About the author

Matthew Abram Groening is an American cartoonist, television producer and writer from Portland, Oregon.

Groening is best known as the creator of The Simpsons. He is also the creator of Futurama and the author of the weekly comic strip Life in Hell. Groening distributed Life in Hell in the book corner of Licorice Pizza, a record store in which he worked.

He made his first professional cartoon sale to the avant-garde Wet magazine in 1978. The cartoon is still carried in 250 weekly newspapers.

I love the Treehouse of Horror episodes of the Simpsons and looked forward to watching them when I had cable.

I didn't care for the graphic novel version. There were one page spread of games or little jokes and there were about 5-6 stories in the rest of the book. It was the Simpsons, but I didn't enjoy this really. I thought the story, when they were telling it was ok, but it didn't work for me as much.

I would think most Simpson fans would enjoy this edition.

The Simpson's annual Treehouse of Horror episode was once an event in our house. Time would simply stop as we watched that wacky yellow family put their own special touches to classics like The Shining, The Fly, and The Omega Man. Then...something happened. Lack of fresh ideas, bad writing...I don't know, but the more recent shows just aren't as fun (and funny!) as they used to be.

Luckily, this collection harkens back to the good old days, when Groundskeeper Willie haunted children's nightmares, and Cafeteria Lady Doris served up "Sloppy Jimbos" to a greedy Principal Skinner.

Here are seven ticklish tales you should enjoy. See Homer awaken as a cockroach. Meet "Tahn-Enn-Bahm" - a Christmas tree bent on taking over the world. Watch as Lisa channels Carrie when she decides to teach the school bullies a lesson.

The stories are separated by pages of fun features like The History of Halloween, Homer's Favorite Halloween Carols, and Sideshow Bob's Prison Time Amusement Page.

There are also several pages of Where's Waldo?-like drawings where, if you look closely, you can probably spot every resident of Springfield. Look! It's Cletus the slack-jawed yokel. Is that Kang or Kodos juggling the elderly? And, geez - what are they doing to Ned Flanders this time?

Unfortunately, this collection was nowhere near as good as the first one. The stories are silly, almost childish, the artwork isn’t as consistently good, and the characterization is all over the place. The talent involved also wasn’t as impressive - the only name that was somewhat familiar to me was Chuck Dixon, who isn’t my favorite writer by any stretch. A disappointing read overall. I will still check out the next collection, because there will be stories by Garth Ennis, Mark Hamill and Stan Sakai among others. This volume, on the other hand, is totally skippable and not worth the time.

I decided to read this book because of the classic TV show The Simpsons.
as always my favorite character would be Bart Simpson the average prankster boy in the family with only 1 male child.
i really enjoyed this book and thought it was quite funny i specially liked the comic book guys best Halloween costumes. overall it was quite a funny book like stories such as when the super scientist swaps his brain with Bart and Bart becomes super rich and end's up buying every one a latte.
i liked the classic lines of homer that are even seen on the TV show lines like "why you little" and then he chokes Bart for various reasons.
i found it quite funny about the parts where there were fake posters and magazine covers posters like the Simpsons stuck in ice where they end up getting stuck in Apu's fridge in the quicke mart. one thing i liked about that was the classic end ruin-er where they have a comment from spoiler magazine saying "i really like how in the ending they all get" i am going to leave it there because of spoilers

i rate this book a 4/5 because it was funny but some parts didn't get my attention that much but that's just my opinion

The scares continue on into another collection of Simpsons Halloween comics in Bart Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror: Spine-Tingling Spooktacular. This volume includes 6 tales of terror, along with Halloween guides from various characters, Kang and Kodos TV and book ads, Homer’s Halloween songs, and scary stories from Mr. Burns and Grandpa Simpson. The satire is fairly clever and funny, but overall the writing is kind of weak; as character dialog and actions often seem contrived and unnatural. Also, the artwork is rather poor, as each story features a different artistic style; which can be distracting. Still, while it has its failings, Bart Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror: Spine-Tingling Spooktacular is a terrifically entertaining book that delivers a lot of laughs.

This book is very, very, very inappropriate but that's what I like about it. It shows what people are really like, for example, they had aliens taking over the earth and no one was doing anything about it. I think that the author was trying to express that people really don't care, like Chief Wigman was on the sign saying "Support Your Local Watch" but he was just laying down and watching t.v. I liked this book.

I don't know - the Halloween versions of the Simpsons comics don't seem as funny or well thought as the normal ones. It's like they're trying too hard to be funny and scary that they aren't really achieving either goal.

The series really starts to find its voice here independent from the main comic book series.

Experimenting with the animation style & putting characters outside of the family in lead roles, such as one where Apu teams up with Kodos or Professor Frink trying to create his own monster, it really utilizes what ‘Treehouse of Horror’ can do in comics that you couldn’t do on the show.

Dark, surreal & sickly funny, it’s hard to believe it was targeted at kids when it was published. It will please Simpsons fans to see the characters in such unique situations.
