Synopsis - Pog is a little monster. He is as brave as a bathtub full of sharks. But every night he checks under his bed, inside the toybox, behind the door and inside his cupboard, because he is very afraid....of children.
I loved this book! The illustrations were fantastic. The story is a really good one about the youngest monster (Pog) facing his fears (about children) by looking at what is the case (a lost and scared young boy) rather than automatically depending on his preconceived notions (children are scary) like the rest of his family.
I liked Pog the monster. At first he was afraid of children, but when he saw a child crying he didn't run away like Vandal. And he remained the bravest monster.
Pog by Lyn Lee is a great book for children. We’re all afraid of something. This book is a good example of how things can seem a lot worse than they really are. Pog is a boy monster who is six and a half feet tall and not afraid of anything. Well, there is one exception. He’s afraid of children! Before going to bed every night, he checks under the bed, in his toy box, and in the closet to ensure no children are waiting there to frighten him. Pog has a colorful family with lots for eccentricities, just as any family does. His brother, Vandal, walks Pog to school every day to keep him safe from any scary children. However, he’s not very good at his job because when a child shows up, he leaves Pog all alone with the child. In the end, Pog conquers his fears and shows his family he’s braver than they all gave him credit for.

Are children afraid of monsters or are monsters afraid of children?
I love it when there are picture books that flip children's fears in a really fun way that flips their expectation and allows children to broach that topic and face that fear.

Cleverly reversed as a monster (Pog) is scared of children under his bed, in his wardrobe, in his toy box and behind the door. When Pog meets a child he realised they aren't quite as scary as he first thought. A lovely story of how misconceptions can be changed by facing fears. Brilliant illustrations.
Pretty poor as far as children’s books go: 1) no clear moral; 2) too much text to say too little; 3) dark and dull colours used throughout; 4) imagery too small; etc etc.
