·         The ingathering of God’s people, and the ways Israelis are hearing from God today
·         Significant prophetic patterns discovered in the lunar cycle
·         Awe-inspiring testimonies to God’s glory spelled out in the night sky
·         Glimpses of God’s future kingdom revealed in the stories of well-known figures from Scripture

For decades, author and pastor Ray Bentley has partnered with God’s people in Israel, including Judea and Samaria, the area known as the West Bank. IMO this is a dangerous book for anyone not already reasonably well-versed in Biblical scholarship. I read it because a woman I know who is a follower of Pastor Ray (who died of Covid and who’s son inherited his lucrative ministry, because, of course he did - gotta keep it in the family) gave me the book in hopes that it would speak to me. It did, just not in the way she prayed for. I held onto the book for several years, but finally read it. I wish I could unread it because it saddens me so much that people are lapping this stuff up and giving so much money to this church.

First - this is a Christian Zionist appeal. Pasor Ray is committed to facilitating his perception of end times by funneling a lot of money towards supporting the illegal settlements in the West Bank. He has no interest in Middle East peace because he believes that Israel must be restored in entirety, the Temple Mount reclaimed, and the Temple rebuilt so Jesus can come again.

Second - Pastor Ray is very involved in prophecy including astronomical predictions, and in tetrads of blood moons, horoscopes, the Jewish calendar and numerology, and more. It gets a little cray-cray to be honest.

Pastor Ray was converted by his pastor Chuck Smith (of the Jeus People fame) who ordained him after what appears to be no formal religious eductaion. His cast of characters in the book include the “African pastor from Rhodesia” (I kid you not) who prophesied that Netanyahu would regain power, and his good friend Ron Nachman, the founder of one of the West Bank’s first and largest Jewish settlements, Ariel. His church here in San Diego has helped fund numerous development projects in Ariel (the radio broadcast station among them). His book concludes with a list and description of various Christian Zionist organizations to support.

He cherry picks information, exaggerates (as in stating there are a few million Christians in Iran due to modern evangelism (I checked the numbers which are way way off)), and never goes very deep into any explanations. His Biblical scholarship is biased and naive and not grounded on any legitimate academic religious study that I can tell. In fact, in his introduction he discourages academic biblical study - it’s all about how that Holy Spirit moves you.

So, contrary to my no-longer friend, this book did not inspire me to convert, but terrified me about the very real and dangerous goings on in this sect of Christianity. It makes me sad that Christian Zionists are being so used by Jewish West Bank settlers to fund their cause. This group is actively working at very high levels to discourage any peaceful settlement in this region - especially if it involves two states or land concessions. And they have a lot of power.

I suggest reading this or some related book just so you can understand the perspective, motivations, and significance of this large group of well funded zealots. According to sources I found they are about 30 million strong in the US. More than enough to sway important elections and influence US policy.

In The Holy Land Key Ray Bentley ties history, current events, phenomena in the skies, and Israel’s feasts and festivals with prophecy to develop a holistic view of Israel’s place in history past, present, and future. The ideas he puts forward have developed over decades of trips to Israel and relationships with individuals living there, both Jews and Gentiles.

I appreciated the principles of interpreting Scripture and history that Bentley presents.

He suggests that to hasten end-time events with “... God’s glory being poured out for the final and greatest harvest the world has ever seen...” we need to adhere to God’s order: “.... for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans 1:16-17). In other words, more than ever Christians need to reach out in love to the Jewish people (Kindle Location 666).

He maintains that to understand and interpret prophecy, it’s important to recognize the patterns in scripture. One pattern that he identifies is “first natural, then spiritual” as Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 10:11 (K.L. 1687).

A principle of interpreting prophetic passages that flows out of this is similar: “... look first for the natural meaning of the scripture and then for a spiritual meaning” (K.L. 1725).

He gives a lot of significance to signs in the heavens, drawing permission from Genesis 1:14, which says about the lights God created: “... let them be for signs and seasons.” His explanation of how, in the past, blood moons have correlated with dramatic developments in Israel is fascinating. The fact that two more blood moons are expected to occur in 2015 to join the two that happened in 2014 will have me watching developments in Israel more closely than ever. However, his linking of the signs of the zodiac with Israel’s feasts seemed a bit far-fetched to me.

All in, I appreciated Bentley’s ideas on how to interpret prophetic passages through the Jewish mindset. His love for the Jews is outspoken, but balanced by personal friendships with non-Jewish Christians in the Middle East. His explanation of the history of these people groups with their claims to the same small bit of land in a conflict that is more intense than ever helped me better understand current affairs in Israel and the Middle East.

This is certainly not the sort of book I would have picked up and read myself. It came to me via a set of books given out at the Calvary Chapel Pastor's Conference in June of this year. That is not to say, however, that it isn't great! I really like the view Bentley takes regarding prophecy. This book is partially a super focused and applied commentary of parts of Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Daniel, Isaiah and Revelation and partially a story of a nation being rebuilt and how Christians, though outsiders, can and should be part of that rebuilding, commenting on Nehemiah here.

There is some of the usual prophecy mumbo jumbo found within the pages, including a prediction of a significant event to occur in Israel either two or three years ago.

One of the things I found interesting in my own thinking is when Ray pointed out links between things. For example, significant events in Jewish history and blood moons, or related to a specific date. I would shrug these off as mere coincidence on first reading. However, I do not believe in coincidence. I believe in a sovereign God who loves order and signs and patterns, so it is definitely incorrect to read these things and think it's just a coincidence. However, I am still unsure about the weight that should be placed on these events and links.

This book was certainly interesting and certainly encouraging. Not one I would have chosen, but one o am glad I did not pass over, or pass on to another, without reading!

I like Ray Bentley & Calvary Chapel, however, this book is not what it appeared to be. He states that, "they designed a planisphere- or starchart- as part of the tower" (Of Babel) " this addition pictured the signs of the 12 known constellations." Ray then goes on to tell us the redemptive story of Jesus as it is written in the stars by using the astrological signs and symbols. I'm not saying God didn't do this, I'm just saying its not in the bible. He then gives 10-12 reasons why Christopher Columbus was Jewish. Or a strong supporter of the Jewish people. After research, I found some of that, but not to make a case one way or the other. He did leave on Tisha B'Av, after the Jews were kicked out of Spain. Most of it is based on his experience, and true. I found nothing scripture related wrong, but some of the statements are not proven and there is no way to find out what really happened, this side of Heaven. Please read with a cautious, heart.

I find the topic of this book interesting, so that may make me prejudiced towards liking it, but even so I am a little disappointed. On many topics the author is doing little than offering a brief introduction to a deeper topic that warrants further study. I'm surprised however, that it doesn't go much deeper in various areas. On areas that might be controversial I still don't feel like I've been gotten enough information to build any kind of cohesive viewpoint.

A friendly and personable introduction to the topic of the Land and People of Israel and the Christianity's relationship with them.

Worth a read if you like the topic.

I highly recommend this book!!! The Holy Land Key was one of the most influential books I’ve read! It encouraged me to see the Bible outside how I’d always been taught in regard to feasts and Yahweh’s calendar. The author goes into detail about past historical events as well as God’s feast days and how they all point (not pointed) to Jesus as the Messiah and how He will fulfill them in the last days. Prior or after reading, I suggest reading “God’s Day Timer” by Mark Biltz which goes into a more detailed description of the feasts.

Christian NonFiction 2 1/2 Stars

I learned some interesting things, and the author definitely has some good points.

Plus, I love reading about modern day Israel, so the stories about individual Israelis were wonderful to read.

But I felt like the author was really reaching on some of his points, which made his conclusions not set comfortably with me.

See my rating system, I am a tougher rater than most.

Ray Bentley’s book “The Holy Land Key: Unlocking End-Times Prophecy Through The Lives of God’s People In Israel”, looks at prophecy from God’s Word; specifically from passages that have prophetic significance. As a Christian who believes in the importance of Israel and the Jewish people in End Times prophecy I thoroughly enjoyed the way he draws together history, current events, natural signs in the skies, as well as conveying the meaning behind Israel’s feasts and festivals.

A pastor and author for years Ray Bentley was in a unique position to show God’s hand in fulfilling prophecy in Israel, for example with the uniting of Christians and Jews financially in their desire to bring home the Jewish people from around the world to repopulate Israel, and with insights into his personal friendships in the land.

Well-written and compelling this is a novel I recommend for those intrigued with End Times prophecy.

“Don’t Just Read Prophecy. Step into Its Fulfillment. The study of prophecy inspires elaborate timelines and speculation about which world leader might rise to power in the last days. But meanwhile, it’s far too easy to miss the significant prophetic signs contained in stories of biblical characters, in God’s creation, and in the lives and actions of today’s Israelis and Palestinians.”

The Holy Land Key: Unlocking End-Times Prophecy Through the Lives of God’s People in Israel by Ray Bentley is quite an interesting book. Right from the beginning it is filled with intriguing personal stories about key players in present-day Israel. With all that is going in Israel daily, it is through these personal accounts, we get a glimpse of Israel – then and now.

Throughout this book the author explores with us the little-known aspects of the End-Time prophecies. The author’s does a wonderful job at detailing the Feasts of the Lord, prophetic patterns that are found in the lunar cycle, an indication of God’s future kingdom as it is revealed in the stories of figures from the Scriptures.

What this book is not, is a book that renews familiar debates over the prophetic time lines, or another translation of John’s Revelation and there is not mention, nor debate, about who are the likely names of the Antichrist.

As the author states in the Introduction: “Paul wrote in Romans 1 that we are without excuse if we fail to see God and His character in the signs that are clear in His creation. God has left signs for us in more places that we can image. It would be a mistake to ignore any of them.” This book unlocks those signs.

This is a book I will probably read again, and then perhaps again. I have been fascinated with and inspired by Ray's vision of "going up to Jerusalem" for many years. I remember his saying years ago something to the effect that God was working to bring the Jews home to Israel and he wanted to be where God was working. I fondly remember helping to fund flights for Russian Jews, the work in Ariel, Ron Nachman, "what's Bill Clinton doing here," and other parts of this story.

For me, then, this book was an account of Ray's love story with the going-up-to-Jerusalem movement, with what God is doing today, with the whole idea of faith and belief in the God of the Old and New Testaments. Ray is in love with God and what God is doing today. He inspires me to be in love with going-up-to-Jerusalem, too. It is for this reason I will most likely read the book again, and then again. There's nothing more inspiring than being in the middle of a great love story. Based solely on this reason, I would have given the book a 4. But there are other factors in my rating.

The biggest factor that leads to my 3 rating is that I stumble on the title of the book every time I look at it. I kind of get the title, but as many times as I look at it, I have to translate it into my own terms to understand it. To me, it's more and yet less than "The Holy Land Key: Unlocking End-Times Prophecy..." It's more because it's a love story, and it's less because it doesn't unlock end-time prophecy for me.

Ray's enthusiasm for God is obvious the moment he walks center stage when he teaches. I think that comes out in this book. Yes, I say. YES!

In The Holy Land Key: Unlocking end-times prophecy through the lives of God’s people in Israel, Ray Bentley brings to life end times prophecy like no other pastor I’ve encountered. He shows us his friends and colleagues in Israel who are living it out.

“For Jews living in Israel today, prophecy is their present as well as their future.”

Stories of divine appointments, struggles, successes, and defeats make the prophecies come alive. I connected in a personal way with the individuals Bentley shared.

Bentley shows us the patterns God ordained from the beginning of the world. Patterns that are displayed first in the natural visible flesh, and then revealed in the spiritual realm.

Bentley weaves the seasons and Feasts of the Lord, the riddle of the Sphinx, the Gospel displayed in the Zodiac, and current events into a tapestry filled with rich colors, intricate patterns, and layered meanings.

He reveals a role in end-times prophecy for America. Christopher Columbus believed that his voyage to discover America was his mission. In his Book of Prophecies, Columbus claimed that the discovery of the New World was “the fulfillment of what Isaiah prophesied” in Isaiah 24:15 and 60:9.

Unlike many end-times prophecy books, The Holy Land Key offers more than in-depth revelation; it calls the reader to action and gives practical steps and resources available to enlist readers to get involved.

This is a book that I will refer to again and again. This is also a book that has spurred me on to learn more about the Gospel revealed in the Zodiac.

I received this book from Blogging for Books for an honest review.

The Holy Land Key: Ray Bentley
‘The Holy Land Key: Unlocking End-Times Prophecy through the Lives of God’s People in Israel’ is Ray Bentley’s research into how the Chosen Nation fits into Biblical prophecy. Mr. Bentley delivers a very personal perspective into Biblical truths.
Exploring the seed of Abraham (Jews & Arabs) is definitely a route not often explored by other authors. If current events as in the land war between Israel & her Arab neighbors leave you scratching your head, then Mr. Bentley’s explanation will clear things up for you.
Also, our author delves deep in the feasts providing further confirmation of prophetic pointing toward Jesus as the Messiah. This research also deals with signs in the Heavens which have been the source of much debate as of late. Though some theologians will debate the days/cycles with Mr. Bentley, the heart of the matter is the message, not the math.
God promises to bless those who bless Israel so the better we understand His people & their role then the better we are able to bless them. ‘The Holy Land Key’ is a good introduction to how to better understand our Jewish brothers & sisters.
At times, the book clearly veers into a much more personal, opinion piece, but for the most part, it’s very educational & well-written. It’s absolutely a 4 star piece. More info is available from the publisher ww.waterbrookmultnomah.com
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

***connects the blood moons and Jewish biblical feasts to prophecy!***

In The Holy Land Key, Pastor Ray Bentley of Maranatha Chapel in San Diego, with Genevieve Gillespie writes, "it's time to step into the prophetic story." The story he references carries dual significance, both for today as well as historically, back thousands of years to the time of Abraham, Sarah, Hagar and their children Isaac and Ishmael. In light of world events understanding their story is key to prophecy interpretation, Jewish biblical feasts and the blood moons.

Bentley "looks at certain passages of Scripture from a Hebrew perspective" and brings prophecy to life through the lens of "God's unbroken relationship with the Jewish people." He begins with the role Israel plays in prophecy and why "Israel is the key to God's blessings and a witness of promises God intends to keep." …Full Review: http://www.examiner.com/list/the-holy...

MY Reviews

The Holy Land is always a interesting topic to read about, but it is a place I don't know a lot about. Ray Bentley does a really good job of describing The Holy Land and all aspects of it. It is clear that Bentley has spent a lot of time researching, studying and spending time in this special Biblical place. And you can sure see Mr. Bentley's love for the Holy Land throughout the book as you read each page. All of this woven together makes this book a nice read. A read that I recommend. If you are one that is interesting in Bible times and lands, you would definitely benefit from The Holy Land Key.

I rec'd a copy of this book to read and review. What is here in this review is my thoughts and opinions only.

At first sight of the book and title, you’d think it was some sort of made up nonfiction book. Well, it’s not. The book is actually a book of fiction. It tells of how one my consider that the Jews are an enemy. When you begin reading this book, keep your heart and mind open, completely open.

The author will take you into the Bible where all of these things began, why the “Holy Wars” have started and he brings light of prophecies that have been foretold many ages ago in the Bible. Some are being fulfilled even as I write this.

You’ll learn of many corruptions that had and still take place within many religions, who makes the rules and how the dates have came about over time.

Excellent book. Our pastor wrote this and it provides an excellent look at how the traditional Jewish feasts relate to the Christian world and Jesus Christ. The one take away point is God loves the Jewish people... they are his people... don't forget it! I think a good point to remember is that if Jesus showed up in today's world where would he go to worship on the seventh day of the week?
