You may know Jimmy Failla as the best dressed man in cable news. A force multiplier of positive energy on the radio who sounds like he gets paid in Tequila and Tide Pods. But he’s also a former New York City Taxi Driver who’s spent countless hours conversing with people from all over this planet and several planets you’ve never heard of. It’s those chats with hobbits, hookers, and time travelers that fill The Cancel Culture Dictionary with the unique perspective and savage self-awareness we need to escape the outrage era society is stuck in.
Let’s face it. Life in this country was WAY better before the Smart Phone came along and made us infinitely dumber. Social Media has turned our “shining city on a hill” into a Real Housewives episode on Bravo where every day is a constant cat fight about politics. Weaponized censorship and runaway speech policing has left many people unable to tell the difference between a comedian and a criminal. Although to be fair, sometimes they’re the same, in Bill Cosby’s case.
But if there’s one thing we can all be sure of, it’s that spending the past 10 years with our faces glued to our phones has made us crankier, crazier, and much fatter, despite what the Instagram Filters show you.
This book is a collection of naughty jokes and nutty people whose stories guide us to a world where we don’t spend all day slugging it out on Twitter, X, or whatever dumb name Elon Musk gives it next time he gets stoned. No, it's not an actual dictionary, although the author should probably spend more time reading one. Think of it as a ridiculous roadmap to a time where life didn’t revolve around the Republican Party and the Democratic Party because we were all too focused on The Keg Party. And unlike other works devoted to the cancel craze, we'll show how the people who lost the most with each celebrity firing were everyday Americans who had nothing to do with it.
Cancel Culture and the outrage era have dragged us all into a war on fun. But this book is not a call to arms, girlfriend. If anything, it’s a call to chill the f**k out.
So hop in, shut the door, and don’t waste time fiddling with the seatbelt. The way we’re about to drive, it can’t help you anyway.
I laughed out loud twice. The rest of the book, I just smiled a lot. Funnier than Seinfeld. I hope to someday see one of your comedy shows. Love your Saturday night show Jimmy. Love from an ardent fan. Nancy
A fantastic read about the stupidity and craziness of the woke crowd and their cancel culture philosophy. So many highlights in this books. Love Jimmy and his TV show too
A humorous explanation of wokeness. Failla pointed out the stupidity of Cancel culture, exposed its hypocrisy. Wrote it so it sounded like it was one of his “stand up” gigs. Loved the book.
How funny the world is. Human frailty and illogical behavior is really a cause for joy. Great read for anybody trying to see humor in today's crazy world.
I don't usually read political comedy books, but this one appealed to me based on the "D" entry that hit one of my pet peeves: canceling Dr Seuss.
Random House withdrew 6 Dr Seuss titles for their "racist and insensitive" imagery. I hadn't read 5 of them and immediately decided to purchase the books. But word had gone out - as of that morning there were no copies of these books on the shelves of any bookseller, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Ebay, etc, (though "Mein Kampf" and other racist screeds were plentiful). I did find the canceled Seusses at used book sites for several hundred dollars each. I eventually read all of them thanks to the public library and purchased 3 of them once the price had gone down. Ted Geisel, aka Dr Seuss, was a product of his time, and helped introduce millions of children to the joys of reading. Judging him by Random House's woke standards really ticked me off.
So, I read Failla's book, and while I don't agree with all of his opinions, he made me laugh. He pointed out that in a free society if you don't like what someone says, you're free to ignore it. You shouldn't try to silence everyone with whom you disagree. There are a lot of books, music, movies, etc that I find offensive, and I've yet to try to stop their production. Failla argues convincingly that none of these cancelations have helped any of the "victims".
Jimmy Failla is a wisecracking NYC cab 🚕 driver who’s snarky comments about the powerful & envious people involved with Cancel Culture. He pokes fun at anyone indulging in hypocrisy or double standards equally regardless of their side of the political aisle. He says things like:
Hundreds of conservatives have been greeted on campus by Antifa groups who claim to be fighting fascism by stifling the speech rights of people they don’t agree with. Because nothing says you’re against dictatorships like silencing your opponents with violence. It’s like saying you’re against gambling and you hold a poker tournament to raise money for the cause. That’s the saddest thing about today’s campus culture warriors: they possess such a stunning lack of self-awareness. Whereas yesterday’s students were opposing wars and taking rebellious Or, No matter what it says on your business card, if you die tomorrow, you’re quickly going to realize that the whole point of being here was to have a good time. You’re not gonna look around the room for one more thing to be offended by. And you’re not gonna log on to social media to trash a random stranger for the road. No, if anything, you’re gonna wish you had a few more of those moments of isolated joy where you’re laughing yourself senseless, with no regard for who agrees with your punch line.
I liked reading the humor in this book. Unlike another book I read that was self help but a lot of political commentary, which I did not like nor appreciate. I was prepared in this novel as the author does modern day political and life commentary through humor. The humor makes you laugh when the events around us sometimes make you want to cry. Whether you follow the authors beliefs or not it is a quick and funny read. Especially thinking about all the issues in today’s world. First comedy book I’ve read beyond actually joke, riddle, and kids comics. Loved it.
While I'm not a huge fan of Failla's style of delivery, I enjoy the heck out of his observations. He is most definitely against PC ideology, and that, I sipport whole-heartedly. He oozes common sense, which is a trait often hard to find in today's America. I don't agree with 100% of his stances, but my approval hovers around 95%. Well worth reading; he's smarter than he might seem at first glance. Good job, Jimmy!
This is a funny book! It shows how we as a society are more wrapped up in being politically correct than in making each other smile and laugh (and ourselves, too). I read it slowly, over several weeks, simply because I needed a reason to laugh instead of stressing about life. I wanted to stretch out those amusing moments with Jimmy Faila. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs some humor (and sadly that's most of us)!
I loved when I read the book I had Jimmy's voice in my head! The book is written just like he talks, such an easy read. I am a independent but I cannot argue his points and they were surprisingly balanced. Serious topics in a written in a way that I can laugh even though the subjects anger me. Definitely recommend
I listened to this book on Audible, it was read by Jimmy himself and I loved it. It makes you laugh from start to finish, he tells the way the world truly is. And mocks the idiots who think they are protecting the world by cancelling everything from A-Z, you will laugh along with Jimmy, while at the same time your blood boils a bit about the hypocrisy of it all. Sit back and enjoy.
And Right on Target!! We need much more of his common sense and humor in this world!! The world needs to start laughing at ourselves again. Thank you Jimmy!
Well written, well researched, and fun. Jimmy is spot on in his assessment of the true motivations of the Cancel Mobs and his humorous sideswipes at much of the other ludicrous lefty foolishness. A bit crude at times, but that is Jimmy.
This book is very funny. You’d think it would be very conservative, and it’s not, it’s just not all liberal like most of these comedians books. But it certainly leans right. But I think it’s funny for all.
Very funny and insightful. He says the things most of us think. If we actually talked (and listened) to each other (commonly referred to as conversation,) the world would be a better place to live rather than just exist. Amen to this book.
This is the funniest book I have read in a long time! Jimmy Failla is a comedian and Fox News contributor and this book made me LMAO all the way through!
