Jane Jordan brings new levels of reality to dark fiction in her new novel "Ravens Deep".
When Madeline Shaw arrives at the desolate house of "Ravens Deep" to take time out of her life in London and write her novel, she is unprepared for what she finds. Despite the remote location of the house, she is never short of company in the form of her mysterious neighbour, Darius.
His enchanting nature and their mutual respect form a basis for attraction but Darius is guarded with Madeline, not seeming to trust himself to get too close. In turn Madeline feels that she must work to break down these barriers and accept Darius for all that he is, whatever he is.
Contrasting the clashing worlds of the central characters, featuring opposing emotions: naivety versus experience, possession over understanding, Jane Jordan draws on many modern day conflicts. This story of love and friendship breaks the rules and makes no apologies for it, as the lovers struggle to deal with conflicting feelings, death and fear in supernatural and devastating circumstances.
A perfect mixture of heart warming emotions and gut wrenching fear. Not a story for the faint-hearted.
Jane was born in in England, and grew up exploring the history and culture of London and surrounding counties. After some time spent in Germany in the 1990’s she immigrated to Detroit, USA, eventually settling in South West Florida.
She returned to England after a fifteen year absence, to spend six years in the South West of England living on Exmoor. Here, inspired by the atmosphere, beautiful scenery and the ancient history of the place, she wrote her first novel Ravens Deep. The next two books Blood & Ashes and A Memoir of Carl completed her gothic vampire trilogy.
Jane is a trained horticulturist, and spent time working and volunteering for Britain’s National Trust at Exmoor’s 1000 year old Dunster Castle. Gaining more insight into the history and mysteries surrounding these ancient places, and having always been intrigued by the supernatural, inspiration came for her fourth novel, The Beekeeper’s Daughter. Combining the age old struggle between good and evil with the passion and romance of the characters she creates.
Jane Returned to Florida in 2013, and lives in Sarasota with her family.
Beautiful dark gothic vampire romance!! Jane Jordan is a exceptional writer her words flow with beauty and her stories draw you in with such vivid detail and description. This is a novel of passion, suspense and destined love with characters that are simply amazing. When Madeline a writer is invited by mr. Chambers to his home in ravens deep to work on her book, from the moment she walks into the long abandoned estate she feels a presence and like she's being watched. When she meets the dark and mysterious darius theirs a instant attraction, but this handsome stranger has many secrets and as the days go by Madeline is falling more in love with him even though darius can be charming and seductive one minute but when he becomes angry he becomes violent and scary! What is he hiding? And when she knows the truth will she see the man or the monster!😉💋
Mild spoilers- I've read this book several times. I always come back to it when I want something dark and brooding. This is not a happy story. Yes, it is a romance but it is a highly toxic one where the main character is slowly drawn into the darkness and she is so blinded by her feelings that she can't see what the relationship is doing to her.
On many a chapter, I really want to slap some sense into Madeline, she is being manipulated but as in many a relationship it is very easy to see this from the outside and it speaks well of her character that I wanted her to see what I could see.
There was an error or two which is why not 5 stars- plus Madeline seems to live in her own head a lot and this can get irritating when she is speculating on a situation at great length.
Other than that, a good read but not for everyone- if you don't like a dark and gothic tone that never lifts, then this is not something you will want to read. That is exactly what I like about Raven's deep, however. It is good to see a vampire character that is not sanitised and 'cleaned up' for the 21st century and Darius is just that. Teetering on evil and he knows it. Darius hates himself and brings all that into the relationship- he even tries to keep Madeline from him, realising he is corrupting her or as he puts it 'I warp your reality.'
I think I will be reading the sequel. I need to know how they end.

i was trawling through kindle store looking for a good read and i found it with this its brilliant like ana and christian in fifty shades, keira and dominic in afterlife you get totally hooked on the two characters darius and madeline, darius sexy and brooding madeline not afraid to stand up to him.Ive read all three in the series and have loved every book the last book a memoir to carl is great, not about madeline and darius but they feature a few times through the story.I love these books and now can read them again and again on my kindle.Give them a go but read them all in order you wont be disappointed i wasnt....brilliant.
There’s something hauntingly beautiful about "Ravens Deep" by Jane Jordan that completely pulled me in from the very first page… like stepping into a dream you’re not sure you want to wake up from. 🖤🌫️
Madeline’s journey feels both eerie and deeply emotional as she’s drawn into the mysterious world of Ravens Deep—a place that feels alive with secrets. The atmosphere is so vividly written, I could almost feel the cold coastal air of Exmoor and hear the silence of the woods pressing in. And then there’s Darius… enigmatic, intense, and impossible to ignore. Their connection isn’t just romantic—it’s consuming, dangerous, and almost fated.
What I loved most is how the story balances gothic suspense with a modern, emotional depth. It’s not just about supernatural elements or vampire lore—it’s about longing, choice, and the kind of love that asks you to risk everything. 🩸✨
The tension between staying safe and surrendering to something dark and irresistible felt so real. By the end, I was completely captivated… and honestly, a little haunted too.
Really good beginning, great Gothic feel. I loved the story line. I wish that the hero was a little more "gentle" kind....but we are talking about a vampire here, not Edward Cullen. I wanted more sympathy & love in him...but got the traditional vampire feel....(which was fine! but wouldn't be my choice.) Loved this first book....did not like the sequel.
A good read - quite a moral dilemma that book clubs could discuss. Some bits that made me uncomfortable (like a horror movie) but got to the end. Be careful who you recommend this book to.
