Roses in December: Comfort for the Grieving Heart

Rate this book
Used for years by individuals, grief counselors, and support groups, Roses in December has helped readers understand the grieving process, support family members, give insight into sibling grief, and maintain their marriages during difficult times. This newly revised edition offers the same compassion and encouragement plus chapters on losing loved ones under special circumstances, such as suicide and AIDS. With deep empathy, Marilyn helps those who are grieving find God’s comfort. Having lost three sons, she knows the tremendous sorrows and struggles that come with the death of loved ones. Yet she shares how even in the winters of our lives God provides roses―special occasions, special people, and special memories―to give us strength and draw close to Him.

I first read this when I was a tween. I have since bought/recommended it for others who have lost their children. I read it because a close friend had been in a car accident losing her son. Then a couple months later another friend lost her life to a car accident. Then... a couple months after that I lost another friend and her children, also in a car accident. All due to a drunk driver hitting them. Every. Single. One. My mother had purchased this book, because she had heard about it from a coworker, so after she was done, I read it. She has bought it several times to give to others. It truly helps with the grieving process. Written by a mother who lost her child and everything she went through. It will make you cry. And even if you don't have children, which I didn't at the time I first read it, it gives you an in-depth glimpse into what mothers go through when they lose a child.

My mom gave me this book after I lost my husband in 2019 and it was helpful. It had some comforting words. I recommend it.
