Love Boxes

Rate this book
Fancy Ford is a little darling in pig tails, but the grandson of the lady next door thinks she's a spoiled brat. Every year her parents spend the summer at the family cottage in Charlevoix, Michigan. The story begins in 1991 as Fancy waits on the dock for her Uncle to come sailing through the Pine River Channel. What she can't know is her life is about to change forever more. Fancy's Uncle Ted soon discovers there are only three things that make her laugh: playing pool, karaoke, and parties. He uses this knowledge to help her when she tells him she hates school and never wants to return. This Northern Michigan travel fiction is the first book in the Love Boxes Trilogy. It is a sweet old-fashioned love story––a trip down memory lane––as well as a mystery. It's historically based with fifty photos included.

Gigi’s first attempt to write was in orange crayon. She wrote across a Robert Lewis Stevenson’s poem: “The world is full of a number of things, I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings.”

To this day the sentiment often comes to mind––it pretty much wraps up how she feels about life in general.

She writes faction––fictional adventures happening in factual locations––ones that didn't happen, but could have.

Her illustrated stories often take place on the shores of Little Traverse Bay and Lake Charlevoix in Northern Michigan. Others happen in the Northwest and the Northeast where she's been known to ride the rails coast-to-coast rather than fly.

The author has written speeches, and tributes, as well as a commercial copy for brochures, booklets, and packaging. Since junior high school, she has sent award winning poems and letters to the rich and famous––some have replied.

One was delivered in the middle of a current history class by special delivery. It was from a sitting president of the United States of America. Another she particularly treasures, is from First Lady Barbara Bush, who commented on their mutual love of the twelve volume 1937 children's books––My Book House. The set, enhanced with beautiful colored illustrations, holds hundreds of stories written by famous authors. She credits the volumes––a gift from her grandmother––as inspiration for the illustrated books she's in the process of creating today.

In the future she hopes to write historical fiction for children based on her research and recollections. “What they learn,” she says, “in a pleasurable way, is long remembered.”

Her most recent work includes: (A) The Love Box Series–– Love Boxes: A Love Story from Northern Michigan to Points Beyond, Love Boxes 2: The Vacation, Love Boxes 3: The Twilight Zone, and Love Boxes 4: The Bay View Cottage. (B) The Paradise Trilogy––Paradise: A Love Story from Petoskey to Harbor Springs, Paradise 2: A Love Story from Cross Village to Harbor Springs, Paradise 3: A Love Story from Harbor Springs to Sausalito. Each of the seven books is complete or can be enjoyed sequentially.

Galt's love of genealogy, history, music, art, antiques, and old house restoration is reflected in her fantasies. She draws from this, as well as from her memories of growing up in Northern Michigan and spending summer vacations at the family cottage. I love the sweetness of this story! Fancy, when really young faces a tragedy that possibly changed the course of her life. Her uncle brings around a myriad of help to give this young lady very special life. It depicts the good in this world.
I love reading about wonderful real places even though the story is fiction. The photos are beautiful. I'm ready to visit some of these places!

Delightful summer read! Travel Fiction? A first for me. I grew up in the area and go back to visit whenever I can, so it was especially enjoyable for me. Even if I had not, I still would have enjoyed it. Refreshing and fast moving. I also found the historical aspects enjoyable and found out things about the area I didn’t know. Looking forward to reading the second book.
