It was just sex...until the booty calls got serious.
When Sarah Deacon’s new relationship comes to an unexpected end, she heads straight for the one place she can always find no-strings comfort—her neighbor’s bed. Charlie, who’s made it clear sex is all he wants, is only too happy to oblige. Hot sex with a gorgeous surfer any time she’s single and in the mood? Oh, yeah. She’s all signed up for that course.
Charlie Hudson knows he’s all wrong for the sexy geneticist. After all, what could a long-haired school dropout have in common with a classy academic? Nothing...except maybe a burning desire for her that just won’t quit no matter how often they have sex.
Sensing the breakup has damaged her self-worth, Charlie cooks up a plan to introduce her to three “appropriate” men who’ll show her she’s the most beautiful woman in the world. But when his matchmaking begins to work too well, he realizes there’s only one thing worse than not having her in his bed. Losing the chance to make her his forever.
Jess Dee lives in beautiful Sydney, Australia, with her husband, their two sons and their insane dog - a ridiculously overweight puggle named Luigi.
An avid romance reader since her early teens, Jess knew one day, when she grew up, she’d have to write her own love stories. It might have taken a while, but in December of 2005, she finally got “the call.” Her first book, Photo Opportunity had been contracted. Now you can’t hold her down. She’s completed a whole host of books, and is finally doing the work she loves most— writing romance.
Some authors have the talent to completely blow me away with their books and Jess Dee is at the top of this list. As I've said before she takes tropes and themes in romance that have often been tackled before and gives the a whole other spin. When I started this book I was sceptical as to how the "friends with benefits" thing was going to transform into a real HEA. I shouldn't have been and should've trusted that Jess Dee would hit it out of the park once again.
I've read and read quite some dirty books and Jess Dee brings dirty to the table like nobody's business. And next to the dirty there was a wonderful love story that seemed one-sided in the beginning but soon it was clear that it wasn't. I turned the last page with a satisfied smile on my face and ready for the final book in this trilogy!
Let me just tell you that I wanted to punch Charlie in the gut a few times when he was so close to giving into his feelings 100%, but I am just glad Sam was around to lend a helping hand to these two!!

Wow. Just…wow. So much heat in this novel you may actually set fire to your ereader. This is book 2 in the “More Than” series and I gotta say, this one did not disappoint. I actually liked it more than the first. I know, a hard accomplishment. Often I find in series books the secondary characters stories aren’t nearly as interesting as the original. With Ms. Dee I never should have worried. This novel held its own…big time.
The author takes a well-known term and sexual freedom for singles, a “booty call,” to a new place. Geneticist Sarah was essentially left hanging by Sebastian, the man she dated in book 1 in the series, who left her for his long time best friend. Bummed and out of sorts the book starts with her meeting up with Charlie a local surf instructor for one of their standing booty calls. The rule…as long as they are not in a relationship they are free to knock on the others door. Living in the same complex makes this easy.
The book continues through a naughty sexual wager that takes their causal relationship to an interesting place. What was the wager? Read it and find out for yourself. I can’t give you all the awesome-sauce in one review. I can tell you that between extremely well written words, you get intense, wicked hot love scenes and a true love story at the heart of it.
One of my favorite sections from the novel:
How the heck did Charlie go from lying to standing in one fluid movement? It seemed, in a word, impossible. Surely the fifteen years spent determining the human genome hand been less complicated that mastering…
I’ll bet you’re pissed that I ended it there? Sorry ‘bout your luck. READ THE BOOK! You won’t regret it.
I could spend a good hour going on and on about how much I liked this short novel and Ms. Dee’s field of work. She’s that good. So, if you want a book that is a five star fire starter in the bedroom, one that your significant other will thank you for reading, one that will leave you taking shallow breaths and an inability to concentrate on anything but finishing? This is your read. My only complaint…I’m a greedy little kitty that always wishes for more.
OMG! More Than Lovers by Jess Dee was freaking HOT right from the beginning until the end and I LOVED every minute of it! I thought I was going to combust while reading this story! *fans self*
Readers briefly saw Sarah in book 1, More Than Friends, and I was surprised how much I loved her character in this story, considering her role in the previous book. You know how protective I am of the hero and heroine in each book. LOL! Anyways, I couldn't help but feel bad for her that things didn't work out with Sebastian, but hey, she had her "booty" call buddy, Charlie...Oh wow! She was one very lucky lady after all *sigh* Sarah doesn't think she's "marrying"material so Charlie sets out to prove her wrong.
I adored Charlie and I loved how he wanted what or who he "thought" was best for her despite his love for her. He didn't feel like he was worthy of her so he tried to set her up with his friends. I loved how protective he was of her and actually did his best to find the perfect match for her. He almost succeeded when he introduced her to Sam, who I completely adored but of course, I rooted for Charlie to "wise up" and for Sarah to get her "man". Would it be wrong of me to have wanted a threesome between them? Hehehe! Seriously, those two had some of the hottest and most explicit sex scenes written by Jess. I couldn't get enough even though I was blushing and maybe needed some cooling off :)
Another great story by one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
This one gets 5 fantastic stars, and I'd give it 10 if I could! I loved the first one in this series More Than Friends, but I have to say that this one was even better! As I've said many times before, Jess Dee is a master with emotions and making you fall in love with her characters.
Sarah and Charlie have a connection that neither of them really intended to go further than intense scorching hot sex, but over the last 18 months of their affair feelings have somehow evolved and they find themselves looking at each other in a different light. Charlie is convinced he isn't good enough for her despite how much he cares. Sarah on the other hand is convinced that Charlie is just looking for a good time and wouldn't be interested in anything further. Only seeking what he thinks is best for Sarah, Charlie takes it upon himself to find her perfect match in the form of a bet that she go on 3 dates of his choosing. Although Sarah reluctantly accepts the terms of the bet, Charlie and Sarah find themselves moving closer and closer as their once clear lines start to blur.
I highly suggest this one guys for not only the fact that it has some scoring hot love scenes, but that it was just such an overall sexy, sweet, and emotional read!
Liked this one more than the first. I think there was a bit more of a connection with both the main characters, where as the first one was more of 'wham!' speeding car crash situation.
I like that this is Sarah from the first book! I thought that was a nice way of connecting the series without it really connecting the series.
The only thing I didn't really like, was actually the climactic 'talk' at the end. It wasn't that it wasn't good. I just didn't like the words that were chosen. It just didn't feel natural to me. The rest of the convo felt fine, but the first initial sentences felt weird to me.
This is a great sweet friends to lovers story. I liked the friendship that Charlie and Sarah have built, loved that neither realized it was more until Charlie does what he thinks is the right thing by finding her the perfect man, even as his actions break his heart. I liked that Dr. Sam realized what was going on and called Charlie on his crazy plan and helped Sarah be with who she wanted.
Jess, I love your books. I am ready to buy more. I think your one-off best writhers i have ever had the honor of reading. I will contumely to read your writhing. Thank you so for the pleasure of your words
Blurb: It was just sex…until the booty calls got serious. But when his matchmaking begins to work too well, he realizes there’s only one thing worse than not having her in his bed. Losing the chance to make her his forever. Warning: One blond-haired, blue-eyed surfer dude + red-hot booty calls = a book you will not be able to put down (unless you plan to go surfing…or jump your guy.)
Thoughts: This book had an interesting storyline. Charlie is in love with Sarah, however he thinks she is way too good for him, so he sets out to find someone who he feels is worthy of her. But he also feels the urge to keep giving in to their booty call status - as well, as cross boundaries that they haven't before - because he can't keep himself from trying to reinforce his own role in her life. While Sarah is obviously attracted to him, she also knows that Charlie isn't the type of guy who wants to be tied down to marriage. When she realizes that she's in love with him, can she make this more than just a booty call? Can she convince Charlie that they can turn "sometimes" into "forever"? The storyline sounded interesting, and from the beginning I was really caught up in the plot. I enjoyed how Simon wanted to find happiness for Sarah, regardless of whether that happiness was with him or not. But I really enjoyed how their sexual encounters would intensify the more Simon felt possessive and scared of losing Sarah. The way their relationship changed into something more substantial was interesting to read. However, the book lacked a little something for me. While you felt the sexual desire between the two, it felt a little to emotionless for me. It seemed like there wasn't much between them but the sex. It was supposedly there, but I just didn't "feel" it. I wish it would have drawn me in a little bit more emotionally, but overall it was a good solid read. It wasn't a compelling read for me, but an overall good book.
Ahhh….Jess Dee is the master of hot, sexy, and thoroughly enjoyable novellas. The More Than series is perfect for those moments when you need a quick fix but don’t have a ton of time to get into a long book. Do they drive me a little nuts because I want more? Sure, but because I know this going in I’m never disappointed. In More Than Lovers, Jess turns the heat up to broil when surfer Charlie Hudson and his geneticist neighbor, Sarah Deacon find themselves at a crossroads and trying to figure out what path to take.
Opposites attract, we’ve heard that our whole lives and Charlie and Sarah couldn’t be more different. Charlie dropped out of high school and opened his own surf school. He loves what he does and he’s good at it but deep down his lack of education makes him doubt his self worth. Sarah works at the university teaching genetics, she’s well educated and well bred. While she’s enjoyed her “fuck buddy” relationship with Charlie she really wants more and she thought she had it with her latest boyfriend, but when she’s dumped she heads straight to Charlie for the comfort he always provides. Charlie is always more than willing to provide exactly what she needs.
Holy hotness when these two are together they melt the polar ice caps. Seriously folks they have some major chemistry and although Sarah would like more from Charlie, he’s told her from the start he’s not the one for her. When he realizes he’s developed real feelings for her he decides to find her a man to settle down with all the while he’s waiting for her when she gets home, screwing her silly, and sleeping over something they’ve never done in the past.
This is a fun and sexier than hell novella you do not want to miss. I enjoyed watching these characters come to terms with the change in their relationship and for finally with a little help from Charlie’s friend Sam figuring it all out. More Than Lovers is a superb addition to this series. Once again Jess Dee has proves she can pack a whole lot of story in a little package!
FTC : I love Jess Dee. I got this copy for an honest review and that is what it is getting... no point in lying about it!
Jess Dee is one of my auto-read authors if I want an Erotic Romance fix. She writes really good sex. That being said, I also loved the fact that this was a no-strings sex to love trope.. I had to read it.
At 113 pages, this isn’t the longest story in the world but what it does, it does well. The sex scenes are very well written, each scene getting more possessive and kinky as Charlie gets ready to say goodbye to Sarah (his lack of self-worth was really quite heart-breaking). They come from two ends of the spectrum and this has him convinced that his surfer dude lifestyle is not good enough for uber smart Sarah. Out of the three men that Charlie set’s her up with, we only really meet Dr Sam (who Charlie is convinced is Mr Perfect) which makes me think a book could be coming his way J
I liked both characters but, as is always the case with novellas, I didn’t really know them. For me, this always means that, although I feel the sex connection, I don’t often feel the love connection. This is just the way I am; I need time to know my characters before I love their love story. What was very well written in this book is Charlie’s heart-break, each scene between them becoming more painful to read as he prepares to give up the love of his life for, in his eyes, her own benefit. It made me adore him slightly but I really didn’t get that emotionally attached to Sarah. I felt the love between them, I just wasn’t there with them. I felt the heat though. This book should come with a bucket of cold water; with sexy doctor scenes, back-door action and some very dirty action during a phone call, there is pretty much something to tickle everyone’s fancy.
This is a very well written sexy novella. With scorching sex scenes and a cute plot, this one ticked a lot of boxes for what I wanted to read at the time. As per usual, recommended.
More than Lovers by Jess Dee is the second book in her delectable erotica short story series More Than. Consisting of three books, it was only when I started on the second one that I realized that these three novellas are loosely connected to each other through one of the protagonists in each story.
More than Lovers follows the neighbors with benefits trope or rather where you have a neighbor hottie that you can’t help but salivate over. Charlie Hudson and Sara Deacon have been involved in an arrangement where they have sex with no strings attached for more than eighteen months. While Sarah is the smart and brainy heroine who has a job to match her education, Charlie leads a seemingly relaxed lifestyle by making a living through surfing and teaching people how to surf.
More than Lovers kicks off when Charlie tries to set up Sarah with three dates which might lead to the kind of relationship that she wants with a man, a long lasting and fulfilling one. But each date just throws the light on just how well suited both Charlie and Sarah are for each other, if only Charlie would be willing to let go of the prejudices holding him back when it comes to contemplating a future between him and Sarah.
More than Lovers turned out to be more well rounded than the first book in the series. And though Sebastian is still my favorite, Charlie does come close with that effortless sex appeal that courses through the story with just his mere presence alone. If these two books are anything to judge this explosive short series by, I would say Jess Dee has definitely struck where she wanted to hit with these delectable stories. Definitely recommended for fans of the genre!
This is an emotionally charged book that really hooked me from the start. Even though it was a short story, I enjoyed the ride as we follow the relationship between Charlie and Sarah from lovers to friends to true love.
Sarah Deacon lives next door to Charlie, a blond haired surfer, she is a very smart academic with a PhD and Charlie has always thought that he was never good enough for her. They have had a long standing bootie call whenever they are between partners. It works for them as they enjoy some hot sex, realizing that it will never be anything more than that. Sometimes she has thought about a long term relationship with Charlie but he would never go for it, he dropped out of school when he was sixteen and knows they are wrong for each other.
Recently she broke up with Sebastian and the first thing she did was visit Charlie for some comfort. She is down, and Charlie can tell that her confidence is shot, he proposes a bet, he will find three men who think she is hot and want to be with her, unfortunately he believes finding these men will kill him. As she dates the three they both realize that maybe what they are looking for is right in front of their eyes.
What a hot, sexy short story, and it is really an enjoyable fast read.
After reading the first book, i've decided not to read the second one but it looks like the synopsis changed everything because my hormones literally kicked in after that. I mean, I love guys when they become stubborn and won't admit their feelings. KYAAA! so I just realized that the girl in this book was the one who was rejected by Seb who was in first book. lol! Good job man!
Charlie and Sarah have a thing, but for them it's only a booty call. I can sense their feelings while making love but they try to pretend that they were not meant for each other because they needed someone, someone like their own selves. They made a deal, Sarah getting the guy that she dreams and Charlie giving him happiness. then, it turns out that they knew each other too well until Sam (one of the three guys) helped them out figuring out their true feelings with each other. it's a giddy story! love it!
DISCLAIMER TO MY FELLOW GOODREADER This review is my personal opinion and may contain: spoilers, quotes, rants, cussing (sometimes I cannot help myself) and a possible full on recap. I in no way want to ruin anyone’s book reading experience so please read my words with caution.
Oh... Sarah is the chick Seb dumped. This time the around, two people, Charlie and Sarah, are involved in a booty call that's been going on for 18 months. However, Charlie is in love with Sarah but knows he's not good enough for her in any way.
Who sets up the woman he loves on three blind dates as a bet..? Come the fuck on! Worked out in the end.
Short novella.
Cliffhanger – no (book 2 of series) POV – Sarah and Charlie
Much better than the previous one, in my opinion. Both main characters were very different from one another and had always maintained their relationship at a non-committed easy-going level. However they knew each other for already 18 months, with also some intimate knowledge of each other. Their switch from occasional lovers to committed couple seemed all the more realistic than the care they have for each other was obvious.
Another good read by Jess Dee. Friends with benefits that realize they love each other when a third person makes them aware of this. Erotic, explicit, short read.
