The denial of the European peoples' right to their own heritage, history and even their physical homelands has become part of the cultural fundament of the modern West. Mass immigration, selective and vilifying propaganda, and a constant barrage of perverse or, at best, pointless consumer culture all contribute to the transformation of Europe into a non-entity. Her native population consists mostly of atomistic individuals, lacking any semblance of purpose or direction, increasingly victimised by a political system with no interest in the people it governs. There are many views on how this came to be, but the revolt of May 1968 was certainly of singular importance in creating the apolitical, self-destructive situation that postmodern Europe is in today.
This, however, is no history book. It is not primarily about how this came to be, but rather what can and should be done about it and, more to the point, who will do it. After the treachery of the political, journalistic and academic pseudo-elites and the complacency of an entire generation of Europeans which enabled it, it falls upon the young – the foremost victims of the derailing of Western society – to turn the tide.
In Generation Identity, activist Markus Willinger presents his take on the ideology of the budding identitarian movement in 41 brief and direct chapters. Willinger presents a crystal-clear image of what has gone wrong, and indicates the direction in which we should look for our solutions. Moving seamlessly between the spheres of radical politics and existential philosophy, Generation Identity explains in a succinct, yet poetic fashion what young Europeans must say – or should say – to the corrupt representatives of the decrepit social structures dominating our continent.
This is not a manifesto, it is a declaration of war.
This book also contains an original Foreword by Philippe Vardon, one of the leaders of Bloc Identitaire and the French identitarian youth movement.

Markus Willinger was born in 1992 and grew up in Schärding am Inn, Austria. He has been politically active on the alternative Right since he was fifteen years old, and is now a student of history and political science at the University of Stuttgart. Arktos has published his first book, Die identitäre Generation: Eine Kriegserklärung an die 68er, as well as its English translation, Generation Identity: A Declaration of War Against the '68ers.
A decent manifesto/introduction to the 'identitarian movement'. This time from the German offshoot, written by Markus Willinger, but on a pan-European level that makes the book equally relevant for identitarian groups in other parts of the world, albeit primarily written as an address and 'declaration of war' against the '68'ers and a manifesto for the new identitarian generation.
I didn't know what exactly to expect when getting Generation Identity by Markus Willinger. Now I know: this book is a waste of time.
Having heard about the general topic of the book I was thinking it was going to be an intellectual treaty about the right to identity, an analysis of the damage of identity politics or maybe an analysis of the current generation. Instead I got a pseudo-political manifest stylizing itself as a "declaration of war" against "the 68'ers". Full of whining, hand-wringing and blame, the concoction is mixed with prayer and wishful thinking, though, without any self reflection. This book is a waste of time.
The book offers no solutions. It only exclaims proud proposals to solving multiculturalism, dissolving NATO, protecting the environment, reclaiming cultural identity or creating a future of non-interventionist politics by the "generation identity". This is presented without any shred of analysis, realistic alternatives or even giving a simple plan. We will protect our environment, the author claims, yet only offers quips about living less "richly and luxuriously". Only by wishful thinking can we come to a conclusion that all of our problems will be solved by a simple generation change. This book is a waste of time.
I won't claim that the book doesn't have any good points, especially regarding cultural identity, multiculturalism or immigration policies. Yet a future historian having found Generation Identity might be under the impression that Europe is on the brink of extinction. If it's so bad would the author trade places with somebody living two hundred years back, I wonder? There's always place for improvement and for critique but the author is so utterly defeatist and vitriolic that it almost borders on paranoia. This book is a waste of time.
I wished to have my mind expanded or at least to have some food for thought. Instead I am utterly disappointed by Generation Identity. This book is a waste of time.
It describes the origins and reasons of some problems occuring on Europe now. But it is written in kinda manifesto-ish form which doesn't teach you new things that you don't know by giving you realistic examples regarding that issue. So, that's just a short introduction helps you keep those stuffs on your mind to not fall for another mistake again.
Generation Identity is a manifesto turning against the generation of the 68ers, the men and women, who were the pioneers of sexual revolution and cultural Marxism, the current leaders of the European countries, who decided to instill their ideology upon us. The reader must not expect lengthy arguments which assert the writer’s point of view. As a matter of fact he writes passionately, in order to appeal to the emotion of the reader and his point of view is rather clear: The total denial of cultural Marxism and its currents such as feminism and equality lead to the forming of another ideology, an ideology which supports the preserving of the different cultural, national and religious identities against globalization and its consequences.
The book is divided in 41 chapters and every chapter treats a particular issue, such as religion, economy, politics, democracy, integration. Moreover every chapter displays what the last generation of 68ers did and how the adherents of the Identitarian movement will act. As a matter of fact, the Identitarian movement is considered far-right, however the reader does not use this characterization in order to depict his movement. It is true that his points of view are closer to the right side of politics, but his ideology is very different from what far right was years ago. His thoughts are radical and practical at the same time, he believes that the mass immigration is a problem for Europe but he does not demonize the immigrants, he realizes that the immigrants have different cultures and ways of life and in consequence they can’t and don’t want to be integrated in Europe, because different cultures usually lead to the clash of civilizations and the integration most of the time is a violent way of the globalist camp to equalize every culture, subjugating it and transform its adherents to impassive consumers. Apart from that, the writer is against the multicultural society, as he supports that “We are more disenfranchised than they are. We don’t want Mehmed and Mustafa to become Europeans. We don’t want immigrants to take over our identities and give up their own. They should hold on to their own identities, and let us have ours.” The writer asserts that after the collapse of religion and the death of God religion has become something unthinkable, identitarians cannot obey dogmas anymore so they feel themselves superiors and inferior to fanatics, because they have lost something which gave them meaning. Identitarians are a generation of people who have been brought up in a Europe full of scorn against Christianity and now while masses of immigrants Muslims are coming from Asia they don’t feel the urge to defend the tradition of Christianity, because most of them identify religious belief with fanaticism.
Furthermore the writer is against globalization and universalism. He prefers national pluralism than a globalized capitalist consumer society. He condemns the 68ers that they want to save the world, bring to the world democracy, human rights and capitalism, trying to modernize it and force modernity and progress upon every other culture in the planet. However this stance will lead to more war and clashes rather than peace. Muslim culture for example dislike the globalized dream of peace, they still adhere to their own culture which is very different from the European culture of enlightenment and human rights, very far from the dream of the new utopia that globalists want to establish.
The writer understands democracy only in a direct way. He respects the ancient democracy by saying “When we think of democracy, the image of Athens and the right to participate in the community’s decisions come to mind. We strongly believe that the people have a right not only to participate in these decisions, but to make them entirely of their own accord.” However he seems contrary to the current parliamentary type of democracy, because most of the governments avoid asking people about their policies. Actually they avoid referenda and they only confide to the universities and the nation’s intellectual and cultural elites.
As most of the New Right thinkers Markus Willinger opposes the European Union because its organization promotes the interests of lobbying groups and multinational corporations and shows no interest for the problems of the people of Europe. According to him the national states of Europe have to preserve their sovereignty and form an alliance with the others sovereign states of Europe. It’s apparent that there should be another kind of European Union, based on common and ideals and not the current ambiguous state of affairs which seems to be a failed project.
The writer is against the sexual liberation of the 60s seeing it more as a stranglehold than a movement which liberated men and women. It is true that after the sexual liberation men and women became more promiscuous denying the religious and traditional morality of Christianity which consecrated sex only inside the marriage. The boundaries which tradition and Christianity set were valuable as guide posts which lead to a life of meaning whereas sexual liberation created unbridled men and women without a concrete aim and slaves to their desires. Moreover men have become feeble, “lacking the power to act, lacking courage, strength and the will to power”, while women have been convinced that femininity is outdated and socially constructed. The truth is that women nowadays care more about their careers and how to look in the eyes of others while most of them do not want to raise families and do not know how to run a household. Men are not better, most them are addicted to porn or lose themselves in the constructed world of video games. Nevertheless the writer is more positive to this form of escapism which is video games saying that “There one finds that which no longer exists in the real world – a community to belong to, solidarity, great heroic deeds, authentic chivalry, and true love. In fact, video games are for many of us, the last possibility to somehow perform heroic deeds, experience epic battles, achieve victory in combat, and overcome defeat”
While not being thoroughly racist the writer seems to advocate a view of racial realism. Of course we cannot judge all the people according their color of their skin. However there are real differences between human beings. There are different races and tribes with different identities and cultures. I think that the writer is right asking the following question “But is everyone who believes that there are different peoples, cultures, and identities and that this is good, really a racist?” Unfortunately the last thirty years or more there is a hideous propaganda of equalization of nations and races which wants us to believe that we are all the same. The most dangerous and unfounded assumption that globalists make is that all people are equally capable in the terms of human capital. Therefore, the replacement of European population by Asians and Africans will have no effect because in the eyes of capitalists all people are just workers and consumers. Of course, such a case belongs to the realm of fantasy, since the differences between races and nations are true in intelligence and personality. Apart from this they have systematically recorded. In conclusion we can say that Generation Identity is a good book for someone who wants to learn about some ideas of the New Right without rigorous analysis and many arguments. Generation Identity is a starting book for young people who bring in question the current system of affairs and have political consciousness and the ability to fight for a new Europe, a Europe of tradition and nationality.
Two stars for poetic and creative writing style, but the lack of arguments in this book was infuriating. This is a Gramscian far-right manifesto, but the book already presumes that the reader is a extreme conservative racist, so it does not try to argue for its world view, only to criticize the current "Multicultural" society (the writer conflates Social democracy, Neo-cons, Neo-liberalism and multiculturalism as one and the same ideology).
The arguments that are for the Identitarian ideology are text book arguments for fascism, like the need for a rebirth of a nation, militarism, extreme conservatism, racism and a wish to die in a heroic and legendary way in a battle. The strongest argument in this book is the section against mass immigration, but it falls flat, when the solution for the idea of "white genocide" is wage. The book argues that the immigrants must "go back where they came from", but how? No answers.
All the solutions and programs for attaining political power are wage as well. The most concrete thing that the writer says is that the culture needs to be steered to their direction (like Gramsciam theory of cultural hegemony prescribes). The end game is also wage, the book argues for a vision of a isolated Europe of proud white hero warriors, but how that would work in a globalized world are not described. For example Karl Marx "The Communist manifesto" is very detailed in how to start creating a communist society.
The most novel thing in this book is the theses of "etno pluraism" that is a more politically correct way of saying segregation. Then of course the Identitarians are in favor of direct democracy (that of course would mean dictatorship of majority)
Owerall a very bad manifesto that plays more on pre-existing emotions that with logic, facts and arguments.
A call to arms for a generation that has been thoroughly sold out by its elders.
Willinger does not use the phrase cultural Marxism, but that is how the things he despises would be characterized in the United States. The Boomer generation sacrificed family and children to their own selfish desires. They divorced on a whim, paying no attention to the children who were brought up lonely and unattended in front of TV sets broadcasting pictures of perfection that their lives would never experience. They became alienated. One paragraph strikes home: "No one showed us how to build a family, or how to stick together or resolve the conflict. We have failed a thousand times in trying to realize our ideal."
He is equally brutal on the subject of the sexes, and sexual ambiguity. It is totally refreshing to see something so honest, so politically incorrect emerge from Europe:
"Of all the battles you’ve fought, your battle against the sexes was the most reprehensible. Instead of the harmonious union of men and women, you’ve promoted alliances of [redacted by Amazon – gays and cross-dressers], the union of nothingness.
"You’ve taken the manliness out of men. You’ve raised them to be feeble teddy bears lacking the power to act, lacking courage, lacking strength — in short, the will to power.
"You’ve convinced women that femininity is outdated and socially constructed. You’ve told them that it’s not necessary to look pretty and healthy, not necessary to have families and children, and that only their careers matter.
"So it was that the womanly men and the manly women met, and didn’t know what to do.
This book is full of youthful angst towards things that are wrong in today's society. And I agree with most of the statements. Yet the reasoning for who is to blame is totally crazy. Are we supposed to keep the whole generation of baby boomers in contempt just because a few degenerate hippies in academia brainwashed some students back in the '60s? If I strolled out the door to the street right now and accused random person in his sixties or seventies for degeneracy of today's youth I would definitely get punched in a face and rightly so. Absolute majority of average people should not be blamed for what is happening today, because they are victims themselves. The perpetrators of downfall of western society are "enlightened" leftists sitting in academia, brainwashing class after class of clueless students. The only way we can fight against them is by giving a lesson of how to live by our own example. Work hard, be a patriot, have a family, don't abuse substances, attend a local church, don't participate in a degeneracy. That is all it takes. And let the "enlightened" gender-less leftists enjoy their life choices. And at the end of the day we will see who was truly happy.
I had to endure some insults here and there, to cringe at some parts, but it does the job of introducing the reader to the thinking of the "identitarian movement" in Europe. I wouldn't say it presents valid, well built arguments, rather some comments on the current stance of politics in Europe regarding mass-migration, abortion, sexes, left/right politics....etc. The topic requires more reading. . tl;dr: concise, hits a nerve but vague.
Drivel. The author works his way throuh a well trodden path of the malaises of western society. There is no arguments here you don't find better presented other places. The only claim this book has to originality is that all the blame is squarely placed at the shouders of the 68 generation.
Some interesting points, but really perfectly set up for misuse of any far right political party in Europe. There is also quite a wealth of contradictions to be found, but my favourite is this: Generation Identity is blaming the 68ers for spreading hate and claims that they want to spread love, and they subsequently declare war on the 68er generation. (Yes, this book is not a manifesto, "it is a declaration of war") So, contradictions mixed with a long list of things the 68ers destroyed and did wrong, followed by not one concrete idea of how to change the situation except for insisting on that we need "clearly marked borders" makes this "declaration of war" rather tedious - especially because the hate-mongering choice of words is then paradoxically interchanged with notions that are reminiscent of German Romanticism.
A great introduction to the cultural identitarian philosophy. While it doesn't offer much in terms of solutions to the sociological issues facing Europe and the United States, Willinger does present a thought-provoking condemnation of unchecked immigration and the decline of traditionalism, and the inherent dangers these pose to both societies. The concept of ethopluralism as a replacement to multiculturalism seems to be a poignant solution to the demographic issues facing Western nations as well as the rest of the world. A great starting point for anyone interested in learning more about European cultural identity.
This is an awful book. It consists of incomplete comments on various issues that sound like they were written by someone trying to be "edgy". The basic premise of the book, pinning all of the world's woes on one generation, is over simplified and of no use. This is by far the worst book from Arktos that I've read.
