But when things go wrong, Elderoy finds himself not just in the incubus’s sexual thrall, but losing his life force as the demon draws it out of him orgasm by orgasm.

Lilith Duvalier is a shit-broke 20 something who regrets her college double major at least twice a week. After graduating in the worst of the recession she bounced around the state of Minnesota doing jobs that have given her the weirdest resume of anyone she knows. In the course of doing what it took to make rent, Lilith has been vehemently sworn at in most of the USA's regional accents, crashed a 50,000 dollar car into a lamp post, lived in a basement room built out of plywood in an illegal boarding house and was once paid 20 dollars out of the till to leave a Jimmy Johns. During those events she started writing erotica, figuring that her life couldn't get any weirder than it already was, and that the royalty checks would be worth being introduced to people as "the one I told you about".

It has always seemed to me that dabbling in spells and magic when you have no idea what you're doing is a bad idea. This story is about a man who tries just that, only to find out that he is in deep trouble, to the point where his life is endangered. The Steampunk setting adds a nice historical flair to the story while it makes the threat of the incubus he summons even more "real".

Elderoy thinks he has the perfect solution to his problems: recently dumped by his boyfriend, he thinks summoning an incubus for some "delights of the flesh" is just what he needs to alleviate his horniness. He is so sure he can banish the creature back to hell after a night of debauchery, but his insecurity in casting the spell in the first place warned me there might be a problem.

The incubus, of course, is much more powerful than Elderoy had suspected, and manages to prevent him from casting the binding spell that would have given him control. Instead, the beast begins to drain Elderoy's life force by making him come against his will. Again and again, to the point where he faints. Help comes from an unexpected quarter, but breaking the hold of an incubus is not easy.

If you like stories about men who get in over heir heads and won't admit they need help, if you enjoy reading about the magical, occult, and creatures of hell, and if you're looking for a read that is just a little otherworldly, you will probably like this book.

This one was a little different, even if it was a bit predictable. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it when most of the story is Elderoy conversing with himself about his spell to conjure the incubus demon. Not only does he not know what he’s doing, but he doesn’t follow the instructions correctly, causing all sorts of problems, or one problem in particular.

Elderoy is apparently trying to get over a bad breakup and tries to conjure up the incubus for obvious reasons. However, things go a little overboard when he doesn’t seal the demon. Now the demon has power over him, causing him to have multiple, almost debilitating, orgasms. He can think of little else when this flares up and the demon teasing him doesn’t help. Luckily, all was not as it seemed with the ex, and he comes to the rescue in time to counter the spell, ceasing the demon from successfully sucking the life from Elderoy basically out of his cock.

This was cute and even a bit funny. I admit, I kept waiting for the demon to solidify and rock Elderoy’s world in a mutually hot smexy way. Unfortunately, this never happened, but for a short story, this one moved along at a nice pace. A lot happens, yet things don’t ever really drag on for very long. I really only wished for more interaction, with someone other than Elderoy.

Usually when you have a short like this, there is something missing, like details in a characters life or it’s too fast. That honestly was not an issue that I ever came across here. It’s perfectly paced and I loved all the detail and emotion packed in, sneakily hidden amongst the large dosage of humor. Some how and I still don’t know how, the author managed to fit it in and even more interestingly is that it worked.

A Victorian book with a guy who pinning for his lost lover foolishly summons an incubus. Archie spots Elderly on verge of collapse and helps him home. The next day he discovers what Elderoy had done and sets out to save with true love. Archie still loved Elderoy and Elderoy never stopped loving Archie.

3.5 stars. As other reviewers have said, this one is a tad predictable, but cute--yes, "cute" and "fun" are the words that come to mind, even though a demon is involved. The demon is deliciously threatening, but within the genre conventions never truly menacing. The filthy fun doesn't break the mold but the pacing is perfect for a satisfying short story, and I always find Duvalier's prose enjoyable.
