After losing her father and brother in the line of duty, Missy Prescott vows never to get involved with anyone who has a dangerous job. Blessed with a golden voice, she takes a job as a disc jockey with her own late-night lovelorn dedication show on a popular radio station in Baltimore.
Blake Decker has never had a family. He has come to count on the only family he knows—his brothers on the police force. He’s a one-night-stand kind of guy when it comes to relationships.
Betty McAllister, the caring woman who used to live in Missy’s apartment, is now a ghost. She refuses to cross over until Blake—whom she viewed as her own son—is happily in love. She thinks Missy is the perfect girl for him.
Missy and Blake need to keep each other at a distance as they work together to help Betty find a way to cross over. But when danger lurks, will Missy and Blake lose everything?

He has trust issues. She has very good reasons for steering clear of him. Despite their undeniable physical attraction when they first meet, Missy Prescott and Blake Decker resist opening their hearts to one another. Not if Betty has any say in the matter. What's the harm of a little nudging from a sweet and friendly ghost anyway?
What an enjoyable addition to the Hauntings at Inner Harbor series! Altered Frequency has less angst than Hereafter, but what it does have is more romance (both heartwarming and steamy kind), charm and a healthy dose of nail-biting suspense! As with her other stories, Joya Fields, makes you care so much for her characters and what happens to them. You just can't help but feel for Missy and Blake and what each have gone through in their lives. You will just adore Betty to pieces! I also loved the Baltimore setting and the details of both their jobs. Blake is a cop and Missy is a late night DJ. All these elements combine to create quite an engaging story!
Can Altered Frequency be read as a standalone? Absolutely! I definitely place this story in the short-sweet-sexy category.
Altered Frequency is the second book in the Inner Harbour series, and once again Joya Fields makes a ghost romance novel work.
Missy Prescott is Misty 'till Midnight on station WLOV. Her sexy voice has been haunting Blake Decker for a month. What a surprise when he learns she lives across the hall from him. How does he come upon this revelation? When the ghost of his 90 year old neighbor pulls the fire alarm!
Wonderful characters (especially the ghost) and Joya always delivers the twists you never expect.
I love this series! Another hauntingly wonderful story!
This was a really sweet and amusing story. As my first foray into Fields’s writing, I can definitely say that I will checking out the first book in this series at some point. I do love me a good paranormal romance, and this was definitely a good paranormal romance. =^.^=
Missy and Blake are two characters who definitely have issues that they need to work out, but then who doesn’t? She doesn’t want to fall for a guy who’s job puts his life at risk, and he doesn’t want to trust his heart to someone who wants more than a one night stand after his last relationship was a disaster. Because of this issues, it was really easy for me to relate to both characters immediately upon being introduced to them. I have to give serious purrs to Fields for her talent at creating believable characters. And I also have to admit that both of them are perfect for each other. The relationship between both Blake and Missy is instantly hot, though both try hard to not act upon their impulses. Watching them connect and overcome their own personal barriers made for a very satisfying read.
By far though my favorite part of the story involved Betty! I just couldn’t get enough of this precocious, loveable, mischievous ghost. There are so many memorable scenes with her, she literally stole the show as far as I’m concerned. I only wish that I had a ghost like her living around the house. Heehee. I think my favorite scene with her though was when the power in the building goes out and Betty decides that it’s high time Blake and Missy get to know each other better. If you want to know what I’m talking about, get a copy of this story for yourself and give it a read, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
[image error] I really liked the first book in this series but I have to say I LOVED this book. I’m hooked on all the ghostly happenings at Inner Harbor.
The apartment building in Inner Harbor has many spirits. In Altered Frequency we meet a matchmaking elderly ghost named Betty. Betty thinks she needs to get the man who lived across from her and the woman that now lives in her apartment together to be able to cross over to the other side. But she has her hands full with these two.
Missy Prescott left California to start over after losing her brother in the line of duty. He wasn’t the first person she loved that died that way. He father was a police officer and died on the job too. She is a DJ on a late night radio station. She loves her job but is extremely lonely and wary of love herself for fear of losing them.
Blake Decker is a Baltimore cop. His blood family deserted him and his only family is his fellow cops. He doesn’t believe in relationships until one feisty ghost literally pushes him into Missy.
Betty (the ghost) was an absolute hoot. And to see these two non-believing people suddenly having conversations with her made for lots of humor. The resonant evil that also lives in the building was also back from the first book. We still don’t know much more about that but I am hoping in future books it will be revealed what/who that is all about.
I thoroughly loved this book from beginning to end and cant wait to see who’s next in the apartment building to have a other worldly experience.
Oh how I adored Betty, ghostly matchmaker who makes beds, cleans up and leaves the scent of fresh-baked apple pie in her wake. She was clever and funny, and provided a series of ‘meetings’ between Missy and Blake to achieve her goal of finding Blake a “nice girl” just for him.
Missy was cleverly created as well: dealing with her own grief from the loss of her father and brother. Her acceptance of Betty, watching movies, chatting, even arranging the kitchen cabinets to make her comfortable was sweet, and Betty became a mother / friend figure for her quite quickly.
Blake was more surprising: while claiming to not want a relationship or a connection, his internal battle and questions about the comfort and reactions he has to Missy told a far different story. His reaction when he finally does see Betty is sweetly touching: while she thinks of him as a son, he longs for her mothering and the sense of familial acceptance she brought.
Fields created a story that was believable with characters who were instantly empathetic and easy to like. Adding Betty in the mix for some comedic relief, and then as the true heroine when Missy’s life is on the line brought the tension to a climax point, and had both Missy and Blake realizing just what was important. While their connection and sex was steamy, the emotional revelations and that palpable connection between them was the most satisfying part of this story. For a quick, short and highly happy read – this book is a winner.
I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the book tour. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Altered Frequency by Joya Fields is Book II in the Hauntings of Inner Harbor Series. I hadn’t read the first one, Hereafter, but I immediately downloaded it after reading Altered Frequency. Each is a stand-alone book.
This story grabbed me from the beginning when the adorable 90-year old, matchmaking ghost, Betty, pulls the fire alarm of the apartment building where Missy and Blake are neighbors, forcing them to meet. From then on the story takes off and never stops.
Blake is a hot, handsome cop who has been burned before and doesn’t trust women. Missy is a sexy, nighttime DJ who lost both father and brother in the line of duty, and refuses to become involved with a cop. Betty has her work cut out for her. She knows they are each other’s true love but has a personal reason for wanting them together as well.
Missy and Blake team up to help Betty cross over but things become complicated when an over zealous fan of Missy’s radio show may have crossed the line to stalker. This is a fun, sexy read with the perfect balance of suspense, danger, and humor. I’m looking forward to more of Ms. Field’s work.
I read and really enjoyed the first book in this series. To be honest, I was expecting this to be a pretty similar story, lore wise. I was so wrong! Yes, they take place in the same building with some cross over characters, but that is where the stories similarities end. I love that about this book. Not only does it feature a love story between two characters I both like and can relate too, but it has Betty. I think she may be my favorite. I know, I pick the old lady ghost as my fave, but she truly is made of awesome. Ghosts, stalkers, true evil, true love, and a bit of mystery all add to the fun. Have no fear if you have not read the first story. You will not feel like you are missing out on key info. This is a complete story in and of itself and while there is still one open question about the apartment building I would love an answer to, I felt very content with the ending.
I’m usually a wimp when it comes to ghost stories, but my friend recommended this book after reading it so I had to give it a try. I loved it.
The ghost was adorable, although there were a couple points of scary in the story.
The story was wonderful. It took off in a way that hooked me right away. The attraction between the hero and heroine was intense, especially since they were literally pushed into it.
