The Guys Are Props Club

Rate this book
During her senior year in high school, Maddie Burch promised herself not to ever fall for a cute guy – or any guy – again. Cute guys are players and not to be trusted, a fact she learned the hard way when her first boyfriend ran her heart through a paper shredder. Two years later, her promise is still intact, and she’s determined to make it through college without falling victim to another creep. She has her job, school and The Guys Are Props Club to keep her mind and hormones in check.

The club was founded by Jessica, Maddie’s best friend. It is a sisterhood of girls who have fallen prey to heartless jerks and who have vowed to turn the tables. Once a semester, Jessica requires members to “do onto others as they’ve done unto you.” Setting the example, Jessica’s next play is Sebastian Capello, a theater major with heartthrob looks and a flair for Latin dance, whose heart she plans to break the way hers was once broken.

What the friends don’t know is that Sebastian is different. Despite his perfect looks and popularity, he’s not a jerk. He doesn’t play games to get his way. Instead, he keeps it real and goes after what he wants with honest intentions. And what he wants is not a bombshell like Jessica, but a down-to-earth girl like Maddie – even if it causes a riff in the girl’s friendship. Even if it means getting Maddie to break her personal vow.

*** Due to language and sexual situations this book is recommended for ages 17 and older.

First of all, I was lucky enough to receive this book as part of a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway and would like to thank all involved in that :)

And now on to the review. I really enjoyed this book. I have read one or two books all involving jilted girls forming 'man-hating' clubs but this one is now my new favorite. The reason for that was Maddie. She was far more mature than other heroines and while I found it a little on the annoying side that she kept doing or hiding things when she clearly knew better, I found her thoughts and attitude towards Jessica and the G.A.P. to be really mature considering the things she's been through. She doesn't like what the girls are doing and she recognizes that what everyone is doing makes them exactly the same as the ones to broke their hearts in the first place. She doesn't see the value in 'teaching guys a lesson' which was something I never really understood the point of. She's able to overcome her past heartache and grow as a person. In short, I really liked Maddie. She did a few annoying things but no one is perfect and her choices fit her character.

I loved Sebastian. I even love his name. Sebastian. For some reason reading this book as made me want to take up Latin dancing. I'm going to blame him for this. He was great. Funny, very sweet, obviously very good-looking. I was a little frustrated with him around the end of the book for how easily he accepted and how little he questioned but this IS a romance and the conflict must be there. The only thing that bugged me about him was how much power Maddie gave him. She seemed to judge herself based off of his reactions and attitude towards her and that irked the feminist in me a little. But he was incredibly sweet to her for the most part and I loved him.

But as awesome as the two main characters were, Hunter stole the book. He was hands down my favorite character. My favorite line also goes to him when he offers to beat up Sebastian for Maddie. LOVE. HIM. Wish he was in the book more <3

Overall, good book! Great quick read (I finished it in about 4 hours, with interruptions). Good characters, not an entirely original but definitely entertaining plot and a really sweet romance. Perfect for a beach day or an afternoon on the patio :)

Characters
Maddie is whiny, childish and weak at first. . She wants to be a doctor and she works at a hospital as part of her scholarship requirements.
She becomes more mature towards the end of the book

Jessica is even worse than Maddie. She's immature, crazy, a control freak and a rich brat. And that's all we know of her.

Sebastian isn't thaaaat swoon worthy. And I think I heard a little too much about his tight, butt hugging jeans and his dazzling emerald green eyes.

Hunter is a little kid who has cancer and he's my favorite character. He's just so adorable.

I loved the relationship between Hunter, Sebastian and Maddie

Writing & Story
The story line is actually good and the writing isn't bad.

There were some parts were I felt like the author was droning but it was mostly good.

The sex scenes were excessive. and unnecessarily descriptive.

Almost every book I've read that is in a series ends in a cliffhanger but this was different.
It can definitely be read as a standalone.

Generally
I asked for this book because I liked the blurb and the cover. but it was a bit disappointing
It's a quick and light read.
The book went too fast sometimes and it was slow at others.
It's not fascinating but it's an okay read.

Recommendation
I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this book but it's not a bad book

Maddie Burch promised to herself that she will not fall for any guy ever again. But unlike any other high school girls, she actually stuck to her promise. Even when Maddie goes to college, she is still true to her promise and is going to make sure that she keeps it that way. She also has a club that she and her best friend made, The Guys Are Props club, where boys are nothing but a toy to those girls and nobody is going to stop them. That is until Maddie meets a guy that is different and might just melt her heart away.

There are so many books that are all the same. Girls meets boy, boy is a jerk, girl cries, etc.. The Guys Are Props Club is completely different book where girls are actually the ones that have all the rules and are players. This was a quick and enjoyable read. I really like the characters and thought that they are relatable and strong.

***I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

I liked the idea of this story it did make me smile, I mean raise your hand if you like myself have got together with some girlfriends and over a bottle of wine and some chocolate sat around discussing of all the ways we have wanted to seek revenge on the guys who have left us broken hearted.

Maddie Burch was betrayed in a big way by her first boyfriend, having moved to college with a broken heart. Maddie's new roommate Jessica has a similar story and the two bonded and decided to swear off all men, especially the good looking ones whom they think are the players.

Jessica forms The Guys Are Props Club, aka the Gap club. Initially a place to meet, chat and share stories with other girls who feel that guys have played them also. They create playbook of rules on how to recognize a player and decide that they are going to play the players at their own game.

Maddie is not a fan of this idea she does mind the gap club for a bit fun, but she doesn’t want to do the plays, they are not what she is about, she has done one before, and she didn’t like how she felt afterwards. Things start to get complicated when she meets Sebastian Capello, Jessica next victim.

Maddie was a likeable character, and her heart was in the right place, it was good to see her mature during the book. I will say I did find her frustrating at the start as I felt she didn’t stand up to Jessica enough.

I like Sebastian, the sexy theater major and Latin dancer; he wasn’t a player, just a generally lovely guy, who likes Maddie’s down to earth nature. I loved how right at the beginning he saw straight through Jessica.

When it came to the secondary characters I didn't like Jessica, she is meant to be Maddie’s best friend, but I never got that feeling, she just rubs me up the wrong way, and I mainly found her annoying and selfish.

I loved Hunter the 9-year-old boy that Maddie meets. He is such a sweet adorable boy who made me smile all the time. I like the relationship that he, Maddie and Sebastian shared.

Overall this was a quick easy read by Ingrid Seymour that I enjoyed, Maddie and Sebastian certainly had the chemistry. If you're looking for a sweet romantic book that is low on drama, has an entertaining plot line that will make you laugh, smile and most importantly has no cliffhanger then I would recommend this book.

The Guys Are Props Club get 3 stars from me.

5 sweet stars!

The guys are props club is story with a very interesting consept.

It's a very sweet story about a good boy and a heartbroken girl...

Maddie doesn't want to be in relationship again because her last boyfriend broke her heart into piecies. She doesn't trusts any guys and especially the good-looking ones.

"RULE 1:All handsome guys are players."

But the Sebastian comes... a handsome guy. And he seems to be interested in her. But he is handsome so he must be a jerk, right?
WRONG! Sebastian is the opposite of "jerk". He is no player, he is kind and sweet and clear. He doesn't use any tricks in order to accomplish what he wants.

Will they make it? Will Madison learn to love and trust again? An when some secrets are revealed, will Sebastian fight for their love or is he going to give up?

There is only one way to find out... Read the book! 'Cause i'm not revealing anything to you :P

Enjoy!

*Also posted at Oops! I Read A Book Again*

Thank you so much Ingrid for the electronic review copy! As always, this in no way affected my opinions of the novel. So I've been spazzing about this book a lot on Twitter and I pretty much abused the exclamation mark in my email exchanges with Ingrid. Now, it's time for you to get to know why I am like this with The Guys Are Props Club!

I started reading The Guys Are Props Club one night at midnight because I couldn't sleep that night. I figured I'd sample a chapter or two to know what I'm about to read and review for the next week. Little did I know that it will suck me in until the wee hours before daybreak. A chapter became another chapter and soon I was plowing through this book like I had no apppointments the next day or I mean, that day itself. I finally stopped reading at 3AM for fear I'd go to the doctor looking like trash with a massive headache. But while I was waiting at the hospital and while eating lunch, all I did was read, read, squeal and read again. And squeal again.

(I know, the cover is yet another near kissing cover. But don't judge a book by its cover! Or am I just like this because the guy in the cover kind of resembles Zayn Malik? But anyway, don't let the cover make you not read this because this book isn't all kissing and half-nakedness. It has a wonderful story!)

So what's this book all about? Maddie came to college with her heart broken by her ex-boyfriend. Her roommate Jessica too. Together they bonded over their misery and met a couple more girls in the same situation. Jessica, with the help of Maddie, then established The Guys Are Props Club. At first, all they did was commiserate among themselves. But after a semester of eating ice cream and swearing off cute and handsome guys (because they're players), Jessica initiated doing plays. Members of the GAP Club chose a victim which they'll lead on and ultimately, break his heart like theirs was broken before. Maddie doesn't really like doing plays but she's the co-founder of the GAP Club and she's Jessica's best friend so she did it anyway last semester. With a new semester comes new plays and Maddie doesn't want to take part in it. Come along, lost Sebastian, who stumbles onto the GAP Club conference room instead of the dance room. Oozing with hotness and testosterone, Jessica claims dibs on him as her play. But Sebastian isn't interested in Jessica but on sweet and low-key Maddie. Conflicts arise when Maddie thinks she's starting to like Sebastian.

I don't know about you but I thought the plot to The GAP Club is something unique. Establishing a girl power club? Heck yeah! While I don't like pulling in plays as well, I do get the logic in Jessica's mind when she convinced the whole club to break some player hearts. That was why I agreed to review this. Because the plot really drew me in. Sure, you can probably guess what happens from that blurb but Ingrid Seymour had me completely reeled in to this one. Like I said, I didn't stop reading. I just want to know what's gonna happen next.

I loved Maddie. She's smart, what with her scholarship. She works in the hospital and although she's actually required to do that, she made friends with a ten year-old kid named Hunter. She visited him every chance she got, sneaked in the latest superhero movie for them to watch and was just the best visitor and friend Hunter severely needed at that point in his life. I loved her relationship with Hunter and that's my second favorite thing about this novel. Of course, the first would be Maddie and Sebastian. You can't just help but love Maddie. She's such a sweetheart even though her back story was painful and embarrassing that it can break a girl's esteem. I just like how low-profile and simple she is. She's not proud of pulling that one play before and deeply regrets it.

When you're ready Sebastian, come and get me~ Seriously, Sebastian is such a dream! He was as much delight as Maddie. Hispanic and a theater major and a dancer, SO HOT. But he's so honest and everything he says is heartfelt. He's a gentleman as well but he can hold it with Maddie with the witty remarks and all. He has such a good heart and is just an all-around nice guy. Even though he first visited Hunter to see Maddie, he eventually ended up friends with Hunter as well. And I just love guys who are great with kids. Maddie kept on pushing Sebastian because she's wary that he might break her heart but Sebastian is just as persevering. You know they would have to get over a lot of things and you're with them every step of the way. You just root for these two.

I also applaud the character development in this novel. Both Maddie and Sebastian grew within the span of the novel and you just know they're perfect for each other (even if just for the meantime). I even love Jessica's arc. Even though she wasn't such a best friend to Maddie and even with her scheming, her imminent semi-redemption at the end made up for it.

As for the romance, oh the romance. It was sweet and hot and steamy and in true Oliver Twist fashion, I want to say: "Please, sir (Ingrid), I want some more". Seriously. Just read it, you guys.

Before I forget to mention this, Jessica and Maddie created a rulebook for the GAP Club on how to spot players, how they act, what they look like, their styles, tactics, moves and games and it's quoted a lot of times within the book. And at the end of the book, the playbook is included. It's just so cool, kind of like Barney's playbook in How I Met Your Mother.

So after reading this, I was wondering what rating to give it. I was planning to give it a four but when I thought of reasons why I'm removing a star, I can't think of one. The pacing was great, I was glued to the page, the characters felt real, I was emotionally invested, I squealed at the romance, I can't think of anything worth removing a star for. So yes, The Guys Are Props Club gets five stars from me!

Check out my stop on The GAP Club Blog Tour and enter the giveaway for a KINDLE FIRE or a signed paperback!

The cover really didn't do much for me, to be honest, but boy oh boy... this book took me by surprise. I wasn't actually planning on reviewing this for the tour because I wasn't sure if I could fit it in my reading schedule. But it cleared so I decided to go ahead and give this a shot. And what do you know? I had a hard time putting it down! I slept so late even if I had a 7:30 a.m. class the next day and when I got to school, I read it during breaks. I got so hooked I didn't even have time to post status updates on Goodreads. THAT'S how gripping this story is.

The plot sounds unoriginal with play-the-player angle but before you pass judgment, let me tell you what exactly got me hooked: Sebastian. Is it so wrong that the main reason I enjoyed this book immensely is because of the love interest? I say not. You can't blame me! He's so... different. Different than most New Adult book boyfriends. Let's cover the basics first:

1. He's not just hot. He's Latino hot.
2. He's confident but in a charming way (that makes sense, right?)
3. He says all the right things.

But what makes him different? He's sensitive. And there's not a badass bone in his body. He's not your typical badass book boyfriend who actually has a heart of gold. What you see is what you get. He's into Latin dance, theater.... he serves tea to his guests. You read that right. Tea. Chamomile tea to be specific. I love all of that about Sebastian but the one thing that really endeared him to me was how fondly he spoke of his father. He truly idolized the man so he did his best to do everything his father taught him before he passed. And this is he's such a gentleman even to girls who come on too strong (*coughs* Jessica *coughs*). Sebastian gave me butterflies - I'm not kidding. You wouldn't be able to help the inevitable squealing and gushing.

So that's Sebastian. What about the main character, Maddie? Well, I love her too! I know I went on and on about Sebastian but that doesn't mean he overshadowed Maddie. Not at all. Maddie is a great character all throughout the book. She had a crappy past (something totally unexpected, by the way. Brownie points for that!) that gave her trust issues when it comes to guys. That's also the reason why she agreed to create the GAP Club with Jessica. I loved Maddie's back story and seeing how she overcame all the heartache. Aside from that, I enjoyed reading chapters where Maddie bonded with a ten year old cancer patient named Hunter. Those parts really made me smile because Hunter was such a darling and Maddie was so sweet to him. It showed a whole other part of Maddie that made her an even more lovable character.

The romance from the time Sebastian started flirting to them finally getting together was both sweet and hot. I couldn't get enough of these two! Maddie and Sebastian's chemistry was so amazing you'd fall in love with both of them. That's how great they are together. That's how addicting this book is.

I enjoyed the overall flow of the story. With this kind of plot the conflict is predictable but the way everything unraveled was surprisingly good. I just hate it when conflicts that are so easy to resolve happen for the sake of adding speed bumps to a story. Fortunately that didn't happen here. Everything... made sense. In the end, I think this book deserves 5 pink stars. It has a good plot, memorable characters, a steamy romance and just the right amount of conflict. It's a quick read that will have you reading nonstop and will most definitely leave you with a Sebastian hangover.

(I received a copy of this book for the tour. This did not, in any way, influence my opinion of the book.)

I enjoyed The Guys Are Props Club. It was a great NA contemporary romance with a heroine I respected and I devoured it quickly, eager to see what would happen next. Like many NA contemporary romances, the overall plot was straightforward and somewhat predictable in the way that fans enjoy, but the I also thought there were aspects to the story that were refreshing and unique.

The G.A.P. club was interesting. Jessica and Madison started the club after having their hearts broken in high school and needed an outlet to discuss their heartbreaks and disgust of players with other girls. I was expecting Madison to be a ruthless man-hating heroine, but she surprised me by being relatively understanding, less interested in breaking hearts and more interested in having a group of friends to share things with.

Sebastian was not your typical love interest. His allure was exotic instead of being due to any kind of bad boy or tough persona. Despite his ability to dance and his major in theater, he wasn’t feminine or sensitive like I thought he’d be. He was very masculine and confident. I loved that he didn’t have baggage or issues like a lot of bad boy personas, but he still had the tough demeanor that we all love. He was also charming and sweet.

I loved that the characters in The Guys Are Props Club had their own problems and history, but it wasn’t major or crazy like a lot of New Adult characters. It helped make the characters seem more realistic and since I've been devouring tons of New Adult contemporaries, I found it refreshing that no one had horrifying secrets that are completely abnormal. It just gets to be too much after awhile.

The attraction between Sebastian and Madison was electric. I loved how they interacted with each other and found myself rooting for them from the moment they met. They were just so great together. And Sebastian made my heart melt when he took an interest in the little boy Madison cared about from the oncology ward at the hospital where she worked. It was just so sweet.

I definitely recommend The Guys Are Props Club! I was expecting a somewhat revenge filled story like that of John Tucker Must Die or Burn For Burn, but I got a totally heart wrenching contemporary romance with characters I cared about instead! It was amazing. It’s a great read, completely refreshing, and well written. I loved that it was a stand alone novel, too. I’ll definitely read more from Ingrid Seymour in the future!

Who here remembers that movie John Tucker Must Die? Come on, I can’t be the only one In any case, the premise of this book sort of reminded me of that movie. A bunch of high school girls trying to make the hot guy fall in love with one of them, so she can turn around and dump him, to teach him a lesson.

In The Guys are Props Club (aka G.A.P.), these are college girls that have been hurt by a man at some point, and now join together to not only support each other, but to actively make a college boy fall for them and then turn around and dump him for revenge. They call this a “Play”. The main character Maddie, and her wealthy and beautiful roommate Jessica head up the club. One night they run into the hot and popular Sebastian. The problem is that Jessica is trying to use him as a “Play” for the club, but he’s only interested in Maddie. She finds herself torn between fighting her feelings for Sebastian and trying to remain loyal to Jessica and G.A.P.

My only issue with the story was that it felt like a YA book trying to be an NA book. I love both genres, but this had too much of a mix. The premise was YA, but it wasn’t gritty enough to be NA. I would have liked to see this play out in high school with Maddie still living at home with her mother and their volatile relationship (I won’t spoil it, but she did not have the best upbringing with her mom).

This was a great debut for Ms. Seymour and I will definitely add any future books that she writes to my TBR. In her bio, she states that she would love one of her books to be made into a movie. She shouldn’t rule out other forms of media though, because I have to say that The Guys Are Props Club would make a PERFECT television series!

My Thoughts:

The Guys are Props Club grabbed me right away, and before I knew it, I was hooked! The story is told soley form Maddie, the main character's point of view. She is the co-founder of "The G.A.P. Club." Maddie was devastated in her senior year of high school by her first love. As a freshman in college, she became quick friends with her roommate Jessica, who was also left broken-hearted when her first love left her. The two quickly bonded, and became best friends. As they cried together, moped, and complained about their exes, Jessica came up with the idea for "The Gap Club." Maddie thought Jessica was joking, but went along with it, when she realized that her roommate was series. Their freshman year of college, they got other broken hearted girls to join the club, and they all bonded over their broken hearts. Then, sophomore year in college, Jessica developed "plays." Women put money in a pot and pledged a certain amount of "plays." For each "play" they completed, they got a raffle ticket towards winning the large money pot at the end of the semester. The club had a set of rules on how to identify players, and these rules were developed by Maddie and Jessica. "Plays" were developed by targeting a certain guy (who was thought to be a player, based on "The G.A.P. Club" rules, then make him fall in love with you, dump him, and teach him a lesson.

Maddie had been coerced by Jessica to make a "play," last semester on a guy named Brian, and felt horrible about it. She realized that it was wrong, and she didn't want to do it ever again. Instead of telling her friend the truth, she tried to make excuses about why she couldn't participate in the "plays." Jessica pledged 6 "plays," and takes it upon herself to sign Maddie up for a play. Before a G.A.P. meeting starts, a gorgeous, green-eyed, guy walks in to the wrong room, looking for the Latin Dance Club. Right away Jessica stakes her claim, and tells Maddie that he will be her first "play" for the new semester. She grabs Maddie and they attend the first dance class. Jessica flirts shamelessly with Sebastian. Maddie thinks he's gorgeous, and gets tongue tied around him. Sebastian ends up being one of the dance teachers, and finds himself being annoyed with Jessica's extreme forwardness, and attracted to Maddie. Things get tense between the two friends, the more Jessica pursues Sebastian, and he avoids her. All the while, Maddie develops inner conflict, as she tries to stay out of Jessica's way, protect her heart, and attempts to push Sebastian away. However, Sebastian is patient, persistent, and knows what he wants. The more Maddie gets to know him, the more she likes what she sees, and she begins to wonder if Sebastian might be a nice guy after all. The question becomes, "Will Maddie risk her heart, and give Sebastian a chance?" Or, "Will she stay loyal to Jessica, and The G.A.P. Club?"

I really enjoyed this story! Maddie and Sebastian were two characters that I grew extremely fond of. I connected with Maddie, and was rooting for her to get her happily ever after. She was a hard worker, had a huge heart, and wanted to be a pediatrician. She did internship hours in the children's Oncology Ward, and got attached to 9 year old Hunter. Their friendship was sweet, and I loved Hunter's character. Jessica seemed a bit "stalkerish," and unbalanced. I didn't trust her from the beginning, because she came off as self-centered, spoiled, and narcissistic. Sebastian was a great character. He was good looking, smooth on the dance floor, a gentleman, intelligent, and there was depth to him that made him more than what he first appeared. I loved the college setting, and could picture it, along with the characters vividly. The descriptions were seamless, and the plot was fun!

My Rating:

I give The Guys Are Props Club by Ingrid Seymour 4 Highly Addictive, Fun, Fast-Paced, Romantic, and Entertaining Stars! You will fall for Sebastian! He is sweet, Swoon-Worthy, Romantic, and Sexy all wrapped into one gorgeous package. You will be rooting for Maddie to give him a chance. The attraction, and chemistry between these two is magnetic! Read The G.A.P. Club for a great New Adult Contemporary Read!

My Favorite Quotes:

"We definitely have some amazing chemistry, Sebastian said after his careful exploration. I'm sure you've noticed. And that's all well and good, but there's more to a relationship than just physical attraction. Like I said, I want you whole. I want to know you." (eARC, Loc. 1468)

"I'm not...we're not...I'm not having sex with you, I blurted out. Pressing me against the elevator wall, he ran a finger down my cheek. I know, he breathed on top of my lips. We're not ready for that. One day, but not tonight. Tonight, I have a million questions to ask you. I want to know your favorite color and food, your middle name, what makes you so irresistible, and many other things." (eARC, Loc. 1510)

"I felt like clay in his hands. I was so feverish it seemed like a distinct possibility that I might melt." (eARC, Loc. 2899)

Excerpt:

She always got guys to ask her out pretty quickly, but this had to be some kind of record. Still, I shouldn’t have been surprised. It was a known fact to all G.A.P. members and also stated in Rule No.14 of the G.A.P. Playbook that a guy’s sluttiness is directly proportional to the level of his egotistical good looks. And in most cases, inversely proportional to the size of his . . .

I'll start with the negatives because I loved this book so much, I can afford to do that with this review.

* The heartbreakingly atrocious cover. It just screams "Disregard me as a decent piece of literature!" and "Please! Feel free to judge me before you know what lies within!" while at the same time inducing hard shudders of revulsion.

* The misleadingly campy beginning chapter which introduces us to the G.A.P. club and its sob-story-havin' group of females at the head of which stands Jessica, blonde bombshell, and Maddie, our protagonist.

*Oh, and that devastatingly ill-conceived title. Although understandable in its selection, it also screams, "This book is worthless and in all likelihood poorly conceived not to mention motherlessly executed!"

Aaaaand... that's about it. Because as soon as I got past those three things (which is a hard thing for me to do and with this title happened all too quickly), I found out, just as quickly, that I was in love with this book because:

* Maddie. She was admittedly a little weak in the beginning, but she totally owns up to it, calls herself out on it and makes valid, far-reaching attempts to right it, so that by the end of the book, she actually is a stronger-willed, more upfront person. Plus, she valued honesty, and that's something I thought I'd been relegated to spend my days alone valuing (even if the only participant in that particular school of thought happens to be fictional...), as well as grades and finances and responsibility.

If I wasn't careful, soon I'd be trying to convince myself that dating was a good idea, natural, and that I had needs. My stomach churned, repulsed at the thought.

Needs?! I shook my head. Animals had needs. I had priorities.
9%

* Sebastian. Yes, he's ulta-super-gorgeous, but I completely understood why, and it kinda makes it even better that he was ridiculously sincere, well-put together, sweet and basically undermined Maddie's entire image of "cute guys" all bein' "players" down to the last. Anyone who can undermine a stereotype like that and remain realistic goes to the top of my yay list. Plus, he was a dancer, Cuban and not perfect. And his Daddy raised him right. (I love good dads! More good dads in modern literature, please?!)

* Their chemistry. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

"So here's what I know about you, Madison," Sebastian started. "You're beautiful, smart, dedicated. You have a huge heart, a killer bod. [...] You'd think with all of that," he continued, "I wouldn't need to know more, but I want to learn everything there is to learn about Madison Riley Burch. I want to know you... inside and out. 49%

* The writing. You knew it was comin'; I almost always mention the writin'. I was so very surprised to find that the narrative flowed well, and Maddie's first-person voice flowed even better. It sucked me instantly into the story (despite my earliest impressions of it bein' heavy on the camp) and, seriously, even if I had wanted to let go, there was no way it was gonna let me. Points.

* Hunter! The wrathy 10-year-old cancer patient with a huge crush on Maddie! He was adorable, even if he was a little surly.

* All the feels this book made me feel. I'm totally a feeler when it comes to ratin' a book. If the tensions are high, I usually feel it in my throat or my chest. (With Seraphina, it got so bad I couldn't breathe!), and this book definitely had me swallowin' some tough stuff down a few times. That's when I really know I'm invested, and I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that I'd fallen in love with this story.

Keeping my heart safe was starting to feel more labor intensive than picking up the broken pieces had been. And what if... what if my heart was safe with Sebastian? Wouldn't it be easier to just let it happen? Wasn't fighting what I felt twice as hard? 55%

* The resolve! Oh, the resolve. It's not perfect, but in that, it's only all the more true-to-life. A scene or two felt rushed, but that didn't detract from the overall wrap-up, and I definitely enjoyed the end-all-be-all afterward.

* Preeeetty much everything else. Ever.

So, havin' stumbled upon this as I scanned one of my too-often-neglected subscriptions to Free E-books, I must say I am pleasantly beside myself and extremely excited to have stumbled across this gem. Now if only someone would change the title and cover to reflect the surprising depth inside...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The mix of romance, wonder, angst, and fun were just a delightful mix. Ingrid delivered excellent imagery, so well I could actually hear the beat in my head and was ready to move to the beat! Honestly I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book or not. I saw the blog tour going and decided to sign up, since it sounded like a light read. Something occasionally I need between my heavy angst ridden books of torture that I love so much. I’m glad I decided to read this and join the blog tour though, because Ingrid is one talented writer.

When I first started reading, I didn’t imagine how entranced I would become. The writing flowed so nicely and the characters were just wonderful. Maddie stole my heart with her adorableness and the fact that she was so relatable. Even though I wasn’t exactly sure what this book would entail, I wasn’t fond of the idea of a club. However, the club grew on me because of what it stood for. How many times have we been wronged by people? Had our hearts broken? Enough is enough. That’s what Jessica (Maddie’s roommate and best friend) decided when the two of them started the club. I was impressed with the witty banter and the whole guys suck, let’s use them instead of them using us idea. I totally got into the whole girl power thing. Then Sebastian came along. Seriously… there is something about that name that I adore. Add sweet, humble, honest, and latin dancer to the mix, and you have a MAJOR heartthrob!!

The story that evolves between Maddie, Jessica, and Sebastian is one of a kind. At times I felt bad for each one of them. At other times I wanted to slap them. Yeah, for being a “light” read, it was a little emotional. This novel is basically about stereotyping people. He’s handsome and charming? Must be a player. I get that, I’ve done the same thing. Except for the fact that some people just surprise you. I’ve had plenty of those reactions too. Unfortunately, I have judged people before I met them. I’m sure they do it with me to. I tend to throw off the unapproachable look, and that I’m a bitch. But you should get to know me, I’m only part bitch ;) I swear! Sebastian fell trap to this too, and guess what - he was THE exception. Jealous?! I know I am. I think I’m jealous of all my book boyfriends. ( I secretly wish they’ll come to life and sweep me off my feet!)

The development of the characters and the story were no less than beautiful. As much as I did like this book, I did realize that it’s not my typical read. They’re ok once in a while for me, but… I feel unfair in giving it a lower rating JUST because it’s not MY type of book. I thought this book was amazing. I really think that you would find it stunning as well. I guess I’m glutton for punishment, because even though The GAP Club did have its moments of unexpected angst, betrayal and pure brilliance, it wasn’t enough for me. Masochist much? Yep. I believe I am. All in All, I wanted to give this book more than I did – but I pride myself on honesty. Brutal at times, and a bit blunt… but honesty. Hear me now, I DID really like this novel. It just wasn’t enough for me. A little too fluffy for my taste. Like I said, there is betrayal and angst, but it skims the surface. I like to dig down deep for those secrets and expose them.

I look forward to future/past works of Ingrid’s for the fact that I was completely enthralled with her writing style. Even though this particular story wasn’t “for me”, reading other works from Ingrid is most definitely NOT ruled out. Again, I enjoyed this read. The pacing was great and while reading, it flew by until I was at the end and like whoa? Did I really just read all that!? Again- great book. I hope that someone picks this up and enjoys it just as much as I did – if not more.

Totally loved this book! The Guys Are Props Club was an absolutely wonderful New Adult romance. I loved every bit of it!

I was a bit unsure going into this book. Though it sounded great, the idea of a club that targets "players" and breaks their hearts could have easily been an issue. For one thing, that's really mean, to set out to break a guy's heart. For another, it isn't really fair to label all handsome guys as players just because one broke your heart. And, though I understand that it was a kind of revenge, they were taking out their anger on guys who hadn't done anything to them. But, somehow, the author made it work. She made it understandable why girls would do it without justifying it. So I still liked the characters and supported them. Kudos to the author for managing that.

Maddie was a great heroine. I thought that I would have an issue with her because of the GAP club, but honestly the way she got her heart broken made all her anger understandable. It wasn't just a messy break up. It was an epic heartbreak on an unbelievable level. So, I couldn't fault her for her bitterness. But, even when doing the plays, she didn't feel right. She might be bitter, but she was still a really nice person at heart and the plays never sat well with her. So, she decides it's high time she gave them up and moved on. If only her friend, Jessica, would let her. I really liked Maddie. She was easy to relate to and very likable. I thought she was wonderful.

Sebastian...
I don't think swoon-worthy even begins to cover how amazing he is.
He's not just a pretty face (and it's a VERY pretty face). He's also a genuinely nice guy. Sweet and honest and charming and just perfect. It took me all of two pages to adore him. And, goodness does he sound attractive. The epitome of "tall, dark, and handsome." Tan skin, dark hair, green eyes, perfect features. Think Zayne Malik or Enrique Iglesias with green eyes. *fans self* Wow, right? I adored him. He was *sigh* absolute perfection.

The romance was so sweet. Maddie and Sebastian were wonderful together. And there was chemistry between them from the first meeting and the sparks kept flying from there. I loved these two together. They were a lovely couple.

I have to mention Jessica, since she played such a big part in the book. This girl is a manipulative bitch. There's no nice way to say it. She was mean and stuck in the past. She seriously needed to move on with her life and get over herself. And the stunt she pulled near the end? Ridiculous. Yet, despite how much I disliked her for most of the book, when she had a chance to explain herself near the end, I was actually sympathetic. It's really a feat to get me to feel bad for a character after I spent most of the book cursing their existence. It's a testament to the author for achieving that.

The plot was fast paced and I was totally hooked the entire way through. There were surprises and the reveal of how Maddie had her heart broken had me reeling. I mentioned it before, but, wow. It's worse than anything a soap opera could come up with. The one thing I wish had been added was closure for the issue Maddie had with her mom. Honestly, with what happened, her mother doesn't even deserve forgiveness, but I was curious about what she had to say for herself. Otherwise, this story was perfection. And the ending was a wonderful wrap up to the book.

The Guys Are Props Club was a brilliant New Adult Romance. It's definitely on my list of favorite NA books. To say I loved it would be an understatement. It was just perfect. Lovers of New Adult romance, if you're looking for a fantastic read, than this is your book.

People could be categorized as such: Players and Those Who Get Played. Maddie Burch has been Played before and it was not an experience she’d like to go through again. As a member, and especially as the co-founder of The Guys Are Props Club, she’s supposed to Play guys to give them a taste of their own medicine. Sebastian- latino, hot, down-right charming and aware of all his glorious traits- is the perfect victim. Jessica, the president of The G.A.P. Club and Maddie’s roommate and best friend, is determined to Play him. Too bad for her, his ravishing green eyes are gazing at Maddie.

I must say: I loved this book!!!!! I thought the idea of this club, and the plot in general was excellent!! Despite it not being new, it felt refreshingly unique. I didn’t need much convincing to want to read this one because I was easily interested when I read the synopsis. I remember reading Elizabeth Eulberg’s The Lonely Hearts Club (YA), which had somewhat the same concept, girls bonding over broken hearts and all. I enjoyed that one and I found myself enjoying The G.A.P. Club just as much- if not, even more.

Maddie was a great protagonist. She was easy to like and was even more easily someone you’d want to root for. I admired how compassionate she was- especially with Hunter, a kid from the Pediatric Oncology ward, where Maddie worked. I have this thing for kids in books! I cannot resist their cuteness! My heart totally went to Hunter. (Sorry, Sebastian haha)

Going back to Maddie. I love how she knows what she wants in life. She’s so sure about becoming a doctor. She’s smart, kind and driven and I think she’d be perfect for the job. Maddie has such a big heart. She’s a good-natured person and you could sense that from her hesitancy to do Plays. Plays are just so incredibly wrong and I was happy that Maddie didn’t want to participate in such activities anymore. (There would be some serious issue here if she did) I loved how mature she was, especially towards Jessica.

Jessica, instead of acting like a best friend, was pretty much more of the antagonist of the story. I do believe though that she was an important element here. As much as I thought of her as a total female dog throughout the book, I came to understand her towards the end.

Last but not the least, there’s Sebastian. I’ll just nickname him Seb because we’re close like that. Kidding. Sebastian is everything a girl could ever want. He’s GORGEOUS. (I feel the need to emphasize this) I get how a girl couldn’t trust a guy as handsome as he is. But Sebastian is not all looks. He’s a great guy- sensitive AND honest. I love how he’s so straight-to-the-point and how he doesn’t mess around or play games. It’s hard not to fall in love with him- what with his witty and heartfelt words. I adored him and Maddie together! When they’re not busy being cute and funny, they’re getting all hot and steamy. (Like before, I feel the need to emphasize on HOT)

Overall, The G.A.P. Club was a fantastic read. The ending left me feeling satisfied and I thought the Playbook was totally cool, despite not agreeing with the Play idea. It was easy to predict how the story would go but it remained exciting. This was fast-paced and light but it made me laugh and swoon. If you like New Adult books- you have to pick this up right now. A perfect balance of sweet and sexy, this book is definitely one of my faves from the genre. I absolutely recommend it!

Have you ever experience being heartbroken? Feeling as if your heart is being stomp on by an elephant or shattered into tiny million pieces. I know you do, in fact, we all experienced that before. And that’s why The G.A.P Club is formed. Jessica and Maddie thought up an idea (it’s mostly Jessica) to get back to the guys that are just like those ones who hurt them—the kind of guy who plays girl’s heart in the palm of their hands—the playboy kind of guy. Maddie’s been feeling crappy for what they did to guys and she’s planning to lay low and maybe gradually let herself out in the club this semester. Then enter Sebastian, hottie extraordinary. The kind of guy that really looks like a player and Jessica wants him to be her next victim. Unfortunately, it’s not Jessica that Sebastian’s attracted to, it’s Maddie. And Sebastian is not what they think he is. He might not be the kind of guy that they thought he would be. As the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover or in this case, don’t judge someone by just how he looks.

The Guys Are Props Club is the answer to my prayer. It’s my saving grace. It saves me from going through a reading slump. Lately, I’ve been feeling pretty hopeless because all the books I’ve been reading these past few weeks just fell flat for me and I just desperately want to read a good book that will caught all my attention to it, that will help me forget my stressful life as a student and that will make me feel that feeling of enjoyment out of reading a book. And thankfully, my answer came in the form of this book.

This is one of those books that you will have a hard time thinking up of adjectives that could suffice to its awesomeness. The moment I read the first page, I already have a gut feeling that I will really love the book. And I was right, it really caught my attention to the point of finishing it in one sitting when I originally plan on just reading the first few chapters. This book is the bomb! I can gush over it for several hours and not get tired of it. It was THAT awesome.

What I especially like in this book was Maddie. I didn’t really expect that she would actually be an enjoyable character to read about. She’s witty and I love the fact that it took her quite a long time before she succumb and admitted to herself that she’s in love with Sebastian. I also love Sebastian! It’s not every day that you’ll encounter a guy like him—a hot straight guy who dances ballroom. I’m amazed as to how far he’s willing to do anything just to prove that he’s serious about Maddie and also to show her that he is not the guy that she thought he was. He’s deemed to be included in my list of drool worthy guys.

The pacing of the story is just right. It’s not too slow that you’ll eventually fall asleep and it is also not too fast that you will have a hard time keeping up with the things that are happening in the book, it’s the right perfect pacing. Two thumbs up to the author!

The Guys Are Props Club deserves to get a five shimmering stars. I strongly insist suggest for you to get a copy of this book and start reading it as soon as you got your own copy. You’ll miss the bragging rights in reading this gem if you don’t read it.

I've been out and about doing this review for a while now since I have finished reading the book. I've been so busy when Ingrid emailed me and sent me the book, and well, I still have not found the time to read the book then. The time ran slow and the PinoyBookTours (thanks to the tweet that I've read) was holding the tour. Since I'd be reading the book anyway, I decided to join in. And yeah, this happens. (:

I took the time reading the book, actually. Like I've read it a month or three weeks before the tour and I loved it like really loved it! I actually felt the college “feels” since I'm in college and the things... It was the oh-so-awesome-love sensations you don't want to miss! I couldn't get over it in two wide weeks! It was like its real and I can actually feel it. I'm blabbering. I know! Can this feeling just get better?? ((=

So, as I was reading the book, I can't help but be swooned by Sebastian Capello. He's really cute and fun and everything that a girl wants in a guy. He's ultimately sweet and amazing. Did I mention that he's a freaking magician? Well, he is!
" Even when I found the most amazing man, a man who seemed to care about me, something about me wasn't good enough to keep him from leaving." - Ingrid Seymour, The Guys Are Props Club.

College is such a busy and serious thing to care about. Especially when you're after the scholarship. Maddie tried and did her best to concentrate with her studies, forget the guy who betrayed her, and not to fall in love again. Not until she met Sebastian Capello. When he came barging in the hall while The GAP Club was holding the meeting, she thought that he was just some random, flirty guy who gets to play with girls.

Soon, Sebastian tried to get to her, invite her to clubs, dance with her, and ask her out. She then falls for him and worries he might know about the club and might thought that she was Playing him. One day, she was ready to tell him the truth, because honestly, he was after Honesty. Everything didn't end well and voila, I cried over the following scenes.

The best part for me was Hunter's birthday. I get to really feel the emotions and it was heavy, like it was happening to me. That slap-in-the-face feels. Ugh! I wanna cry. It was overwhelming and it was sweet and it hurts so much I really felt broken. It was a massive roller coaster ride and I have to actually stop and flush down the feelings first! I wish I could say more besides all the lovey feelings I felt. Hihihi! I just can't force myself to say more besides it's beautiful and very surreal! Love happens when you least expect it.

It's very bold, a roller coaster ride of emotions, interestingly beautiful and sweet. Nothing beats teenage love!
"No matter how hard I've tried or how badly I want to," he said, "I haven't been able to stop thinking about you." - Ingrid Seymour, The Guys Are Props Club

Madison Burch and her best friend Jessica met their freshman year in college are now roommates. They bonded with one thing in common.....they were both burned by their former high school boyfriends, big time. As a result of this, The Guys are Props Club, G.A.P., was founded by Jessica with the help of Madison. What started out as a support group has now evolved into something else, thanks to Jessica, something that Madison really isn't sure she wants to be a part of. Jessica has a challenge each semester for the girls in the club. It's called "Plays." What that means basically, is that each girl targets a guy and plays him, convincing them to fall in love with them, then dumping them in a bad way. Jessica thrives off this, where as Maddie doesn't feel good about it at all. As a matter of fact, she regrets the one play she has taken part in a lot. Where as Jessica is outgoing, rich, outspoken, and flirty, Maddie struggles to make ends meet with her scholarship, is quiet, reserved, and focused on her career, but she doesn't want to desert Jessica, so she sticks it out with her, despite her reservations. This year is different though. Jessica targets the Latino hottie Sebastian Capello as one of her plays, but Sebastian isn't the player they think he is. When Maddie starts to have real feelings for him, and he for her, it creates problems.....problems Maddie wasn't expecting and doesn't want to deal with. Nonetheless their attraction is undeniable. Can Maddie find true love again? What will happen to her friendship with Jessica? Worst of all, will things blow up in her face if Sebastian finds out the truth behind her past and what she has done?

I really enjoyed The Guys are Props Club. I love college romances, so that drew me in immediately. The premise for the story sounded intriguing to me, and I found it to be fun and interesting. I liked Maddie's character and enjoyed watching her grow into her own person apart from Jessica and make choices regarding her life, her future, Sebastian, and the things that she truly wanted to stand for. The chemistry between Maddie and Sebastian was off the charts hot, and Sebastian is the kind of guy who would just melt in your mouth. He has the whole Latino thing going on, is sexy, knows how to dance, and is very sincere, up front, honest, and persistent with Maddie. There relationship develops over the course of the book, and despite their intense attraction, they take things slowly, but Jessica proves to be a threat that they didn't see coming. Maddie and Sebastian face many obstacles, with the truth being the biggest obstacle of all. Jessica is one of those girls you like to dislike. There were also a couple of other secondary characters that I enjoyed getting to know. Overall, The Guys are Props Club is fun, entertaining, and romantic and I really did enjoy it. If you are a fan of New Adult Contemporary Romance, then you may want to check this out.

When I saw this book on twitter, I was like, “DAMN! I really need to read this book!” and I really thought that this book is different, and yes it is. And thank goodness, because I participate on this blog tour and had a chance to read this book.
What’s this all about? Because I love you, I’ll just give a glimpse, I will not spoil you. Tehehe

Maddie’s bestfriend, Jessica built the club called The Guys Are Props Club (The GAP) in this club, all girls members gathered here and tell their story about their past relationship and once a year they are pulling Play, where they will find a guy who is they think is a player, seduce him, make him fall in love then dump him, just like what their past boyfriends did. But Maddie Burch doesn’t want to participate anymore in their Play because of her studies and financial status, but Jessica keep on insisting her. Come along, Sebastian, who is lost, tumble at The GAP conference room wearing all the hotness, Jessica make him the victim but Sebastian is not interested in him but to Maddie. And this where the story starts, Maddie thinks she’s falling for him. But she promised herself not fall in love in a guy after what happened to her past relationship.

Maddie, is sweet & smart girl, she maintained her scholarship no matter what, she likes to be a doctor. She works at hospital, and make friend with one of the kids there, Hunter, Oh I love this kid. She helps him to ease his pain by visiting him and playing with him. They watched movies together with superheroes on it. It really makes me smile while reading it.

Meet Sebastian, oh boy! Italian, baby! Theater major and a dancer, yes a dancer not with a hip hop thing, he danced Latin Dance. I always thought that guys who dance like that are a gay but Sebastian Capello makes a new meaning to it. Ekk! So sexy! Sebastian try to hits on Maddie, no, he really likes Maddie so he thinks how to make Maddie fall in love with him, little did he know, Maddie likes him too but something about Maddie that makes it stop so she will just keep on pushing him. But he didn’t give up.

Secrets revealed, Twist on the end. And I want more!
The plot of The GAP Club is really unique. Girl power, yeah! About the Play, I disagree with it; I think let the Karma do its work, maybe just give them something they doesn’t forget and just it!

This book is really awesome. It will draw you in. It keeps you wanting more. Applause for Ingrid, for awesome debut novel! Really great!

I never been a heartbroken before but I still know what it feels like through my friends, other people, books I read and movies I watched so I still feel the heartache that Maddie felt. And the list that Maddie and Jessica made will give us girls how to spot players and how they act.
Read this book, its worth of everything!

Maddie Burch has one goal while she's away at college...stay away from guys at all costs. After having her heart broken brutally, Maddie doesn't even want to risk putting her faith in a guy again. It's safer to just keep focused on her classes. That might have been easier if she hadn't met Jessica. She and her new friend Jessica bond over their recent unhappy relationship endings, and when Jessica comes up with the idea for a type of brokenhearted support group, Maddie's all in. Until the support group becomes more of a "let's get revenge on men" group instead, complete with rules about how to pull plays on guys and break their supposedly deserving hearts..

From the beginning you can tell that even though Maddie and Jessica are close friends, they are very different young women. Maddie's soft heart was crushed, but she wants to move on with her life. Meeting Jessica and starting the GAP club seemed like a step in the right direction at first, but when Maddie meets Sebastian everything changes and the differences between the two girls becomes more obvious by the day.

What I really enjoyed about Maddie's character was that she was someone almost any girl could relate to. She wants to fall in love with the perfect guy, but she's lost faith that there is even such a thing. She wants to be there for her friend, but their clashing morals an opinions make it hard to stick by her. Maddie makes mistakes. She isn't perfect, and she doesn't always know how to fix the messes she gets herself into, but she has a good heart and readers will find it easy to connect with her.

The relationship that develops between Maddie and Sebastian will keep readers on their toes. Not only is there plenty of steamy moments and intensity, there is a great interplay between their personalities. Sebastian is sweet and believes the best about people. Maddie wants to be that best version of herself that he sees, which includes being honest with him about her involvement in the GAP club. That is easier said than done though. Despite the sweet quality of their relationship, Seymour keeps you guessing with ups and downs, plays and games. Nothing is easy for these two!

Jessica makes a great villain in this book. She's very believable. Her frustrations and jealousy blossom in a way readers will be able to relate to, even if they couldn't see themselves doing the things she does. But beneath the viciousness Jessica can sometimes show, there are glimpses of a much deeper inner struggle.

Overall, this was a fun and entertaining read. The characters are well developed and the relationships between the characters are rich and realistic. There is profanity in this book as well as several graphic sexual scenes, so I wouldn't recommend this book to teens, but it was a great introduction to the GAP series.

Before I start, I would like to thank Dianne of Oops! I Read a Book Again for including me in the blog tour and for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing book.

I have to admit that before I read this book, I didn't really think much of it because I didn't know the author. The only reason I signed up for the blog tour is because I read a similar book entitled The Heartbreakers Association from Wattpad and loved that book, so I was curious how this one would turn out to be. Would it be similar to The Heartbreakers Association, or would it be worse? What didn't enter my mind was how different this is from that book, and how awesome it turned out to be.

I wouldn't do a recap anymore, for I fear that this would be too long. I'd just go straight to what I thought. At the first few parts, I found that the concept for the club is very similar to that of The Heartbreakers Association, but then as I read on, the story became its own in my opinion, and I started to admire the main character, Maddie.

Unlike the book from Wattpad, Maddie was able to let go of the past and move on, while her best friend Jessica got stuck in that stage. She actually felt guilty for pulling a Play. Also, it helps that Maddie likes kids like I do. Her being friends with Hunter, a young cancer patient, made me love her and the book all the more. She went along with him, and she really showed the characteristics that I like.

Enter Sebastian. At first he really seemed like the typical player, and he even fits their description of a player perfectly. I actually didn't believe the synopsis when it said that he's a good guy. I thought, there must be some hidden agenda here. But no, he's actually honest, a gentleman, and has everything you would want from a guy. And then he met Hunter, and I loved him from then on. He was patient with him, and I just love it when a guy is good with kids!

All in all, the book was really great. There were enough interesting and appropriate twists and turns, the pacing was amazing, and I just loved the plot! Plus, major plus points for being my first 5-star review in a looong loooong time. If you're looking for a New Adult novel that is different from the rest, I strongly suggest you check this one out. You'll be surprised by how much you'll like the book.

The Guys Are Props Club was definitely a quick and fun book to read. I love the idea of turning the tables so instead of guy players, now there are heartbroken girls out for revenge. It's actually a pretty scary idea, especially when the club leader is rich, beautiful, and out to shred hearts. I could not wait to see how things turned out! The story itself is not very original and I could see how things would play out before I even reached the halfway mark, but what surprised me the most is that I didn't really care. I was having far too much fun with the characters and the crappy things they did to each other to pay any attention to the sappy cliches. I did have some problems with the main character, mainly because the girl LOVED to get on my nerves, but other than that, I really enjoyed this book.

Maddie Burch was a strange girl. I couldn't tolerate her, and yet, she grew on me like a tumor (lovely picture, I know). She was smart enough not to get involved in stupid situations, but that's exactly what she did. I thought I would end up hating her, but in all honesty, it was fun watching her get into trouble. Her character doesn't really develop all that much, but then again, I didn't expect it to. She's a people-pleaser, and she stays one throughout the novel. At least she knew better than the other characters, and I almost respected her for realizing how dumb G.A.P. really was.
Sebastian, on the other hand, made me want to take up Latin dance classes (But I would suck so badly they'd probably kick me out). I liked him because he confused me. He was sweet, charming, and clearly smokin' hot, but I kept getting the impression that he really was a player and Maddie was only a temporary target. I didn't exactly love him as much as I wanted to because I was suspicious half the time and I didn't understand why he was interested in Maddie at all. It's like a mini insta-love. There was an invisible spark and I'm clueless to why that is.

Overall, other than the club addition, the story wasn't very unique, but it was entertaining and quick to read, so I had no problem with the lack of originality. The smart girl/hot guy romance was a little overdone and the villain was very one-dimensional, but again, it was adorable how things played out, even if the ending was too quick and all the problems where easily resolved.

Do I recommend it? As a light summer read, sure!

I have always been in search of good New Adult novels ever since my first (and amazing) encounter with Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens. And after reading The GAP Club, I can say that my search, so far, has been successful.

Can we just talk about how smart and unique this story’s concept was? I mean, it’s totally out of the normal and the tiniest bit absurd, but it totally worked! That alone had me in awe. It’s true, though: Damsels-in-distress wouldn’t survive today. Only bitches-in-heels would.

Enter Maddie, our protagonist, and the only flaw in my supposedly flawless theory of “Women’s Survival in the 21st century”. She wasn’t bitchy at all—totally kind-hearted, even—but there was so much resolve and girl power inside her. It was so refreshing to read from a very benevolent character’s point of view. She wasn’t saint-like nor sinless to the point of irritating, but there’s just really genuine compassion in her heart. I really enjoyed reading the story thru Maddie’s head.

I also admired how she faced problems head-on. One of my bookish pet peeves is when characters tend to stall and prolong their predicaments and just let things be until it’s too late. But Maddie, she wasn’t that. She tries to think of ways to fix things and, most importantly, she acts. She doesn’t let problems get bigger, and that’s what I definitely liked about her.

The Sebastian-Maddie duo was totally endearing and just too cuuute!!! They were so shy and so funny and just romantic! The way things turned out for them and how the romance still worked out was … perfect. Sebastian seemed like the ideal guy (not to mention flirty) and Maddie totally deserved him and vice-versa. And, it wasn’t just lust lust lust or sex sex sex. The passion, love and intimacy of both characters towards each other were really palpable.

Another thing I liked was how Ingrid incorporated Maddie’s relationship with Hunter, a 10-year-old cancer kid. It greatly contributed to her character and to the story as well.

I’m so glad to have discovered this book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and I NEED the sequel in my hands right now! I couldn’t wait!!!

A sweet romance..., June 20, 2013

This review is from: The Guys Are Props Club (Kindle Edition)

I didn't think I'll enjoy reading a YA romance book as much as I enjoyed this one. I guess young adults are less complicated, there's enough angst but not the kind that would make you throw your hands up and say enough already.

As a ballroom dancer myself, I connected with this story and enjoyed the characters thoroughly. When Maddie and Sebastian were dancing Salsa and Meringue I find I was swaying to the beat of the imagined music in the background, it was that contagious.

Maddie moved and enrolled at school as far away from home when her boyfriend broke her heart and to stay away from her mother who betrayed her. She meets Jessica whose heart has also been broken, shared a room in the school dorm and together they formed a club called "The Guys Are Props Club". The main goal was to play a guy, let them think that are really into them, make them fall for them and then dump them. The members grew, from being just the two of them to almost thirty members; they meet every two weeks; they all confirm who and how many men they each are playing;they put some large amount of money in a pot and the winner takes all. Sounds far-fetched? Don't let that detract from the beauty of this story and deter you from reading it. This is really a very good read and well written.

The courtship of Sebastian and Maddie was so sweet and simply exciting I can't help thinking of my college days ( believe me it was colorful! lol ) The strong attraction and the chemistry between Maddie and Sebastian is mutual but how they go about it was exhilarating...( sigh! wish I were still in the good college years ) Maddie is a very sweet, warm and forgiving young girl with a great sense of right and wrong. And Sebastian? Aah, the yummy gorgeous Sebastian has a predisposition you would want to take home and introduce to momma, oh and a great dancer and good kisser too! ^: ~

I really enjoyed this book so much, so refreshing and endearing and not a fanfare of angst and drama, just enough to get you hooked.

I was totally iffy about reading this book after I read the blurb, but once I started I was in!! Down for the count... blah blah blah leave me alone so I can read! You all know exactly what I mean!

Now... about this book, I really did enjoy it! The characters are well developed and well written. I was totally inside this story - about halfway through and I was still not sure about Sebastian's actual feelings or how to read him. Seriously, it was like I was in Maddie's place, right beside her, trying to figure it out with her. I seriously wasn't sure if he was legit or just a player like we thought. Ummmm Jessica... holy shit Jessica! I hate Jessica! Totally, seriously hate her, and I have not hated a book character possibly ever... so I was enthralled with this author's ability to write a character that got this kind of reaction out of me as a reader! It was great!! The writing is good, and the flow of the story is awesome. I really enjoyed the editing - I guess you'd call it - I mean I liked how the stupid shit is left out... Does that make sense? Some books give you a freaking play by play and it just drags on and on and on without going anywhere... This one doesn't do that and it doesn't feel like I'm missing anything.

Now... the sexy boy in this story Sebastian. He is soooooooo hot; and it comes through the pages on FIRE (sang like Fall Out Boy's song).
**side note - am I the only one who can no longer say or think the word fire without singing it like FOB does?! Kind of like Jason Derulo <-- you all know exactly what I'm talking about)

I loved Hunter - so sweet and innocent. He provided an awesome side in the story for me.

to sum up my thoughts, here is an update from 2/3s into the story:
62% update: ahhhhhhh the suspense is killing me... I know shit is going to hit the fan - it always freaking does with someone like Jessica around - I'm going to lose a finger if I keep biting my nails!

I was like that the entire time reading - like I said it sucked me in and didn't let me go until the end.

Be sure to check this one out!!

I think for this review I am going to start by giving my rating and then explain the WHY of it. I am giving this book three and a half glasses of wine... But wait!!! Don't get all freaked out over three and a half glasses.

I REALLY enjoyed reading The Guys Are Props Club. It was an easy, entertaining read. I think the author did a great job coming up with an original story line. The characters were believable and realistic. But...it was just kind of lacking something. I'm not even sure what exactly, but it just felt very "fluffy". I feel like the characters were not developed enough. And before I knew it, the story was over!

Maddie is a 19 year old college student (and a virgin, shocking lol) trying to make it on her own. No father in the picture, and a worthless mother means she is really struggling to achieve her goal of pediatrician. Her roommate is Jessica. Jessica is your typical "born with a silver spoon in her mouth, only attending college to have fun " girl. They bonded a year before over broken hearts and formed the G.A.P. club. Starting out it was just fun, but when it gets serious about hurting guys, Maddie starts to realize that maybe this club isn't just fun and games.

Enter Sebastian, a H-O-T latin lover that Jessica immediately sets her sights on. Unfortunately she doesn't realize that he's got his eyes on Maddie. Sebastian is a good guy, even though his amazing good looks would make you think otherwise. His father taught him the importance of having morals and character and following through on promises. It's somewhat easy to guess what happens next.

I like the fact that Maddie found the strength to come clean and be honest with Sebastian. Even though it seemed hopeless.

It was fabulous that it was a stand alone book. And the ending was pretty good too. Like I said, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a good read and I look forward to reading more stuff by Ingrid Seymour. Three and a half glasses of Sutter Home.....my favorite White Zin.

***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.***

I LOVED this book!!! I started this morning when I couldn't sleep, and I didn't stop until I finished. Maddie has made herself a promise that she will not give her heart to any guy after her boyfriend in high school took it and shattered it into tiny pieces. She thinks this will be an easy task especially since her college roommate feels the same way. She and Jessica even start a club to commiserate with other girls who find themselves in the same situation. However, Maddie is not so sure she can keep that promise to herself or "the sisters" in her club when she meets Sebastian. He seems to break down every barrier she has built up. As she begins allowing herself to have feelings for him, she comes into conflict with her best friend, Jessica, and the Guys Are Props Club. Will she have the courage to let go of her past and give Sebastian a chance?

I thought all the characters were portrayed very realistically. There were qualities I liked and didn't like about each one. I loved Maddie but got impatient with her and wanted her to give Sebastian a chance. Sebastian was patient with Maddie, but I was irritated when he wouldn't give Maddie a chance to explain herself. However, he redeemed himself in the end. Jessica...I didn't like much at all, but I could somewhat understand why she became the person she was. However, Hunter was perfect! What a great little guy...so full of spirit and life despite his condition. I also liked that the relationships between Maddie and Sebastian moved at a slower, more natural pace. He was so incredibly patient with Maddie. He was willing to wait and be her friend before taking it to the next level! Although, the chemistry between the two was SIZZLING!

I love reading a series, and I am hoping this is a series. Even though I didn't like Jessica, it would be extremely interesting to see her story told. I would like to see her past story told and see her get her HEA too!

Maddie Burch made a promise to herself in high school after having her heart broken. Two years later, in college, her promise is still intact. She's learned that guys are not to be trusted. She has G.A.P.C., Her best friend, school, and work to focus on. But when Sebastian shows up, Maddie is intrigued by him. And the more time she spends with him, the easier her promise gets to be broken.

I am really disappointed in this book. It's not what I expected at all. I really hated Maddie. I really did. She was immature and she let people walk all over her. It didn't help that she went along with whatever Jessica wanted. If she didn't want to do something, she just tried to sneak away without being seen.

Jessica was no better. She was just as bad, if not worse than Maddie. Her problem was she was stuck back in high school acting like a spoiled bitch, and I hated her. She refused to take no for an answer. Whatever Jessica wanted, Jessica would get.

Sebastian. This guy really didn't appeal to me. I'm sorry, but a guy doing the damn Tango just isn't swoon worthy to me. He came off as cocky, and overly confident. Like he knew all he had to do was flash those pearly whites and he got whatever girl he wanted. I hate guys like that. So no, this guy isn't anywhere near swoon worthy for me.

Honestly, the only character I liked in this book was Hunter, the 9 year old cancer patient at the hospital. He was adorable and sweet and so enthusiastic, especially for a kid in his position. I absolutely adored him.

Although Maddie does mature in the end and take responsibility for what she did, along with Jessica, I doubt I'll even recommend this to anyone. However, if you happen to think a man doing the Tango is swoon worthy, feel free. And don't let this review stop you from reading it, because you may have a different opinion on it, just keep an open mind. If you read this I hope you enjoy it.

If you think The Guys Are Props Club sounds like a unique NA book, that's because it is. The premise is something I haven't encountered before, and although I disliked the idea of the club in the book, it sure made for a really fun read.

Despite her initial pushover tendencies, Maddie was an okay character. Smart, independent, and driven, I started liking her when I learned that she was already enlightened as to how wrong their little club was, how their Plays made them just like the men who'd broken their hearts. But beneath Maddie's composed exterior was a girl who'd been traumatized by love, and I really pitied her when I realized just how scared she was to love again.

Fortunately, Sebastian was the perfect guy for a broken heart, like ice cream on a bad day. At first, I couldn't see his charm, but soon enough... wow. This guy had sexy down to an art, and he wasn't even trying. He's honest and straight-forward without ever being disrespectful, and Maddie's best friend Jessica was lucky that she's a character in this book - I'm sure most NA guys would've told her to shut the eff up. Or ogled.

Despite their mad attraction for one another, Maddie was reluctant to get into a relationship with Sebastian, so he got his moves on which turned me into a puddle of goo. Then they soon decided to take it slow instead of jumping each other's bones, and this actually made them more realistic and well-developed.

Short and fast-paced yet still sweet and sexy, there was no shortage of character growth here in The Guys Are Props Club. People looking for a non-formulaic NA read - or guy, because Sebastian really is something special - will not be disappointed, and might even ask for more.

MY FAVORITE PART is the last scene ♥
