Elle should have believed her father when he was spouting his crazy the-end-is-near ideas. Because the end came and went and now she's alone in the middle of nowhere--doomed to dwell in the darkness because of the impossible sun that rules over the barren land.
One simple, ordinary night everything changed. The night Elle met Tex. The night where she learned about a paradise, completely opposite of the dry, dusty life she had been living. Now Elle and Tex must defy all odds as they find themselves on a journey that will change them forever--a journey that will threaten to tear them apart in more ways than one.
Let yourself be swallowed up in this tale of suspense, betrayal, and love.
I loved this story! I was absolutely enthralled the entire time, there was never a dull moment, and it was full of nail biting suspense and awe-striking surprises. I felt like I was there; the author did a great job showing me everything and made me feel it all as if I lived the action, the adventure and the romance. I honestly got teary a few time and certainly laugh out loud often. The natural disasters were so intense, and the relentless will to survive was uncanny. Who would have though that the end of the world as we know it could be such a thrill. I have been thinking about the characters and the scenery ever since I read it and I can't wait for book 2! .
I love dystopia/apocalypse/zombie books but the authors of these books need to really be able to make you live in the moment of the book. Unfortunately this author never really had me there.
I had high expectations for this one. I feel like lately all I am writing is negative reviews. Where is the character development? This girl, Elle, who has been left a lone for 5 years is all smiles, sane and trusting? Really? 5 years of not being outside of her shelter and seeing anyone else and she just goes a long with a total stranger. No development of how she has coped and what it has done to her. At least Gabrielle's back story has a little more to it and a slight bit more understanding. But the coincidence and the likelihood of what happened with Elle's father is just to much for me to take in. That aside the story line was interesting. I would have liked the author to delve deeper into each scenario that happened and explored the reactions and feelings of the characters more. I never felt connected to them. I didn't care one way or another if they made it to Eden. There was so much potential as I turned each page but I was left wanting more to the story. Then I got to the end and just said "OH PLEASE, give me a break."
I actually really enjoyed this book. After reading other reviews I was skeptical, but ended up being pleasantly surprised by this book. It's fairly short, I was able to read it in a couple of hours, but I felt like I did get a good grasp of the story. The story line moves along quickly. I thought this was an interesting take on the end-of-days. I also felt like the author stayed true to the mentality of the heroine. I read some reviews that complained of her happy disposition after all she's been through... I felt it was a genuine reaction. After being alone for so long, wouldn't we all crave camaraderie? This could have been dragged out into a "The Stand"-ish book, but I feel like the length of the book was perfect for this story. I almost lean towards 5 stars here. Oh, and I rarely write more than one sentence per review - this book definitely got me thinking. An enjoyable evening read.
Well written, lots of drama .Elle has been living on her own in a bunker for 4and a half years when she decides that she wants to venture into the little town for supplies. She meets a man also looking for supplies . They both set out on a adventure to find eden and hopefully survive the apocalypse.
I didn't love nor hate this book. It had a interesting story to it and the characters were a little believable. I liked "Tex" (won't say actual name due to a spoiling it) more than Elle. Maybe because his character to me was just the right amount of angst and real vs. Elle who in her own way was real but some of her maturity factors kinda drove me insane sure she was holed up in a bunker for five years but damn she's 23! The end of the world events were interesting to read about as well. I found some things predictable and others not but hey its getting to be like that with most books read. Enjoyable but not something I will re-read over and over like most others.
I bought this on Amazon bc it was recommended to me and it was cheap. If you've read a lot of YA dystopian novels, don't bother with this one. The plot falls short and isn't very original. There's also quite a bit of swearing and is lacking in its character development. Just ok. It was kind of a waste of my time...
Finding Eden had great potential. World-wide destruction, adventure, romance...and then the ending. I can normally put aside my science background and suspend disbelief, but I cannot suspend that far. I will forgive a lot, but that ending was just lazy.
