While picnicking at Willow Lake, the Mystery Kids don't pay much attention when they spot a man rowing to the small island. However, when another man rows there as well, shortly after the first one has departed, the children's suspicious are aroused.
What could be happening in such a peaceful and desolate spot? What secret does the island hold? Why is Mr Peterson acting so suspiciously?
Set in 1950's Britain, this adventure story will suit anyone who enjoys Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys or the Famous Five.
Paul Moxham hails from Melbourne, Australia. He's best known for his children's mystery series which follows Joe, Amy, Sarah, and Will as they have adventures in 1950's Britain.
I enjoyed this book because it had all the ingredients that one would expect from a mystery story. The main characters Will, Amy, Joe and Sarah (the gang) are having a day out, but when their friend Colin is found not to be available, the gang become somewhat suspicious! Some strange and unexpected behaviour by Mr Peterson (Colin's Dad) only proves to 'light their flame'! The gang's clever bluff to Mr Peterson pays off! and the story takes a sudden and unexpected twist. Mr Peterson decides to confide with the gang and working together, the challenge to find the missing Colin turns out to be eventful, action-packed and good entertainment. I would have liked to have seen some illustrations to enhance this very well written story. I would recommend this story to readers aged seven years and over. It's engaging and good fun!
A wonderful adventure and mystery story for 7-14+!
What an adventure story this was! Of a man and woman wanting to male some easy money so they kidnapped this one man's son and kept asking for ransom money...l But eventually they may get caught. Read and find out just what will happen. Because this was a neat story with a lot of clean suspense involved I feel it needs a five star rating. Also would recommend this especially or those ages 7-14 but I think anyone who enjoys a clean reads and shorter ebooks and who remembers Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys and enjoyed these would also enjoy his stories as much. I received this ebook for free and in return for being able to read it and then shares how good it is I am now giving it an honest review in return. Super work Paul! By Angela

What did I like? I loved the interplay between the friends in this one. They are such good friends and helping each other is important to them. When things go downhill, they each stand by the other. The other thing I like is the relationship between the brother and sisters. They play off each other but they make sure that each never has their feelings hurt. It is also wonderful that all their activities are outside, bike riding, picnics, the beach, and building sandcastles, all of these are healthy activities. They even include board games played together. That is something that our kids today need to learn how to do.
What will you like? Great action, tense excitement, short but a great storyline. The story is well told and wonderfully written. The characters are just awesome with great tenderness between them. Even the bad guys are ok in this one. The best part is that this is a quick read but with an excellent story. All your kids will be excited to have this one in your library and so will you. A great teacher of caring about others.

Mystery of the Mysterious Man by Paul Moxham The kids are out and about and Will wants to meet up with his other friend but he's visiting his uncle but he discovers things aren't right. The kids follow the clues to see the dad going to the island and then coming home and then noticing others who visit the island. Will doesn't think his friend is at the uncle's at all and they all combine clues to find out what is going on. Great read!
The Mystery of the Mysterious Man — Paul Moxham - June 10, 2017
I have read other books by Mr. Moxham, and this short story is no different. These are generally best for middle school readers. I think if you have trouble getting your kids to read at this age, this short story series by him could be a great way to entice them. They are super short; not scary at all; and are set during the 1950’s, when days were “simpler” and values are “just.” Even though the values tend to run where girls take secondary places behind boys, the two girls in these stories tend to have a little bit better time of overcoming those dated obstacles (think younger versions and not as sophisticated as Nancy Drew.)
This one concerns a missing boy and a quick adventure to find him. Amy and Sarah are the predominate mystery solvers this time. The story is complete from beginning to end. The reader doesn’t need to have read any of the other stories before to enjoy this standalone mystery. (Although the author indicates, and this reviewer agrees, that reading the first, longer story in the series, The Mystery of Smuggler’s Cove, is best to fill in background of the characters involved.)
