Initial reaction: This is going to be a long expansion in the full review, but I'm honestly disappointed in how juvenile and false this narrative came across. Not to mention it pretty much trivialized everything from rape/sexual assault to mental illness and put it all in some chick-lit-ish cute bow just so that the heroine finally grew some buns of steel close to the end of the book to tell her controlling parents the word "no." And all in the measure of a bad boy who just so conveniently happens to love her and *show* her the right way. Never mind her actually doing these things herself and being proactive, because she's never once that in this narrative. Always the follower.

I'm not happy with this work at all. The unfortunate thing was that it had a good premise, but the execution was just wrong. All wrong.

Full review:

Fair warning, long review.

I struggled a couple of days figuring how to write this review. Even pondered over it in my commutes, because I don't think I've read a book this mediocre since RaShelle Workman's "Touching Melody", but for entirely different reasons. So this will be equal parts rant and constructive examination.

If going by premise alone, "Loving Liberty" would be the kind of book I'd like to read. I like seeing characters struggle and grow through the course of a narrative. I like watching characters stand up for themselves in the face of adversity and come into their own as they learn to assert their needs, wants and desires in life. I even like more than my fair share of romances, though I tend to prefer slow burning romances. The reviews cited for this book were mostly glowing, and I'll admit that made me a little weary because I didn't see much in the way of critique, but I jumped in anyway for the experience.

What I got from the experience made me beyond angry. Granted, the tone of this review is probably much more dialed back than if I'd written this in the heat of finishing it, but I'm glad I waited because maybe I can spell out what went wrong with this story on so many levels it'd make one's head spin - and why I'm utterly baffled by the fact that it's getting so many praises. What the heck did I miss in this story to make it such an inspiring read? Inspiring? More like insipid, unrealistic, belittling, trite, puerile, highly offensive without knowledge of being that way, and extremely formulaic. It wasn't worth the time or the digital ink it was printed on.

One of my biggest pet peeves reading is a story that feels like it's beating me over the head trying to sell all of its respective intentions on a surface level. That's probably the first line of offense "Loving Liberty" commits, though depends on who you are as far as how this may be offensive. Despite every intention behind the construction of this work - it is entirely puerile in the way it's told. I was extremely surprised to see this, even considering this is an NA work (which I know you guys know I have a mostly miss ratio with this genre, but I read it anyway to see if I can find something that clicks with me, and I'm fortunate to say I have in a few occasions. VERY few.)

The tone of this felt like it didn't really know which audience it wanted to write for. This is New Adult, but the narrative feels like it could be a combination of that, middle grade, YA, or happy go lucky adult chick-lit (which is extremely inappropriate given some of the tougher subjects this story tackles). Boring's narration is largely inconsistent and awkward, the voice of the heroine is naive and grating. She's supposed to be 21 years old, but sounds like a 13 or 14 year old girl (and I'd almost hesitate to say that, because that's underselling that age group for some levels of maturation). More on this in just a bit.

I got that this was a story about a young woman who's controlled by her family for just about every aspect of her life, but from the obvious *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* references to Liberty's name in the text to the purported role she has in this story, I think this book set itself up to fail from point one.

It felt fake. This entire narrative felt fake. (This is a description I know I'll probably come back to often.) It's like expecting someone to serve you a hot fudge sundae and they only give you the whipped cream with the cherry. Doesn't cut it. One-dimensional characters, melodramatic scenarios, NA stereotypes, blatant disregard for the seriousness of mental illness and using it as a plot tool, trivialization of rape/sexual assault, slut shaming, bitch slamming, tool of a boyfriend who just so happens to be oh-so-perfect and cater to every need and teaching the heroine how her life is screwed up and ways she needs to rise above it (never mind she doesn't figure much for herself), over the top evil family....and this narrative expects me to take it seriously for standing up for what you believe in and not taking crap from anyone? THIS is supposed to be INSPIRING?!!

But I digress, let me start at the beginning.

Liberty lives with her parents at 21. They control every aspect of her life, from the clothes she wears to the classes she takes at her local college. Even her choice of a potential lover (Andrew). I'm actually not knocking that premise off the bat because in a situation where a family is abusing another family member, this can happen. I remember reading the case study of a 34 year old woman who still lived with her parents and they basically ran her life to where she didn't realize she *had* any choices, or else she would be physically, mentally and emotionally punished. It was a really sad situation because the woman was very secluded and it took her years of therapy to realize she could make choices for herself and stand outside of her parents' shoddy abuse.

Liberty is quite different. If it isn't obvious by her name (*wink, wink, nudge, nudge*) that she desires independence, then she take the opportunity to tell the reader this in several capacities. Lo and behold, she ends up meeting a perfect bartender whom she instalusts over and finds a common point to speak about her controlling presence. I think I heard Liberty obsess over this guy's muscles and imagining him shirtless in multiple spanning pages.

Oliver isn't a bad character, don't get me wrong. He starts out charming enough, but then devolves into the familiar perfect male character as the story progresses. He becomes Liberty's "rescuer" through the narrative. Some of this actually could've had potential if it wasn't so heavy handed. I did want to like some of the times when Oliver made the gestures to let Liberty choose where she wanted to eat and encourage her to be able to *make* choices in general. But I felt like the narrative was handing this to me on a silver platter and Liberty was more passive than active, following Oliver's lead in just about every spectrum.

And Liberty's family was the worst. I don't even think Domyouji's mom from Hana Yori Dango could hold a candle to the OTT cruelty that Liberty's mother, father, and sister showcased. Liberty's sister slut shamed and sold her out so many times, it was very unbelievable - drama for the sake of drama - all over a guy no less. (I'll get to that guy later, because I have a whole section I'm dedicating to "other" guy, and he was the reason I was beyond angry with this book.) Liberty's mom was overbearing, constantly demanding of Liberty's time and expectations without even a thought given to her daughter's wishes. Liberty's father expected perfection from her studies and to aspire to "be a good wife" - which is just as much misogynistic as it is inaccurate towards a person's worth. But as Boring introduces these problematic turns, she really doesn't do much to knock them down, especially not in subtle ways when she actually does try to do so.

Case in point: Andrew. Screw him a thousand ways to...well, you know. It wasn't just the fact he was a problematic character. Oh no, he was a set piece for melodrama and problematic presentation for a lot of different things.

Andrew is the boy that Liberty's family wants to set Liberty up with. He's supposed to be charming, wealthy, the "perfect" boy for Liberty to hook up with. But Liberty hates him, and for good reasons. Unfortunately, this is also handed out in a "Captain Obvious" fashion. Every time she pushes him away, he gets more intrigued by her. Every time she does something he doesn't like, he belittles her. He shames her weight, knocks down her ideas on traveling abroad, basically the two are not a good match and yet he doesn't do anything but want to possess her any way he can. Even to the point of heckling her and SEXUALLY ASSAULTING HER after they've officially been not together anymore.

Andrew is the reason why Liberty's sister hates her with the power of a thousand...somethings. Why her sister slut shames her and basically blackmails Liberty into getting Andrew to like her instead of Liberty. Of course said plan backfires, so Liberty gets in trouble for seeing Oliver to the side. Liberty's family obviously doesn't like Oliver. They will do anything to keep her from seeing said bartender.

Even threaten to trap their own daughter through the guise of mental illness.

REALLY?!!!

I had enough issues with the way mental illness was treated in "Ten Tiny Breaths", "Levitating Las Vegas" among other narratives. NA seems to be a ground for showcasing either having a mental illness in an over the top fashion that's far in the measure of drama for portrayal of that character's experience OR as a baiting tool to keep a character from doing something the character's caregivers or enemies don't want.

In this case, Liberty's parents pretty much told her they would have her committed (again, she suffered from depression when she was younger and they trapped her at the hands of a cruel, manipulative doctor) if she threatened to leave the life she wanted to leave behind.

Tell me again how this is supposed to be realistic. Tell me again how this is supposed to be "inspiring." It's manipulative and utter B.S. and I don't understand why this kind of thing is shown for portrayal in the measure of mental illness - it's offensive and inaccurate and honestly someone has to call it out for being what it is: melodrama. And I'm not sympathetic for calling it out to be this because I hate seeing it. I really do. I wish NA authors (and even Boring herself) would actually treat mental illness for being the difficult measure that it is. That they would treat bullying for being what it actually is. For treating sexual assault/rape for what it actually is, rather than as an afterthought or vehicle for melodrama or conflict porn.

It doesn't convey any kind of understanding or respect for the issues they really are. And if it can't be portrayed seriously, how the dickens is it that others will be able to understand what it is and take it seriously? Portraying these very important problems in our society so casually makes them trivial and people numb to them (which is dangerous!), and the portrayal of these was in fact trivialized in a way that made me sick as I read such. So honestly, I couldn't take her narrative portrayal seriously. At all.

Ultimately, Liberty gets her moment to shine by standing up to her family and controlling circumstances, but it isn't without the heavy backing of "true luv" and Oliver's constant presence. It would've been far more rewarding if Liberty had really come into her own for herself. Instead, it felt like the moral of the story was that you need a man (or S.O.) to help you along and see you through all of your problems. And real life doesn't work that way. Sometimes you have to pick yourself up by your boot straps, and you have to do it alone. There may be people encouraging you along, and that's fine - we are human. We can't make our lives without being able to have some emotional support close to encourage along the journey. But ultimately, the decision to move forward in the face of adversity lies from within, and then it's series of stages from that point which are never so clear cut or easily resolved.

This narrative felt so false not only for the portrayals, but the overarching messages it so blatantly sent out. It even tries to "hang a lantern" on the portrayals (like the reference to Liberty's name), but honestly that felt more cheap than amusing.

I cannot recommend this narrative.

Overall score: 0/5 stars

4½ Brilliant Stars, Hearts, and Mystery Shots!

description

I have to be 100% honest here, I was expecting a 'fluff romance'. Now, to me, there is NOTHING wrong with a fluff romance. There are times where that was exactly what the Doctor ordered. I couldn't have been farther from the truth when it came to Loving Liberty. It was far deeper, more emotional, and darker than anything I had anticipated. I loved each and every moment, and wanted (oh-so-badly) to jump into the pages and help corrupt Liberty a bit.

I was so emotionally invested in this book, I shook with fury and had to put my Kindle down and walk away for a 'chapter break'. I was worried not coming from the same background as Liberty might create a barrier to feeling sympathy. Once again, totally wrong. If anything, it really opened my eyes. 'The grass is always greener on the other side' until I read Liberty's story. That is some dead, trampled, ugly, poisoned grass that's just been glossed over with expensive green paint to hide it's true nature.

I gasped, I railed, I misted up, I gripped my Kindle in a vice of death, I didn't want the story to end! And color me surprised, a relatively 'clean' romance (but don't mistake that as meaning a YA story, this is NOT a book for kids)... I left this smut lover stunned at how much I loved this very 'vanilla' romance.

Throw away your preconceived notions of the allure of the 'it' crowd and that 'upper class' old money crowd. You know, never mind, it doesn't matter if you throw them away or not. I can't imagine anyone not falling for the innocence, romance, and incredible hardship and bravery found in these pages. I just can't express enough how amazed I was by Loving Liberty.

I received an ARC from Belinda Boring in exchange for an unbiased, honest review. My thoughts are my own, and I received no monetary gain for my review.

I have followed and read each and every book from Belinda Boring. She has never failed to capture me in each and every one. She is an author that oozes romance. She tells a story for the tenderness and emotions, not panty-ripping fierce sex. This is why her fans have dubbed her the “Queen of Swoon".

I have just finished her best book to date, Loving Liberty. This is a New Adult Contemporary with a storyline not blogged down by sex. It is an eloquently told story of a girl named Liberty Montgomery. She is a young woman, lost in a world where her parents control every aspect of her life. How many degrading remarks can one person take from the people who claim to love you? In walks handsome Oliver. He is the one thing that gives Liberty love and hope. But when you have been beaten down your whole life, how can you ever feel love and that you are worthy of it? Oliver is there for one thing—Liberty. He doesn't want to control her, just the opposite. He wants her to find her wings so she can find not only herself, but also freedom.

Belinda Boring has captured one of the truest books that I have read to date. Many of us have gone through similar situations and know that it is emotional and heartbreaking, leaving you with so much uncertainty. I hope many people enjoy this book. The author poured pure emotion into the characters. Some you just love and some you just want to slap silly. I think this book could help so many young girls realize they are not alone out there. They will find their Oliver to show them how to fly.

Can I just say WOW! The "Queen of Swoon" has certainly earned another jewel in her crown with her first New Adult offering. Loving Liberty will take you on a emotional ride that will resonate long after the last page is turned. Have the tissues handy and prepare to forget about the rest of the world, Loving Liberty is one of those rare reading experiences where not even the Zombie apocalypse could drag you away from the page.

Boring has a natural flair for characterisation and scene setting. Right from the very first paragraph I found myself transported into Liberty's world and the unfolding story was so compelling and dare I say addictive, that I burnt the midnight oil, desperate to reach the conclusion.

Liberty, in my opinion is the perfect protagonist and Oliver the perfect object of affection. Liberty is so beautifully flawed and realistic you can't help but be tempted to try and fight her battles for her. Oliver, well not only will he raise your heartbeat and bring a blush to your cheeks with all his swoon-worthiness, you will love him simply because he gives Liberty the strength to find her wings. What girl doesn't dream of a guy like that?

Loving Liberty is without a doubt one of the freshest and captivating novels of 2013 and definately one you MUST add to your TBR. Believe me, you will thank yourself for it.

Lots to take in, in this bookie. First, Oliver is just a sweetheart, "well, I have this strict policy that I never let pretty girls drink things that make them cringe. So please, for me, is there anything else I can get you? Maybe something from the bar?" Next, is the fact Liberty's family is completely nuts. Like seriously how can people treat their kids like possessions and not a human being, it's books like this that make me grateful that I had a chance to do my own thing and make mistakes, Lord knows I make plenty, and then they're there to always catch me when I fall (well sometimes) "don't speak unless he asks you a direct question and don't contradict him. Leave this new attitude of yours at home. Then there's Andrew many words can be used to describe him but since this bookie is YA I kinda can't say what I want to say but I can say he needs a swift kick in the nuts, "I hope you didn't just apologize to him Liberty." Andrew caught me mouth a sorry as the flustered waiter flew our table. "He is being paid to provide a service. Coddling him won't force him to improve." Olive is seriously so perfect for Liberty he shows her how to spread her wings and fly, this book is about letting go and living for you, and not others, "I will not marry you. I don't like you. You're a sniveling, pompous, arrogant jerk who needs to go...SUCK A DUCK!!" It takes a real man to show someone you love that there's more to the world then snobs, and rules, "you're mine, Liberty. In case you misunderstood my sign." This is a great read, especially for those who actually are stuck under their parents noses and aren't quite sure how to break free.

This is a book that will stick with you and make you appreciate life and all the choices it brings....

Wow! I just finished this book and I am completely blown away by the utter rawness the Author brings to the table. From the moment I opened the book I was sucked in and living Liberty's life.

The book is about a young woman who is controlled by her family. She is stuck going to fancy parties and has all decisions made for her.... including a husband. When Andrew "the one -per her parents" takes her on a date and controls every aspect, she knows it is time to escape the brutal reality that is her life. She meets Oliver who brings out her brave side and urges her to stick up for what she believes in. Through struggles she learns that standing up for herself isn't as easy as one would think.

I cannot tell you how much emotion was felt while reading this book. I actually found myself wanting to scream at times.... My heart hurt for Liberty and all that she went through each day. It was amazing how the romance was her hope and Oliver was her happiness. I loved the dates and how real each one was. The connection they shared was genuine and not at all over the top. Just the way I like it!

I would definitely recommend this book to all readers, but please keep in mind... this isn't your typical romance. There is a lesson to be learned and an emotional story to be told.

WOW - this was such an AWESOME book!!!

Let me start by saying, When you start reading this book, make sure you have plenty of time set aside to read because you will NOT want to put this book down!!!

Liberty is 21 years old and a member of a wealthy family. And as some wealthy families sometimes are - what her parents say goes!!
Liberty is a very obedient daughter and tries to do everything that is asked of her.

While attending a fundraising event, she meets a waiter named Oliver. Oliver is a very caring guy. Oliver explains to Liberty that he knows what she is going through because he has been through it himself. Oliver helps Liberty realize her dreams of wanting to be free.

Meanwhile, Liberty's parents have decided that she should date and marry Andrew. Andrew is a sorry ass, mean, disrespectful, arrogant, snotty, rude, and controlling piece of shit - and that is putting it mildly!! Liberty is forced to out with Andrew and she hated every minute. Andrew disrespects her and embarrasses her - making Liberty realize that she really doesn't want anything to do with him.

The story of how Liberty deals with Andrew and how Oliver helps her through the torture that she receives from Andrew and her family is amazing. Oh how I wish that people who live with her situations can read this book and realize that there is more to life than what they have to deal with.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Woah! How in the world can a book be so sexy without the sex? It baffles my mind but it's possible. Trust me, it just happened! And my reading rut...gone! This book had me all sorts of worked up. Poor Liberty was so sheltered and living the way her parents wanted her to live. I felt the urge to hug her and make everything okay. Cue Oliver and I was just as enthralled by him as she was. He was a man with a past not much different than her own. Difference is, he's living his life and she isn't.

At one point, I found myself screaming at Liberty to be strong, to stick up for herself. It hurt to see her be bullied by her family and bow down to them. Oliver gave her the strength to think for herself and not do what everyone else wanted her to do.

The romance between Liberty and Oliver was scorching! It was full of that anticipation that leaves you breathless and begging for more. So many moments that leave you gripping onto the edge of your seat only to have a bucket of ice water dumped on your head. This was intense and full of real problems. I've had a problem connecting to characters lately and this was not the case with this book. The book is appropriately titled since I found myself loving the person that Liberty became. Or should I say the person that was there all along. She just needed that push. Seriously, you need to pick up this book as soon as it comes out.

I don't know where to start with telling you how fabulous this book is! It swooped right in and made a home in my heart. The story personally touched me and I never related so much to a book the way I did with this one. The characters are so wonderfully written that the reader instantly can connect with them. We feel Liberty's suffocation to her world. The pain, the tight leash around her it's all so exact and full of emotion. I loved watching her grow and come to find herself and her strength to finally find freedom. Because freedom to be who you are and to love yourself is the most important kind of freedom to have. And to watch her find someone as sexy as Oliver to give her true self to is amazing to watch! Thank you Belinda Boring for writing a story that has wormed it's way into my heart. I like it there! I give this book my thumbs up!

I absolutely fell in love with Oliver and Liberty. I felt myself drawn into their relationship the more I read. Belinda has the ability to put the reader right into her stories. I found myself wanting to jump into the book and knock the crap out of her sister and shake her mom and dad. I think if ever given the choice to have Liberty's family verses not having one at all, I would live alone.

It was a pleasure watching Liberty grow and find herself, the troubles she experienced along the way help push her into a very strong woman. I love how Oliver was able to stand back and let her evolve on her own, the same way he did. I would have loved to yell in the rain, right along side of Liberty, I'm free.

Where to begin?

Loving Liberty…I have had so many feelings about this book. Good feelings! I had to take notes of how I felt at at times while reading because I had so many emotions going through my mind it was almost impossible to keep up with my own thoughts. I’m not lying. Amazing read! I don’t know anyone personally that has or is going through the same situation as Liberty, but after reading this book I’m grateful my parents were nowhere close to what Liberty’s parents are like. I wouldn’t want my worse enemy to have parents like hers. Yes growing up wealthy has its advantages, but some of the disadvantages if they are anything like in this book may out way the advantages. As kids we tend to envy those more privileged than us, but that is because we were young and naïve. We don’t know what goes on behind closed doors; we only see what they want us to see.

Liberty is a strong person to be 21 years old and still dealing with her controlling parents trying to control every aspect of her life down to what she has to drink in public. Only a strong person can endure that kind of torture for that long and not go insane. Even though she fought back and forth with herself internally she still believed and hoped that life could be better if she really wanted it to be. Liberty’s inner dialogue was kind of intense and relate-able. I at times wanted to slap the shiznits out of her and her inner thoughts because I could relate and then at the same time could not understand what was so hard about making a simple decision. Then I had to remind myself that she has been controlled all her life and decisions I think are simple are not for her.

Loving Liberty to me is an original storyline and I have yet to come across another I feel is in any way similar. How this idea popped up into Belinda’s head I don’t know, but I would love to pick her brain. She has a talent for making you adore her book and it’s characters, but at the same time make you want to throw the book or eReader across the room in frustration all at the same time.

Frustration #1: Her Sister. From the very beginning I hated Liberty’s family, especially her “evil incarnate” sister Erica. I can’t believe people have siblings that act like that. Astonishing. My heart ached for Liberty during those scenes with Erica. So many times did I want Liberty to just give her sister a swift right hook and K.O. her ass! Stomp that bitch to the ground. I kid you not, those thoughts pretty much crossed my mind every scene they had together. “Knock her the f*@k out, Liberty! Just one time!” However, I would never do that to my sister so I can understand why she held her own. Loved the emotions that this brought forth. I thank goddess my sister is not like that and that we are the best of friends. Yes we argue and whatnot every now and then, but that’s just what we do as sisters.

Frustration #2: Her parents. Let’s just say they are lucky I’m not Liberty. I would have caused havoc. Like I said before, Liberty is much stronger than she ever gave herself credit for. That is all I’m going to say about them.

Frustration and utter disgust #3: ANDREW! That’s all you get from me.

Swooning over all things OLIVER! Can we say Knight in shining armor of wisdom, sex appeal and a breath of fresh air on a sunny day in a beautiful meadow! I love everything about Oliver’s character. What I adored most about him is that he is not your typical Knight in shining armor on a white horse…first off he drives a motorcycle, and secondly, he wanted Liberty to save herself. He was basically her support system and would remind her that she has the ability to take her power back from her family. To break free if that is what she wished and that she is strong enough and it is possible to have what she wants how she wants and when she wants it. That she could be her own savior by finding her inner strength, which is most important. It didn’t hurt that Oliver is also gorgeous and says all the right things all the damn time! Can you all tell that I’m swooning hard over my new book-boyfriend? If not read that paragraph again.

I love that Belinda Boring can write a story that takes me on emotional rollercoaster and leaves me emotionally exhausted, but ALWAYS leaves me wanting more of the ride! I kid you not after I finished I said to myself “I’m exhausted, I don’t know if I want to cry, scream, laugh, be happy, or be sad. However I do know I wish there was some sort of sequel coming that I knew about. Like I don’t know maybe Loving Liberty: Round 2.”

I hope you will grab your copy of Loving Liberty and devour it as I did. I hope it makes you or helps you realize that looks can be deceiving, wealth and high society is not always all it is cracked up to be, or how you day dreamed it. You should never let others take away your power over yourself, it is not their right whether they are family or not. I hope we can all find the courage and strength to live our lives how we see fit. I know I want to grab life by the cojones and live it the best I can because we only get one life live.

I was given an ARC copy for my honest review, I have to say this was more a 4.5 star book for me. This story was really good and it gives you a look into a young lady's life that is completely and utterly controlled. I have to admit at first Liberty absolutely drove me insane because I couldn't understand how someone who was 21 years old could allow their parents to control everything they do. At first I thought Liberty was just a spoiled little rich girl who wanted to take a walk on the wild side, but as her story continued I realized how controlled and sheltered she was. When I say her parents controlled her I mean they told her what to wear, how to speak, what she was going to major in and last but not least who she was going to marry. Not only did Liberty have her parents to deal with but she also has her older sister Erica, who is a vindictive, manipulative, mean spirited woman.

We are introduced to Oliver when Liberty and him cross paths at a banquet. Oliver is in her family's eyes nothing but hired because he works for the catering company. Oliver sees Liberty choking down sparkling water and starts teasing her about never seeing someone drink like that. They begin a harmless flirty banter and Liberty instantly knows that Oliver is what she has always wanted. In comes snobby Erica who puts Oliver in her place and threatens Liberty with telling their parents that Liberty is flirting with the help. Liberty's mother sits with them and informs Liberty that Andrew is showing her interest and she is to act like a lady because Andrew is who they want for her. Liberty does what is expected of her shortly realizes Andrew is scum.

As the story unfolds Liberty and Oliver become great friends and he is trying to show her she can have the freedom she craves so much. Your heart will literally break for Liberty and Oliver as all the hopes and dreams they have are shattered by mean and evil people. I found myself screaming for Liberty to fight for what she wants and getting anger with Oliver for just letting her go. However things always find a way to work and unfortunately there are always so e tragic things that happen.

Loving Liberty is an emotional roller coaster, Oliver is every girls dream. He is polite, caring, understanding, protective and HOT!!! Liberty is some what annoying but once you get the full story you will see why this poor girl responds the way she does. This really was an enjoyable read and I would highly recommend it!!!

Watch out New York Times Best Seller's List, here comes Loving Liberty!!!!

Loving Liberty will definitely be a read that makes the literary world shine more brightly. Amazing just doesn’t seem adequate enough to describe this wonderful book filled with raw emotions. I thoroughly believe this author has struck gold with Loving Liberty.

This is a story about a young girl called Liberty, living to please her possessive and rich parents. Their philosophy is “Do as I say and nothing more.” Liberty's parents dictate her life, molding her to be the perfection of what they "think" their family is. Pffft! Perfection my ***.

Fortunately, Oliver comes along to show her the beauty in life she’s so desperately searching for. You know when an author can truly make you fall in love with Oliver, I mean character, she’s done her job. That is precisely what Mrs. Boring does. I utterly fell in love with Oliver. I needed to protect Liberty, and strangle Andrew and Erica, along with Liberty's parents. I adored the way Oliver, while teaching or introducing Liberty to new things, never made her feel stupid or different. He often used himself as an example, like when ordering food. If only we all could have an Oliver.

Belinda Boring is an author that knows how to suck you in and not let you go. I didn’t even feel like I was turning pages—more like I was living the story, feeling Oliver's touch. I grasped my chest from the pain Liberty's family and Andrew brought her. Trust me when I say there is nothing sexier than when you can be turned on, without even having sex involved.

This story will be a healer for so many people out there. This is one that will definitely be sitting on my Best books for 2013 list. There is only one thing I would change about this book—the title should be "Loving Derinda."

I would like to leave one last thing for you. This is a quote I found when I first opened this author's book—
"Be Brave. Have Faith. Take Risks. It's really is worth it."

I don't even know how to put into words how amazing this book is. I couldn't put this book down. Belinda Boring has done a great job with this book and I am glad I had the pleasure of receiving an advanced ARC to read.

Liberty is a 21 year old woman and is part of a high class family. In her family what her parents say goes. She is to be obedient and do everything they say to include marry who they say. During an event she meets a waiter named Oliver. Oliver is the sweetest most caring guy ever. He helps Liberty realize her dreams of wanting to be free. During this time Liberty's parents have set her up with Andrew. A sorry ass, mean, disrespectful, arrogant, snotty, rude, and controlling piece of shit. Liberty is forced to go on the worse date ever with Andrew where he disrespects her and embarrasses her to no end.

"Chicken"

"You owe me a proper kiss, Liberty."

This book was freaking fabulous. At one point while reading I was so mad at Andrew and Erica I would have jumped in the book and beat the crap out of them if I could. I prayed threw the whole book for a happy ending and I am glad to say that there definitely is a happy ending. My emotions went wild threw this book. I was ready to throw my kindle I was so mad. Liberty's parents are sorry as can be and should of never had kids. Andrew must of lost his mind if he think he can tell someone what do to do and Erica is a sorry excuse for a sister. I felt for Liberty threw this whole book. I rooted for her just as much as Oliver. What to say about Oliver. He was hot damn sexy and I would love to take a bite out of him. I am glad Oliver and Liberty found each other and she had that help and support to help her escape the torture of her family. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. This is a must read.

In Loving Liberty we meet 21 yr old Liberty Montgomery, a young woman who wants to experience life on her terms. Since birth, her upper crust snooty socialite parents have controlled every aspect of her life; the classes she took whether in school or extracurricular, what friends she had (had to make sure they were of “proper” social class) what college she went to and major and her mother still chooses every piece of clothing in her wardrobe. Mother also chooses who she dates, and the “proper” guy Mom set her up with turned out to be a real prize

*insert sarcasm here*

More than anything she wants to break free and be able to make her own decisions, but she’s afraid since she’s never had to do that before…all that changes the day she meets Oliver *sigh*

Meeting Oliver sparks something in her, making her feel things she’s never felt before and because of that she decides to take the chance and get to know him. In getting to know him she learns they have more in common than she thought. Oliver is the first person to believe in her. He encourages Liberty to be brave and teaches her she CAN do anything, be anyone she wants to be and more importantly he helps her to realize it’s ok to live her life HER way. Seeing their relationship slowly develop is young love at its finest! Not only is Loving Liberty a sweet love story it’s a great story about the difficulties a lot of young 20 something’s face trying to find their place in the world which is something we all can relate to at some point. In her contemporary debut, Belinda gives us an inspiring coming of age story teaching us that just one person can make a difference and that with their faith and belief in us we truly are strong enough to become the person we always wanted to be.

If only there were an Oliver for everybody...

Liberty is a twenty one year old who has spent her whole life playing the good dutiful daughter. Wearing the right clothes, acting the right way and dating the 'right' guys. She's always ached to do and be more. Her parents are stifling and snub their noses to those beneath them. Her sister is just like them, if not worse because she's down right evil.

Fortunately for Liberty one evening she meets Oliver that helps to change the course of her life. Oliver used to be in a very similar situation as Liberty but found his way out. He makes his own living and he's genuinely happy. Oliver sees something in Liberty and there's an instant pull that is more than just attraction.

Oliver is handsome, kind and extremely patient and comes around at a time when unbeknownst to her she is going to need him the most. He doesn't come riding up on a white horse (okay, he kinda does at one point but you'll see) but helps her see that it's something she has to do all on her own.

Belinda Boring has done it again, with perfect dialogue and characters you can't help but fall in love with and care about and a male lead that will have you malting & swooning until the very last page.

Loving Liberty is a sweet, romantic story about first love, finding and trusting yourself and finding the strength to let go. 5 fantastic stars from me!!

I received this as an ARC copy. And to date this is one of her most heartfelt books. I cried, I laughed, I learned a new phrase. What is it. laughing you will have to read the book to find out. Belinda touched my soul with this book. She showed me through her writing that we have wings and can fly and make our own lives and not count on someone else, though with help it is possible.

Loving Liberty is Belinda Boring’s New Adult Contemporary novel. Liberty Montgomery’s life is not her own. Everything has been planned out for her that is until Oliver Nichols enters her life, he turns it completely upside down. He is everything she is needs. Can Liberty find her inner strength to break free and make her life her own? Hooked from page one I could feel the raw emotions of the characters in every word the author wrote. Even though it is a different genre, it still encompasses those toe curling, weak in the knees kisses that Belinda is well-known for. Dealing with a tough subject matter that we may or may not have dealt with in life, she is able to make us feel both the painful and blissful emotions for the characters while rooting for the good guys to triumph for the bad guys.

10*s. I received an eARC copy of this book in return for an honest review. This story is breathtakingly addictive and phenomenally inspiring. My heart and soul went out to Liberty with the life she was trained to live and the life she always wanted. I love how the author was able to write this story to capture and pull in her readers and keep me wanting to read more from beginning to end. A fabulous sexy story without the sex. I love it. This story made me think about the real life dreams of any young girl or young girl at heart. This story hit me on a personal level and I could feel the realness and life in the story. This author has yet again written another remarkable best seller and a RECOMMENDED MUST read for young girls and romantic heart throb girls at heart. There was a lot of times I would sigh with Liberty while dreaming of her hopes of wanting to be free. I would actually stop reading just to day dream at certain parts of the book. Another awesome read from the #1 best selling Author, Belinda Boring. Thank you, Belinda Boring, for this heart clenching, soul capturing story that has become my favorite YA story of the year!!

I am not usually a fan of contemporary romance but this book has changed that. Once I started reading Loving Liberty I did not put it down until I was finished. The title is perfect for this book because once you start reading Liberty's story you will definitely love her.

Liberty is lost in the life that her family is molding for her. A family that runs every aspect of her life, not for their love of their daughter but for their personal gain either for her fathers business or her mothers need to further her status. Constantly bullied into doing what she is told to do instead of what she wants Liberty feels hopeless to ever live out her dreams, until she meets Oliver. Oliver is the first person to show Liberty what her life should be like without being bullied into every decision. He is also the first to show her what love and hope truly is.

Loving Liberty is a must read that will pull you into Liberty's world and run you through an emotional rollercoaster of love, hate, anger, sadness and even some laugh out loud moments.

Unlike her name, Liberty feels like she has no freedom at all in this contemporary coming-of-age novel. Caught between her overbearing parents, her conniving sister and societal expectations of a young woman of her position, she sees herself being forced into a narrow boxed-in life. This is the story of how she attempts to climb out of the box before the lid is fastened in the form of an arranged marriage to a man who is even more controlling than her whole family put together. Told in the first person narrative, it pulls you into the internal struggle as Liberty tries to live up to her name. The characters have depth and conviction and even the minor characters have different personalities and motivations. I rarely find internal struggle stories interesting but this book is very well written and engrossing.

I received a copy of this book in the hopes I would review it and that in no way influenced my opinion.

How many of us have had an Andrew in their life? I have not been this angry for a while, and yes is because of Andrew. Her family too, how can they claim to be a family, such disturbed values. Now, I know not all families are loving, I have had my own family issues, but wow! I absolutely adore Oliver, he is such a ray of hope, not just for Liberty but for those reading this book. That being said….
I give highest of praise to Belinda Boring for writing this story, a difficult situation and a wonderful ending. Liberty had such courage and together with Oliver made it through. How many don’t make it through? This is a terrific story for all ages, it will raise awareness to the issues that many don’t think about and several scoff that there is an issue at all. Thanks for allowing me to read and review this book, you never ever disappoint!!

Where can I find an Oliver of my own? I love the way he stands up for Liberty and is protective of her even while encouraging her to be strong on her own. And Liberty...I've never related to a character the way I relate to her. Throughout the book, on nearly every page, I was nodding and thinking to myself "Yes! I know exactly how that is." I really enjoyed the way their story unfolded and I loved most of the supporting characters. I felt like I knew them...even the ones I didn't like so much. I loved the fact that this wasn't a story about a knight in shining armor coming to the rescue of the damsel in distress, but rather the story of a really great (and sexy!) guy helping the girl he cares for find the confidence she needs to be and have what she wants.

I went through an internal struggle while reading Loving Liberty. I wanted to read fast to find out what would happen, but reading fast made the end come sooner. Liberty’s story will pull at your heart strings and Oliver will have you completely swooning. Belinda certainly lives up to her “Queen of Swoon” title. Belinda’s characters come to life on the pages. Characters that you can’t help but fall in love with or despise. Loving Liberty is a perfectly packaged story of courage wrapped in love and topped with a bright pink ribbon of swoon. I’m sure any reader can find a piece of themselves somewhere in these pages. Loving Liberty will leave you with a new found understanding of freedom. I highly recommend Loving Liberty and give it 5 stars!

I think that there is a little bit of Liberty Montgomery in all of us. At some point in our lives, we feel the need to be free of someone or something that has us under their thumb. This book definitely brings back memories of my teenage years, of being 17, so close to the brink of adulthood, but not quite there yet, and fighting for my Oliver. This wonderful book has so many emotions running through it that you are bound to be captivated by every word. For this being the first New Adult Contemporary novel that she has written, Belinda Boring, is certainly going to have great things to come in this genre. This book is hands down, 5 stars all the way.

Loving Liberty by Belinda Boring

This book is AMAZING!!! I have read all the books this author has written so far and this is the best. I connected on a deep level with this book. I have some experiences that was similar to some she went through. It made it hard to put this book down. A friend of mine told me to have a box of tissues ready and she wasn't kidding. This book hit home for me. I bawled this book. This book is an emotional ride that had me engrossed in it til the very end. I loved this book and will read it again and again. It has helped me overcome somethings I still am facing by staying strong and taking baby steps. The writing is amazing like all the author's other books. I am riveted to see what the author will surprise me with next. One thing I know for sure I will become one of this author's stalkers and get any and all the books she comes out with next. I'm honored that I had a chance to read this ARC.

Liberty Montgomery is trapped in her role as a dutiful daughter, a perfect society diva and a member of an affluent family. She has been taught to be perfect in everything by her parents who are sure that she will make a good wife and a perfect hostess. With no independence to do anything in her life, Liberty secretly hopes of breaking her bonds and living free. Meeting Oliver, a dashing and reckless boy who has already broken his bonds to live free and who stirs in her a longing to be independent to do the simple things in life, she is seriously tempted.
But can she finally be brave enough to free herself from the total control of her parents?

The cover is beautiful and the blurb intriguing. When I got a request to review this book, I was seriously tempted after reading the blurb. The story of a girl oppressed by her parents who take every decision for her and leave no room for refusal, I could empathize with Liberty. There are many people like Liberty's parents in reality who are more concerned about their image in society and take pride in portraying themselves as being perfect. They control everything and everyone around them to suit their false persona and become furious if someone doesn't comply with them.Liberty is stuck in such a situation. She does everything her family wants her to do and just wants their love in return. But they don't care about her. She is just supposed to be pretty, well groomed, sophisticated, compliant, a good daughter, a good wife-to-be with no backbone.

The plot is very expertly conceived and executed by Belinda who brings out the essence of the subject of her book so beautifully that the reader is able to feel each and every emotion felt by the characters. The story is fast paced with sudden twists and turns and very beautifully sketched scenes.

The characterization is noteworthy and the reader is able to feel everything that the author wants to convey through her story. I loved Liberty and admired her strength and her endurance. Trapped in a suffocating family with a bitchy sister and controlling parents, she keeps her cool and doesn't break down. She still dreams and hopes for a happy and free life even though her situation is hopeless which is something that each one of us should imbibe. If I loved Liberty then I am crazy about Oliver. He is so cool. He is strong enough to have come out of a controlling family just like Liberty and taken the risk to live free. He is kind, understanding and so supportive of her that it really touched my heart to see these two together. They complement each other beautifully. There friendship, companionship and love for each other gave them strength to stand together even when everyone was against them. I hated Liberty's parents specially her mom who is snotty, pretentious and unconcerned about her daughter's aspirations and dreams. She just wants to be praised for raising the perfect daughters even if it means that she has to control them and set their life to her liking! Her sister is another snot, the exact replica of her parents but still not noticed by them which makes her really hate Liberty.

The story hooked me right from the start and kept me glued to the book till the end. The author mainly focuses on bullying and finding the strength to stand up to these bullies and although I found a few glitches in terms of the explanation to the physical abuse part but despite these glitches I loved the book and was left with a silly smile on my face and a well satisfied feeling which I get after reading a good book. A book that gives a strong message to stand up to the bullies in our lives even if they are related to us, I give Loving Liberty 4 out of 5 stars and strongly recommend that you go read it. Belinda is a very talented writer and I wish her the very best. I hope to read more from her in the future.

I received the book from the author and the PR and I am very thankful to them. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

Oh my!! This was a very entertaining read!! I fell instantly in love with Oliver. His character was charming and supportive. There were some parts of this story that touched me deeply and that I identified with. The author did a great job of conveying the emotions one feels when under the rule of a controlling person. Great Job!!

I was really annoyed at first by Liberty and it took me a little while to get into the book. I finally understood why she was the way that she was and I hated her family so much. I thought this was a really fresh take on the new adult genre.

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of The Romance Review in exchange for an honest review.

The first thing that came to mind while reading was OMG! I am not sure I can adequately express the beauty of this story, but I will surely try my best. The emotions that this story evoked in me made me feel as if I was living the story alongside the characters. This is my second time reading Belinda Boring's work and she did not disappoint.

LOVING LIBERTY is about a 21-year-old college student named Liberty. Now when you hear the term liberty, the things that come to mind are freedom and independence. However, for Liberty Montgomery, her name did not match her lifestyle. She lived a life of privilege and wealth, and unfortunately for her, living this way came with conditions. She was unhappy as her life was governed by restrictions. Her parents controlled every aspect of her life. This included what she ate and drank, how she dressed and the type of friends she kept. She knew that she was living the life of a prisoner, but she was afraid to take the bull by the horn and tell her parents that she has had enough. However, a chance meeting with a hot and sexy bartender will have her re-evaluating all she had endured while growing up.

From the moment he met Liberty, Oliver Nichols knew she was different from the girls he encountered at the fancy functions where he worked as a bartender. He recognized that she was a caged bird dying for the day when she will be able to seize her freedom. He was able to recognize this as he was once where she was. This made him the perfect person to help Liberty to live up to the name she was blessed with. Will Liberty be able to get past her fears and put an end to her parents' dominance over her life?

I enjoyed the manner in which the characters were portrayed. I felt everything that the author was hoping to communicate to her readers. I was fascinated by Liberty's journey from being a caged bird to one that was able to soar to the highest of heights. I thought she was strong in light of all she had endured at the hands of her parents and sister. In spite of all this, she was able to maintain her sanity. It is my belief that one of the things that kept her going was hope. Hope that one day she would be free to live her life the way she had always dreamed.

Oliver was totally swoon worthy. He is the embodiment of what most women look for in a man. He and Liberty were perfect together. He showed her what she had been missing all her life. He gave her a taste of freedom. Oliver's hope was that she would realise the beauty of freedom and that she would be brave enough to seize it. He was not pushy and he would do all in his power to protect her. He stood by her and never once did he judge her.

I did not like Liberty's parents. Not only are they controlling but they were also pretentious and snobbish. It is evident that they were more concerned about keeping up appearances rather than their children's wellbeing. Their idea of love was warped. As for Liberty's sister Erica, she was just plain evil. I am convinced that she is a spawn of the devil.

LOVING LIBERTY is the type of story that engages you from start to finish. It is my belief that there is no way you can read this book and not have your emotions engaged in every possible way. The writing style was captivating. You will find yourself turning the pages as you are eager to discover all that will transpire. The author satisfies your literary needs, but at the same time leaves you wanting more of the story and the characters.

This was a beautiful story and I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to reading more of this author's work.
