dragged on.
Saffron - Soooo... who wants to go to the Burlesque club?
Jillian - I just want to meet Kitten. Haha
Noemi - While the boxing scenes were ok I needed a bit more depth in them. Guess that comes with the territory of growing up in a boxing family.
Saffron - Definitely not the kind of burlesque I've seen! LOL! Kitten would have fun with anyone I'm sure.
Jillian - Seems like a good time for sure. What about the festival?
Saffron - Um, I think I probably would've gone anywhere with Gabe. LOL
Jillian - I would love for him to teach me how to dance!
Noemi - Latin men.......just saying lol.
Jillian - They can move those hips. Then after leaving the festival Gabriel got a little surprise he was never expecting.
Saffron - He sure did. But Salem really stepped up too. I knew she wasn't a complete bitch.
Jillian - Which made Gabe fall for her even more.
Saffron - I can't wait to see what happens in the next book between those two!
Jillian - Oh my goodness me too! I need to know what happens next.
Noemi - It will be really interesting to see what they will do.
Saffron - I gave this one 5 stars. I liked it so much!
Jillian - Loved this book! I give it 5 Stars as well.
Noemi - Well while I enjoyed Christa's writing and the storyline I really needed a bit more. I have it 3.5 stars.
Yet another awesome read from Author Christa Cervone! Everyone needs to read it.
What happens when your world as you know it comes to a screeching halt. When your only family is taken away from you right in front of your very eyes. And you have to wonder if you will ever see them again. Welcome to Gabriel "The Saint" Vega's life.
After the death of his mother, at the hands of his abusive father, he and his younger brother Jase find them selves wards of the state. Placed in foster homes, separated from one another. Growing up in the foster system was not easy for either of them. Enter Frankie, a former fighter and gym owner, who steps in and helps Gabe find a way to channel all his anger, hurt, frustration and loss. He teaches him how to box. When a new gym owner hears about him, he comes calling and asks Gabe to be the face of his new gym. He will provide him with new equipment and a better place to train if he will promote the gym, not just with his face, but with his fighting abilities. Hoping to be a champion someday, Gabe is hesitant at first to accept, but in the end sees it as a win win for both sides.
Gabriel is a love em and leave em kind of guy. He loves women and finds no problem with his womanizing ways, that is until he meets Salem. She happens to be off limits though. She is the girlfriend of his new boss. One look at Salem has Gabriel questioning his womanizing ways. The fiery redhead has got all his attention. And what Gabe wants, Gabe usually gets. When she repeatedly shoots down his advances, Gabe feels even more drawn to her and it seems that he will stop at nothing to get to her. When her boyfriends actions drive her right into his arms, their worlds collide. And for a brief moment they get to see what it is like to truly be together. When Salem realizes that she needs to step away, you feel the hurt that Gabe is dealing with.
Jase is Gabes younger brother. They have seen each other only a handful of times over the years. When Gabe returns to his old stomping grounds he never expects to find Jase. Taking him in, he can only hope that he can help him to make his life better. When the law steps in and Jase is given the chance to better his life, Gabe steps behind him 100%. He is not about to lose the only family that he has left...again.
On The Ropes is Author Christa Cervone's second book. I read and loved Broken and thought it was well written. But the difference in Christa;s writing from Broken until now has changed. Her writing is stronger. Her sex scene's are just as hot. He character development is spot on and the secondary characters are awesome. I could not help but laugh through several parts of this story, as I know most of the girls who the names are made in reference too. Christa has a way with words, that I feel are not always found with new author's. She literally gets into the head of her characters and brings them to life on the pages of her books. She writes about struggles that some of us may of had to deal with in our lives, or maybe we know someone who has. I personally have dealt with a sibling, who had a drug and alcohol problem, so I can totally relate to Gabe and Jase's relationship and wanting to help to get him clean.
I have to admit that the ending had me nearly throwing my kindle. I wanted more and I wanted it right then and there. I cannot wait for Going the Distance. I can only hope that Jase is still on his road to recovery and has found someone to make him happy. And that Gabe becomes the boxing champion that he is destined to be. Hopefully with Salem by his side.
This is the first book I have read by Christa Cervone. I've heard of her debut novel, Broken and how amazing it is, but have never got round to reading it. After reading On the Ropes, I can garentee that Broken will be my next book on my TBR list as I loved Christas writing style and On the Ropes that I know I won't be disappointed when I read her other books. I loved On The Ropes. I was sucked into the story immediately and I didn't want this story to end. The whole story was emotionally draining, but with everything thing you need in a book to make you love it. It was full of love, sex, hate, angst and amazing charactors that you will fall in love with. I loved Gabriel "The Saint" Vega. He's story was hard to read about, but I found it interesting and knowing about his background made me understand him more. He hasn't had a easy life. His father murdered his mother and then he was split from his brothers when in foster care. He ended up growing up in a tough neighbourhood, where he would either end up dead or in jail. Gabriel however was very lucky and a local boxing coach helped him in so many ways and because of the coach helping him when he was younger Gabriel is the man he is today "The Saint" The Saint is a complete ladies man. Even though he's had a hard life, he's a good guy deep down. He tries his hardest to stay away from Salem, because he doesn't want to hurt her or make the situation worse. You can't help but fall in love with him, he's so sweet and caring and i loved he wanted to help children who are in the same position he was in when he was younger. If you don't fall deeply in love with The Saint then your mad. He's everything you could ask for in a character. Salem is the smoking hot women that enters the gym where he is training, but she is completly off limits. I really loved Salem. At the start she did come across quite hard nosed, rich, snobby and bitchy in places, but as the story continues you find out about her, her past and her story that you understand her more and you warm to her and defintly understand her more and why she is the way she is. I loved her attitude and spirit. She was a breathe of fresh air. I'm so used to reading about women being broken and lost, that I found Salems attitude and feistiness very refreshing. She was a brilliant character and had everything a good character needs. There is a lot of chemistry between Salem andThe Saint, but she is off limits. They both try hard to fight the connection between them and the push and pull they keep feeling. The story was told mostly from The Saints POV. This allowed us to see completly look in to all his thoughts from his past, present and future. I absolutely loved this book, but be prepared for it to end it with a lot of unresolved issues and with loads of questions unanswered. I can't wait to read book 2 to find out what happens and get all my questions answered. I want nothing more than The Saint to be happy. I hope in book 2, he gets his HEA. As this was my first book I have read by the author and I didn't know what to expect, I'm glad to say the author wrote a amazing story, that flowed brilliantly from start to finish and kept me hooked all the way through. I never knew what was going to happen between the characters from one page to the next and I loved how the author made the characters so believable and easy to connect with. I liked that there was a slight cliffhanger but not a huge one. I'm looking forward to book 2 and I'm glad I've found a new author I love.
We have Gabriel, "The Saint" Vega who, yes in the beginning of the story showed he was a fighter and a bit of a man whore. LOL I didn't mind reading a sexy scene from Christa Cervone, because she is good at writing . So I was more than ok with this. "I sit up on my forearms. You didn't interrupt anything. We're just getting warmed up for you," I say, my eyes practically undressing her as she stands before me. Come Join us Sarah." Gabriel. However, don't be fooled, Gabriel's story is filled with angst, heartache, and emotion.
The prolouge was a tough pill to swallow. We are in deep as soon as the story begins with Gabriel and his brother Jase during a trial for the death of their mom. It's then we soon realize the ghosts of Gabriel's past. Gabriel wears his heart on his sleeve, he is a strong fierce man, who didn't have the time to be a fun and easy going kid. He is an alpha male with a tender heart for all. Him and his younger brother are victims of abuse and with no mother and being forced to separate, will definitely grab at your heart strings.
"I wanna show you that you don't have to cry every time you bleed, " See, I'm bleeding and I'm not crying." "It's like we're blood brothers." Jase smiled at me as he blinked back tears." "Yes. Exactly we're blood brothers. I smiled back at him"
Their lives are changed forever. Gabriel has a tough time, but eventually is taken in under Frankie Carbone who runs a boxing program. Frankie is father figure. he is hard and tough on Gabriel, like Frankie says "because you're best god damn fighter that has ever stepped foot in my gym."
Gabriel faces opponent after opponent. He trains and spars hard. He helps with kids in a very genuine and caring way, while always looking and for his own brother Jase.
However his biggest fight will be against a sassy, beautiful, but taken red head named, Salem. Blaine is her boyfriend, who ends up housing Gabriel and Frankie in his own stylish gym and helps pay to train him. Blaine is the slick, powerful, and rich guy who takes advantage of Salem.
Salem and Gabriel start off feisty, but deep down we know it's because they are feeling one another. Salem feels pressure in her life to be perfect, but she is nicer than her ice queen persona. I ended up really liking her as this story unfolded. When Salem finally lets her guard down and Gabriel steps in as a protector, things start to change for the both of them. I really enjoyed how Christa let things evolve and build between them,
" Don't leave me, " She sniffles. "Aw sweetie, I'm not leaving you."
Gabriel stepping in, despite the cold shoulder that Salem usually gave to him, was an eye opener to her. A bit of friendship forms, but again only because they are falling for one another. Gabriel teaches Salem to dance,, they get to know one another, they share a kiss.
"I'm going to kiss you, I whisper, licking my bottom lip. She nods her head. I wish you would." ...I can't explain what's between us. All i know is, you're all I think about. Hell, I even dream about your. I just can't get you out of my head."
When Jase enters their world, Salem shows so much warmth towards him, that is surprises us, the reader, and Gabriel. By the end of this story we are faced with two people from two different worlds and Gabriel preparing for a career making fight. How can they make this work when they are both running away from one another? where is the FIGHT for one another? (xo, Marla)www.facebook.com/AfterThisPageBookBlog

On the Ropes – as the title implies, Christa Cervone’s novel describes a variety of struggles that life throws at people, sometimes on a regular basis, and when people’s lives are “on the ropes,” they can either back down or push through it, but either way, the potential risks are great for both.
Gabriel “The Saint” Vega has been in dangerous situation after dangerous situation. As a child, the struggles he faced were not of his own making, but he still had to endure them, and both he and his brother, Jason (Jase), were forever changed. Fast forward into Gabe’s teenage years and his circumstances aren’t much better, but this time, he’s choosing the wrong path all on his own, but all it takes is one person to be in Gabe’s corner to give him the courage to change directions. Gabe finds that person – Frankie – and now The Saint is born, and he’s literally “on the ropes” in a boxing ring, looking to make a bigger name for himself by becoming a professional boxer.
For the most part, since Frankie took him in, Gabe’s life has been good. He has a couple of really good friends, and a boxing coach who looks out for him, always trying to keep him on the straight and narrow. Gabe still pushes himself to the edge, especially when it comes to the opposite sex, but he’s young and attractive and just looking to have a good time while he still can.
Salem Harris changes everything for The Saint. She’s someone he shouldn’t want, but he can’t help himself; she does something to him that no other woman ever has; there’s only one problem, though, she’s not free to be his. In fact, Gabe’s association with Salem’s boyfriend, Blaine, makes this whole scenario a lot more complicated. So what does he do? Does he take the risk and fight for the girl he wants or does he back down and give up the one person who might have been his game changer?
I really enjoyed reading On the Ropes. Christa Cervone knows how to create dynamic characters. She allows her readers an inside look into Gabriel’s thoughts and feelings about his past, his present, and even his future. Sometimes when books are about MMA fighting or boxing, the sport seems to consume the text, which takes away from its other aspects. That is definitely not the case here. If anything, the boxing is secondary. The sport allows readers to meet some of the major players/complications in the story, but it’s not the main aspect. At the heart of the story is Gabe’s transformation from a lonely little boy to a troubled teen to a man who wants to fight to make a name for himself, save his brother, and maybe even get the girl he wants.
Because this is book one in a series, it ends with unresolved issues and conflicted feelings. I’ve read that Going the Distance is the title of book two, and just like book one, its name has a lot of varying implications for Gabe, Salem, and maybe even Jase. I hope to get a little more from Salem’s point of view in book 2. My feelings for her are conflicted right now because I don’t have a very clear picture of the type of person she is. Readers were only given a few glimpses into her psyche, so I’m left with many questions in terms of her actions and attitudes. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in the next book.
I was given the opportunity to read this book and give my honest review. From the very first page this book will grab your attention and pull at your heart strings. Let me just start off by saying I am a sucker for Sports Romance Fiction. Katy Evans' "Real" left me emotionally messed up for days and I have not found another book that could compete with it, until now. "One the Ropes" is a different form of Sports Fiction. It is actually written from the male POV (well 95% of it is), which is much different than most of the books I read. I love the Alpha Male perspective. It's a different approach but it hit the spot. The story is one of true heartache and how with a little love, everyone can achieve what they deserve.
Our story starts out with us meeting Gabriel "Saint" Vega, who has not the greatest life. Coming from a abusive home and then thrown into Foster Care, Gabriel soon finds boxing and hopes that might save him from his true destiny. While not only training for his next big break we also learn that Gabriel also assists in the gyms before and after school program for trouble youth. He figures if this is what saved him, at least he could give back. With Frankie (the gyms owner and Gabriel's mentor) help, Gabriel is making strives to be the next big thing in boxing. However with his alpha-male tendencies and lady man's way he gets in his fair share of trouble. Frankie has his hands full and presents Gabriel with an opportunity of a lifetime.....a sponsorship. Blaine, who reeks of money, offers Gabriel the opportunity to be the face of his gym and will sponsor him in his upcoming fights. However, Gabriel is hesitant to accept the offer because he feels like it is a slap in Frankie's face. But what he didn't realize comes with Blaine's offer is also a chance to be near Blaine's hot tempered girlfriend Salem.
Salem is the quintessential stuck up rich girl. She feels this sponsorship is just another one of Blaine's rich-boy ideas and doesn't hold any interest to her. Well until she sees Gabriel. What pull does this fighter have on her? Salem soon starts to question her and Blaine's relationship and how she is treated. But with pressure from her family she knows what she has to do....stay with Blaine. Its mapped out for her, hell it has always been mapped out for her: Marry Blaine, have a successful career and then have kids. But is that what she wants and is that what she wants with someone like her womanizer boyfriend Blaine.
Gabriel sees Salem's stuck up attitude as a challenge and this is where the books starts to get really good. He is that little thorn in Salem's side and is adamant that he will eventually break her down and be his. At certain parts of the book, the reader is lead to think Gabriel is achieving his goal but them Salem knocks us back to reality.
Throughout this book, the reader realizes that there is much more going on then a cocky boxer and stuck up princess' relationship. We are thrown into a story with characters who are in need of something better. Not only are romantic relationships given second chances but also friendships and family relationships given another shot. I totally enjoyed this book; however the ending kind of left me with a huge question mark in my head. But I was glad to see there was a second book in the series so we can learn more about Gabriel and Salem's relationship. null
On the Ropes is the first book in the Down for the Count series by Christa Cervone. This is the first book I have read by her, but I love me some sexy fighters. I was sucked right into the story and really felt for all that Gabriel was going to have to face. While I loved his character, I didn't immediately feel the same about Salem. This book was good, and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Gabriel "The Saint" Vega and his brother Jason were separated as children and forced into different foster homes after their father murdered their mother. Gabriel was taken under the wing of a man named Frankie that helped him to channel his aggression and make something of himself as a boxer. Now years later Gabriel is preparing for his first big fight while also helping Frankie with helping other at risk youth like he was. When a rich man named Blaine approaches Frankie and Saint about sponsoring him, things finally begin to look as though they are about to pay off. Except then Saint meets Blaine's girlfriend Salem and even though he knows its wrong, he can't help but want her for his own.
Like I said before, I loved Saint. He was a good guy, and he was a lot of fun. He liked to go out and have a good time and keep things casual with women, but he was also really dedicated to being the best fighter he could be. He kept his training in mind, and knew that he had to act differently at times. He also knew that something about Salem was different, and he wanted her to know that he didn't view her like all the other women he had been with. He was interested in more with her, and I liked that he showed her that. Salem was extremely hard for me to like, and if I'm honest I pretty much hated her until about 55% of the way through this book. She came off as a spoiled snob, and there were no redeeming qualities about her at all. But then suddenly we get to see beneath her shell a bit, and she isn't just her attitude. I was glad that we finally got to see more of her vulnerability, because for the longest time I really couldn't figure out why Saint or Blaine would want anything to do with her.
Besides Salem herself, I also had a bit of a problem with the way things were handled between Saint and Salem. If you are against cheating, I would suggest that you probably don't read this book. Not only does Blaine constantly cheat on Salem throughout this story, but Salem never breaks up with Blaine either. So everything that Saint and Salem are beginning to build and feel happens while she is with someone else. I don't think much of the relationship between Blaine and Salem and clearly he has no respect for her, but her cheating on him as well doesn't make it right. I kept waiting for her to finally wake up and end things so her and Saint could have a shot. While this book doesn't end on a huge cliffhanger, things are still up in the air and their story continues in the next book Going the Distance. I am curious to see what happens next, and I really hope that things are a bit different going forward. I think if you like sexy fighters and can handle some infidelity, that you might give this one a shot.
On The Ropes by Christa Cervone is unlike any of the fighter books I have read to date. Most fighter books feature a bull headed, very determined Alpha male that has some kind of issues in his past. He allows these issues to hold him back from being in a successful loving relationship. On The Ropes does have a very bull headed Alpha male, Gabriel "Saint" Vega. He has a horrific past. That horrific past has molded him into the man he is today. Rather than allowing the past to rule his future, he allowed people to help him along the way in his life. He has learned from the positive examples in his life and is determined to be an honorable man. His past is put into the right perspective. He has learned that some things are out of his control and that he has to accept it and move forward in the best direction that he can. He has learned that family is not always defined by DNA.
He is on the verge of breaking into the big league in the boxing world. He has trained hard and followed the rules. He listens to his trainer, Frankie Carbone, and follows his directions. After all , it was Frankie that gave him the break he needed in life. One would think with his new found fame and fighting career that he would have a huge ego. Not the case with the Saint. He is a very humble man. He knows his strengths and weaknesses, he has respect for others, and gives his time to "at risk" kids. He may be a bit of a player where the ladies are concerned but overall he's a good guy.
When a sponsorship opportunity knocks on the door, Frankie encourages Saint to take this opportunity. This opportunity leads him to meeting the one woman that can change his view on serious relationships. This one woman is the only woman he can't have. She is the girlfriend of his sponsor and they are in a very serious relationship.
Salem Harris is a spoiled rich girl with her nose high in the air. She has been involved with Blaine all her life. It doesn't matter that he treats her badly. It doesn't matter that he cheats on her. He is her destined prince charming.
When Salem and The Saint but heads is more than a pissing match. The sexual chemistry between the two will go the distance. But their relationship is a forbidden one. Nothing good can come from it. And when something does come of it....CLIFFHANGER!
On The Ropes set the pace for the Down For The Count Series. I loved Gabriel "Saint" Vega. His humble personality and dedication to those he loved knocked my socks off. I had a hard time liking Salem. She was incredibly self absorbed and self entitled. I could not understand the attraction that the Saint had for her. But then Christa Cervone waved her magical pen and showed the readers another side to Salem. I am anxious to see her transformation in the next book. The secondary characters made this story work. Their personalities and assigned roles gave this story an insight to the real lives of the fighters behind the scenes and in real life circumstances.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
ON THE ROPES and GOING THE DISTANCE (Down for the Count Series) by Christa Cervone
5 out of 5 Star for each read Review by WTRBlog
On the Ropes (book 1) Going the Distance (book 2) By Christa Cervone
You just read book one then two in this series as they do go in sequence. I am reviewing these two reads together since I was able to read them back to back. I love this series and feel fortunate to have been given this chance to read Ms. Cevone's work for the first time. This story is captivating and is rich in development that will keep you very intrigued from beginning to end. Gabriel 'the Saint' Vega's life started tough for a young boy and made him a strong young man with dreams and hope. He is the son of a murderer, which forced him and his younger brother, Jace, to be separated and lost as part of the foster system. Lucky for Saint, he was saved by a mentor and or father figure, Frankie, who is owner of a beat up boxing gym that runs a program for inner city kids. Now as a full time fighter, Saint helps his trainer Frankie with the kids program and continues to train with the hopes of going Pro in his career. The gym has taken a toll with lacks of funding and age that Frankie is scrambling to keep the run down gym up and going. Lucky for them, they found a sponsor, Blaine, the owner of a brand new gym near by that will help Saint with his boxing career. He will be allowed to train in their new facility and be supplied with new gear if he agrees to be the face to help promote sales at TKO. The new gym is not the only reason that Saint want in the deal but also he became struck with the beauty that was escorting Blaine when he approached Frankie and Saint at the old gym. He was taken by Salem's beauty the first time he met her and now she has become his drug that stimulates his heart with every beat. The only thing is, she is Blaine's and she is from the up side of town were money is plenty! Turns out that Blaine is a cheat and has been hiding it from Salem for years. The secret has just been let out when the boys from the gym get invited out by Blaine to celebrate the merger and find themselves at a high end club with a no tell policy. Blaine is not the honest and loyal boyfriend that Salem has been led on to believe. With this knowledge, Saint feels more inclined to pursue Salem and win her heart even though she may never give him the time of day! Will Saint win Salem? Will Salem ever leave Blaine even though it has been their, well really their families plan, that they would be a couple now and for ever? What will happen to the gym? Does Saint ever see his brother Jace again and are the rumors true that he has heard his brother is a drug junkie? This read has it all and is a must read!!!
I was hooked pretty much from page one. You have Gabriel “The Saint” Vega. A guy who came from a crappy childhood but was saved by Frankie when he was younger. Frankie ran a boxing program but it was also a program that kept kids off the streets and out of trouble. Gabriel and his brother were separated at a young age because of something terrible that happened to their family.
“What do you mean, I’m going with you and Jase is going with Dave?” my voice begins to tremble. Once I realize what’s happening, I begin to scream at the top of my lungs, “You’re not taking my brother from me. I’m all he has!”
Gabriel found his way through boxing after Frankie took him in, but his brother Jase unfortunately took the wrong path.
Gabriel is an upcoming boxer that is working his way to the pros with Frankie as his trainer.
I am not going to give much away, but I will say that he hooks up with a sponsor and that is when things get pretty intense.
Gabriel is a manwhore and doesn’t deny it until he meets Salem Harris who has him rethinking his whoring ways. The chemistry between them is there from the beginning and it has you hoping they finally get together.
“In your dreams,” she rants as she pushes her way by me. “Doll, I could make that dream a reality,” I give her a wink, “all you gotta do is name the time and place, and I’ll be there.”
“I’ve never met a woman that makes me feel like I want to both kill and fuck her senseless at the same time; until now. It’s aggravating as hell.”
The story is told mostly in Gabriel's POV and that I found to be fantastic. The author did a great job writing a male POV! I loved reading what went through his mind while having a threesome. A little more than half way through the author threw in some third person dialogue and that became a little confusing at first because I wasn’t expecting it.
The book has lots of HOT sex scenes and I am not going to lie when I tell you I had to wipe the drool from my mouth a few times.
This story flowed beautifully and was well written. I devoured this book in one day because I seriously could not put it down. It ends in a cliffhanger but not a terrible one. It just has you wanting to find out what is going to happen next. I can’t wait for the next book. I am dying to find out what is going to happen!!!!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is Gabriel Vega’s story and I am delighted that he got the opportunity to tell it. This book will definitely have you on the ropes. It is abundant when it comes to the emotions that it will draw from you. The characters are complete, you may not like everything they do but they are rounded, human and perfectly portrayed. The story is like a well-oiled machine, each piece slots perfectly into place and each has it job to do, its own agenda and that is to deliver a story that ever so slightly a shift from the norm. Gabriel hasn’t had it easy but makes no excuses for the life he leads now. He is more than he appears and getting to peel away the layers of this intriguing man was absorbing. His early years were abhorrent and when he eventually ended up in the foster care system, I had feelings that my hope for the man that this damaged young boy could eventually be was gone. But surrounded by some great people he proved me wrong. Because as an adult, he shows just what he is made of and it version of himself that he chooses to portray to the world on a daily basis, I actually think he is tougher on the inside. When his brother Jase turns up needing him, he does what any good sibling would do, his best. Keeping is anger in check has always been a full time occupation – I mean it is why he is in the ring in the first place but this guy has a heart that is multi-faceted, you will understand that when you read about his work with kids. Salem on the other hand had me slightly confused and distracted, I wanted her to be able to make choices that I knew were in her best interest but I lacked confidence in her ability to stand on her own two feet. There seemed to be a weakness that I just couldn’t put my finger on. But her conflict over her feelings towards Gabriel is handled beautifully. But when Gabriel lays eyes on Salem, he has a need to change the habit of a lifetime, one night stands are his modus operandi and always have been, relationships hold no court for this young man, I mean you can’t miss something you have never had and loving someone leaves him wide open to a pain that he has no desire to ever experience again but he can’t run from what he can see before him and what he can feel and that is that he knows for the first time he wants more. The story is emotional, passionate and packs its own punch, if you are anything like me you will be hooked and keen to catch the next book as soon as possible
My heart was breaking in the prologue alone. The book opens with a young Gabriel and his brother watching as their father stands in court for the murder of their mother. I wanted to wrap my arms around the boys and protect them from the cruelty they've had to endure. Fast forward to their adult lives and I found fate took them in two different directions. While Gabriel found a guardian angel in Frankie that took him off his self destructive path, Gabriel's brother wasn't so lucky.
Gabriel may have had a crap childhood, but Frankie and boxing did him a world of good. He's a good man, helps other at risk youth and is a rising star in amateur boxing. He's content with life and where it's going. Until Salem enters his gym. Her beauty attracts him. The fact that she's in a relationship, her coldness and indifference to him only fuel him on. She's a challenge.
Salem is on a destructive path herself, but just doesn't realize it. For whatever reason she stays with her douchebag boyfriend. As much as he wears her heart down with hurt and mistrust she refuses to leave the asshat. Instead she clings to loyalty and the love she's sure he has for her. Ugh! I wanted to shake her around and shove his cheating ways into her face till the light bulb goes on. She's suspected for a long time that he cheats, but never had proof and hoped he would change. Seriously! You're not married to him. Move on! But their families have a history, so it's not that easy for her.
After a moment of weakness and letting her guard down, Salem and Gabriel actually form a quick friendship. There's attraction between them both. But, she's not free to explore it. These two can actually be good together. The only thing really stopping them is her. She's blocking her own path to happiness.
We meet up with Gabriel's brother again. Life hasn't been good to him. Ms. Cervone made me cry at one point. Now that Gabriel is an adult though, he's doing what he can for his brother and vows to not ever leave him again. Old friends step in to help provide a better outcome for him.
This one leaves off on a cliff. Things are unresolved in the end and left my heart feeling sad for Gabriel. It's a good start to a new series. I'm looking forward to the next one. I want to see what progress his brother has made and if Salem has managed to pull her head out of her ass and get it right.
I liked Gabe and his character. He is a young fighter who has become a local celebrity and has a reputation for loving and leaving the ladies. What I adored about him is how great he is with the kids he helps out with. He knows what it is like to grow up rough neighborhoods, to be in the system. He is helping to give these youth a chance that he received at their age, a chance that saved his life and set his life on a path of good. Gabe doesn’t do relationships; he just does the women and lots of them. He is content with the life he is leading. When he is offered and opportunity of a lifetime that last thing he was expecting was the little spitfire, Salem. Salem wants NOTHING to do with Gabe but because of her boyfriend’s business, she finds herself crossing paths with him. He acts like a caveman; rude, obnoxious and blunt and GORGEOUS. She can’t deny the attraction she has for Gabe. I liked Salem’s character. She comes off as stuck up and cold but as I kept reading, I found her to be closed off. I mean if you grew up being told what school to go, what friends to hang out with, what you will major in, where you were going work and who you are going to marry. How can one NOT come off as cold and bitchy? Once she opens up, she is awesome, caring, funny and loveable. I loved seeing the friendship develop between her and Gabe. Through this friendship, she finds herself confused and she starts questioning all she has ever known. Gabe has opened her eyes and her feelings. Gabe wants Salem. He is finding himself in unchartered territory with his feelings. He has never been in a relationship or in love for that matter and he wants it bad and he wants it with her. Even though he knows she is off limits because of her boyfriend, she is all he can think about. The heart wants what the heart wants. When the lines of their friendship start to get blurred, Gabe finds himself in the biggest fight of his life. Will he be victorious or will he get knocked out? Christa did a fantastic job! I loved the characters. I can’t wait to see where things end up for The Saint and those he cares about. An exciting, sexy, romantic and heart breaking read!
“A champion shows who he is by what he does when he’s tested. When a person gets up and says, ‘I can still do it,’ he’s a champion.” - Evander Holyfield
I really enjoyed this book even though I'm not a very big boxing fan. Most of the book is written from Gabriel's POV with a very small POV from Salem. It is a bit cliffy - it is not a crazy cliffhanger, and the book definitely ends, but you know that the story is far from over. I hope that Christa doesn't make us wait too long for book two!
Gabriel had a very rough childhood. After his father murders his mom, Gabriel and his little brother Jason are split up and sent to different foster care homes. Unfortunately, they lost touch over the years and Jason turned to drugs. Gabriel was lucky enough to get off of the streets and away from trouble with the help of Frankie, a man that would become Gabriel's friend, coach, mentor and pseudo father. Now, he is undefeated in his weight class with a very bright future.
Salem was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and first meets Gabriel when her boyfriend offers him a job being the spokesperson for his new state-of-the-art boxing gym. She tried to ignore him, but he doesn't make that easy to do. Salem is studying to be a lawyer to help underprivileged children.
Salem…there’s just something about her…I’m not sure if it’s her beauty or the fact that I’ll have to work to get her. But, whatever it is, she will be mine. - Gabriel
Something is happening between Salem and Gabriel but she loves her boyfriend even though she thinks that he is cheating on her. They have a long history and their lives are very intertwined.
She’s intoxicating to me; her scent, her lips, her eyes, and the way our breathing is in sync. As my face inches closer to hers, I’m fighting with myself not to kiss her because I know that once I start, I won’t be able to stop. I’ll want more than just an innocent kiss. I’ll want all of her. - Gabriel
"I should’ve never agreed to come here with you today but I couldn’t say no, Gabriel. I feel it too. I wish I didn’t, but I do!" - Salem
My review of On the Ropes by Christa Cervone written by Ann Marie
1…2…3…..I am down for the count!! This book gets 5 knockout stars from me!
This story starts off with Gabriel Vega when he was a young child sitting in a court room with his younger brother Jase; they haven’t had a great childhood.
Fast forward Gabriel also known as “The Saint” is now at a gym with his trainer Frankie, Frankie has been like father to him, he is getting ready to spar with his friend Jimmy. Gabriel is a boxer; boxing saved him from the streets. He hasn’t had it easy. He was separated from his younger brother years ago. He longs to see his younger brother again. Gabriel is an excellent boxer with a promising future. He is getting ready for a big fight. This is when he meets Blaine and Salem. Blaine wants to sponsor Gabriel but Gabriel has eyes for Salem.
Salem has been with Blaine it seems like forever. She loves him. At first when we meet her she comes off frosty. But once you get to know her you will come to like her. I have. She has a feeling that Blaine is cheating on her but she never had proof. She goes to a meeting with Blaine one day and that is where she meets Gabriel. She immediately dismisses any advances from him after all she is with Blaine.
Gabriel sees her and he can’t take his eyes off her she is beautiful. He then meets Blaine, Blaine is the guy who wants to sponsor him for his big fight coming up and he wants Gabriel to be the face of his new gym TKO. He is introduced to Blaine’s girlfriend Salem and his desire stirs even more when she blows him off. He likes her feistiness but there is more and he can’t figure out what it is that draws him to her. All he knows is that his desire to have her is overwhelming his every thought.
Will Gabriel reconnect with his younger brother? Will he win over the girl who has taken over his every thought? Will he accept Blaine’s offer to sponsor him? Will he win the big fight?
You will have to read this book to find the answers. I promise you will love it it’s a great story! The storyline here is fantastic! Gabriel has won my heart!

Gabriel “The Saint” is training for his next boxing match, but that hasn’t stopped him from drinking and man whoring around. He knows he needs to take things seriously, his trainer who is like a father to him makes sure to ride his ass daily. Gabriel never had any intentions of settling down, well that is until Salem knocks him down for the count. He wants her, but she wants nothing to do with him. I loved how he would be a smart ass to her and not let her bitchy persona and attitude stop him from trying to get her. Only problem? Her boyfriend is now his sponsor. Add to that his past and he doesn’t think he would ever be good enough for Salem.
Salem wants nothing to do with Gabriel. She can be stuck up and judgmental, and oh boy she is a massive bitch. She also appears to care less about anything boxing related. While she appears to be this stuck up bitch, there is more to Salem than it seems. Her relationship with her boyfriend is anything but perfect, she’s trying hard to make her parents proud, all while losing more of who she really is deep down.
On The Ropes is the first book in the Down For The Count series and while it was good, for me it just wasn’t great. I loved the idea of the book and it kept my attention but at the same time I was bored if that makes any sense. I wanted Gabriel at times to put Salem in her place when she would treat him so shitty and have more self-respect for himself for his own self-worth. The ending, well let’s just say I was pissed and not a happy reviewer. Luckily for me I had the second book ready to start right away. It wasn’t even the cliff-hanger aspect that made me made, no it was what Gabriel and Salem do that made me want to slap them both.
Now, while I didn’t overall love On The Ropes, it still is a good book. I love sport themed books, and boxers are one of my favorite. While it may not have worked for me overall, it may work for you so still check this one out, form your own opinion and give it a try.
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I truly love this book! Christa blows me away with her characters and depth of the story she tells. Gabriel is probably one of my favorite fictional males and especially in the whole " fighter " category. We meet Gabriel and his brother when they are children. Tragedy is their lives and when something tragic happens they are left to foster care. Sadly Gabriel is separated from his brother. He found an outlet for all that anger, aggression, disappointment, hurt basically all emotions period and he found that in fighting. Frankie took him in and was like a father to him and showed him a better way to channel that anger he had in his heart and head. In walks Salem and it turns his world upside down. Gabriel is used to getting what he wants. But with Salem he learns fast that she isn't what she appears to be and she is taken, and not be no one either. Someone that can change things drastically for Gabriel. But he cannot help how attracted he is to Salem, she bewitches him. These two form a connection over time and find it hard to fight their attraction. But Gabriel has a temper and sometimes it's hard for him to keep that in check. Can these two make it work? or are they doomed from the start?
This is action packed with everything you want in a story. Action, hot guys, extreme hotness overload, love, lust it just has everything and it is truly an amazing book. That is pretty much all I can give away at this time, but trust me. You will LOVE IT! Well done Christa, well done! I just want to say I am proud of this woman. This book is her own! it's all her, if you know her you at all you will feel her presence in this book and feel her in it .She poured her heart and soul into it and I just want her to know that I am proud of her.
