I really like how the secret history of the world is slowly coming to light as well as the plot. There's a lot going on in this particular volume. A great deal of backstory as well as plot revelation. There's enough tidbits of information also provided between this volume and the last volume that you can really start theorizing about what's going on.
I'm a big fan of world building and enjoy a good engaging plot. But the most important aspect for me has always been characters. The characters have to be a set that I can invest emotionally into. I have to really want to know them and care about their lives and what they're going to do. If a series is good enough to provide engaging likable characters that's when I can start investing my attention into other factors like world building and plot story. This series has really interesting characters that you can love and hate as well as be deeply interested in what makes them tick. Add to that the really interesting world building that's slowly seeping into the story, and you just have something tantalizing to read. I'm looking forward to the next volume, hopefully it won't take too long to come out!
Great volume. I knew some of the events, having read the first two volumes of the light novel, but it was still exciting—and sad. Silver Sword goes to clear the new tower without Alina, because Rufus blackmails them to it. There, an adversary as powerful as Alina waits, and she’s not there to help. Things don’t go well at all.
We learn a little about Alina’s past, how she’s lost a favourite adventurer when she was a little girl, which has made her decide to become a receptionist instead. But learning Jade might be dying makes her question her priorities: saving him even if it means exposing her secret. The volume ends with a cliffhanger and I absolutely need more.
Because of blackmail, Alina gets to go back to being a receptionist while Rufus joins the Silver Sword team. But can he be trusted in the dungeon? What happens when the Silver Sword goes up against the Humanoid monster without Alina's aid? Read and find out in this twisty volume which ends in a cliffhanger of course!
Hmm. On the one hand the story is really developing. On the other, it is developing an exposition-heavy fighting/tournament-style anime theme which I really hate and find boring. Also it got super violent and gorey for no reason. Why does this series change wildly between volumes??
Jade has to make the hard decision to have Rufus join the Silver Sword to replace Alina! He doesn't want to, but Rufus threatens to reveal Alina secret identity! Silver Sword goes back into the dungeon. Will they make it out alive?
