Cassiopeia "Pia" Alexander is just your typical college student. She can't pick a major, her love life is virtually non-existent and the only thing good in her life seems to be her job as an Animal ER Nurse. Even that doesn't feel like enough, though.
Beylin Callaghan is one of the Brotherhood tasked to give souls a winged-ride from one life to the next, and to remove the memories from each soul so that they can start with a fresh slate in their new incarnations.
But he's keeping a secret-- a secret that when exposed, will bind Pia's fate to his own. For better or worse.
Crow: Episode One is novella length (approx. 9,000 words) and is the first installment in this new adult fantasy series. Subsequent episodes will be released on a monthly basis and fans are encouraged to visit Alex's website to influence the outcome of the overall story.
Born in the Deep South and raised right over the Mason Dixon line, Alex grew up feeling unsure where she belonged. That is, until she met up with a traveling Freak Show one fine day. Now she celebrates the unusual and appreciates how interesting life can be when you (ahem) open yourself to unique situations.
Residing in coastal Virginia, Alex spends her days wrangling words and children, and on occasion a sassy cat (or three), a bull-headed Labrador, or her old, cantankerous horse. Her husband has figured out that toeing the line is easiest in the long run. He’s a smart man.
I've been clearing down my kindle and I've removed over two hundred books, I came across 3 'Crow' books which I must have downloaded while they were free, it was late and I was curious so without checking length or reviews I started reading and while I liked the idea, the Brotherhood give souls a ride from one life to the next, removing their memories so each 'life' is fresh and starts with a clean slate. It's an intriguing idea with so much scope and I was congratulating myself on my find when it ended, ok I didn't expect that so this morning I checked the reviews and all the ones I could find were really good but my problem is this 'book' was 28 pages long and costs £1.83 or $2.94 now I know I downloaded this when it was free but there's no way I would ever pay so much for so little, I checked out book 2 which I also had and that's 34 pages for £1.83 or $2.94 and the prequel is 38 pages for 77p or $1.24. Now while I appreciate I haven't actually paid for any of these since I downloaded while they were free I'm not going to continue with this series, the books are way too short for me, I hate the wait in between books but there's no way I'm paying so much for so little.
Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author, via LibraryThing, in exchange for an honest review.
My Thoughts: Reincarnation. Do you believe in reincarnation? Don’t worry, this post won’t turn into what I believe vs. the book, blah, blah, blah. I’m actually curious who out there believes in reincarnation. It’s a pretty cool concept. Or maybe the book’s premise is better described by rebirth, since they’re always human. Frankly, I don’t know the technical definitions to distinguish between the two and I’m too lazy to look them up.
I really like the main character, Pia. She’s relatable and likable. She’s also and animal ER nurse, which in my opinion is very cool. If the job didn’t involve putting animals down, I would be all over that career path. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders and isn’t an idiot. Beylin is weirdly creepy. I get that he’s supposed to be sexy and the love of her lives, but something within their story is inherently creepy and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.
The storyline is intriguing. It definitely kept me reading until the end. I thought the modern-day twist was more interesting than the historical twist of the prequel, Crow: The Prequel. More details could be included about characters and their former lives, but as a short story series it works.
I enjoyed reading Crow: Episode One and I enjoyed it much more than the prequel. I think I’ll be reading Crow: Episode Two. I’m curious. If you’re really into reincarnation through rebirth, then you may really like this short story series. I wouldn’t judge the series on its prequel though.
Beylin has found himself within her arms again and though he knows itis against all the rules he just cant seem to leave her be. Even death cannot seperate them. This is a series of stories that the author has taken up and plans to realease a new story each month. He needs to come on and get some more out there.I have read the prequel, 1 and 2 I loved this story!!
