Life of Muhammed

Rate this book
A well-received translation from Arabic, of a classic that was written after examining all the extant Arabic sources on the biography of the Prophet (pbuh), resulting in a work that stands up solidly against modern historical critical methodology.

This biography of the Prophet Muhammad is the first written by a contemporary Muslim scholar. It includes complete coverage of the Prophet's life, a detailed analysis of pre-Islamic Arabia, the situational context of revelation and a comparative study of the basics of Islamic and western civilizations.

I never read this book but i would love to know more about the life of Muhammed Ali, one of the best boxers ever. My family likes boxing, my grandfather was a boxer and he introduced me into it and i love the sport. Thats why i think this book would be interesting and i would spend time reading it.

The life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the founder of the religion of Al-Islam, should be mandatory reading for those who believe, because it helps put the final revelation of God, the holy Qur'an, in proper context based on what was going on exactly as it was being revealed over the 20+ years of Muhammad's prophethood. This particular book is the best of them all. Haykal is a scholar after my own heart, and approached this biography... compiled from the earliest sources of the prophet's life... based on what God said about His messenger in the Qur'an, and not on the legends that the often ridiculous body of believers would say about him. This was my first introduction to high-quality, superior scholarship that wasn't afraid to be unpopular in the eyes of mainstream sentiment in it's efforts to present the Truth.

Haykal was a graduate of Sorbonne and his writing reflects his education, intellect and faith.

I had some disagreement with his views, and some facts he stated differ from other accounts, but his take on things is refreshing and I enjoyed this rather long book. I started it yesterday and finished it today during the long weekend.
