Stewart Folger lives in the Appalachian Mountains, where people take care of their family and follow the Bible. He feels that Appalachian pull in his blood, but that hasn’t tamed his wild side. A youth full of pranks left him with the nickname Stunt and a preference for danger in and out of bed. Other than a few contrary moonshiners who hate him for philosophical reasons since he’s a forestry technician and federal employee, he doesn’t have a problem in the world. Then one day he runs into Alex Soto, a man out for revenge.Just out of prison, Alex knows firsthand that the justice system doesn’t treat poor and rich equally, so he’ll have to go outside the law to avenge his brother’s death. When an innocent man lands in the middle of his plans, he doesn't know what to do… other than take him hostage. Unfortunately, he never planned on having to deal with Stunt or with the twisted logic that passes for reasonable in Stunt’s mountain home.

Lyn Gala

Lynsey "Lyn" Gala started writing in the back of her science notebook in third grade and hasn’t stopped since. Westerns starring men with shady pasts gave way to science fiction with questionable protagonists which eventually gave in to any story with a morally ambiguous character. Even the purest heroes have pain and loss and darkness in their hearts, and that’s where she likes to find her stories. Her characters seek to better themselves and find the happy ending (or happier anyway), but it’s writing the struggle that inspires her muse. When she isn’t writing, Lyn Gala teaches in New Mexico.

She first cut her teeth on fanfic: gen, slash, het, and femslash. She prefers to focus on plot: mysteries and monsters and disasters, oh my, but sex can and does happen. Some of her stories focus on power exchange, bondage or bdsm. In her worlds, tops and bottoms are all mature, consenting adults. In fact, stories where they aren't squick her badly, so don't expect to find abuse stories in her journal.

4.5 HEARTS

Lyn Gala!

She's the type of writer that could probably write about a tree stump with a need to be dominated and a pine cone that likes to dominate falling for one another and I'd read it in a heartbeat. Some writers have a signature sign, or tell, that once you read a story, you know it's 100% them. This was definitely a Lyn Gala read with her sub that was tethered from time to time. I love reading about it. *grins* And the words are like a favorite treat that savor every time I read.

Set in the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee, Mountain Prey is a romance between a forestry technician (Stunt aka Stewart) who was at the wrong place at the right time and Alex, an ex-con criminal with a mission. They meet from chapter one and start a whirlwind affair that includes hill folk, mountain logic, drug dealers, a beautiful, vivid background, kink without being too heavy, light suspense and a fun time. Alex kidnaps Stunt and gets a lot more than he bargained for. What happens when a city boy and a hill boy that share a compatible D/s bond get together? One helluva story.

Stunt! Yes, his nickname is Stunt (It actually fits him) He is my brother from another mother based on his smart mouth alone.

"Wham, bam, thank you, man with the big cock, that's how Stunt tried to love his life."

or

"I'm starting to wonder if you're having second thoughts with all the stupid that keeps falling out your mouth."

I have tons of quotes especially Stunt's. When I can claim to have oodles of quotes from one book, you know it was a great story. Stunt was unapologetic for who he was and how he chose to live his life. The adrenaline junkie likes to be dominated, likes being tied up and is not ashamed of being gay despite the Southern mountain town he grew up in. I could hear him with his twang in my head. If you think he's just a characters for laughs or dumb, think again. He's intelligent and plucky to boot. His logic, based on mountain logic was a joy to read. I was surprised he was so free with who he was especially where he lived. It made for a better read in my opinion.

The story is told from Stunt's POV but we get a good sense of Alex. He's damaged, has a chip on his shoulder and also not a stereotype just because he's an ex-con. Plus being a caretaker Dom doesn't hurt. I liked his scenes lots. And the geeky twist made him dreamier.

"Sometimes it scares the snot out of me that I can't understand you. How am I supposed to make sure I'm not doing something monumentally dangerous when I'm in the middle of some backward land where good is bad and suicide is a choice and killing someone you've known since they were born makes sense?"

The two have to include a local moonshiner, Elijah in their plans which totally changes the entire scheme. We get a glimpse into Appalachian life without of cheapening its people. A little suspense is added to the mix, nothing ulcer inducing, but it was a nice touch.

Stunt has a special...gift or talent, if you will. Those scenes between Dom and sub were extra special. I totally bought their connection. Was it a little insta-lovey? In terms of the shotgun wedding...yes. But it totally fit their dynamic. This is one story I am not going to gripe about their speediness. Hello, there's a frigging shotgun wedding! Literally!

The secondary character, Elijah! I thought he was going play into the
hillbilly stereotype, moonshine making, bible thumping, shotgun toting anti-government promoting...wait he does these things, come to think of
it. BUT he's more progressive than I originally thought he would be. And I fell for the curmudgeon. Many favorite quotes from him:

"Wait", Alex said, "you don't mind that we're gay?"
Elijah
shrugged. "I figure you'll go to hell, seeing as how the Bible calls
that one of those abominations. But until you get yourself dead, it
ain't none of my business. Actually, it ain't my business even after
you're dead, seeing as how I don't intend to be down in hell with all
the fornicators and such."

and

"Barefoot and pregnant. After the ruckus last night, I suppose I wouldn't be all that shocked if you managed it," Elijah muttered as Stunt passed him.

Stunt was officially in hell. It was like getting caught by his parents having sex. Worse...kinky sex.

The old man made me want to call him my Peepaw.  Definitely a memorable secondary character.

The BDSM was not extreme. (Some bondage and spanking fun, yum!) I had to stretch reality for a smidge to even consider a shotgun wedding in Tennessee between men possible. (And after reading, I kinda wish it was a possible thing) For someone who has never been to this part of the country, it read authentic and I felt like I visited through the words alone. I learned about forestry technicians and Appalachian mountain life. The ending was great.  I do love a solid HEA. I can actually picture this couple many years together, imagine their bond becoming even closer in the future.

A perfect quote to end my review. Very fitting after reading and appreciating this tale.

"Mountain logic has a lot more logic than people think."

This read is highly recommended.

**5 Hilarious Stunt worth stars**

For some, getting held at gun point and handcuffed on the job tends to render them speechless from fear, but not Stunt. No Stunt doesn't have an off button. His fear tends to loosen his tongue...minus the filter.

description

"But you do seem to have gotten my point."
"The one where you keep trying to verbally beat me to death with your suggestion that I get help?"
"Yep, that's the one."

Working in the forest, the last thing Stunt would expect is getting kidnapped by a maniac with revenge on his mind. This is how Stunt and Alex meet. Stunt tied up with a hard on- oh yes, his an uncontrollable loud mouth, but a submissive in the bedroom- and Alex with a unwanted hostage on his hands.

description

Lucky for Stunt, Alex is a Dom. Maybe the only one that can control his running mouth without the use of a gag.

description

"I should also point out that I'm a little unusual in the bedroom," Stunt offered.
"You mean other than being kinky, getting off on humiliation, and enjoy being tied up and forced to finally stop talking?"

One mistake and plan leads to another, and Alex and Stunt find themselves in a sticky situation. One that Stunt can't talk them out of.

description

Mountain Prey has its steamy scenes, cute love and is packed with humor! Its sure to keep a smile on your face, long after you finished the book.

Dear Author,

Thank you for writing a story that is so unexpected, so sexy. Thank you for characters that are so perfectly imperfect, quirky, intriguing, perplexing, frustrating—two colorful men who seem cut from different puzzles and then fit so snugly together; who start as strong characters, meet, interact, affect each other, and maintain their integrity. In fact, they end up stronger than they started. Thank you for the great character building, for a great story in a unique setting. And the shot-gun wedding!! Genius.

Sincerely,
A reader who is quickly becoming a fan

Stewart ‘Stunt’ Folger has Tennessee in his heart. He’s been away to college but his Appalachian mountain calls him back, it’s a part of his soul. He’s a federal employee, a forestry technician. He works alone, tending the mountain trails and woods in deep country where the local folk don’t trust anything that smells of “the law.” Where they live by their own rules, where bible-quoting moonshiners vie against the drug rings trying to move in. Stunt is a local boy, he knows to look the other way if he should happen upon an illegal still or two, he knows to stay away from strangers wielding guns…

But Stunt doesn’t scare easily— he lives up to his nickname— an adrenaline junkie in the bedroom and out. He’s a young, gay man in an area where the folks don’t get it, alienate him for it. He’s used to being on the outside. Stunt also has a hidden side— has some dark kinks involving D/s play, edge-play, and lots of bondage.

“I’m popular with the Doms because I can generally come twice… three times if you make me suffer and work for the first two orgasms…”

Tie him up, tie him down, it’s all good to Stunt. He can play hard and is popular for that, but he hasn’t found a Dom who can hold his interest for more than a scene. That is until Alex Soto emerges from the forest, shotgun in hand, and takes him hostage… with lots of rope. Lots and lots of ropey bondage in this one.

“Looky what I found here,” Alex said… he held up a long coiled length of rope… “Now what can we possibly do with this?” He ran his hand over the coil as he meandered back toward Stunt. “It’s nice and soft. Old. Worn smooth.” He stroked the rope so sensually, Stunt felt a little twinge of jealousy…”

Alex is an out-of-towner. Tall, dark, and gorgeous, he’s knows how to command, has a firm hand, but he’s also caring. He’s had a hard life, got a sketchy past, he’s an ex-con and been on the wrong side of the law. He’s also on a mission, hunting dangerous prey that he can’t catch without some inside help. Alex is a city boy; knows computers, has a plan. But he doesn’t know this strange country with it’s strange ways. Stunt knows the back country, its people and their “mountain logic,” that logic that ultimately proves very valuable.

The fun in this read is how these two men get distracted in each other, without getting distracted from the goal. And neither does the plot. There are a couple of WTF moments, but in the end this all hangs together very well for me. The character and world building are wonderful— deftly done— colorful, rich, and complex. The author has a talent for writing some very hot D/s dynamics: dirty play, dirty talk, dirty fun. Friction-y. Feisty. Fantastical. Pr’it near perfect.

Overall book rating: 4 Moonshine and shotgun stars
Audio Book: N/A
Book Cover: 3.8

I don't really care what anybody else thought. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot, and that's what matters in the end. It was funny! And the whole moonshine mountain thing made it different from anything I've read the last few months.

I loved Stunt and how his mind works. He seems so world wise on one hand and totally trusting and child like in his way of living and thinking in the next sentence. I adore him! And I liked Alex as well. His struggles with figuring out the way of life and thinking in these parts was just hysterical at times.

Loved how he tried to protect Stunt when it came down too it though And even though there were little things that made me pull up my eyebrows I had so much fun with this book I just didn't care. Going with the flow seemed too be the order of the day with this one.

The side characters were great. Elijah Pierpond and his folk, priceless, and they won me over on that scene with the reverent! LOVED IT!

And I really enjoyed the whole "hostage" thing going on in the background. Yeah so it wasn't the best crime story ever but I'm not that big on crime anyhow so who cares?

Shotgun weddings, moonshine, guns and pickup trucks

Stunt is a loudmouth trail keeper who has a way of getting and/or talking himself into trouble.

Alex is an ex-con looking for vengeance when Stunt stumbles across his path.

Some good ole boys' attitude going on as we play all around the mountain. Alex and Shane quickly discover that they have a lot in common. Of course, those ropes Alex keeps using on Shane sure do give his body the wrong idea, and the game begins.

Smokin' Hot bondage. Sweet mercy. Even better, Stunt has a nifty little trick that'll bring a smile. That said, it is pretty darn funny and if you have any sort acquaintance with "The Dukes of Hazzard" this book will seem like another episode. Between the boys, the Sheriff, and Elijah there are plenty of characters to keep you entertained. FYI, there's a half-point awarded for use of the shotgun wedding premise, which I both adored and made me chuckle.

Recommended to readers who like good ole boys, clueless interlopers, and rope.

Favorite quote:
Mountain folk had regular acquaintance with Biblical rage.

I avoided this book, in my Lyn Gala backlist stalking, because the premise sounded really fluffy, at least in some of the reviews. The concept of being taken hostage reluctantly and falling for your captor, against a backdrop of moonshiners and mountain family feuds, didn't grab me. But once I started reading it, this author once again found a way to pull me into her story.

The plot of this doesn't hold together in every detail, but it does surprisingly well for some of the otherwise OTT components to it. I believed in much of the logic and emotions that got Stunt, the forestry tech, and Alex, the ex-con kidnapper, together. The BDSM-flavored sex is hot, and the guys are more complex than they seemed. The mountain customs and beliefs that twist the story into something new are appealing, and held together, at least for an outsider like me. And there was a lingering sadness for the things drugs were doing to the country folk that gave the book a deeper tone. I liked this much more than I expected to when I started it.

I love Lyn Gala, but this particular book wasn't a winner for me.

I really enjoyed the setting, which was beautifully evoked. I also liked every single secondary character. The writing was very good throughout, and excellent in many places.

I felt the connection between the MCs, even though Alex remains largely a mystery to us. We learn about him, but it all seems to be surface.

My big problem was I was bored by the sex :(

I guess with the buildup, and the big talk Stunt has about all his one-nighters with Doms, I wanted filthy, dirty, depraved power exchange. And love. This was very soft and floofy. And loving. So the love was good. I just wanted more, harder, and sloppier.

My smaller problem is that my interest in the plot slipped away from me, right after they got to Elijah's place. The resolution to the main issues did not read as convincing to me, although I did like the very, very end at the diner.

Gala's still an auto buy for me: just this one was only OK.

"Land o'Goshen!"
Yep, that pretty much sums up this book quite nicely. Well said, Stunt! :D:D:D:D:D 3.5 Stars
Group buddy read 9-13 with Steph, Em, Giorgia, and Vilda...Yaaay!!!!!!!

MY SYNOPSIS:
Stunt is a federal employee...working for the parks services, not the law. But he's also a lifetime resident of the backwoods Tennessee Appalachian mountains, so when he looks up to find a guh pointed in his face one afternoon, he's not too scared. At first, he just thinks it's an old moonshiner protecting his stills, keeping people off his property. After all, the old mountainers do it differently than "those city folk."

But Stunt soon realizes after he's tied up and led down the mountain that this isn't some ordinary geezer. This is a desperate man.
"Hands patted stunt down, pulling his pockets out and running up and down Stunt's thighs. Normally, Stunt's dick wouldhave embarrassed itself by now, but luckily, it was too busy tring to clib back up and become an internal organ to care...
"Cross your ankles and do not move."
"Does shaking coount?"

His captor ends up being Alex, a man bent on killing the big time drug lord that had his brother murdered. This drug lord apparently moved onto the mountain, and since Stunt knows that mountain fold don't like anyone drawing attention to their parts, he convinces Alex to seek help from the locals. Elijah...one of the more memorable characters I've come across...

Somewhere amid the slapstick comedy feeling that this book literally drips with, these two boys come to realize that they have stumbled upon their own personal sexual perfections in each other. Alex, a Dom, and Stunt one of the area's most sought after Subs. This leads to some awkward but endearing situations...
"...but he hated feeling helpless which was a mite strange because he loved being dominated..."

"Stunt's body wasn't quite sure how to handle this particular ritual from a man who was on the unsafe and insane side of the consensual fance."

But once things get worked out and the plot unfolds, the romance kicks in, and we're in gay hillbilly heaven!

MY THOUGHTS:
While this was not at all what I expected from this book, I can definitely say that I was entertained quite nicely. A few parts dragged...namely between about 30-50%. I had enough of the back and forth between the two protagonists...it stagnated the story a bit. But after that, it was all gravy.

The beginning was simply hilarious...Stunt's brain to mouth filter was most definitely OFF...which leads the reader to truly believe that this little subbie really and truly needs that gag.

The BDSM is pretty light...mostly slap and tickle with lots of bondage. I loved how the author describes Stunt's need to be tied. He feels awkward with his hands free...a submissive to the core, he needs not only the direction but the lack of choices to lead to his own lack of inhibition...slipping into what he calls his "gray zone", living for nothing but the feels. Alex really knew what he wanted, and that attention to detail turned this from a weird, quirky, funny little oddity of a M/M romance into something a a little more real.

"But as much as those Doms had made Stunt feel good, they'd always been using his body for their pleasure..."
"However, when Alex looked in his eyes, Stunt could hardly breathe as he saw how much Alex wanted him to be happy. His pleasure was all about making Stunt happy, and that was a dynamic Stunt weren't real familiar with."

Honestly, the plot felt a bit scattered, the point lost somewhere within the comedy and myriad descriptions of odd people and scenery. But it was fun, and completely different from my normal reads.

"Mountain logic has more logic than people might think."

** 2 I-wanted-to-like-this-book-but-didn't-so-the-star-got-a-bandaid stars **

----------- dnf at 68% ---------------

---------- spoilers ahead!! ---------

Okay, so I wasn't imagining this to a very serious book when I picked it up. I though it would be fun with a little captor and hostage in a cabin or something (thank god, I'm talking about a book here... ;) LOL).

Stewart is a kind-of-ranger guy who stumbles upon Alex, the just-out-of-prison-with-a-mind-at-vengeance-over-the-drug-dealer-who-killed-his-brother kind of guy out in the woods. Alex doesn't want Stewart running off and tell the police of his plans, so he ties him up at gun point and takes him with him planning on releasing him when the deed is done so to speak.

The story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains where they have their own "hill logic" and follow the Bible to the dot. Basically they're Moonshiners, red necks and gun wielding "idjits".

Yeah, you tell'em, Bobby!

The Mountain folks keep by God's word, like "thou shall not kill", except when it threatens the still or themselves, of course. Uhm. Right.
So Stewart and Alex visits a Moonshiner named Elijah to get help to get rid of the drug dealer "next door". The Moonshiner wants to kill Stunt because he don't want "no Feds" coming down on him for being part of a kidnapping. Can't let him go or he'll talk. Shoot him and the problem is solved. Uhm. Right.

I think this is Elijah.

Alex doesn't want the Moonshiner to kill Stewart, because he luuves him already. They met yesterday when Alex took Stewart hostage. They're already feeling the love. Uhm. Right.
Stewart isn't all that keen to be kill either, btw. Duh.
Oh! And they both like bondage. Stewart and Alex that is, not the Moonshiner. Stewart is the "bondagee" and Alex is the "bondager". Okay, I just made up those words. But this is a match made in Heaven, you might think. Right?

Funny you should mention Heaven. Because "in the hills" you can promise all you want, but that won't "forever hold your peace" (words of God, you know). So for Stewart to "hold his peace" he must either be dead or... wait for it...

"Shhhh"

...marry Alex.

'Cus, you know....

-----------------------
"...if you make a commitment in front of God, that means something in these parts. That's not to be undertaken lightly."
-----------------------

Uhm.
Right.

Marriage or death. "Forever hold you peace".

Uhm.
Right.

AND, they have to consummate the marriage too. If you catch my drift. In the Moonshiner's house the eve before "the wedding". Including bondage and stuff. You know. The works.

Uhm.
Right.

Shouldn't they have waited until after the "I do's"?

Nope, sorry, gives bad taste.

Why 2 stars you might wonder? Well, it was written in a funny way and the writing was actually pretty good. I get why some might rate the book higher. I would have liked it more hadn't it been so unbelievable! I think I was expecting something else, and got thrown off track by the turn of events. I dunno.

I'm not gonna speculate any more why I dnf'd. Right, Bobby?

Right. Uhm. No, you don't. Sorry.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book! It's well-written with a vividly drawn setting, quirky and completely delightful secondary characters, fun banter between two richly nuanced main characters, and there's even a shotgun M/M wedding! Woot!

The developing connection between the main characters was well-handled, and I was totally onboard and feeling the emotion between these guys. There was a light BDSM element to the relationship, which I enjoyed.

Just adored the mountain logic, and the way the author made it clear that how people talk doesn't always reflect on their brain power. And the delightful lack of the usual preponderance of stereotypically narrow-minded and judgmental rural people had me cheering. Then there’s Southern hill folk's commitment to family which came through loud and clear. And YES, I'm proudly Southern born and raised, although transplanted elsewhere a long time ago.

Well that was weird. Really good in parts in others just plain odd. From the outset you really needed to suspend disbelief but that's ok for me, I'm not one of those readers who gets her underwear in an uproar at every unlikely plot development, I read to escape reality after all. The problem for me was that this book just seemed to lose its way at about the 40% mark and what had been a promising escaped con/ hostage drama with a kinky edge just degenerated into a bizarre tale starring Forest Gump the hillbilly with the never deflating erection and an endless supply of homespun wisdom. Some parts were so farcical I suspect irony - maybe the joke is on me, who knows?

Oh man, this was not what I was expected...AT ALL!

I don't know why, but when I read the blurb I was expecting something dark and dangerous...not something spoofy and goofy! Maybe at a different time and if I knew what I was getting in to, maybe I would have enjoyed this more. But I have to be on the right mood for this kind of silliness. And I kinda felt embarrassed for the people of Appalachia.

Oh, the BDSM was a non-issue for me.

I finally gave up at 61% because I didn't think it could recover itself.

I really enjoyed this one. Right from the get go, it is funny and entertaining. I liked both characters right away. Poor Stunt can't keep control of his mouth on a good day, and even more so, while being held at gunpoint. Thankfully, Alex is actually a good guy with no intention of actually killing him. He does have other plans, but you'll have to read to get the whole story.

Neither of these guys seem like the brightest bulbs in the pack, but they are very sweet, good hearted and mean well. Most of the time, Alex has trouble understanding things due to Stunt's accent and speak, but others, he just comes across as terribly naive. Stunt seems a bit brighter, but lacks control and execution. As a team, they are quite the pair.

Another fun aspect of this story is the underlying kinkiness. Stunt enjoys his sex a bit on the adventurous side, leaning more towards bondage than anything else. One of his biggest issues in the beginning is trying to keep himself from getting hard while being tied up by Alex. And, luckily, Alex has some Dom experience to help keep things under control. Most of the time anyway. All of this makes for some really funny moments, and when they have sex, which doesn't happen until at least halfway through, it is smoking hot.

While some may feel this sort of spoofs on the mountain people of the region, it isn't hard to believe most of it is pretty close to the truth. At the same time, I felt it actually showed many of the good qualities of those people.

Well, I'll be.

Being from the mountains of East Tennessee myself, I can tell you that the 'mountain logic in this book was....scarily (and hilariously) accurate! With one exception. I've not heard nary a soul utter "land o' goshen" round here. Not once.
~"By God"...yep.
~"Hell Fire" (pronounced "Far")...definitely.
~"Lord a'mighty"...sure.
~"Tarnation"...it's happened.
But "land o' goshen? Nuh uh!

That being said, most of the rest of it was dead on! I laughed so hard in some places, I had to set my book down to wipe away the tears! (while my cat was steadily giving the side-eye at all my cackling)

Stunt was a sassy, back-talkin', country spitfire! And Alex "weren't from round here"...lol! But when they got 'together' *wink-wink*, they were "Lord have mercy" HOT!

The colloquialisms and 'hill talk' might not be for every one, but for me...it was danged enjoyable!

Being a federal employee in the mountains of Tennessee is difficult. Being a gay man in the mountains of Tennessee is also difficult. Stewart “Stunt” Folger decided to go whole hog and do both. His sexuality and choice of job shouldn’t keep him away from the home he loves passionately. Stunt works for the department of forestry and maintains the hiking trails on federal lands. One day at work Stunt has the feeling he’s being watched. He knows someone is there but can’t see who. Up pops a guy with a gun who takes Stunt hostage. Unfortunately for Stunt tense situations with lots of adrenaline can make him a bit chatty. He does manage to annoy his captor, but the guy, who is named Alex, doesn’t hurt Stunt. Stunt just ends up tied up in the back of Alex’s truck. This puts Stunt in a bit of a pickle. He’s involved in the D/s world. Being tied up is awesome! All indications are Alex is also involved in that world. Being tied up by a gorgeous man who happens to know what he’s doing is double awesome! That fact that Stunt is the hostage of a man with a plan to kill another isn’t so awesome. Alex is out to kill the drug lord that murdered his little brother. He’ll stop at nothing to avenge his family.

Stunt wants Alex to get help on his quest. Obviously not from the police. Many long time residents of the mountains would also object to the man Alex plans to kill. Despite being actively engaged in law breaking, most moonshiners are also anti-drug. Alex and Stunt go to see Elijah Pierpont. Stunt wanted Alex to go alone. Alex gets a bit upset when Stunt explains all the ramifications of taking Stunt up to Elijah’s house. In a bizarre twist of Mountain Logic, Elijah decides these two men who are willing to die for each other need to be married for him to go along with the plan and not kill either one or both of them outright. Okay, Elijah kind of makes sense when you read the book, I can’t do him justice if I try and explain it. Stunt and Alex get married. The sex is much better than either man expected! While staying at Elijah’s home, Stunt learns more of the local unofficial politics. Just because Elijah is against the drug lord moving in doesn’t mean all the local mountain folk are. Alex, Stunt, and now Elijah have quite a battle on their hands. It’s time for a new plan.

I loved the hypocrites in this book. For the most part the characters in the book could be classified as chaotic good (A small group of very nerdy people will understand that, the rest of you can Google.). The story describes a group of people with a very long history of disregarding the federal government. It started with the Whiskey Rebellion, and it hasn’t stopped. Ultimately, it’s a group of people willing to flout the law passing judgment on which laws a different group of people are willing to flout. Including biblical laws. There is a rousing discussion with much quoting of bible verse while Elijah is trying to justify murder to his wife. Then despite all his talk of personal freedom being sacrosanct Elijah forces Stunt and Alex to marry each other. Elijah was a great flawed character. I ended up liking him a lot.

It was pretty funny that everyone just sort of assumed Stunt was the wife in the relationship. They did this without knowing about Stunt and Alex’s sexual proclivities. Frequently a book with a D/s storyline lets the bedroom behaviors bleed into every aspect of the couple’s relationship. Sexual submission has nothing to do with a person’s desire or capability to make decisions outside the bedroom. Not only did Stunt want to be treated like an equal partner in a relationship Alex wanted an equal partner. He had no desire to rule another man’s life.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
Stunt’s humour sucked me in from the very first page and Mr Gun (aka Alex) was fantastic too. I loved how they met up in the mountains, and that their personalities were just perfect for each other. I’ve never read a book quite like this before…

’Stunt’s heart slowed half a notch. No killing and no rape… that sounded good. It didn’t match the hand groping him, but it sounded good.
”Okay, if you think I could still have a hidden knife on me, I have to ask. Where the hell do you keep your knife?”
Mr. Gun chuckled. ”You’d be surprised at what a man can hide in his pants.”
“After this, you pretty much know everything I have in my pants.”

I liked that out of such an awful situation, Alex was bought to Stunt… and something truly incredible came out of it in the end. They had great chemistry, which made for some really intense and hot sex scenes.
My favourite thing about this book was definitely Stunt and Alex’s relationship. I liked watching them get to know each other and their senses of humour were perfectly matched. It was hilarious.

”Believe it or not, you weren’t the one I was hunting. Maybe if you hadn’t gotten in the middle, you wouldn’t be here.”
“Oh yes. I apologise. I should have avoided the crazy man hiding in the leaves.”

This book was absolute madness. Honestly, it was insane. I cannot imagine that people actually live by these crazy-ass rules. It was weird and funny, and you could never tell where the story was going.
I have to admit though; I think the book needed to be longer for this story to work better. The characters needed more depth and I wish we could have gotten to know them a bit better. Maybe learnt more about their pasts?
I also think that the storyline was such a great idea but then it wasn’t done very well at the end. It sort of just fizzled out, which was a real shame. This lowered my rating.

I will definitely read more by this author.

Huge thanks to Em, Giorgia, Vilda and Nicole for a really great Buddy Read. You guys are awesome.

This book was awesome and funny and HOT. At first I was worried because of the setting. I'm from the south, and not from the rich south, but the poor south, so I KNOW these types of people. I come from these types of people, my grandpa actually ran moonshine in his young and wild days.

But this book got everything so very right, and I was amazed. Even down to the "cotton pickin'", which was my grandpa's swear of choice, and I remember grandma always calling a bag a "poke".

Add to all this an amazing, funny plot, likeable characters, and hot sex scenes and you've got a total winner. I loved how Stunt just couldn't keep his mouth shut, and how Alex was trying so hard to do the wrong thing, for the right reasons. The fact that they are also very suited, kink wise, was just icing on this cake!

This book was such good fun. You can't help but love Stunt and Alex and there's a whole cast of other characters who completely hold their own. It's a glimpse into a unique way of life that has it's own rules. I really never expected to read an m/m book with a but it fit into the plot perfectly. I laughed my way through a lot of the story and I was sad when it came to an end. I can highly recommend this if you are looking for a fun story that will make you smile.

Quite honestly, at first I didn’t like Mountain Prey. It seemed implausible and not well-thought out. Then, I realized that that was the whole point! Alex’s plan isn’t very well-thought out. And Stunt, poor Stunt. He always seems to just stumble onto trouble every where he turns.

Mountain Prey is set in the Appalachian Mountains, home to generations of moonshine makers. Stunt (Stewart Folger) received his nickname the hard way; he earned it. A bunch of dumb stunts as a kid and a known penchant for BDSM with other men has made him know as Stunt. He is a forestry technician. Basically he trims back trees so the trail is usable. But to the folks in the mountains, he is still a Fed. The federal government signs his checks, so he is a Fed, the moonshiner’s natural enemy.

One thing sure to bring the Feds to the mountains and expose the mountain folks’ moonshine businesses are drug dealers living nearby. Well, Lyn Gala sets up the perfect scenario for this to happen when she moves known drug king-pin Michael Garrido onto the land next to one of the oldest of the moonshiners, Elijah Pierpont. This is where Alex Soto comes into the picture.

Garrido ordered the murder of Alex’s brother while Alex was in jail. Alex has decided to take justice into his own hands and kill the man who ordered his brother’s murder. While scoping out the security situation, he stumbles upon Stunt. Alex ties Stunt up and puts him in the back of his truck. This is an enormous turn-on for both men. They are both gay and Alex is a Dom to Stunt’s sub.

Adventure and hilarity ensue. Alex and Stunt decide to enlist the help of Elijah to get revenge on Garrido. Elijah is willing to help, after some convincing and with some conditions attached. The three cook up a plan involving a real kidnapping turned fake, a forced marriage and the involvement of the dreaded local and federal law enforcement.

Somehow it all comes together. The Feds think the local sheriff is incompetent and the sheriff keeps accidentally on purpose losing evidence. Even he doesn’t believe for one minute that Elijah Pierpont worked with Stunt. But, the hill people protect their own and that includes the sheriff. Stunt has no memory of the details of his kidnapping because of a real concussion.

Even without the kidnapping evidence, justice is done. Mountain Prey is like a hillbilly crime caper. The book comes together because it is so inconceivable. Whether Lyn Gala intended it or not, that’s why it worked for me. Highly recommended.

Well this was unexpected. I don't like BDSM much so I was leery when friends suggested I read this book. They said the BDSM was really just something to spice up their sex life. Well, no, it was very much their sex life completely.

But I loved it.

It helped that the BDSM in the sex was mild (although the referred to heavier BDSM in other places in the book). It helped that much of the book was the submissive saying that the things he liked during sex were actually terrifying in real life, and asking what was wrong with him for it. [Not that there is something wrong, but it is natural and logical for him to make that connection.] It helped that both protagonists talked about how natural it was for his genitalia to be "confused" about whether he should be aroused or so scared his testicles were hiding in his body. That felt real. It helped that it was only in the bedroom and they made it clear it wouldn't be 24/7. It helped that the book was funny. And it helped that there was kindness and need from both protagonists during sex. I think that's more normal, but not the way most of the BDSM I've read is portrayed.

It was great that ridiculous schemes and stories they concocted fell apart as was logical unlike most books which don't even acknowledge that schemes are silly at all. The tension and suspense were excellent. The book was laugh out loud funny in parts. The descriptions of the mountains were beautiful, even though they weren't lofty. For example, there wasn't talk of vast scenic views but a description of a destructive bug outside of its native habitat said so much.

I liked that the mountain dialect was present, although it was very inconsistent in the narrator and sometimes so much so it was jarring. For example, Stunt says "Land O' Goshen" in shock at one point when he also says regular profanity. It just didn't fit. But that really was the only problem I had with the book.

The best part was how the mountain backwoods people were presented. Many of the stereotypes were there, but they were explained in a way that didn't make them look stupid. Frequently outsiders underestimated the intelligence of these folks and suffered for it. I ended up appreciating if not loving the "hicks" that populated the book. I've never read anything like that about this type of people before.

This goes on my favorites list. A BDSM book. Go figure.

It was a nice read, very well written, with an engaging main character. I liked his ramblings.

I didn't dig the whole "mountain people" theme as much as I thought. The love interest was a bit pale and I couldn't find it as funny as some other readers - maybe due to me not being a native speaker, who knows.

So it was a good read - I also really liked the way the BDSM was incorporated into the stroy. I found it surprisingly hot, to be honest, and I normally don't dig that kind of stuff.

DNF @ 68%

I usually don't DNF stories this far in but the plot keeps getting dumber and dumber and I can't take it anymore. Things started out so well! The author does a stellar job showcasing the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains and its wonderfully unique culture. Stunt has two strikes against him: he's openly gay (and he's been openly and loudly gay since high school) and he works for the federal government as a forestry technician. The reason Stunt stays in this homophobic/anti-government community that barely tolerates him is because he loves living in the Appalachians and the culture and lifestyle are an important part of him. He knows that the mountains are the only place he truly fits in and his sexual orientation and his job don't run counter to his love for the Appalachian culture, no matter what his fellow mountain folks say about it. All of this was wonderful and I loved having Stunt showcase his love for the mountains and the people who have lived there for generations.

The rest of this review has to go under a spoiler tag because I discuss the plot in detail.

Lastly, Alex's ignorance really got on my nerves. No matter how slowly and clearly Stunt explained the thought process behind certain mountain logic, Alex just dIDn'T gEt iT. The concepts Stunt was explaining were very simple. A great example was when Stunt shared the story of an elderly moonshiner who was sentenced to 18 months federal time for moonshine activities and he committed suicide rather than serve his sentence. Stunt provided plenty of explanations why the man made this decision and it's very easy to understand but Alex just didn't get it. I think the author used Alex's ignorance as the excuse to explain mountain logic in depth but the approach made Alex look like an idiot so I wish the author had chosen a different way of doing things.

It's really too bad that the story devolved into such a ridiculous mess because I was loving it in the first half. Stunt and Alex were great, I loved the use of Appalachian culture and nature in the story and the BDSM aspect was also great. Unfortunately, the OTT plotlines meant I stopped being able to take this seriously and I'm calling it quits.

Review written for MM Good Book Reviews

So this is yet another book that I took on reading utterly blind, meaning I didn’t read the blurb, I didn’t care about the genre, nothing other than the author. Why? Well, because it’s Lyn Gala of course and somehow, somewhere along the run she made my favorite author’s list. Did I get disappointed from this? Nah, not a chance.

As a matter of fact Mountain Prey was the book I desperately wanted to read without even knowing why. It was made clear to me though from the first page what was that I needed and that was the fact that this book is absolutely, brilliantly funny and hilarious, which made my day and lightened my spirits. It was also ludicrous in so, so many ways. Mountain logic is a phrase you will encounter many times and by the time you’re done with the book, that very phrase will cause a whole fit of laughter to you on its own.

But let’s take a peek on the story. This is the incredulous story of Stunt (Stewart) and Alex. Stunt is mountain folk and Alex of course would be the city folk. Too very different cultures meet and crash and in the end of course come together in a stunningly beautiful way. Alex is on a vigilante mission, tracking down the man who killed his brother – who happens to be a big Drug Lord – up in the mountains. Bidding his time and checking this man’s routine and schedules so he’ll find the right time to make his hit, Alex stumbles right at Stunt, or was it the other way around? Oh yeah, Stunt, being a federal forester taking care of the trails, is the one who stumbles right on Alex, gorgeous Alex, ugh and perhaps psycho killer Alex? Stunt doesn’t know. What he knows is that he’s suddenly a hostage to a very strangle guy whose moods change in a heartbeat. What he discovers is that his kidnapper is not only on a vengeance mission to what he believes is a righteous cause and he also is very good, no extremely good with binding a man. Stunt should know, after all the years he’s spent in the bondage scene, after so many Dom’s having used ropes on him, Stunt does know that Alex is much more than he lets on a first sight. And so their adventure begins.

I had a blast reading this, I had to clutch at my belly and wipe away the tears because this story was way, way too funny. Stunt is a character so freaking unique, so funny albeit unwillingly so, so extraordinary, that it’s near impossible not to love him. It is obvious that this character was created with a lot of care and passion. He is a vortex that absorbs you into his world and doesn’t let you go instead makes you love irrationality in a way no other character has ever achieved.

And Alex, damn, no tell me who can resist a god on a vengeance mission? No one I assure you, but what I like more about this character was his Dom side. Now you know how I love myself the kink and BDSM scenes. I find few authors that can pull ‘em off and make ‘em real in a piece of paper, and well Lyn is one of them. The whole Dom/sub relationship that occurred, the buildup and the final strike, how it followed up and continued, the intimate scenes that left you near breathless, panting for air and fanning yourself because their hotness was simply unbearable. My God, what a gorgeous piece of work, what an erotic result, un-freaking-believable. And last but not least, I must, must mention Elijah. I will forever remember this character and hold close to my heart that damn shotgun wedding he performed that had me nearly pissing myself and hurt so much from laughing that I still feel sore on my abs.

There are so much to say about this book that if I indulged in all that I’d be writing on forever. Bottom end this was brilliant and so fresh that it managed to give me a new appreciation for this author. The book is totally worth the read, and then re-read, and then a twice a year dust off just for the fun of it. Definitely one of my favorites overall.

What a story! You have to take everything in stride, otherwise the magic is gone. "Mountain logic has a lot more logic than people might think" -- a "backward land where good is bad and suicide is a choice and killing someone you’ve known since they were born makes sense". That is the motto of this book. If you can abide by it, then it all makes sense and you will definitely enjoy Stunt and Alex's story.

All in all, a very good read. It has plenty of action, suspense, a dash of romance, enough BDSM to keep you hot and bothered and two very likable characters. 4.2 stars

I am not sure about this book. I felt it lacked a certain something. I think it just didn't feel real for me and I struggled to engage with the story and characters.

Stuart the main character, finds himself being taken captive by Alex who is pursuing a drug lord who had his brother killed whilst Alex was in prison. Stuart tries to offer his help with Alex's quest and this leads them into other situations, some of which are supposed to be life threatening. Stuart's capture takes place in a rural mountain area where the bible and the gun guide people and the State is the enemy.

The story didn't feel real to me. Several times during the story Stuart's life was supposed to have been in danger but it didn't feel to me that he was really fearful. I think the problem was that the book has such a jolly tone even though it is dealing with criminals, drugs and other illegal activity. I think for me it needed to have a dark tone and be really dark, or be funny and really comical. I felt that dark and funny didn't work here. It was neither and ended up sitting somewhere between dark and comical but not really delivering on either. It just felt implausible.

There were also elements of BDSM which didn't work for me. Stuart seemed unable to distinguish between being taken captive and his preferred kink. I found that odd. If your life was threatened and you were really scared would you be thinking about kinky sex? Hmmmm Well may be some people would, but I struggled to envisage it.

Apart from the fact that the story didn't work for me the writing is good. The pace, description and the characters and their interactions are great, just that I couldn't engage with it. I couldn't feel it. I think this is one of those marmite stories that you either like or dislike. I can't give it 2 stars because the story is better than that, but although I have given it 3 it wasn't really a 3 for me either, somewhere between the two.

Second read by this author - has the right mix of humor, plot and sexy times.

Little did foresty technician Stunt Folger know the day he set out on the trail, that he would meet his future husband Alex Soto, an ex-con bent on revenge against the drug dealer who has taken up residence in the mountains of Tennessee among old-time moonshiners.

This isn't the first time Stunt has been abducted or gotten into trouble and he just rolls with it and along the humorous way, he and Alex find their way to a big like.

Loved Stunt, I don't have a very good filter on my tongue so he just cracked me up with the situations he got himself into. A shotgun wedding, announcing to his high school he's gay, he is loud and proud and brave.

Alex is trying so hard to revenge his brother but does everything wrong.

And their kinks just matched up so well. Great read.
